Owners tend to treat air conditioning as something fragrance has to survive. It is the opposite. Central AC is the only thing in your showroom that moves air deliberately, which makes it the distribution system you already own - and the single biggest factor in whether one setting reads the same at the door and at the back wall.
Quick answers — read this first
How does central AC affect fragrance distribution in a shoe showroom? It determines it. Central air conditioning moves the room's air in a loop: supply grilles push conditioned air out, returns draw it back, and everything in that air travels with it. A source placed in or near the supply path is carried across the floor by air that is already going where your customers are. A source placed near a return has much of what it releases pulled out of the room before it gets anywhere. That is why the same setting can read strong within a metre of the machine and thin at the back wall - and why moving it beats turning it up.
How do I find my supply and return grilles? Hold a light tissue or a thin strip of paper up to each grille while the system is running. A supply grille blows the tissue away from it; a return draws it in and holds it. In most Indian retail fit-outs the supply is a ceiling cassette with a four-way throw, or a linear slot along the ceiling, and the return is a larger grille often set back near the plant, a corridor or a service door. Mark both on your plan before you decide where anything goes. It takes five minutes and it changes more than any product choice will.
Should I turn the intensity up if the back of the store reads thin? No. A thin back wall is almost always a distribution problem rather than a strength problem, and raising intensity to solve it gives you a loud store near the machine and the same thin back wall. Check three things first: whether the source is sitting near a return, whether any supply grille actually reaches that end of the floor, and whether tall fixtures or a partition are blocking the throw. Move the source into the supply path, or mount it into the HVAC, and re-read the room before you touch the dial.
The short answer
Short answer: Central AC is the distribution system a showroom already owns. Supply grilles push air out and returns draw it back, and fragrance travels with that air. A source near a return loses most of what it releases before it crosses the floor, which is why a setting reads strong at the machine and thin at the back. Placement in the supply path beats raising the intensity, every time.
The pick: One SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999), which is wall or HVAC mountable so it can sit in the supply path rather than in a decorative corner. If you are using reeds, keep them clear of both supply and return grilles - a Mountain Breeze (₹849) beside a grille is simply wasted.
Next step: Mark your supply and return grilles on a plan, note whether the system recirculates or draws a lot of fresh air, and send it over - ask for a store scenting plan.
Central AC is not an obstacle to work around. It is the only thing in the showroom moving air on purpose, which makes it the distribution system you have already paid for.
How does central air conditioning change fragrance distribution across a showroom?
It decides almost all of it, and the first useful move is to stop thinking of air conditioning as something fragrance has to survive. It is the only thing in your showroom moving air on purpose, which makes it the distribution system you have already paid for. The mechanics are simple enough to work with. Conditioned air leaves through supply grilles - usually ceiling cassettes with a four-way throw, or linear slots - travels across the space, and is drawn back through one or more return grilles, which are typically larger and often set back near the plant, a corridor or a service door. Between them runs a loop, and most systems recirculate the great majority of that air with only a modest fresh-air makeup. Anything released into the loop travels with it. That single fact explains the complaint this page exists for. If the reading is strong within a metre of your machine and thin at the back wall, the usual cause is not that the machine is too weak; it is that the source is sitting near a return, so a large share of what it releases is drawn out of the room before it has crossed the floor. The correction is not the dial. It is to move the source into the supply path - wall-mounted at height near a supply, or connected into the HVAC itself - so what it releases is carried by air already going where your customers are. Two other consequences are worth knowing. First, a system drawing a lot of outside-air makeup dilutes the room continuously, so an identical setting reads thinner there than in a heavily recirculating system; that is a reason to check the setting seasonally, not a reason to run high. Second, when the air conditioning is off the loop stops, and a showroom on a mild morning or in a shoulder season becomes a still room with a strong pocket near the source and very little elsewhere - which is why so many owners describe their scenting as inconsistent when what is inconsistent is the fan. Running the system in fan-only mode during trading hours is usually the fix, and it is free. Two placements to avoid outright: directly under a supply grille, where a reed is stripped bare and read as too weak; and anywhere near a return that sits close to the stockroom door, because that return is already pulling stockroom air across your floor and you would be adding a second thing to the same current. We make no claim that any SOSA product removes, neutralises, eliminates or absorbs an odour, or that it cleans, purifies, sanitises or disinfects air - it adds scent, and that is all it does. We make no claim that scent affects sales, conversion, footfall, browsing or what anybody buys. Ask for a store scenting plan with the grilles marked.
