Garden Bloom ₹799
Mountain Breeze ₹849
Bookshop ₹379
Day & Night duo ₹1,498
Reed refill 300ml ₹2,399
The step-four default: Garden Bloom 50ml ₹799. If you know they reject floral: Mountain Breeze ₹849. If the list is long: a jar candle at ₹379.
The three names to pull out at step five: anyone who works for you (cash first, an object only alongside); anyone you gave a diffuser to last Diwali (a 300ml refill at ₹2,399, not a second bottle); and any home with a newborn, a single room or a stated dislike of fragrance (a ceramic trinket dish at ₹664).
What the method refuses to do: compare fragrances for people whose homes you have never seen. That is the step that turns five minutes into two hours, and it cannot improve the outcome, because the information it needs does not exist.
2. Split once, into two groups only. (60 seconds) Group A is everyone who will see each other's gifts — one office, one set of cousins, one building. Group B is everyone else. Default if you are unsure which group someone belongs in: put them in group A. Nobody has ever regretted uniformity; several people have regretted an accidental ranking.
3. Set one per-head figure per group. (30 seconds) Default: ₹749–₹849, which is the reed diffuser band. If the list is into double figures, drop group A to ₹379–₹474 and keep the reed band for group B. Do not set a figure per person — that is a decision multiplied by the length of your list.
4. Choose one product per group. (60 seconds) Default: Garden Bloom 50ml ₹799. Rose and night-blooming jasmine has the widest agreement in our range. If you know the household rejects floral: Mountain Breeze ₹849. If the figure is ₹379–₹474: a jar candle at ₹379 or a mug at ₹474.
5. Pull out the three exceptions, then order. (60 seconds) Anyone who works for you — cash first, an object only alongside. Anyone you gave a diffuser to last Diwali — a 300ml refill at ₹2,399, which is oil only and runs roughly 8–11 months. Any home with a newborn, a single room, or a stated dislike of scent — a trinket dish at ₹664 assumes nothing.
6. Place one order and stop. Free shipping starts at ₹499, so consolidating saves money as well as time. Then do not reopen the decision — reopening is where the other two hours go.
7. What is not on offer. There is no gift card, no gift hamper, no gift box and no curated gift set at SOSA; if you were hoping to shortcut step four with a voucher, it does not exist. And no delivery timing is promised anywhere on this page — check current delivery timelines at checkout.

Part one — the three things that turn five minutes into two hours
The method is short because the decision is small. What makes it feel enormous is a set of habits that add work without adding accuracy. Each of the three below feels like diligence and functions as delay, and if you recognise yourself in one of them, that is the step where your evening usually disappears.
Bookshop candle₹379Per-person choosing feels respectful and is arithmetically brutal: fourteen names is fourteen independent problems, and the mind refuses to start on a task of that shape. Choosing per group turns it back into one problem with a multiplier. 14 × ₹379 = ₹5,306 for a group of fourteen using Bookshop or Misty Mornings jar candles is a complete list, decided once, ordered once. The per-person version of the same list produces fourteen decisions, a longer evening, roughly the same spend and — because the items will not match — a worse impression on any group that compares them.Part two — the five steps, with the default at each branch
Here is the procedure in full. Every row has a stated default so that no branch can stall you, and the seconds are in the first column so you can see where you actually are. No price for anything outside our own range appears here; the method is about structure, not about beating another category on cost.
| Step · seconds | The question you ask | If the answer is yes | If the answer is no | Default if you do not know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · 30s ★ | How many names are actually unbought? | Write the number. It sets everything else | You have not started. Write the list first | Count generously — an extra bottle is a spare |
| 2 · 60s | Will any of these people see each other's gifts? | They are one group and get one identical gift | They can be handled independently | Treat them as one group. Uniformity never backfires |
| 3 · 30s | Is the group into double figures? | Set ₹379–₹474 a head for that group | Set ₹749–₹849, the reed band | Take ₹749–₹849 — it clears free shipping alone |
| 4 · 60s | Do you know this group rejects floral? | Mountain Breeze 50ml ₹849 | Garden Bloom 50ml ₹799 | Garden Bloom ₹799, or ₹379 at the lower band |
| 5a · 20s | Does anyone on the list work for you? | Cash first. Sandalwood ₹449 alongside if you want an object | Leave them in the main group | Cash. It is what most people in those roles would choose |
| 5b · 20s | Did you give anyone a diffuser last Diwali? | 300ml oil refill ₹2,399, roughly 8–11 months | Leave them in the main group | A different 50ml scent for a second room |
| 5c · 20s | Newborn, one-room flat, or fragrance-averse? | Trinket dish ₹664 or mug ₹474 | Leave them in the main group | The mug. It assumes nothing at all |
| The honest caveat: a default is a way of spending a lack of information cheaply, not a claim that the default is the best gift for that person. Where you genuinely know someone — their rooms, their habits, what they already own — override every row above and buy for them slowly, even if it means doing that name after the rest. The method exists to clear the part of the list you cannot know anything about, so that the part you can know something about gets the attention it deserves. | ||||

Part three — when five minutes is not enough
A procedure that claims to work everywhere is a procedure lying somewhere, so here is where this one stops. The first exception is the one name on your list you actually know. A parent, a sibling, the friend whose flat you have sat in a hundred times — for that person the defaults are not a shortcut but a waste of the information you already hold. Take them out at step two, give them an hour rather than a minute, and let the method clear everyone else so that the hour is available. That is the real argument for defaults: not that considered gifts do not matter, but that spending consideration where you have no data leaves none for where you do.
