This is the reference page for the whole budget block: what exists, what it costs, what it does, and where the honest gaps are. Read it once before your first order and you will not make the two mistakes almost everyone makes, which are buying into the wrong system and buying the wrong size.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I choose an affordable bedroom fragrance from SOSA? Decide three things in order. First the system: alcohol-free reed diffusers use reed oil and need no flame, power or water, while ultrasonic diffusers like the ₹899 Boond mist water plus a water-based fragrance and need a plug. Second the size: a 50ml reed lasts 6 to 8 weeks and a 130ml lasts 14 to 18 weeks, depending on room size, airflow and how often the reeds are flipped. Third the scent, which is where the five reeds between ₹749 and ₹849 differ.
What does SOSA sell for a bedroom under Rs 1,000? The Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299 for 15ml, which is water-based fragrance for an ultrasonic diffuser you must already own; the bedroom scented candle at ₹699; the five 50ml reed diffusers from ₹749 to ₹849 - Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew ₹849; and the SOSA Boond ultrasonic diffuser at ₹899, which comes with hotel-inspired water-based fragrance. There is no reed diffuser under ₹500.
What size reed diffuser should I buy for a bedroom? A 50ml for a small or ordinary bedroom, which is stated to last 6 to 8 weeks. A 130ml for a large or airy room, for a room with a fan running most of the day, or if you simply dislike re-ordering - it is stated to last 14 to 18 weeks and is better value per ml. All figures depend on room size, airflow and how often the reeds are flipped, so treat any cost-per-day number as an estimate.
The short answer
Short answer: buy in three decisions: the system (reed oil in reeds, water-based Hotel Collection in an ultrasonic diffuser - they never mix), the size (50ml lasts 6 to 8 weeks, 130ml lasts 14 to 18 weeks and is better value per ml), then the scent. The affordable range runs from ₹299 for fragrance, ₹699 for the candle, ₹749 to ₹849 for 50ml reeds and ₹899 for the Boond. No reed exists under ₹500.
The pick: the Morning Freshness reed (₹749) as the standard first purchase, the SOSA Boond (₹899) if you want the ultrasonic system, and the Hotel Collection 15ml (₹299) as the fragrance for that machine or for one you already own.
Next step: send us your room size, whether you have a usable plug point and what you can spend, and we will write the order out for you - ask us what fits your budget.
Everything in the affordable bedroom range, in price order, with what each rung actually gives you. Nothing between ₹500 and ₹699 exists, and we would rather show the gap than fill it.
The three products in this guide - tap any of them
How should I buy affordable bedroom fragrance from SOSA without wasting money?
Three decisions, in this order. Decision one: which system. There are two, and they never mix. An alcohol-free reed diffuser is a bottle of reed oil plus rattan sticks - Morning Freshness at ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at ₹849, all for 50ml. No flame, no power, no water, nothing to switch off, which is why it suits a PG, a hostel, a shared flat or anyone out all day. An ultrasonic diffuser such as the SOSA Boond at ₹899 mists water together with a water-based fragrance, the Hotel Collection from ₹299 for 15ml. It needs a plug point, it adds humidity so it is wrong in a damp or monsoon-affected room, and the tank must be emptied and dried regularly. Putting reed oil in an ultrasonic machine or water-based fragrance in a reed bottle does not work, and it is the commonest mistake we see. Decision two: which size. A 50ml is stated to last 6 to 8 weeks and a 130ml 14 to 18 weeks, both depending on room size, airflow and how often you flip the reeds. As estimates, a ₹749 50ml is roughly ₹13 to ₹18 a day and a ₹1,249 130ml is roughly ₹10 to ₹13 - the larger bottle is better value per ml, so buy the 50ml while you are still choosing a scent and the 130ml once you know. Decision three: which scent, and only here does taste come into it: lemon-mint for a bright room, lavender and chamomile for a wind-down one, rose and jasmine for a soft floral, pine and cedar for cool and dry, coffee and vanilla for warm and cosy. Two honest gaps to note before you order: there is no SOSA reed diffuser under ₹500, and SOSA does not make a room spray. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
System first, size second, scent third. Reeds ₹749-₹849 for 50ml, the Boond ₹899 with fragrance, Hotel Collection from ₹299. No reed under ₹500.
The standard first purchase is a 50ml reed, and the cheapest is Morning Freshness at ₹749 - alcohol-free, with no flame, no power and no water, stated to last 6 to 8 weeks depending on room size, airflow and how often you flip the reeds. Buy the 50ml while you are still choosing a scent, and the 130ml once you know.
Three products that between them explain the whole affordable range: one reed, one machine, and the fragrance that machine runs on. Read the cards as a map of the two systems rather than as a shortlist.
₹749 for 50ml and ₹1,249 for 130ml, Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus in alcohol-free reed oil. No flame, no power, no water. 50ml lasts 6 to 8 weeks and 130ml lasts 14 to 18 weeks, depending on room size, airflow and how often the reeds are flipped. Stand it on a coaster and keep it away from children and pets.
