Founder Diaries · Reed Diffuser & Home Fragrance Gifting

Most people answer this on the wrong axis. They ask whether a renovation is a big enough occasion for a gift of this kind, which is a question about ceremony and has no useful answer. The axis that decides it is physical. A whole-home fragrance gift is a bet on how much of a house is one connected body of air, and a renovation is the one event that changes that answer. Walls came down or they did not. Everything else here follows from which.
The machine this question reaches, and only where the work joined the floor into one space. SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - waterless cold-air diffusion producing a dry residue-free mist, published for up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, with a 400ml tank, app and button control, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour run windows, adjustable intensity and operation under 38 dB. Four 100 ml fragrances in the box.
Quick answers — read this first
Does a whole-home fragrance gift make sense for a renovation rather than a new purchase? It makes sense for the same reason in both cases and fails for the same reason: it depends on whether the floor is now one connected volume. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air. A renovation that opened a kitchen into a dining area is precisely the case where that figure starts to apply.
Is a renovated house different from a newly bought one for this? Yes, in one way that matters. It is the same address, so the house already has a scent history and habits attached to it - a kitchen that cooks the same food, a wardrobe, a corner where something is lit. Fragrance is being added to a place that already smells of its own life, which is a different starting point from an empty new flat, though not a harder one.
Will it deal with the paint and polish left behind by the work? No. Fragrance adds a scent; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify a smell, and it does not clean the air. A newly finished surface needs ventilation and time, and nothing in a bottle shortens that. The dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue on surfaces, not about air quality.
The short answer
Short answer: Answer it on the plan, not on the occasion. A whole-home fragrance gift works where a house is one connected body of air, and a renovation is the event that changes whether it is. SOSA Vaayu is Rs 11,999 for up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, scheduled from an app.
The pick:SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 if the work opened the floor into one volume. If the renovation was finishes rather than walls, reed diffusers from ₹749 room by room.
Why: The published coverage figure describes one connected body of air, the machine runs under 38 dB and on a schedule rather than always, and it arrives complete with four 100 ml fragrances.
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Does a whole-home fragrance gift make sense for a house that was renovated rather than newly bought?
Yes, but only on one condition, and the condition has nothing to do with the occasion. A whole-home fragrance gift is a claim about air, and air follows enclosure. Ask what the work actually did. If it took out the wall between the kitchen and the dining area, or opened a passage into the living room, or pulled a false ceiling up over a stairwell, then the house is now one volume where it used to be three, and the gift that was wrong at this address last year is right at it this year. If the work was finishes - floors, joinery, bathrooms, paint - the doors are where they always were, and the honest answer is bottles rather than a machine. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the machine version: waterless cold-air diffusion, a dry residue-free mist with no water and no heat, published for up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours with day scheduling and adjustable intensity, under 38 dB, on DC 12V / 1A at 5W. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, made in India, and it ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each. Two straight things. The same address means the house already has a scent history, so this is an addition to something rather than a first mark on a blank page. And a newly finished surface smells of itself: fragrance does not remove, neutralise or mask a smell, and what a new finish needs is ventilation and time. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The occasion is not the question. The question is whether the work joined rooms together or only re-dressed them, because that is what a coverage figure is about.
The default on this page: Vaayu at ₹11,999 where the work joined the floor into one volume - up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, four 100 ml fragrances in the box.
What a renovation changed, and why that decides the gift
Three things settle it, and the first one is answered by remembering the house as it was rather than by looking at any product page.
1
First
Did the work move walls, or only what is on them?
This is the whole decision and it takes about a minute. Renovations divide cleanly into two kinds. One kind changes the plan: a wall goes, a doorway is widened into an opening, a ceiling comes up, a kitchen that was a separate room becomes the end of a dining area. The other kind changes the finish: new floors, new joinery, new bathrooms, new paint, new lighting, with every door exactly where it was.
