This is one of the most common surprises in an older Sector 63 office running on multiple split ACs: a machine works beautifully in one cabin and seems to do nothing in the one right next door. The reason is not the machine. It is what a split AC actually does with the air in a room.
Quick answers — read this first
Why does fragrance stay trapped in some cabins and not others when we have multiple split ACs? Because each split AC recirculates air only within the room it serves - it does not exchange air with the cabin next door. A closed corridor door means very little air actually crosses between cabins through the day. Fragrance placed in one cabin builds up in that recirculation loop and has no route into the next one, which is a zoning fact, not a sign the machine or its setting is too weak.

Does a stronger or bigger scent machine fix uneven fragrance between cabins? No. The issue is not machine power, it is that each cabin is its own independently air-conditioned zone. A stronger machine in one cabin will simply build up further in that same cabin - it still cannot cross into a room it has no air path to. The fix is one machine per cabin, not one stronger machine for the floor.

How many scent machines does an office with multiple split ACs need? Roughly one per independently air-conditioned zone that needs to be scented, not one for the total square footage. A SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) is rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, but that number assumes connected air - a cabin on its own split AC is a separate volume regardless of size.
The short answer
Short answer: each split AC recirculates air only within its own room, so a cabin with fragrance and a cabin without it are simply two separate, sealed air loops - the fix is a machine per independently air-conditioned zone, not a stronger one.
The pick: place a SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per independently air-conditioned cabin that needs scenting, rather than one machine for the whole floor.
Next step: map which cabins share air handling and which do not, and we will help size the count - book a free scenting plan.
Why split ACs turn one office into many sealed boxesCabin A - split AC recirculates within this room only, fragrance builds hereCorridor door - closed most of the day, very little air actually crosses itCabin B - its own split AC, its own recirculation loop, no fragrance from A arrivesFix: one machine per independently air-conditioned cabin, not one for the whole floor
A split AC recirculates air within its own room and does not exchange it with the room next door. Each cabin is effectively its own sealed box - which is exactly why fragrance pools in one and never reaches another.

Straight answer
Why does fragrance stay in some cabins and never reach others on multiple split ACs?
A split AC unit takes the air already in its room, cools it, and puts it back into that same room. It does not draw in fresh air from the corridor and it does not exchange air with the cabin next door - it recirculates one room's air, in a closed loop, indefinitely. This means every cabin on its own split AC is, for scenting purposes, its own sealed box, regardless of how close it sits to the cabin next to it or whether the connecting door is sometimes left open. Fragrance released into Cabin A builds up inside Cabin A's recirculation loop. It has no route into Cabin B, because Cabin B has its own separate loop, its own separate air. This is a zoning fact, not a machine-power fact - a bigger, stronger, more expensive machine in Cabin A will not solve the problem, because the air in Cabin B was never connected to it in the first place. The practical answer is to stop thinking about "the office" as one space for scenting purposes and start thinking about it as a set of independently air-conditioned zones. Cabins on separate split ACs each need their own consideration - some may not need scenting at all, some may need a SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, each rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) of their own. An open corridor or a shared central AC loop is a different situation, where one machine placed on the shared air path can genuinely cover more than one room. A free scenting plan can help you map which of your cabins actually share air handling before you buy anything, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
A split AC recirculates within its own room only. Each cabin is its own sealed box - fragrance needs a machine per zone, not a stronger machine for the floor.
Where a cabin genuinely needs scenting and sits on its own split AC, a SOSA Vaayu for that room - waterless, under 38dB, up to 1000m³, 400ml tank running up to 75 days - is the right unit, sized to that one recirculation loop.

How to tell which cabins actually share air

A quick check tells you whether two rooms are one zone or two, before you buy anything.

1
Check the AC type, room by room
Split unit versus shared central system
Walk the floor and note which rooms have their own split unit and which are served by a central AHU or ducted system. A split unit almost always means that room is its own zone. A shared ducted system, or a common return-air grille, means the rooms on it are genuinely connected for air purposes, even if they look separate.
Tip: ask facilities for the AC layout drawing if one exists - it settles this faster than testing room by room.
2
Test with a door, not a nose
A closed corridor door moves very little air across it, all day
Even a door left open occasionally does not create meaningful air exchange between two separately air-conditioned rooms. If you want to confirm it, place a machine in one cabin, keep the connecting door in its normal daily position, and check the next room after a few hours - if the fragrance has not moved, the AC is telling you these are two zones.
3
Size by zone, not by total floor area
One machine per independently air-conditioned room that needs it
Once you know which cabins are genuinely separate, size each on its own - a Vaayu per cabin that needs scenting, not one larger machine for the total square footage of the floor. Some cabins, particularly ones staff sit in all day, may not need scenting at all; see our note on scenting by zone rather than by total area.
Tip: not every cabin needs a machine - reception and visitor-facing rooms first, workstations rarely at all.

The SOSA principle
The office is not one space for scenting purposes. It is however many independently air-conditioned rooms the split ACs actually create.
Fragrance follows air, not floor plans - and a split AC keeps its air to itself.

Once you know your zones, the next question is how to size each one properly - see scenting an older Noida office by zone rather than by total square footage, including the volume arithmetic. And if pantry smell is also travelling somewhere it should not, that is the same air-path logic in reverse - see why pantry smell dominates reception by afternoon.

Each split AC keeps its own air. A SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) sized per zone works; one bigger machine for the total floor area does not.

A split AC does not care how close the next door is. It keeps its air to itself - and so does whatever you put into it.

A note from Sonal

A client once asked why the fragrance in his corner office "just would not travel" to the cabin next door, despite both doors being open most of the day. The answer was in his AC layout, not his fragrance choice: two split units, two separate recirculation loops, and an open door that, in practice, moved almost no air between them.

Once I explained that each split AC keeps its air to itself, the plan became simple - a SOSA Vaayu per cabin that genuinely needed it, sized to that one room rather than the floor as a whole, at 1000m³ each. Some cabins, mostly ones staff sat in all day, we left unscented entirely.

The lesson I give every client with multiple split ACs is the same: think in zones, not square footage. A stronger machine in one room will never reach a room it has no air path to - that is not a power problem, it is a plumbing-of-air problem, and no amount of fragrance changes it. Everything SOSA makes is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Why does fragrance stay trapped in one cabin and never reach the next on multiple split ACs?
Because each split AC recirculates air only within the room it serves - it does not exchange air with the room next door. Fragrance released into one cabin builds up in that cabin's own loop and has no route into a separately air-conditioned cabin, regardless of how close the two rooms are.
Will a stronger scent machine fix uneven fragrance between cabins?
No. The issue is that each cabin on its own split AC is a separate, sealed air loop, not that the machine is underpowered. A stronger unit in one cabin simply builds up further in that same cabin and still cannot cross into a room it has no air connection to.
How many scent machines does an office with several split ACs need?
Roughly one per independently air-conditioned zone that actually needs scenting, not one sized to the total floor area. A SOSA Vaayu, Rs 11,999, covers up to 1000m³ of connected air, so a cabin on its own split AC is sized on its own, regardless of the building's total square footage.
Does leaving cabin doors open help fragrance travel between rooms?
Only a little, and often not enough to matter. A door left open occasionally does not create the kind of continuous air exchange that would let fragrance move between two separately air-conditioned rooms. If the rooms share a central ducted system instead of separate split units, air genuinely moves between them and one machine can cover both.
Do all cabins in an office need to be scented?
No. Visitor-facing cabins and reception are the natural priority. Staff workstation cabins, where people sit for a full working day, are often better left unscented or very light, since an employee cannot leave the building the way a visitor can if the fragrance does not suit them.
