At 500 sq ft the question is a genuine one, and it is between two cheap answers, not between a cheap answer and a machine. Reeds if the patient-facing part of the clinic is one seating zone; a Sukoon if it is one open room that needs the same level at both ends. A Vaayu is not on the list, and this page will not put it there.
Quick answers — read this first
Reed diffuser or scent machine for a 500 sq ft pain clinic? Reeds if the desk and the chairs form one seating zone - which is most 500 sq ft clinics, once the cabin and procedure room are taken off the figure. A SOSA Sukoon (Rs 1,899) if reception is one open room of roughly 300 sq ft or more with chairs at both ends, because a bottle reaches one end and a Sukoon holds one level across the room. Either way the spend is under Rs 1,899.

Is a SOSA Vaayu right for 500 sq ft? No. The Vaayu is rated to roughly 2,000-3,000 sq ft of connected air and is bought, between 750 and 1,500 sq ft, for control and distribution rather than coverage. At 500 sq ft there is nothing to distribute across and nothing to control that a reed count or a Sukoon dial does not already control. Its minimum output fills a 500 sq ft clinic to a level the slowest patient can name from a chair.

What does the Sukoon add over a bottle at this size? An even level across one open room, a dial instead of a reed count, and sixteen to eighteen hours on low from one 500ml fill. What it also adds is water: a tank to rinse between fills and a fine mist that adds humidity, which is why the decision between the two is really about whether your reception is one open room or one seating zone. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating. It does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress, does not affect outcomes, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan.
The short answer
Short answer: reeds if the patient-facing air is one seating zone; a Sukoon if it is one open room of 300 sq ft or more with chairs at both ends. Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness in either case. No Vaayu at 500 sq ft - it has nothing to distribute across and its minimum is too much.
The pick: a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) for most 500 sq ft clinics; a SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) only if reception is one open room. This page ends with you buying one of the two cheapest things SOSA sells, and we refuse the Vaayu for this size outright.
Next step: take the cabin, procedure room and toilets off your 500 sq ft and measure what is left. Under 300 sq ft of open patient-facing air, a bottle; over it, a Sukoon. If you want that arithmetic checked, ask for a clinic scenting plan.

Five hundred square feet is where people first ask about a machine. It is the size where the honest answer is still a bottle, or a small one that takes water.
The two purchases for a 500 sq ft clinic - tap to see each
Straight answer
Reed diffuser or scent machine for a 500 sq ft pain clinic - and which machine?
A reed diffuser for most of them, a Sukoon for some, and a Vaayu for none. The decision is not about the 500 sq ft on the lease; it is about the shape of the air a patient waits in. Take the consultation cabin off the figure, because it has a door and the house position is that nothing goes inside it. Take the procedure or injection room off, because it is unscented by rule. Take the toilets and the store off. What remains in a typical 500 sq ft pain clinic is 200-320 sq ft of reception and waiting, and the only question is whether that remainder is one seating zone - a desk with the chairs in front of it or beside it - or one open room with chairs at both ends, a window seat and a desk-side seat, say, ten metres apart. If it is one seating zone, a bottle does it: a Mountain Breeze 50ml at ₹849 for wood, beige or warm light, a Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749 for white, glass or cool light, three or four reeds in, on the staff end of the desk, furthest from the clinical door. A reed reaches a seating zone and then stops, and a clinic where the chairs are all in one place wants exactly that. If it is one open room with two ends, a bottle reaches one end and the other end smells of nothing, and the wrong fix is a second bottle at full strength or six reeds at the desk; reeds are a volume control, never a range control, and why reeds reach reception and nothing else explains the physics. The right fix is a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899: a 500ml ultrasonic diffuser built for one open room of roughly 270-320 sq ft, sixteen to eighteen hours on low from one fill, with a dial where the bottle has a reed count. Placed high on a shelf on the wall the chairs face, away from the door and the AC grille, it holds one level from the window seat to the desk. What it costs you is water. It is a water-based machine, so the tank is rinsed between fills, the mist adds a little humidity to the room, and in a monsoon city that is a real consideration - the musty pain clinic in monsoon is the page for that. Now the Vaayu, plainly, because it is the reason most people arrive at this page. A SOSA Vaayu is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft of connected air, with a timer, adjustable intensity and a key-lock. Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft it is bought for four reasons that have nothing to do with coverage - control, no water, distribution and uptime - and the 1,000 sq ft decision sets those out. At 500 sq ft not one of them applies. There is no second seating zone thirty metres away for it to distribute to. The control a reed count or a Sukoon dial gives is already enough for one room. Its no-water advantage is real but ₹11,999 is a great deal to pay to avoid rinsing a tank. And its lowest intensity step, set for a floor four times the size, fills a 500 sq ft clinic to a level that a patient who walked in slowly can name from a chair at four in the afternoon. We refuse the Vaayu at this size, and if you already own one, keep it for the floor you may one day have. The map does not change with the purchase: the procedure room stays completely unscented, kept so by a closed door and a source placed on the far side of the desk from it; the cabin is the doctor's call, nothing inside, a trace inherited. And the standing sentence: fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating. It does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress, it does not affect outcomes, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan, including this one. Smaller than this, the 300-400 sq ft clinic is one bottle and no argument; larger, the 750 sq ft clinic is the first place a Vaayu can even be discussed; and the whole ladder is the family pillar, when does a pain management centre need a Vaayu.
At 500 sq ft: a reed (Mountain Breeze Rs 849 or Morning Freshness Rs 749) if desk and chairs are one seating zone, which is most clinics; a SOSA Sukoon (Rs 1,899) if reception is one open room with chairs at both ends. No Vaayu - nothing to distribute across and its minimum is too much. Procedure room unscented; cabin the doctor's call.
For a 500 sq ft clinic whose reception is one open room with chairs at both ends, one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 - 500ml, ultrasonic, sixteen to eighteen hours on low, roughly 270-320 sq ft - holds one level from the desk to the window seat. If the chairs are all in one place, a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 does it instead.

