A car is the smallest space any of us scents, and the one we sit closest to. Two or three cubic metres of air, a metre from your face, with the windows up and the heater on for four months of the year. I say this to customers constantly and it still surprises people: almost every car fragrance problem I am sent is a dose problem, not a scent problem. The bottle is not weak and the oil is not wrong. The cabin simply gives fragrance nowhere to go, and winter takes away the little ventilation that was rescuing you in October.
That is why we sell the hanging bottle and the spray at the same price. They are the same oil. One gives you a mild level that is always there and asks nothing of you; the other gives you a strong level the moment you decide you want one. Neither is the better product, and pricing them differently would only push people toward whichever we wanted to sell. Choose by how you drive: a long daily commute is a hanging car, a car that matters most when somebody else gets into it is a spray car, and plenty of people quite sensibly run both.

Is buying both formats just a way of selling me two products?
It would be, if they were priced as a ladder - and they are not. The hanging 12ml and the 10ml spray are the same oil, the same alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant composition, and the same price, from Rs 449 either way. There is no premium format and no upgrade path, which is deliberate: SOSA's own line is to choose by how you drive rather than by what you pay. In a small car most people genuinely only need one, and we will say so. The reason a large SUV is different is structural rather than commercial: a single hanging bottle at the mirror is one point source at the front of a much bigger volume, so it serves the front rows well and the back rows barely, and a spray is the only way to put fragrance where the bottle cannot reach.
Can I use the spray while people are already in the car?
Better not to, and there are two reasons. The first is timing: a spray peaks immediately and settles afterwards, so anyone in the car meets the loudest moment of it, which is exactly the impression you did not want to make. Spray 15 to 30 minutes before people get in, aimed low toward the rear footwells, with the windows cracked for about a minute and then closed, and what they meet is a settled level. The second is safety, and it is absolute: never spray while driving, and never toward the windscreen. If the car already has passengers and it needs freshening, open the doors for a minute at the next stop instead - ventilation does more for a stale cabin than fragrance does, and it does it faster.
How many sprays does a large SUV actually need?
One or two, aimed low toward the rear footwells rather than into the front of the cabin, and one is more often right than people expect - especially if a hanging bottle is already running. The reliable way to find your number is not to reason about cabin volume but to test: use one, wait fifteen minutes, get out of the car for three or four minutes, then come back in with a fresh nose and judge. You go nose-blind within minutes of sitting in a scent, so judging from the driver's seat after spraying always tells you it is not enough. In winter, subtract one from whatever you settled on in warmer months, because a closed heated cabin has almost no air exchange and the fragrance accumulates instead of clearing.
Is it cheaper to buy a 50ml spray if I am running both formats?
It is, once you know the scent you want to stay with. The 10ml spray holds 100 sprays and the 50ml at Rs 1,499 holds 500, which works out at roughly Rs 3 a spray against about Rs 5 for the 10ml - about 63 per cent less per spray, and a year or more of use at one spray a day. The catch is that it only makes sense after you have settled, because 500 sprays of a register you are not sure about is a long commitment. If you are still deciding, the Discovery Set of three mini sprays from Rs 699 is the honest way to choose in your own cabin. And for the hanging half of the setup, the 15ml refill from Rs 399 is the equivalent economy: it fills the same glass for another four to six weeks and saves Rs 50 to Rs 60 against a new bottle.
Could I use the SOSA Safar as the second source instead of a spray?
You could, and it is a reasonable alternative if you would rather have a device than a bottle in the door pocket. The Safar at Rs 3,999 is cordless and waterless, cold-diffusing pure undiluted oil with no water and no heating element, on three speeds with a one, two or three hour auto-off timer and a 2000 mAh battery giving up to 10 hours continuous or about 30 intermittent per charge. What it adds over a spray is timing and placement - you can put it in a cup holder or door pocket further back in the cabin and let it run for a set period rather than pressing an atomizer.
