Most zoning plans are drawn by room name. Air does not read room names.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I divide a spa into scent zones? By doors rather than by function. Every enclosure formed by a door that genuinely closes is one zone, because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a shut door.

How many zone types are there? Four. Wet spaces get nothing, wet-adjacent spaces get the lowest working level, circulation runs very low, and destinations like reception carry the working level.

Should each zone have a different scent? No. One register throughout, varied only by level. A change of register between spaces reads as a discontinuity rather than as a design.
The short answer
Short answer: Zones are decided by doors, not room names. Four types: wet, wet-adjacent, circulation, destination.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.

A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
How should a spa with showers, steam rooms and dry treatment areas be divided into scent zones?
Draw the zones by walking the plan with a pen and marking every door that genuinely closes. A zone is defined by a door, not by a function, because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a shut door - so every enclosure a closing door creates is one zone, whatever it is called on the drawing. Then sort those zones into four types. Type one, wet spaces - steam rooms, saunas, shower interiors - get nothing at all, permanently, because heavily ventilated wet air will not hold a register and equipment does not belong near heat and water. Type two, wet-adjacent spaces - changing areas, the corridor past the wet zone, treatment rooms with their own shower - run at the lowest working level, and permanently rather than seasonally, because they are humid rooms all year. Type three, circulation - corridors and stairs - runs very low or nothing, since a corridor is a conduit already carrying everybody else's air. Type four, destinations - reception, lounge, retail - carries the working level. And one register throughout, varied only by level: a change of level reads as the building quietening, while a change of register reads as a fault. Hotel Collection from ₹299, SOSA Megh ₹3,499, SOSA Boond ₹799. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Quick answer: mark every door that closes. That is your zone map. Then sort the zones into four types.

Walk the plan with a pen and mark every door that closes

The reason most spa zoning plans do not work is that they are drawn by room name, and air does not read room names. The physical fact that governs everything here is simple: a machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air, and it cannot cross a door that is shut. So the boundaries of your zones are not where the function changes, they are where the doors are. The method follows directly from that, and it takes about twenty minutes. Take the floor plan and walk the building with a pen. Mark every door that genuinely closes and stays closed in normal operation. Do not mark doors that are propped open all day, because those are not doors for this purpose - they are openings, and the spaces on either side are one zone whether you like it or not. When you have finished, the enclosures you have drawn are your zones. You will usually find you have more of them than you expected, and that two spaces you had thought of as one are actually separate, and that two spaces you had thought of as separate are actually joined by a door nobody ever closes. That last discovery is often the most useful thing on the page. Now sort what you have drawn into four types, because a spa has four and most buildings have two. Type one is wet space: steam rooms, saunas, shower interiors, and the inside of any wet cabin. These get nothing, permanently, and this is not a matter of preference. Heavily ventilated wet air will not hold a register in any useful way, so anything put there is wasted at best, and equipment has no business being installed near heat and water. Whatever aromatic material is used inside a steam or sauna context is a separate matter belonging to your operator and your equipment supplier and their guidance. SOSA ambient fragrance is for the air of ordinary rooms only. It is never for skin, never for massage oil, never added to masks, facial preparations or steam preparations, and never installed inside a wet cabin. Type two is wet-adjacent: the changing area, the corridor that runs past the wet zone, any treatment room with its own shower, the lobby between wet and dry. These are ordinary rooms and they should carry the house register, but at the lowest working level in the building, and permanently rather than seasonally. The reason is that they are running in a heavier medium all year. Humid air clears less readily, so the same setting is effectively a higher setting, and these spaces are also receiving warm wet air from the wet zone every time a door opens. Setting a treatment room with its own shower to the same number as a dry treatment room on the other side of the building produces two different results from one specification, and then somebody spends a season trying to work out why one room gets complaints. Type three is circulation: corridors, stairs, the passage between reception and the treatment wing. These run very low, and frequently nothing at all is the right answer. A corridor is a conduit rather than a destination. It is already carrying treatment-room air, wet-zone air, laundry air if you have not fixed that, and whatever the reception is producing, all of it moving through as doors open and close. Adding a working level of fragrance to a space that is already receiving four other people's air is how you produce the muddled effect that guests describe as a spa smelling of too many things. It is also worth saying that corridors are the most over-served spaces in most spas, because they are the spaces owners walk most often and therefore the spaces where they most often think something is missing. Nobody stops in a corridor. Type four is destination: reception, the lounge, the retail area, the relaxation space where guests actually sit. These carry the working level, which is the level everything else is measured against. Reception is where the register should be legible, because it is the only space in the building where a guest is alert, upright, and forming a first impression, and it is also the space with the most air exchange, the most door movement and the most competing material - the front door, the street, tea, the retail shelf. Once you have your four types, three rules finish the plan. First, one register throughout the building, varied only by level. A guest crosses several thresholds in a visit, and a change of register at a threshold reads as a discontinuity, or more precisely as a fault, while a change of level reads as the building quietening as you go deeper into it. That gradient - working level at reception, very low in circulation, lowest in treatment rooms and wet-adjacent spaces - is the entire design. Second, treatment rooms are set from the bed, not from the doorway. This is the most commonly skipped step in the whole exercise and the one that produces the most complaints. A guest spends an hour with their face a few inches from a cradle, in still air, breathing downwards. Nobody else in your building is in that posture. A level that is barely perceptible standing in the doorway can be considerable lying face down, so lie on the bed for two minutes and set it from there. Third, judge everything by walking from the street inwards at the busiest hour, with somebody who has not been inside. Everybody who works in a spa adapts to a steady background within about an hour of arriving and stops perceiving it entirely, which is why staff sincerely report that a scheme has stopped working when it has not, and why they cannot be your measuring instrument. The first few seconds in each space is what a guest gets, and it is the only reliable reading available to you. Two seasonal notes. In monsoon months the dry side of the building stops being dry: outside air is humid, ventilation brings it in, and the difference between your wet zone and your dry zone narrows until the whole building behaves like the wet side. Everything comes down, and goes back up when the air dries. Write the dates in the same document as the settings. And in a coastal city the reception is receiving whatever the weather is doing every time the front door opens, so it is the most variable space in the building rather than the most stable one. On registers, the dry end of the range suits a building with a wet zone in it, because humidity amplifies exactly the quality that makes sweet and rich directions tiring over long exposure. Quiet Luxury, with white tea, bergamot and cedar, is the safest general answer and works across all four zone types. White Tea Serenity, with white tea, aloe and cedar, is the softest we make and is the right choice where treatment rooms and wet-adjacent spaces dominate. Forest Suite, with cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves, is dry and structural and suits a spa built from stone and warm wood. Tea Garden, with jasmine, green tea and white tea, and Warm Welcome, with citrus, floral and sandalwood, are arrival registers. Old-World Glamour, with amber, violet and woods, belongs in a dry warm reception at a low level and should be kept off the wet side. Lobby Bar, with citrus, pepper and amber, suits large circulation. All seven are Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml. On hardware, count zones rather than square feet. The Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank suits a substantial reception, the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 a compact reception or a changing area, the Boond at Rs 799 a treatment room, and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 a large open reception or lounge, waterless with no tank at all, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control. One machine serves one zone and never two, because it cannot reach past a closed door. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage them. Reeds at Rs 749 to Rs 849 suit rooms behind doors and provide a steady low baseline, with three to four months from a bottle and refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. Back-of-house wet and utility areas, laundry rooms, linen stores and staff areas get nothing. Anybody who works in a treatment room should have a physical off switch and never have to justify using it. We make no therapeutic, medical or wellness claims of any kind. The registers are SOSA's own interpretations and we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.