Reed or Sukoon - the two honest purchases

Both answers side by side. Whichever you choose, it is one of the two cheapest things SOSA sells for a clinic, and the Vaayu is described further down only so you know why it is not here.

SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Most 500 sq ft clinics - desk and chairs in one seating zone
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - the dry, professional default for a pain practice. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, coconut-derived base. Six reeds supplied; three or four in. 50ml Rs 849 for six to eight weeks, 130ml Rs 1,349 for fourteen to eighteen. Staff end of the desk, above seated head height if there is a shelf, furthest from the procedure door. Reaches one seating zone, which is what you have.
From ₹849
SOSA Sukoon
Reception is one open room of 300 sq ft or more with chairs at both ends
SOSA Sukoon
500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser for one open room of roughly 270-320 sq ft. Sixteen to eighteen hours on low from one fill; a dial instead of a reed count. High on a shelf on the wall the chairs face, away from the door and the AC grille. Water-based - rinse the tank between fills and expect a little added humidity, which matters in a monsoon city. Rs 1,899.
₹1,899
SOSA Sukoon
The machine that is actually sized for a 500 sq ft reception
SOSA Sukoon Ultrasonic Diffuser
A 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for one open room of roughly 270-320 sq ft, Rs 1,899. Sixteen to eighteen hours on low, so one fill sees out a clinic day and the next morning. A dial for intensity where a reed has a count. Sits high on a shelf on the wall the chairs face, and holds one level across a reception whose chairs are at both ends. Rinse the tank between fills; a little humidity is the price of the mist. Made in India. For a 500 sq ft pain clinic this, or a reed, is the whole purchase.

Five things that decide reed versus Sukoon at 500 sq ft

The five questions that settle the choice, in the order to ask them. The Vaayu is dealt with last, because it is the question people ask first and the one that matters least at this size.

