It is the most common question on the SOSA WhatsApp line, and the answer is almost always smaller than the asker fears: how many machines does this office actually need? The method fits on an index card - count zones, compute volumes, match machines - and the worked examples below cover most Indian offices: the 10-seat startup room, the single open floor, the floor with cabins, the multi-floor headquarters. Bring your floor plan; the math brings the number.
Quick answers — read this first
How many diffusers does an office need? One machine per zone, where a zone is any space separated by walls and closed doors - because scent does not pass a closed door, and open areas within reach of one machine's throw count as a single zone. Worked quickly: a 10-seat office is one zone - one Sukoon (Rs 1,799) or one Vaayu; a single open floor to roughly 3,500 sq ft is one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999, ~1000 cubic metres); a floor with client-facing cabins is one Vaayu plus one Sukoon per closed room that matters; and past roughly 8,000 sq ft you stop counting machines and move to HVAC - the Aangan (Rs 25,999) to 10,000 sq ft, the Meenar (Rs 38,500) to 18,000 sq ft.

How do I calculate diffuser coverage for my office? Volume, not floor area: multiply floor area by ceiling height to get cubic metres, then compare against the machine's rated coverage. Example: a 3,200 sq ft open floor is about 300 square metres; at a typical 3-metre office ceiling that is roughly 900 cubic metres - inside one SOSA Vaayu's ~1000 cubic metre rating. Two honest adjustments: partitions, corridors and L-shaped layouts break line-of-throw, so treat awkward wings as separate zones even if the raw volume fits; and heavy AC extraction or frequently open doors bleed scent, so a space near a machine's limit is better served by placement (entrance-forward, with the AC's circulation) than by turning the dose up - overdosing near desks is never the fix.

Does every meeting room and cabin need its own diffuser? No - only the closed rooms where impressions are made. A closed door stops scent, so the open floor's machine does nothing for a shut meeting room; but that only matters in rooms where clients, candidates or executives spend real time. The practical rule: one Sukoon (Rs 1,799) per client-facing meeting room and boardroom, a reed diffuser (from Rs 749) for executive cabins, and nothing for store rooms, server rooms (keep fragrance equipment out entirely) and internal huddle rooms that never host outsiders. Cafeterias take no signature during meal hours - ventilation owns that zone - and washrooms keep their own discreet functional freshening, never the brand register.
The short answer
Short answer: Count zones, not square feet: one machine per walled-and-doored zone. A 10-seat office = one Sukoon (Rs 1,799); one open floor to ~3,500 sq ft = one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999, ~1000 cubic metres = area x ceiling height); floor + cabins = Vaayu + one Sukoon (Rs 1,799) per closed client room; past 8,000 sq ft = HVAC, Aangan Rs 25,999 or Meenar Rs 38,500 to 18,000 sq ft. An office hosts two audiences at once: the client who judges your company in one visit, and the team that lives there eight hours a day. Office scent marketing serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly across reception, floor and meeting rooms, running on a schedule no admin has to remember. Visitors experience it as "this company has itself together" - and the team gets a workplace that smells composed from standup to sign-off.
Straight answer
What is the sizing method - and what does it say for a real 10-seat office, a floor, a floor with cabins, and an HQ?
The method, then the numbers. Step 1: count zones. A zone is any space bounded by walls and a closed door - scent does not pass a shut door - plus any open wing whose shape breaks a machine's line of throw. Step 2: compute volume. Floor area times ceiling height; at typical 3m office ceilings, ~1000m³ is roughly 3,500 sq ft. Step 3: match machines. Now the worked examples. A 10-seat office (~800 sq ft, one room): one zone, ~220m³ - one Sukoon (₹1,799) entrance-forward, done. One open floor (3,200 sq ft): ~900m³ - one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, ~1000m³), placed entrance-forward so reception gets the clearest expression. Floor plus cabins (3,500 sq ft floor, boardroom, two client cabins): one Vaayu for the floor + one Sukoon in the boardroom + reeds or Sukoons in the client cabins - roughly ₹17,000-18,000 in hardware for a fully zoned office. HQ, 14,000 sq ft across two floors: stop counting machines - one Meenar HVAC system (₹38,500) through the air handling, with the Aangan (₹25,999) the answer at 8,000-10,000 sq ft. Everywhere, the same two footnotes: skip the server room and the meal-hour cafeteria, and remember scent finishes clean ventilated air - it never masks a source problem. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your floor plan and we will run this math for you. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: one machine per closed zone - 10 seats = one Sukoon (₹1,799); a floor to ~3,500 sq ft = one Vaayu (₹11,999); add a Sukoon per client room; past 8,000 sq ft go HVAC from ₹25,999. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

The sizing method, worked out

Zones first, volumes second, machines last - and a clear line where you stop counting and call the HVAC team.