The second exception is anyone who works for you, and it is not a timing problem but a form problem. House help, a driver, security staff, the team that maintains the building — cash is flexible, it is the established convention, and it is what most people in those roles would choose. No five-minute product decision answers that question, because the question is whether an object is the right form at all. The honest recommendation is usually cash, with something small alongside as a courtesy rather than a replacement: a Sandalwood candle at ₹449 or a mug at ₹474. Cash first, object second, never object instead. A method built for speed is exactly the thing that gets this backwards, because an object takes one click and cash takes a trip.
The third exception is a home you have specific reason to think will not want fragrance — a newborn in the house, a single room where a bottle would stand between the bed and the stove, or someone who has said outright that scented things are too much for them. A reed diffuser is constant and passive; it has no switch, which is its virtue and its one inflexibility. Where a household does not want a constant, the gift becomes a bottle in a cupboard, and no amount of choosing quickly or slowly fixes that. The ceramic trinket dish at ₹664 is the row I would take there. And two plain facts while we are on the subject: a diffuser adds fragrance to a room and does nothing else — it does not clean air or remove a cooking smell, and during heavy cooking ventilation is the answer rather than more fragrance. Fragrance oil is flammable, so in a home lighting diyas and candles, keep the bottle well away from any open flame.
Part four — the method run on six real lists
Six lists I have been sent some version of, each run through the five steps, with the branch that decided it and the arithmetic at the end. Find the shape closest to yours and take the outcome.
| Your list | The branch that decides it | What you end up with | The total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four cousins, no information about any of them ★ | Step 4, no data — take the default | 4 × Garden Bloom 50ml | 4 × ₹799 = ₹3,196 |
| A team of nine who sit in one room | Step 2 — they are one group, so one gift | 9 × Morning Freshness 50ml | 9 × ₹749 = ₹6,741 |
| Two parents, plus six relatives you barely see | Step 2 — parents leave the group | Day & Night duo + 6 × Garden Bloom | ₹1,498 + ₹4,794 = ₹6,292 |
| Fourteen names and a modest budget | Step 3 — double figures, drop the band | 14 × Bookshop jar candle | 14 × ₹379 = ₹5,306 |
| Three people who work in your building | Step 5a — the form is wrong, not the price | Cash, plus 3 × Sandalwood candle | 3 × ₹449 = ₹1,347 on top of the cash |
| One name, and you know them well | Step 2 — they leave the method entirely | Fresh & Grounded duo, two 50ml bottles | ₹1,548 |
Versailles
I spent years believing that the considered gift and the quick gift were morally different things, and that speed was a compromise you made when you had run out of virtue. Then I started paying attention to where my own hours actually went during a gifting week. Almost none of it was consideration. It was comparison, conducted with no facts, about people whose homes I have never entered.
A default is not a lowering of standards. It is an admission that for most names on most lists, no amount of thinking will produce information you do not have — and that the honest thing is to choose the option whose failure is smallest and hand the saved hour to the two or three people you can genuinely buy for. That is what this procedure is for. It is not designed to make you spend more; run properly, it usually makes you spend less, because a per-group figure is almost always below the per-person one you would have drifted to.
I will not tell you that any gift chosen this way will be appreciated or remembered, because nobody can know that. I can tell you what a bottle is, how long it runs, what it needs from the person receiving it, and what we do not sell — no gift card, no hamper, no box, and no delivery date I am able to promise. Everything is made in Pune in small batches, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