1
The shape of the air
One seating zone takes a bottle; one open room with two ends takes a Sukoon
Stand at the desk and look at where the chairs are. If they are in front of you, beside you, or in a single group within a few metres, the patient-facing air is one seating zone and a reed bottle is the right tool, because a bottle reaches one seating zone and then stops, which is the whole point in a pain clinic. If the chairs are split - four by the window, four by the desk, ten metres of open floor between them - the air is one open room with two ends, and a bottle reaches one end only. Sit in the far group with a bottle at the desk and you will find nothing; sit in the near group with six reeds in and you will name it. That gap is what a Sukoon exists to close, at one level, from one source. Scenting a large waiting area evenly is the same problem at a larger size.
Test: put a bottle at the desk for a week. If the far chairs never find it and the near chairs can name it, you have one open room, not one zone.
2
The register
Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness in either device - nothing sweet, warm or floral
The choice of device does not change the choice of scent. A pain clinic reads as medicine that happens to be well kept, and the two SOSA scents that hold that register are Mountain Breeze - pine, sage, cedar, for timber, beige and warm light - and Morning Freshness - lemon, mint, eucalyptus, for white, glass and cool light. Evening Calm, Garden Bloom and Fresh Brew are named here only to rule them out; lavender, rose and coffee-vanilla each push a 500 sq ft specialist practice toward a massage centre in a single afternoon, and in a room this size there is no far corner for the mistake to hide in. What a premium pain management clinic should smell like sets the register out in full.
Rule: if you cannot decide between the two, run a week of each at the desk. The building usually tells you by Wednesday.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Mountain Breeze - pine, sage and cedar; the driest register SOSA makes, in a bottle or in the Sukoon.

3
Water
The Sukoon adds humidity and a tank to rinse; the bottle adds nothing - decide with the monsoon in mind
This is the honest cost of the Sukoon and the reason it is not simply the better answer. It is an ultrasonic diffuser: a fine water mist carries the fragrance, the 500ml tank is rinsed between fills, and the mist adds a little moisture to the room over a sixteen-hour run. In a dry, well-conditioned reception that is a non-issue. In a ground-floor clinic in a monsoon city that already fights damp from June to September, it is a reason to prefer a bottle, or to run the Sukoon on low and only in the afternoon. The Vaayu is waterless and adds nothing, which is genuinely its strongest argument - but at 500 sq ft the argument is answered by a reed for ₹849, not by a machine for ₹11,999. The musty pain clinic in monsoon works through the moisture question on its own.
Rule: if the clinic smells of damp at any point in the year, fix the damp before either device goes in. Fragrance over damp reads as sweet damp.
4
Control and habit
A reed count against a dial - both are enough for one room, and both depend on the desk
A bottle is adjusted by the number of reeds in it, one at a time, judged from a chair at four in the afternoon. A Sukoon is adjusted by a dial, and switched off at the desk when a patient asks. Neither has a timer or a lock, which means both rely on the front desk to do the right thing: flip weekly, refill on the day, not add reeds, not turn the dial up because the desk has stopped noticing. At 500 sq ft that is manageable, because the owner walks past the source ten times a day. It is at the larger sizes, when the source is high on a wall thirty metres from the desk and nobody is watching it, that timer and lock start to earn money, and that is the control argument the 1,000 sq ft decision makes. Here, a note at the desk does the job.
Rule: the desk stops noticing the scent within a week and concludes it has faded. The far chair at four is the only judge; write that down where the desk can see it.
5
Why not the Vaayu
Nothing to distribute across, control already solved, and a minimum that fills the room
Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water, distribution and uptime, never for coverage. At 500 sq ft each reason fails in turn. Distribution: there is no second zone thirty metres away; the air is one room. Control: a reed count or a Sukoon dial already gives the desk all the control one room needs. No water: real, but a bottle is also waterless and costs ₹849. Uptime: a 130ml bottle runs fourteen to eighteen weeks and a Sukoon runs a clinic day per fill. And then there is the minimum. The Vaayu's lowest intensity step is set for a floor of 2,000 sq ft; in 500 sq ft it produces a level the slowest patient can name from a chair by the first afternoon, and no placement corrects a source four times too large for its air. Not for this size. Reed diffuser versus waterless scent machine is the full comparison for when the floor is larger. Procedure rooms stay unscented whichever device you choose, kept so by the closed door and the source placed away from it.
Rule: a Vaayu bought at 500 sq ft is bought for a clinic you do not have. Buy the bottle, put the difference toward the chairs.

The SOSA principle
Five hundred square feet is a choice between a bottle that reaches one seating zone and a small machine that holds one open room. A machine built for two thousand square feet is not the premium option at this size; it is the wrong size.
Reeds for one zone. Sukoon for one room. Vaayu for a floor you do not yet have.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
For most 500 sq ft clinics: Mountain Breeze, ₹849 for 50ml - pine, sage and cedar; three or four reeds in on the staff end of the desk, furthest from the procedure door. One seating zone, one bottle.

