When is it the wrong gift? A normal sized home, somebody who dislikes devices, a short-term rental, or somebody who would find another consumable a burden.
What should I give instead in those cases? Reed diffusers from Rs 749, duo sets from Rs 1,498, or refills at Rs 2,399 if they already own the bottles.
Yes in three situations, and no in four
This is the page where a shop is supposed to say yes, so it is worth stating plainly that we turn down more orders for this machine than for anything else we sell, and that the reason is not modesty. A machine that lands in the wrong home does not get used, and a gift that does not get used is worse than a cheaper gift that does - for the recipient, who now has an object to store, and for the giver, whose present is quietly a failure. So here is the honest division. The three cases where the answer is yes. First and most important, the home is genuinely large. The SOSA Vaayu is rated for up to a thousand cubic metres, which the product states as about two thousand to three thousand square feet, and it belongs in a villa, a large open-plan apartment, a penthouse, or a four or five bedroom home of roughly that area. In a home of that size a machine does something that no arrangement of bottles achieves, which is one consistent strength across the whole volume including the corridors, landings and entrance where nobody puts a bottle. That is the entire case for it and it is a strong one. Second, they have shown that they respond to scented space. Somebody who has remarked on a hotel lobby, asked at a reception what the fragrance was, or said they wish the house smelled of something has told you this is a want rather than an imposition. Third, they entertain. A household that has people over most weekends experiences the difference in a way a quiet household does not, because the impression a home makes on arrival is precisely what a machine handles and precisely what a bottle in the living room does not. Now the four cases where the answer is no, and each has a better alternative. The first is the ordinary sized home, and it is by far the most common. A two or three bedroom flat of eleven hundred or fourteen hundred square feet does not need a machine rated for a thousand cubic metres, and the outcome is not neutral - it is an over-scented home, which is unpleasant, and the fault lands on the gift. A discerning recipient notices it in a day. The correct gift there is reed diffusers, and they are correct rather than lesser: Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty; Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine; Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine; and a duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees, which is the version to give as a present because it puts two registers in two rooms. The second no is the person who does not like devices. Some people find another thing to plug in, set up, update and think about to be a cost rather than a benefit, and no specification overcomes that. It does not matter that the Vaayu is simple - Bluetooth app or onboard buttons, one, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows, day selection, adjustable intensity, under thirty-eight decibels, five watts, auto-stop and a key lock. If the person's instinct is fewer devices, bottles are the right gift, because the best product is the one that gets used rather than the one with the better mechanism. The third no is a short-term rental. Somebody in a place for a year, or planning to move, is not going to want an object that suits wall or HVAC mounting and brings a recurring consumable with it, even though the Vaayu does lie flat on a shelf and needs no drilling. Bottles travel; systems settle. The fourth no is the person who has said they do not want more things, and here the sentence should simply be believed. A machine is an object to place, to schedule and to refill, so it adds a small recurring obligation to their life. The right gift for them is the consumable: a three hundred millilitre reed refill at two thousand three hundred and ninety-nine rupees if they own bottles, nebuliser oils at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams if they own a waterless machine, or Hotel Collection fifteen millilitres at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees if they own an ultrasonic one. Those three do not interchange, incidentally, and mixing them up is the commonest mistake in this category - waterless machines take nebuliser oils, ultrasonic machines take the water-based Hotel Collection, and reeds take reed oil. Two more situations that are neither yes nor no but need a different answer. If the home is above roughly three thousand square feet, or if what is being scented is a showroom, clinic or office rather than a house, the machine is too small and the honest recommendation is above it: SOSA Angaan at twenty-five thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees for around eight to ten thousand square feet, or SOSA Meenar at thirty-eight thousand five hundred for twelve to eighteen thousand, both HVAC nebulising units. And if they have just moved in, the answer is yes but not yet - paint, varnish, polish and new joinery need a few weeks of open windows first, because fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix. If the yes applies, two practical things make the gift work. It ships with four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, so it runs the evening it is opened rather than waiting on a second purchase, and it should be placed in the path of the home's main circulation or near an air conditioning return rather than in a corner, with intensity started low and raised. And one thing this page will not do: claim any benefit beyond fragrance. There is nothing here about sleep, health, allergies or air purification. It is a machine that makes a large home smell consistently of something pleasant, and that is the whole of the offer.

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