Why this works
The index-card method - office sizing in four moves
1Count zones: every walled, doored space is its own zone - doors stop scent2Compute volume: area x ceiling height; ~1000 cubic metres is ~3,500 sq ft3Match machines: Sukoon (Rs 1,799) per room, one Vaayu (Rs 11,999) per floor zone4Past 8,000 sq ft, stop counting - one HVAC system from Rs 25,999 takes over
The office standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Small-space systems from ₹1,799.
1
The method
Zones first, square feet second
Sizing goes wrong when it starts from area alone, because scent obeys walls, doors and air movement before it obeys square footage. So start with the floor plan and draw zone boundaries: every space behind a closable door is its own zone (the boardroom's air and the floor's air never mix in working hours), and any open area whose shape breaks line-of-throw - an L-wing past the lift core, a corridor pinch - is honestly a second zone even without a door. Then, within each zone, compute volume: floor area times ceiling height. This is where offices differ from homes: a 3m commercial ceiling means a 3,200 sq ft floor is roughly 900m³ - conveniently, just inside one Vaayu's ~1000m³ rating - while a double-height reception can double its volume without adding a square foot. Finally, subtract the non-zones: server rooms take no fragrance equipment at all, cafeterias belong to ventilation during meal hours, and washrooms keep their own discreet freshening outside the signature. What remains is your machine count - and it is usually smaller than feared.
Tip: scent obeys doors, throw-lines and ceilings - map those three and the machine count falls out by itself.
2
The worked examples
Four real offices, sized end to end
The 10-seat office - 800 sq ft, one open room with a door to the corridor: one zone, ~220m³. One Sukoon (₹1,799) with the Hotel Collection (from ₹299), entrance-forward, whisper-dosed for the team sitting metres away. Total hardware: ₹1,799. The single open floor - 3,200 sq ft, reception open to the workspace: one zone, ~900m³. One Vaayu (₹11,999) placed entrance-forward, so the walk-in verdict gets the clearest breath and the level tapers gently over the desks. The floor with cabins - 3,500 sq ft floor, one boardroom, two client cabins: four zones. One Vaayu for the floor, one Sukoon for the boardroom, and a Sukoon or reed per client cabin - about ₹17,000-18,000 of hardware to scent the office completely, every zone on the same register. The 14,000 sq ft HQ - two floors, lobby, boardrooms: machine-counting stops here; one Meenar (₹38,500) through the air-handling carries one signature to every duct outlet, with standalone units only for any cabin the ducts treat unevenly.
3
The threshold
When to stop counting machines - the HVAC line
Somewhere past three or four standalone machines, the arithmetic quietly flips. Each additional unit is another reservoir on the refill calendar, another timer to audit, another chance for one zone to drift louder or die silently - and by roughly 8,000 sq ft, an office attempting evenness with scattered machines is running a small fleet where it should be running architecture. The Aangan (₹25,999) injects nebulised fragrance into the air-handling of an 8,000-10,000 sq ft office; the Meenar (₹38,500) scales to 12,000-18,000 sq ft - and both make the duct network do the distribution, so every outlet on the system carries the same whisper without a machine in sight. The judgment call for facility managers: if your office is above the threshold and the AHU is accessible, HVAC scenting is the cleaner decade-long answer; if you are below it, or the air-handling is landlord territory you cannot touch, the standalone count from the method stands - and either way, sending the floor plan to +91 96192 18531 settles it in minutes, free.
Tip: more than a handful of machines is a symptom - the building's own ducts are the larger machine you already own.
The SOSA principle
The number is almost never the fear: most offices are one to four machines, and big offices are one HVAC system - the math is zones, not square feet.
A door is a boundary, a throw-line is a boundary, a ceiling multiplies volume - map those and the machine count writes itself.

Honest notes for businesses: scent marketing's effects on perceived quality, visit experience and recall are real but moderate - fragrance compounds a well-run office and rescues nothing; ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning must be right first, and no fragrance fixes poor indoor air quality. The scent is calibrated for the people most exposed to it - your employees on eight-hour days - which is why whisper dosing and locked settings are the standard, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. Versailles
A note from Sonal

Companies spend real money on how the office looks - the reception wall, the brand colours, the ergonomic chairs - and then leave the air to chance: the lunch smells, the carpet, the phenyl from the morning mopping. Yet the air is the one thing every client, every candidate and every employee takes in with the very first breath. The place where your team spends most of its waking hours deserves better air than that.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian offices is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. The machines matter (throw, coverage, scheduling), but the strategy matters more, and it is in every guide we publish. If you want it applied to your specific office, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - I read the office descriptions myself.

Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Our floor is 5,000 sq ft - one Vaayu or two?
Run the volume first: 5,000 sq ft at a 3-metre ceiling is roughly 1,400 cubic metres - past one Vaayu's ~1000 cubic metre rating, so a single unit will read clearly near its placement and thin at the far end. Two honest options. If the floor's shape splits naturally - a lift core, a corridor pinch, reception versus workspace - place two machines, one per natural half, each at whisper, with mirrored schedules so the halves never drift apart. If the floor is one uninterrupted hall, two Vaayus still work (opposite thirds, throws converging), but check one thing before buying: at 5,000 sq ft you may be within reach of the HVAC conversation sooner than you think, and if an expansion to the adjacent floor is on the roadmap, the Aangan (Rs 25,999) may be the cleaner two-year answer than a growing fleet. Never solve a coverage gap by turning one machine up - the desks near it pay for the desks far away.
Do high ceilings change the machine count?
They change the volume, which is what the machines are rated on - so yes, materially. A double-height reception at 6 metres holds twice the air of the same footprint at 3 metres: a lobby that looks like a Sukoon job by floor area can be a Vaayu job by volume. The working rule: always compute area times actual ceiling height, and treat anything above 4 metres as a flag for entrance-forward placement of a stronger machine rather than a louder setting on a weaker one - scent rises and dilutes in tall spaces, and the composed breath must happen at human height, in the first three metres from the door. Atriums and stairwells connecting floors also behave as chimneys, moving scent upward between levels; in multi-floor offices that is one more argument for the HVAC tier, where each zone's supply is controlled at the duct rather than fought at floor level.
Should we buy all the machines at once or roll out zone by zone?
Zone by zone is the honest default, in impact order: the entrance zone first (every client, candidate and employee crosses it daily - one Vaayu or Sukoon there changes the office's first breath immediately), client-facing meeting rooms second, the general floor third, and executive cabins last. A staged rollout spreads the spend, lets the team acclimatise gently, and - most usefully - turns your first zone into the audition: a week of the register at reception, staff verdicts at end of shift, before the office commits everywhere. Two disciplines keep a staged rollout coherent: fix the register on day one (every later zone joins the same signature - the walk from a scented reception into an unscented floor is a gradient, but into a differently-scented floor is a collision), and put every machine on mirrored schedules as it joins, so the office never has zones running different hours. Most offices complete the map inside two quarters.
How does the count change our refill budget?
Linearly, and modestly - refills scale with machines and duty hours, and at whisper calibration the numbers stay small. The 10-seat office runs on Hotel Collection bottles from Rs 299 with refills from Rs 999; the single-floor Vaayu office consumes nebulising oil at a rate that lands the per-employee cost per working day in paise; the floor-plus-cabins office adds a water-based line for the ultrasonic rooms - note that the two liquid formats differ, so the supplies shelf carries both, labelled. Two budgeting habits worth adopting from day one: put refills on a quarterly calendar owned by a named person (machines die of empty reservoirs, not faults - a silent machine in week three of a client season is the whole programme failing quietly), and review consumption after the first quarter, because the whisper-calibrated real number is usually below the plan and the budget can be trued down, not up.
Our count says three machines but the budget says one - where do we start?
Start where every visitor and employee starts: the entrance zone. One machine placed entrance-forward - a Vaayu (Rs 11,999) if the reception opens into the floor, a Sukoon (Rs 1,799) if reception is its own room - buys the walk-in verdict for clients, the daily arrival moment for staff, and the office's first composed impression for a fraction of the full map. Run it for a quarter as both a working system and a live audition of the register, then extend to the boardroom next quarter and the floor after: the signature stays constant throughout, so the asset compounds from day one even while coverage grows. What to resist is the tempting middle path of one machine turned up loud to reach zones it cannot: overdosing the near zone to leak into the far one gives the receptionist a headache and the far desks nothing. Partial coverage at correct calibration always beats full coverage at the wrong one - extend the map as budget allows, zone by honest zone.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA commercial range; the scent-marketing strategy advice applies to any workplace's systems.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, better reported mood and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation or indoor air quality. Claims that specific fragrances reliably raise measured productivity are weaker than their popular retellings - the replicated workplace findings concern comfort, mood and perception, and this guide claims no more. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Employee exposure is the design constraint: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice. SOSA systems: Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,799) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively.