Only the first kind changes the answer to a fragrance question, because scent behaves like air and air follows enclosure rather than floor finish. A house that has been beautifully refinished room by room is still a set of rooms. A house where three rooms became one space is a different physical object from the one that stood at that address before, whatever the postbox says.
So before comparing anything, work out which renovation this was. If you are not sure, the giveaway is standing at the front door: how many of the spaces can you see into at once now, compared with the number you could see into before?
Tip: Walls moved means a machine is worth considering. Finishes changed means bottles, room by room.
2
Second
The coverage figure, and the thing it quietly assumes
Vaayu publishes something almost nothing in home fragrance publishes, which is a coverage figure: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. Read it strictly, because it carries an assumption. A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. It describes an open living-dining-stairwell floor or a double-height hall, not a floor area totted up across closed doors.
Worth knowing that the published figure is cubic and the square-foot line is a translation that assumes an ordinary ceiling height. Where a renovation took a ceiling up, or opened a floor into a void, the cubic figure is the one doing the work and the floor area means less than it looks. That is a conversation rather than an arithmetic problem, and SOSA publishes no figure for what a second machine would add, so a very large joined volume goes to WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Where the work was finishes only, this figure simply does not transfer, and the better gift is reed diffusers from ₹749 or a duo set from ₹1,498 in the two or three rooms that are actually used. That is a smaller spend and a more accurate one.
3
Third
The same address is the part nobody thinks about
A new flat has no scent history. A renovated house has years of one, and the people living in it have habits attached to it - where something is lit, what the kitchen does on a Sunday, which cupboard the linen comes out of. None of that was renovated. You are adding a layer to a house that already has a register, not writing on a blank page, and it is worth saying that out loud because it changes what a good gift looks like: something adjustable rather than something emphatic.
That is what the controls are for. It runs under 38 dB, is driven by a Bluetooth app or the buttons on it, with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. Low and occasional is a setting, not a compromise. It also arrives complete: every unit ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, so there is nothing further to buy on day one. Afterwards SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, and it takes alcohol-free, water-free oils made for cold-air diffusion.
Two honest gaps. The product page states how long a 400ml fill lasts in two different ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours in any case. And there is no published installation service, no warranty period and no running-cost figure.
Tip: Adjustable intensity matters more in a house with a history than in an empty new one.
Read the number strictly, not generously
About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of air that is actually connected
Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The caveat matters more than the number. A rating assumes one connected body of air. A ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell is one volume and is exactly what the figure describes. A bungalow of the same total area with six closed doors is not one volume, it is six rooms, and the figure does not transfer. Work out how much of the house is genuinely open before you work out anything else - and note that no guidance is published on what a second unit adds.
How to settle this in ten minutes, standing in the hallway
Ask what the work did. Moved walls, or only changed finishes on them?
Count what you can see into from the front door now against what you could before.
One joined volume means a machine. Separate rooms mean reeds from Rs 749.
Ask on WhatsApp what a 400ml fill lasts before you plan around any number.
The SOSA principle
A renovation is the only house event that changes the physics of this question. The address does not move, the furniture may not move, but if a wall went, the house is a different volume from the one that stood there, and a gift that would have been wrong last year can be exactly right now.
This is why the renovation case is genuinely not the same as the new-purchase case, and why the useful question is about the plan rather than about how much the work cost or how long it took.
Which four-scent set, and what a house with a history does with it
There are three published four-scent sets and all cost the same ₹11,999, so this is a taste decision rather than a budget one. They pair Ritz-Carlton with Westin, St. Regis and 1 Hotels inspirations; Westin with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton; and St. Regis with W Hotels, 1 Hotels and Four Seasons. Worth saying plainly what those are: SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, composed by SOSA, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. For a renovated family house there is a real argument for the quieter end of whichever set arrives. The house has a register of its own already, and the four 100 ml bottles exist so somebody can try them against that register rather than commit to one. If none of the four suits, SOSA waterless nebuliser refills at ₹1,049 for 100 gm make the correction a small one.