Supply distributes, return removes. Strong at the machine and thin at the back is a placement fault, and the dial is the wrong instrument for fixing it.
This is the reason the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is wall and HVAC mountable rather than only free-standing: it can be put into the supply path instead of a corner. 1000m³, waterless, adjustable intensity, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock, under 38dB and 5W.
There is no product on this page that fixes a placement problem, and that is the honest sizing note: a better position is worth more than a bigger machine. What the machine gives you here is the option of a position a bottle cannot take - wall-mounted at height beside a supply, or connected into the HVAC so the whole loop does the distributing. If your store has no mechanical air movement at all, that is the first thing to fix, before anything below.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated at 1000m³, wall-mountable at height or connected into the HVAC so the source sits in air that is already moving. Adjustable intensity, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock, under 38dB, 5W. ₹11,999. The mounting options are the point of it on an air-conditioned floor, not an accessory to it.
Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, ₹849 for 50ml. A reed is a point source with no air movement behind it, so a grille will either strip it or ignore it. Keep it well clear of both supply and return, at nose height on a stable surface - a badly placed reed reads as a weak reed, and owners replace the bottle when they should have moved it.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India.
Three things your air conditioning is already deciding, whether or not you have looked at it.
1
First, find the loop
Five minutes with a tissue tells you more than any specification sheet
Walk the showroom during trading with a light tissue or a thin strip of paper and hold it up to every grille in the ceiling. A supply blows it away; a return draws it in and holds it there. Mark each one on a plan, and mark the direction of throw on the supplies - four-way cassettes push along the ceiling and then down the walls, linear slots throw in one or two directions. Then hold the tissue at head height in the places customers actually stand: the entrance, the middle of the main run, the far corner, the trying bay. Wherever it hangs limp, air is not reaching, and no setting on any machine changes that. This drawing is the most useful document in the whole scenting decision and almost nobody makes it. It also explains readings you have probably already noticed and put down to the time of day.
Tip: do it twice - once with the system running and once with it off. The two maps are completely different rooms.
The SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 mounts on a wall or into the HVAC, which is what lets you use that map.
Strong at the machine, thin at the back - and why the dial makes it worse
This is the commonest distribution fault in an air-conditioned showroom and it has one usual cause: the source is sitting near a return. Air conditioning pulls continuously towards its returns, so a source in that current has a large share of what it releases drawn out of the room before it has travelled anywhere useful. The experience from the floor is a strong reading within a metre or two of the machine and almost nothing at the back wall - which reads exactly like a machine that is too weak, and is not. Raising the intensity in that situation is the worst available move: it makes the area near the source uncomfortable, gives your staff a difficult nine hours, and leaves the back wall exactly as thin as it was, because the problem was never strength. Move the source into the supply path first and re-read the room a day later. Only if the reading is still thin everywhere is intensity the right dial to touch.
Tip: if the machine is near the stockroom door, check whether a return sits there too - that current is already carrying stockroom air across your floor.
The same rule applies to a bottle: keep Mountain Breeze at ₹849 well clear of every grille.
A still showroom is a different room, and the setting no longer means the same thing
Distribution depends on the loop running, so anything that stops the loop changes the room. In much of India that means shoulder seasons and mild mornings, when the air conditioning is off or cycling infrequently: the floor becomes still, a pocket builds around the source, and the far end gets very little. Owners experience this as the fragrance being inconsistent, and then adjust the intensity, which makes the peak worse without helping the far end. The usual fix is not a product at all - it is running the system in fan-only mode during trading hours, which keeps the loop turning at almost no cost and is often already available on the controller. It also matters for judging level: set your intensity with the system running the way it runs on a busy Saturday, not on a quiet morning with everything off, and check it again when the season changes. A system drawing a lot of outside-air makeup dilutes the room continuously, so the same setting genuinely reads thinner in that store than in a heavily recirculating one.
Tip: ask your AC contractor whether fan-only is available on your controller. It is usually the cheapest improvement on this page.
Morning Freshness at ₹749 is the cool register for a sneaker-led floor, placed away from the grilles.
Nobody buys air conditioning to distribute fragrance, and yet in an air-conditioned showroom it is the only thing doing it. Work with the loop or work against it.