₹899 for a 300ml mini ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser with a soft night light, supplied with hotel-inspired water-based fragrance so no second purchase is needed to start. Needs a plug point, adds humidity so it is wrong in a damp room, and the tank should be emptied and dried regularly rather than left with water standing.
Water-based hotel-inspired fragrance from ₹299 for 15ml, also in 100ml and 300ml. A few drops per water fill, so a small bottle covers many runs. For ultrasonic diffusers only - it is not reed diffuser oil, and reed oil will not work in an ultrasonic machine.
₹749 for 50ml and ₹1,249 for 130ml. Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus in alcohol-free reed oil, with no flame, no power and no water. 50ml lasts 6 to 8 weeks and 130ml lasts 14 to 18 weeks, depending on room size, airflow and how often the reeds are flipped. Made in India.
Work through these three in order and the purchase is decided. Doing them out of order is how people end up with a bottle they cannot use.
1
First, the system
Reeds or ultrasonic - and they share nothing
A reed diffuser is a bottle of alcohol-free reed oil with rattan sticks in it. The oil travels up the sticks and evaporates. There is no flame, no plug, no water and nothing to switch on or off, which is why it works in a PG, a hostel or a rented room, and why it keeps going while you sleep or while you are out. An ultrasonic diffuser is a small machine that vibrates water into a cool mist, carrying a water-based fragrance with it. It needs a plug point, it lets you control the level, it usually has a light, and it adds humidity to the room - which makes it lovely in a dry winter and a poor idea in a damp or monsoon-affected bedroom. The tank should be emptied and dried regularly rather than left standing. The critical part: reed oil is not for ultrasonic machines and the water-based Hotel Collection is not for reeds. They look similar on a shelf and they are not interchangeable.
Tip: check what system you are buying into before you check the price. This is the mistake that wastes the most money.
The Hotel Collection from ₹299 is water-based fragrance for ultrasonic diffusers only, never for reeds.
50ml or 130ml, decided by the room rather than the wallet
A small, closed, ordinary bedroom - a rented room, a PG, a 10 by 12 - is a 50ml room, and the stated life is 6 to 8 weeks. A large master bedroom, a room with a ceiling fan running most of the day, or one with a balcony door that stays open will get through a bottle faster, and that is where the 130ml belongs, at a stated 14 to 18 weeks. As estimates from those ranges, a ₹749 50ml is roughly ₹13 to ₹18 a day and a ₹1,249 130ml is roughly ₹10 to ₹13 a day, which makes the larger bottle better value per ml - it is simply a bigger amount on the day. Our advice: buy a 50ml for your first bottle while you are still deciding whether the scent is right for your room, and switch to 130ml on the re-order once you know. If a bottle is emptying faster than you expected, flip the reeds less often before you assume you need a bigger one.
Morning Freshness is ₹749 for 50ml and ₹1,249 for 130ml - the same scent, better value per ml in the larger size.
Only now does taste matter, and every 50ml is within Rs 100 of the others
All five 50ml reeds sit between ₹749 and ₹849, so your choice is not being made for you by price. Morning Freshness is Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus, bright and cold, for a bedroom that doubles as a morning room. Evening Calm is Himalayan lavender with chamomile, soft and low-contrast, for a wind-down room - a calm atmosphere rather than a sleep aid, and no health claims attached. Garden Bloom is British rose with night-blooming jasmine, the softest floral. Mountain Breeze is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, cool and dry, and the safest choice in a hot humid city. Fresh Brew is Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla, warm and gourmand, at its best in a cool room. If you are genuinely unsure, start bright or cool rather than sweet; those are the hardest to tire of in a small closed room.
Tip: buy for the room you have and the weather you live in, not for the bottle that smelled best in a shop.
If you would rather have a machine with an adjustable level, the SOSA Boond is ₹899 with fragrance included.
Almost every wasted rupee in home fragrance comes from one of two mistakes: buying into the wrong system, or buying the wrong size for the room.
Neither of those is about taste, which is why they are worth settling before you think about scent at all.
The ultrasonic system: SOSA Boond, a 300ml mini ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser with a night light, ₹899, supplied with hotel-inspired water-based fragrance. Needs a plug, adds humidity, so not for a damp room.

Two gaps worth stating plainly rather than leaving you to discover them. SOSA has no reed diffuser under ₹500 - the cheapest is ₹749, and the reason is that a reed diffuser is essentially its oil, so cutting the price means cutting the volume or the concentration. And SOSA does not make a room spray; if you want an instant reset before guests arrive, a spray is a top-note event that mostly dissipates within about half an hour and is no substitute for something continuous. If you want the deep versions of the arguments summarised here, the reed diffuser under Rs 500 page explains the price floor, the value-for-money guide does the cost-per-day arithmetic, and which SOSA bedroom fragrance is best on a budget makes the recommendation directly. The overview is our guide to the best home fragrance for a bedroom in India.