The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to spend this, and where each one stops working
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999
Waterless cold-air diffusion for up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, scheduled by app in 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows, complete in the box with four 100 ml fragrances. It stops working where the renovation left every door in place, because then there is no single volume for the figure to describe.
A reed duo set · ₹1,498 to ₹2,598
Two bottles in one box, about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to plug in and nothing to operate. Only three pairings are published and none is composed to order. The right answer for a renovation of finishes rather than walls, and it stops working in a large joined volume, where a passive bottle reaches the area immediately around it.
A single reed diffuser · ₹749 to ₹1,349
The accurate small gift for one room - the new study, the guest bedroom, the re-done entrance. It stops working only when it is asked to do a job three sizes too big, which is what happens when one bottle is bought for a floor that the builders joined into a single space.
An ultrasonic diffuser · ₹899 to ₹5,999
Boond at ₹899, Sukoon at ₹1,899 and Megh at ₹5,999 are water-based and suit a single room. They need water and regular refilling, which is a real weekly ask of somebody who did not choose the machine, and that is where they stop working as a gift.
The two details that matter in a finished house
Under 38 dB, and it runs only when you tell it to
Two published details decide whether this belongs in a house somebody spent years on. It runs under 38 dB, which is the answer to the reasonable worry about a machine humming in a double-height living room. And it is scheduled: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, with auto-stop and a key-lock. That is what makes it workable in a house occupied for part of the year, or a room used only when people come over. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances - so it is complete on the day it arrives.
One note on scale, because a renovation that cost a great deal invites the assumption that the largest machine is the compliment. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is commercial equipment - a hotel, a showroom, a corporate floor. For a renovated house it is not the ambitious choice, it is the wrong one, and the catalogue holds nothing between the two. At the other end, SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is portable and goes with a person to a car or a hotel room rather than scenting a property; it is imported rather than made in India. attars from ₹379 are worn rather than placed, and candles from ₹399 need a flame and somebody to light them, with no burn-hour figure published. None of those is a worse product. They answer different questions from the one a renovated floor plan asks.
₹11,999. Up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume. A 400ml tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h run windows and adjustable intensity. Under 38 dB.
165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding on a surface or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with auto-stop and a key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS marks.
Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets. So it is complete on arrival, which matters more for a gift than it sounds.
four x 100 ml included
The number this whole decision turns on, and where it stops being true
Up to 1000 m3 - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of connected air
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing else in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. It is a waterless cold-air machine producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, running under 38 dB on DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, and its country of origin is India. But a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. That figure describes an open-plan living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall - the kind of volume a small passive bottle cannot reach. It does not describe a bungalow with every internal door closed, because that is not one volume; it is six. Above about 3,000 sq ft of genuinely connected space, or across separated wings, the honest answer is a conversation rather than a number, because no multi-unit guidance is published. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine rather than a house gift.
Tell SOSA who it is for, roughly how big the room is, whether their home is already scented and what you want to spend - and you will be told which size and which scent, including the times the honest answer is the 50ml rather than the 130ml.
The postbox is the same. The volume may not be. A renovation is the one event that can make a whole-home answer true at an address where it was false.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much air it is meant to handle
Up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume - a 400ml tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h scheduling, adjustable intensity, under 38 dB
Worn on the body rather than placed in a room - the right answer when the gift is about the person and not the house
from ₹379
A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. Vaayu's figure describes an open-plan volume - a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall. A house with every internal door shut is not one volume, and the figure does not transfer to it. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, and its country of origin is India. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune. The honest spec sheet
What the Vaayu page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The machine - waterless cold-air diffusion, dry and residue-free, no water and no heat. 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A, 5W. Under 38 dB. Auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS. Country of origin India.
Control - a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity. This is what makes it workable in a house that is empty for stretches, or a room used only at weekends.
In the box - every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
The fragrance - alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and are published for Vaayu and Safar. The water-based ultrasonic bottles belong to a different kind of machine.
Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long a 400ml fill lasts as a single figure - the page says about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another; what a second unit adds; any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; and any running or electricity cost. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Not sure whether the house needs a machine or a bottle? Tell SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 four things: roughly how much of the ground floor is one connected open volume, whether the internal doors stay open or shut, how often the house is actually occupied, and what you want to spend. You will get one straight answer rather than a catalogue - including the times the honest answer is a reed diffuser from ₹749 or a duo set from ₹1,498 rather than a machine. What is not on this page, because SOSA does not publish it: what a second unit adds, any warranty period, any installation service, any running or electricity cost, and any app or Bluetooth compatibility detail. One thing to check before you buy: the Vaayu page states the life of a 400ml fill two different ways - about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours in any case, so ask rather than plan around a number. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each; SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; quantities and anything commercial are settled on WhatsApp rather than priced on a page. Bespoke composition, a fragrance composed for you by Sonal, is a real SOSA service and is also discussed there. Where SOSA is: an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India, with no shop, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.

A note from Sonal
The messages I find hardest to answer are the ones that begin with an apology. They have just finished building the house. I don't want to sound cheap, but I also can't buy them anything that matters at that scale. And underneath it is a real anxiety: that after years of drawings and delays and site visits, whatever you turn up with will look like a token.
What I would say is that the anxiety is aimed at the wrong thing. You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. The people who built it spent two years choosing between four shades of the same stone, and there is no object you can hand over that will register on that scale. Trying is how people end up buying a vase that gets moved to a spare room.
The reason I keep coming back to scent for these particular houses is unromantic. It is the last layer, and it is the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening, and then everybody stops - because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it is one of the few things left that adds to a finished house without arguing with a single decision already made in it.
The part I would be careful about is the number. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does, and I would rather you read it strictly than generously. About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, of air that is actually connected. A ground floor that opens living into dining into a stairwell is that. A bungalow with six closed doors is not that, whatever its total square footage says on paper, and a page that blurs the two is doing you no favours.
Frequently asked questions
How much space does SOSA Vaayu actually cover?
The published figure is up to 1000 cubic metres, stated on the product page as approximately 2,000 to 3,000 square feet. Read it as one connected body of air rather than as a total floor area. It describes an open living-dining floor or a double-height hall, not a house whose rooms are separated by closed doors. SOSA publishes no figure for what a second machine would add.
Does a renovation change whether this kind of gift is suitable?
It can, and that is the point. If the work removed walls or opened a kitchen into a dining area, the house is now one connected volume where it used to be several, and a coverage figure that did not apply at that address before may apply now. If the work was floors, joinery and paint with every door where it was, nothing physical changed for this purpose and bottles are the better gift.
Will a fragrance machine deal with a new-construction smell?
No, and it is better to know that before buying. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify anything, and it does not clean the air. A newly finished floor or a freshly painted wall needs ventilation and time. The dry, residue-free mist Vaayu produces is a statement about residue on surfaces, not about air quality.
How often will the tank need refilling?
The tank is 400 ml and refillable, but the product page states its life two different ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more days in its body copy - and either way it depends on the intensity setting and how many hours a day it is scheduled to run. Ask SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 rather than planning around a single number.
Is it noisy, and does it have to run all day?
It is published as operating under 38 dB, and it runs only when it is told to. Control is by Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. In a house somebody has just finished living around builders in, low and occasional is a setting rather than a compromise.

About the coverage figure: a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure describes an open-plan volume such as a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level or a double-height hall, and does not describe a property whose rooms are separated by closed doors, whatever its total floor area. No guidance is published on what a second unit adds. About tank life: the Vaayu product page states the life of one 400 ml fill in two different ways - approximately 75 days in its specification and FAQ data, and 90 or more days in its body copy - and in either case it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours, so no single figure is stated on this page. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; any running or electricity cost; and any multi-unit coverage. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim; a dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue and not about air quality. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing, nor about how any recipient or guest will feel, nor about what a gift does for any business result. No page here characterises any recipient's wealth or describes people who own particular kinds of property; where a property value appears it is the figure the reader themselves supplied as context. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.
