Why not decor? Because thirty other people are bringing decor, and every object has to find a place in a house that was bought for its space.
When should it be used? Not in the first few weeks. Paint, varnish and polish need airing, so the scenting starts once the house has stopped smelling of being built.
They bought space, and everybody is about to give them objects
Watch a villa housewarming and the pattern is unmistakable. The owners walk people through the house, and what they are actually showing is volume: the height of the living room, the way the dining runs into the garden, the landing at the top of the stairs, how much light the whole thing takes. Space is the purchase. It is what cost the money and it is what they are pleased about. And then the gifts come out, and almost all of them are objects. Brass, decor pieces, crockery sets, a large plant, framed art, a clock, glassware, something for the mandir. None of it is wrong and all of it is well meant, but collectively it is a delivery of things into a house whose selling point was room, and every single item now needs a place, a surface, a decision. The owners will find places for all of it, and about a third of it will end up somewhere that is not quite right for the next five years. That pattern is the opportunity, and it points at a category rather than a specific product: give something that fills the house without occupying it. Smell is the clearest example. It has no footprint, it needs no surface, it does not have to be matched to the furniture or the floor, and it is experienced everywhere rather than displayed in one spot. In a house bought for space, a gift that adds no object and still changes how every room feels is genuinely counter-cyclical - and in a pile of thirty presents it is the only one of its kind. Which product depends entirely on the size of the villa, and villas are the one property type where the machine is usually the right answer rather than an indulgence. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated for up to a thousand cubic metres, which the product states as about two thousand to three thousand square feet. Most villas are in that range or close to it, and villas also have the two features that make room products struggle: multiple floors linked by a stairwell that moves air continuously, and usually a double-height or tall living space where the cubic volume is much greater than the floor plan suggests. In that house, five reed diffusers produce five scented zones and a lot of unscented distance between them. One machine, placed well and scheduled, produces a consistent strength across the whole thing including the hallways and the landing, which is the difference between a house that smells deliberate and a house that smells of wherever you happen to be standing. What makes it work as a gift rather than as equipment is the detail. It ships with four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, so it runs the evening it is opened rather than after somebody has ordered a consumable. It is waterless, so there is no tank of water, no humidity added during a monsoon and no film on new furniture - which matters more in a new villa than anywhere, because everything in it is new. It runs at under thirty-eight decibels, quiet enough to disappear. The four hundred millilitre tank lasts weeks rather than days. It is controlled by a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, with one, four, eight and twenty-four hour run windows, day selection and adjustable intensity - so a villa can be scented for the hour before guests arrive, which for a house that will be shown to a great many people over the next six months is the feature that gets used most. And it is small, nine hundred grams, black or white, either lying flat on a shelf or mounted on a wall or an HVAC return. If the villa is smaller than about two thousand square feet - and some are, particularly older ones on compact plots - then reed diffusers are the honest gift and the money saved is not a downgrade. Morning Freshness is seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty, Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus. Garden Bloom and Evening Calm are seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine, British rose with night jasmine, and lavender with chamomile. Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew are eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine, Himalayan pine with sage and cedar, and Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla. For a villa specifically, the larger one hundred and thirty millilitre size belongs in the entrance and on the landing, because circulation space has more air moving through it than a bedroom does. Duo sets from one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight rupees let the ground floor and the first floor be different, which is a nice idea in a house with stairs. Two things to say when giving it, and one to avoid. Do say that the scenting starts in a few weeks rather than on the day: a new villa smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those want open windows and time rather than fragrance. Anything scented running into a freshly finished house produces a muddle and gets blamed for it. Do say what it covers in square feet, because in a house where every guest is being told the built-up area, a gift that was chosen against that number reads as attention. And do not choose where it goes: hand it over and let them decide, because in a house they have just spent two years planning, the placement of things is not a decision anybody else gets to make. Fragrance is a finishing touch, never a fix.

| Over ~2,000 sq ft · Vaayu ₹11,999 | Most villas. One machine covers the floors, the stairwell and the landing at one strength. |
| Smaller villa · reeds ₹749 to ₹1,349 | Honest rather than cheaper. Use the 130ml size in the entrance and on the landing. |
| Two floors · duo set ₹1,548 to ₹2,598 | Ground floor and first floor different, which suits a house with stairs. |
| Timing · a few weeks after moving in | Paint, varnish and polish need open windows. Give it now; start it later. |

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
