Reception vs Physiotherapy Floor: Should Fragrance Intensity Be Different?

Yes, and it is never a matter of preference which way round: the physiotherapy floor runs under reception, every time, in every building. Two things make that a rule rather than a taste. The first is breathing. Reception is set for the slowest walker - a pain patient who crossed the threshold on a stick, sat down, and will sit for forty minutes; the level is judged from that chair at four in the afternoon, a notch under any other clinic, and how strong fragrance should be in a pain waiting room gives the four behaviours it produces. A patient on the physio floor is in the building for the same forty minutes but moving, and a person moving breathes several times the air per minute that a person sitting does. The same setting, the same air, is met harder. The second is the room. By six in the evening a physio floor smells faintly of the people who have used it and the towels waiting to leave; reception does not. Any fragrance in that room is competing with something, and the only way it wins is by being so low that it is not a competitor - a trace a patient meets walking in from the corridor, and nothing a patient can name from the middle of the floor. So the physio level is the reception level minus something, and the something is not produced by a second setting. Owners hear "two intensities" and picture two machines, one in each room, dialled differently. In one connected volume of air that does not work: two sources raise the whole building, and the physio unit puts the fullest air exactly where it should be thinnest. Two intensities in one volume come from one source and distance. If reception seems to have too little, wait a week; the desk stops noticing within days and concludes the machine has stopped, and the far chair is the only judge. Two volumes - a closed door, separate AC, a different floor - change the mechanism, not the direction. The physio side becomes its own decision: nothing until it smells of nothing on its own at six, then possibly a second unit of the same register at a step or two under the front, placed high and away from the tables; scenting a clinic with a large rehabilitation area is that page.