SOSA VaayuThe verdict

The size below this is settled in how to scent a 300-400 sq ft pain clinic and the size above it in how to scent a 750 sq ft spine and pain clinic; the comparison between a bottle and a waterless machine at any size is reed diffuser versus waterless scent machine. SOSA makes no claim that any device affects pain, anxiety, stress, outcomes, bookings or spend; the table decides only which one is the right size for the air you have.

Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating, with no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress or affects outcomes, and no claim about bookings or spend. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and infection control, never instead of them. A note from Sonal

Five hundred square feet is the size at which I get asked about the Vaayu most often and recommend it least. The owner has seen the machine on a larger clinic's wall and wants the same thing, and I have to explain that the machine on that wall is doing a job their clinic does not have - carrying one level across a floor that a bottle cannot cross. Their clinic is a room. Rooms take bottles, or the small machine that takes water.

The one question I actually ask is where the chairs are. All in one place, and I sell a bottle and stop. Split across the room, with a window group and a desk group, and I sell a Sukoon, put it high on the wall the chairs face, and warn them about the tank and the monsoon. I have never sold a Vaayu at this size and I do not intend to start, because its lowest setting in a room that small is exactly the level a patient who walked in slowly will name at four in the afternoon, and that is the one failure a pain clinic cannot have.

So: a Mountain Breeze at ₹849 for one seating zone, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 for one open room. Nothing more. As on every page: fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating. I make no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress or changes any outcome. Procedure rooms stay unscented, the cabin is the doctor's, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan, including mine. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell whether my 500 sq ft reception is one seating zone or one open room?
Stand at the desk and look at the chairs. If they are in front of you, beside you or in one group within a few metres, it is one seating zone and a reed bottle is the right tool. If they are split into two groups with open floor between them - a window group and a desk group, say - it is one open room with two ends, a bottle reaches only one end, and a SOSA Sukoon placed high on the wall the chairs face holds one level across both.
Does the Sukoon's water mist cause a problem in a 500 sq ft clinic during monsoon?
It can. The Sukoon is ultrasonic and water-based, so its mist adds a little humidity over a sixteen-hour run and the tank is rinsed between fills. In a dry, air-conditioned reception that is nothing; in a ground-floor clinic in a monsoon city already fighting damp it is a reason to prefer a reed bottle, or to run the Sukoon on low in the afternoons only. Fix any damp before either device goes in - fragrance over damp reads as sweet damp.
Why does SOSA refuse to sell a Vaayu for a 500 sq ft pain clinic?
Because every reason to buy one fails at this size. There is no second zone to distribute to, a reed count or Sukoon dial already gives one room all the control it needs, and a bottle is also waterless. Its lowest intensity step is set for about 2,000 sq ft of connected air, and in 500 sq ft it fills the room to a level a slow-walking patient can name from a chair at four in the afternoon. It becomes discussable from 750 sq ft, for control, never for coverage.
Can I run both a reed at the desk and a Sukoon in the waiting area of a 500 sq ft clinic?
You can, but you rarely should. Two sources in one open room of this size produce a nameable level where their reach overlaps, usually at the desk where the slowest patient stands longest. Choose one: the Sukoon on a high shelf if the room has two ends, the bottle at the desk if it has one. If you already own both, run the Sukoon and put the bottle in the cabin only if the doctor asks for it - the cabin is their call.
Where should the Sukoon sit in a 500 sq ft pain clinic so the procedure room stays unscented?
High on a shelf on the wall the chairs face, on the side of the room furthest from the procedure door, away from the entrance draught and away from any AC supply or return grille. The procedure room stays completely unscented by rule, kept so by that placement and a door closed between cases, never by a lower setting inside. SOSA makes no claim that any placement affects pain, anxiety, stress or outcomes; it decides only where the mist goes.

No SOSA product is a medical device. Ambient fragrance in a clinic is an interior and hospitality decision only: SOSA makes no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress, alters mood, improves patient outcomes, shortens perceived waiting time, purifies air or affects bookings, retention or spend, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or infection control. Where a patient is sensitive to fragrance the correct response is to reduce or switch off. Procedure and clinical rooms are left unscented, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