The reed system: Morning Freshness reed - ₹749 for 50ml lasting 6 to 8 weeks and ₹1,249 for 130ml lasting 14 to 18 weeks, depending on room size, airflow and reed-flip frequency.
The affordable bedroom range in one place: reeds from Rs 749 for 50ml and Rs 1,249 for 130ml, the SOSA Boond at Rs 899 with hotel-inspired fragrance included, and Hotel Collection fragrance from Rs 299 for machines. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
A quick word before you order. Settle the system first, because reed oil and the water-based Hotel Collection are never interchangeable; then the size, remembering the 130ml is better value per ml; then the scent. All longevity figures are the stated 6 to 8 weeks for 50ml and 14 to 18 weeks for 130ml, depending on room size, airflow and reed-flip frequency, and every cost-per-day number in this series is an estimate from those ranges. Reeds: coaster underneath, out of reach of children and pets, oil not for skin or ingestion. Ultrasonic: empty and dry the tank, and avoid it in a damp room. Candles: never unattended, never while you sleep, away from bedding and curtains. And fragrance works alongside airing and cleaning, never instead of them. Send us your room details and we will write the order out for you.

A note from Sonal
If you read only one page in this budget series, I would rather it was this one, because almost every rupee I see wasted on home fragrance goes the same two ways: the wrong system, or the wrong size. Neither has anything to do with taste, and both are avoidable in two minutes.
The system first. A reed diffuser is oil and sticks - no flame, no plug, no water, nothing to switch off - and it is what I recommend to most people in a bedroom, from ₹749. An ultrasonic machine like the Boond at ₹899 mists water with a water-based fragrance from ₹299, needs a plug and adds humidity to the room. The two never mix. Then the size: 50ml for your first bottle while you are still deciding, 130ml once you know your scent, because it lasts 14 to 18 weeks against 6 to 8 and is better value per ml.
And the two gaps I will keep repeating: we do not make a reed diffuser under ₹500, and we do not make a room spray. I would rather you knew both before you searched than after you ordered. None of this is an air purifier, a sleep aid or a fix for a room that needs airing - wash the linen and open the window first, always. Everything we make is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
What does SOSA sell for a bedroom under Rs 1,000?
Hotel Collection fragrance from Rs 299 for 15ml, which is water-based fragrance for an ultrasonic diffuser you must already own; the bedroom scented candle at Rs 699; five 50ml reed diffusers from Rs 749 to Rs 849, being Morning Freshness Rs 749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm Rs 799, and Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew Rs 849; and the SOSA Boond ultrasonic diffuser at Rs 899 with hotel-inspired water-based fragrance included. There is no reed diffuser under Rs 500.
What is the difference between reed oil and the Hotel Collection fragrance?
They belong to two different systems that are never interchangeable. Alcohol-free reed oil is designed to travel up rattan reeds and evaporate into the room, with no flame, power or water involved. The Hotel Collection is a water-based fragrance added a few drops at a time to the water tank of an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser such as the Boond. Putting either in the other simply does not work.
Should I buy a 50ml or a 130ml reed diffuser?
Buy a 50ml for your first bottle while you are still deciding whether the scent suits your room. It is stated to last 6 to 8 weeks depending on room size, airflow and how often the reeds are flipped. Move to a 130ml on the re-order once you know your scent, or straight away if your bedroom is large or airy - it is stated to last 14 to 18 weeks and is better value per ml, though it costs more on the day.
Does SOSA make a room spray for a bedroom?
No, SOSA does not make a room spray in the home range. Generically, a room spray is a top-note event that mostly dissipates within about half an hour, which makes it useful as an instant reset just before guests arrive but not as a way to keep a room scented. For continuous scent, use a reed diffuser or an ultrasonic diffuser.
Is a reed diffuser or an ultrasonic diffuser better for a rented room or PG?
A reed diffuser, almost always. There is no flame, no plug and no water, so nothing has to be switched off, nothing runs while you are out and there is nothing a landlord or warden could object to. An ultrasonic diffuser needs a plug point you are allowed to use and adds humidity to the room, which is a problem in a damp or monsoon-affected building. Stand a reed bottle on a coaster because the oil can mark polished wood.
The fragrance for a machine: Hotel Collection water-based fragrance in 15ml, 100ml and 300ml, from ₹299. For ultrasonic diffusers only. Not reed diffuser oil.
Reeds are ₹749 to ₹849 for 50ml, lasting 6 to 8 weeks, and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 for 130ml, lasting 14 to 18 weeks and better value per ml, all depending on room size, airflow and how often you flip the reeds. The SOSA Boond is ₹899 with hotel-inspired water-based fragrance included, and Hotel Collection fragrance starts at ₹299 for 15ml. There is no reed diffuser under ₹500 and SOSA does not make a room spray. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