Supply distributes, return removes, and a source in the wrong current is a strong machine with nothing to show for it.
Put the source in moving air: The SOSA Vaayu mounts on a wall at height or into the HVAC. 1000m³, adjustable, timed, key-locked. ₹11,999.
Turning the intensity up to fix a thin back wall gives you an uncomfortable machine, nine difficult hours for your staff, and a back wall that is exactly as thin as it was.

Position first, dial second
Mounted where the loop can carry it, then set once and locked
A short list, because this page is mostly about position rather than product. The machine earns its place here through where it can be mounted; the reeds earn theirs by being kept away from the grilles that would waste them. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
No product on this list fixes a placement fault, and we would rather write that than sell a larger unit into a distribution problem. We make no claim that any SOSA product removes, neutralises, eliminates or absorbs an odour, or that it cleans, purifies, sanitises or disinfects air - it adds scent, and that is all it does. Fragrance works alongside ventilation, stock rotation and cleaning, never instead of them, and is never used to mask a smell that has a source - if a return is pulling stockroom air across your floor, that door is the job. We make no claim that scent affects sales, conversion, footfall, browsing or what anybody buys. If staff say it is too much, it is too much. Ask for a store scenting plan.

A note from Sonal
The complaint arrives in almost the same words every time: strong near the machine, nothing at the back. Owners assume they have under-bought. Nine times out of ten they have simply put the source in the wrong current, usually near a return grille, and the air conditioning is quietly taking most of what they paid for straight out of the room before it has crossed the floor.
So the first thing I ask for is not the square footage - it is a photograph of the ceiling. Cassettes, slots, where the big return sits. Five minutes with a tissue produces a better map of a showroom than any specification sheet, and it is the reason a Vaayu at ₹11,999 is wall and HVAC mountable rather than only free-standing. Put the source where the air is already going, and a middle setting does more than a high one ever did in the wrong place.
The limits, plainly. This is a brand and interior decision, and we make no medical, hygiene or therapeutic claim of any kind. We make no claim that any SOSA product removes, neutralises, eliminates or absorbs an odour, or that it cleans, purifies, sanitises or disinfects air - it adds scent, and that is all it does. It never masks a smell that has a source. We make no claim that scent affects sales, conversion, footfall, browsing or what anybody buys. Staff stand in the current all day and their judgement on level outranks mine. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
How does central AC affect fragrance distribution in a shoe showroom?
It determines it. Supply grilles push conditioned air out, returns draw it back, and anything released into that loop travels with it. A source in or near the supply path is carried across the floor; a source near a return has much of what it releases pulled out of the room before it travels. That is why one setting can read strong at the machine and thin at the back wall.
How do I tell a supply grille from a return?
Hold a light tissue up to each one while the system is running. A supply blows it away; a return draws it in and holds it. Mark both on a plan along with the direction of throw, then hold the tissue at head height where customers actually stand. Wherever it hangs limp, air is not reaching, and no setting on any machine will change that.
The back of my store reads thin. Should I raise the intensity?
No. That is nearly always a distribution fault rather than a strength one, and raising the level makes the area near the source uncomfortable while leaving the back wall exactly as thin. Check whether the source sits near a return, whether any supply reaches that end, and whether tall fixtures block the throw. Move the source into the supply path and re-read the room a day later before touching the dial.
Why does my showroom read differently when the AC is off?
Because the loop has stopped. With the system off the floor becomes still, a pocket builds around the source and the far end receives very little, which owners usually experience as inconsistency. Running the system in fan-only mode during trading hours keeps the air turning at almost no cost and is often already on the controller. Judge your level with the system running as it runs on a busy day.
Where should a machine be mounted in an air-conditioned showroom?
In the supply path: wall-mounted at height near a supply grille, or connected into the HVAC so the whole loop distributes for you. Avoid mounting near a return, avoid a decorative corner with no air movement, and avoid placing a reed directly under a supply, where it is stripped and then wrongly judged to be weak. Position is worth more here than any increase in rating.
On a sneaker-led floor: Morning Freshness - Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus - cool and dry, and kept off the grilles. ₹749.
Mark your supply and return grilles, note whether the system runs all day or cycles off in the shoulder season, and we will tell you where the source belongs. One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 mounts on a wall at height or into the HVAC so it sits in the supply path. Position beats intensity every time. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
