Why can square footage not answer it? Because a machine cannot cross a closed door. Two homes of identical area can have four closed rooms or fourteen, which changes the specification entirely.
What is a typical answer? One machine plus eight to twelve reeds, with four or five spaces excluded - kitchen, children's rooms, terraces, staff and utility areas.
The number that answers this is not five thousand
This is the most frequently asked question in the category and the area is not the thing that answers it, so it is worth working through a real example rather than offering a number that will be wrong half the time. The governing fact is that a machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door. That means the specification depends on how an area is divided rather than on how much of it there is, and two homes of identical square footage can need very different things. Here is a typical 5,000 square foot four-bedroom home, worked through. Start by marking every door that is normally kept closed. In this house that is four bedrooms, four ensuite bathrooms, a powder room, a study, a dressing room, a formal sitting room, the kitchen, a utility room and a store. What remains connected is the entrance, the living room, the dining room, a family lounge and the circulation between them - a single volume of perhaps 1,800 square feet. That connected volume takes one machine. The Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers it comfortably - waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control, which is what makes a low continuous setting practical - though a Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank would also serve a volume of that size. One machine, not four, because the whole area is connected air. Then the closed rooms, each of which is its own zone. Four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a powder room, a study, a dressing room and the formal sitting room: twelve reeds, at Rs 749 to Rs 849 each, three to four months a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. None of them needs power, scheduling or attention. Then the exclusions, which in this house are a genuinely large amount of square footage receiving nothing at all. The kitchen is never scented, at any time, because cooking smell is aerosolised oil and the answer is extraction. If one of the four bedrooms is a child's room, it gets no fragrance. The covered terrace - and a 5,000 square foot home almost always has one - cannot hold fragrance because the air is not enclosed, so nothing installed there will work regardless of size, and it should be marked excluded rather than left open as a question. Staff quarters get nothing. Utility and stores get nothing. So the answer for this house is one machine and about twelve reeds, with several hundred square feet deliberately excluded. Now change the plan without changing the area. A 5,000 square foot penthouse with a very open layout, two large bedroom suites and a 1,200 square foot terrace might have one enormous connected volume, two bedrooms, three bathrooms and a study - one machine and five reeds, with the terrace excluded. Same area, less than half the specification. That is why we ask for a plan rather than a square footage, and why the honest answer to a client who asks for a number over the phone is a question about doors. It is also why the correct response to a client who says the fragrance does not reach the back bedroom is almost never a larger machine. A machine cannot cross a closed door however large it is, and the answer is a reed in that room, at Rs 749 to Rs 849, which costs less than a fraction of an upgrade and actually works. Two refinements that apply at this size. Multiple floors introduce vertical movement, because warm air rises through a stairwell, so a source at the bottom of a stair does more than one at the top and an upper landing often needs less than the plan suggests. And air conditioning changes the zone map: a ducted system joins rooms into one body of moving air whenever it runs, which means fragrance travels further than the doors suggest and the setting should be lower, while split units keep each room an island even with doors open, which means the reed count goes up rather than down. Check which one the house has before finalising anything. On register, one throughout the home, varied by intensity rather than by scent, because two registers meet in doorways many times a day and the collision reads as something being wrong. Quiet Luxury, with white tea, bergamot and cedar, is the usual default, Forest Suite where timber and stone lead, and White Tea Serenity for bedrooms - all from the seven Hotel Collection registers at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, which are SOSA's own interpretations, since we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Intensity follows exposure: the entrance highest because nobody stays in it, the living volume moderate and set for the family rather than the visitor, bedrooms lowest of all. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection only at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage them. And the running cost, which clients ask about second: reeds are consumed by time rather than by use, so twelve reeds run at roughly Rs 200 to Rs 280 per room per month each regardless of how often each room is used - a formal room opened twice a month costs the same as a bedroom used nightly. Machine consumption depends on the run schedule, and we do not publish a millilitres-per-month figure because any number we printed would describe our assumptions rather than a particular home; we quote against the actual setup instead. Anybody who shares the home and cannot leave it gets a low neutral register and a physical off switch, not an app-only one. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.
Converting an area question into a door question
The area is not what answers this, so it is worth working an example. A machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so the specification depends on how an area is divided rather than how much there is. Take a typical 5,000 square foot four-bedroom home. Mark the normally closed doors: four bedrooms, four ensuites, a powder room, a study, a dressing room, a formal sitting room, the kitchen, utility and store. What remains connected - entrance, living, dining, family lounge and circulation, perhaps 1,800 square feet - is one volume taking one machine: the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, waterless with coverage to 1,000 m² and app and timer control, or the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank. Then twelve closed rooms take twelve reeds at Rs 749 to Rs 849, three to four months a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, none needing power. Then the exclusions, which here are a large amount of square footage getting nothing: the kitchen at any time, since cooking smell is aerosolised oil and extraction is the answer; a child's room; the covered terrace, which cannot hold fragrance because the air is not enclosed; staff quarters, utility and stores. So: one machine and about twelve reeds. Now change the plan without changing the area - a 5,000 square foot penthouse with one enormous open volume, two bedroom suites, three bathrooms, a study and a 1,200 square foot terrace is one machine and five reeds. Same area, less than half the specification, which is why we ask for a plan and why the answer to a client whose fragrance does not reach the back bedroom is almost never a larger machine but a reed in that room. Two refinements at this size: warm air rises through a stairwell, so a source at the bottom of a stair does more than one at the top and an upper landing often needs less; and air conditioning changes the zone map, since ducted systems join rooms into one air volume and call for a lower setting while split units keep rooms as islands and push the reed count up. One register throughout, varied by intensity - Quiet Luxury as the default, Forest Suite where timber leads, White Tea Serenity in bedrooms - from the seven registers at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml. Reeds are consumed by time rather than use, roughly Rs 200 to Rs 280 per room per month regardless of how often a room is used; machine consumption we quote against the actual setup rather than printing assumptions. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards. Volume pricing is quoted on WhatsApp.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