Why this works
How to draw the zones
1 Walk the plan and mark every door that genuinely closes 2 Each enclosure that results is one zone 3 Sort them into wet, wet-adjacent, circulation and destination 4 One register throughout, four different levels
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
The method, in twenty minutes
Walk the plan and mark the doors that close
A door propped open all day is not a door, it is an opening, and the spaces either side are one zone. The enclosures you finish with are your zones, and there are usually more than expected.
Tip: Air does not read room names.
02
Four types, not two
Wet, wet-adjacent, circulation, destination
Wet gets nothing. Wet-adjacent runs at the lowest working level permanently, since it is a humid room all year. Circulation runs very low or nothing. Destinations carry the working level.
03
One register, four levels
And treatment rooms set from the bed
A change of level reads as the building quietening. A change of register reads as a fault. And a level that is barely perceptible from the doorway can be considerable lying face down.
Tip: Nobody else in the building is in that posture.
The SOSA principle
A door propped open all day is not a door.
It is an opening, and both sides are one zone.

A zone is defined by a door, not by a function

Most spa zoning plans do not work because they are drawn by room name, and air does not read room names. The governing fact is that a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a shut door, so zone boundaries sit where the doors are rather than where the function changes. The method takes twenty minutes: walk the building with the plan and a pen, mark every door that genuinely closes and stays closed in normal operation, and ignore doors propped open all day, since those are openings and both sides are one zone. The enclosures you finish with are your zones, and you will usually find more than you expected, along with two spaces you thought were one and two you thought were separate. Then sort them into four types, because a spa has four where most buildings have two. Wet spaces - steam rooms, saunas, shower interiors - get nothing, permanently: heavily ventilated wet air will not hold a register, and equipment does not belong near heat and water. Anything aromatic used inside a steam context belongs to your operator and equipment supplier; our ambient fragrance is for ordinary room air only, never for skin, massage oil, masks, facial or steam preparations. Wet-adjacent spaces - changing area, the corridor past the wet zone, a treatment room with its own shower - carry the house register at the lowest working level, permanently rather than seasonally, since they run in a heavier medium all year and receive wet air at every door opening. Circulation runs very low or nothing, because a corridor is a conduit already carrying treatment-room air, wet-zone air and reception air, and corridors are the most over-served spaces in most spas since owners walk them most. Destinations - reception, lounge, retail - carry the working level, and reception is where the register should be legible because it is the only space where a guest is alert, upright and forming a first impression. Three rules finish it: one register throughout varied only by level, since a change of level reads as the building quietening while a change of register reads as a fault; treatment rooms set lying on the bed rather than from the doorway; and judgement by walking from the street inwards with a nose that has not been inside, since everybody who works there has adapted within an hour. Everything comes down in monsoon when the two climates converge. Dry registers suit a building with a wet zone: Quiet Luxury, White Tea Serenity, Forest Suite. Count zones rather than square feet - SOSA Boond Rs 799 for a treatment room, SOSA Sukoon Rs 1,799 for a compact reception, SOSA Megh Rs 3,499 for a substantial one, SOSA Vaayu Rs 11,999 for a large open lounge with coverage to 1,000 m² and timer control, reeds from Rs 749 behind doors. From Rs 299 for 15ml. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards. Volume pricing is quoted on WhatsApp.

The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Here is the full business range by per-unit band.

Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
