The cheap honest version: Sukoon in the living area plus a Boond at ₹899 in the bedroom — ₹2,798 for both rooms.
2. Two, if the door is shut at night — which for most people it is. Anyone running an AC sleeps behind a closed door. That bedroom is a sealed air space for eight or nine hours, and it will smell of exactly nothing no matter how strong the living-room machine is.
3. The second machine does not have to be another Sukoon. A typical 1BHK bedroom is 110–150 sq ft, which is inside the Boond's 150 sq ft rating at ₹899. That makes the honest two-room total ₹2,798 rather than ₹3,798.
4. Do not buy a Megh to cover more of the flat. The Megh (₹3,499) has a six-litre tank and up to 100 hours of runtime, but it is rated to 215 sq ft — less than a Sukoon. It is a runtime and dry-air machine for one room, never a coverage upgrade.
5. Three machines is one too many. People add a third for the kitchen or the entrance. Neither is a separate air space in a 1BHK — the kitchen is open to the living room and the entrance is two steps from it. You would be paying to scent the same air twice.

Why the door decides this, not the square footage
Here is the thing nobody tells you when you move from a studio into a 1BHK: your flat has two floor plans. There is the daytime plan, where the door is hooked open and the whole place behaves like one 550 sq ft volume. And there is the night plan, where the door is shut, the AC is on, and you have two sealed rooms. Both plans are real, and they need different numbers of machines. The reason "how many diffusers for a 1BHK" has no single answer online is that everyone answering it is picturing a different one of those two plans.
So work out which one you live in, and be honest about it. For a week, notice the door — not as you walk through it, but at eleven at night, at three in the afternoon, when you leave for work. If it is shut more than half of those moments, you have a two-room flat and you should buy for two rooms. There is a faster version too: run a diffuser in the living area for an hour with the door in its usual position, then walk into the bedroom cold from outside. If the bedroom smells of nothing, that is your answer, and no amount of extra output will change it. For most people the AC settles the question on its own — if you sleep with the compressor running, the door is shut, and the bedroom is a room your living-room machine will never reach.

Where they go, how many drops, and when to run them
Start with the living-area machine, and keep it away from the bedroom door. This is the specific 1BHK mistake: the diffuser gets put on the shelf nearest the bedroom in the hope that some of it drifts through. What actually happens is that you scent a doorway heavily and the rest of the living room barely at all, and on the nights the door is shut you have spent the machine's entire output on a piece of plywood. Put it roughly at the centre of the living area, about a metre off the floor — a console, a TV unit, a bookshelf — and out of the direct line of the fan or the split AC.
The bedroom machine goes across the room from the bed, not on the nightstand. A diffuser eighteen inches from your face gives you a strong nose and a weak room, and a full tank sits above your phone. Put it on a dresser on the opposite wall and let the scent arrive at the bed already diluted. On drops: the general guidance for the Hotel Collection is three to six per tank, and in a 1BHK I would run four in the living area and two to three in the bedroom. The bedroom is smaller, you are lying still in it for eight hours, and a dose that reads as pleasant at eleven can read as heavy at three.
Then the schedule, which is where two machines quietly pay for themselves. Run the living-area machine in the evening — an hour before people arrive, or from when you get home until you eat — and let the bedroom machine run on the 2H timer while you are getting ready for bed, so the room is right when you get into it. Do not run both flat out at once; in a flat this size they meet at the doorway and read as one muddled smell. Use filtered water in hard-water cities, rinse the tank when you change scents, and never put raw essential or carrier oils into either machine — they are too thick to atomise and will foul the plate.

The 1BHK is where I have the most arguments, and they are always about the same door. Someone tells me their flat is 550 square feet, I ask whether the bedroom door is shut at night, and there is a pause. The pause is the answer.
I understand why people want the single-machine version to be true — it is cheaper and tidier. But a diffuser in a room you are not in is a machine scenting your furniture. If the door is shut for the eight hours you sleep, the living-room Sukoon is running for nobody while the room you are breathing in has nothing in it.
So: settle the door first, buy one machine per room you keep separate, and let the second machine be a Boond if the bedroom is small. ₹2,798 for a properly scented flat is an honest number, and I would rather you spent that than ₹3,798 out of habit.
