Founder Diaries · Corporate & Office Diwali Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 8 min read Updated September 2026
Ask most people what they are giving a male colleague for Diwali and you get an answer within three seconds. That speed is the problem. A three-second answer has not come from four years of sitting near somebody; it has come from a shop aisle you walked down in October. The fix is not a longer list of ideas. It is one question asked before the list.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the best Diwali gift for a male colleague? The same as for any colleague in the same situation. Hanging car perfume at ₹449 to ₹509 if he drives, a reed diffuser at ₹749 if he works from home, and the three-attar set at ₹1,055 where you know him outside work and want to give something worn.

Does the gift change because the colleague is a man? It should not. Commute, home setup, closeness and whether the item is worn on the body are the four things that decide it, and a colleague's gender predicts none of them. If your answer moves when nothing but the recipient does, the idea came from somewhere other than him.

What is a safe gift for a male colleague I do not know well? A car fragrance at ₹449, or a reed diffuser at ₹749. Both are used in private, neither implies anything about him, and both are still in use in February.
The short answer
Short answer: Before choosing, ask where the idea came from. If it came from a shop aisle, last year's gift, or your own taste, it is not about him. Choose from a fact instead - car perfume from ₹449 if he drives, reed diffuser from ₹749 if he works from home, attar trio at ₹1,055 if you know him well.
The pick: a SOSA fragrance gift - alcohol-free, useful past January, from ₹379 a head.
Bulk: send headcount, per-head budget and cities, and we will confirm what stock can actually fill.
Corporate Diwali gifting - at a glanceVolume - car perfumes & refills scale to hundreds of unitsProfessional - nothing worn on the body for a colleagueTiered - ₹379 to ₹3,999 across seniorityHonest - we flag what stock cannot fill
A corporate Diwali gift works when it is useful, appropriate to a professional relationship, and actually available in the quantity you need. SOSA's fragrance range runs from Rs 379 per head to Rs 3,999 for senior gifts, alcohol-free and handmade in India.
Straight answer
What should I actually give a male colleague this Diwali?
There is a question worth asking before the shopping question, and it is this: where did the idea in your head come from?

In practice there are only three sources. The first is a shop aisle, which sorts gifts by an old merchandising convention and knows nothing whatsoever about your colleague. The second is what you gave last year, or what somebody gave you. The third is what you would like yourself. All three feel like decisions. None of them is about the person.

Here is the worked case, and note that it is a different one from the version of this question aimed at a female colleague, because the situation is what changes, not the gender. Your colleague moved to a fully remote role in July. You have not seen his desk since March, you have never seen his car, and most of what you know about his life now arrives through a video window with a wall behind him. That single fact rules out the whole car category and points straight at the home: a reed diffuser at ₹749, or Garden Bloom at ₹799, sitting in the room he actually works in for nine hours a day.

Change that one fact and the answer moves with it. If he drives in four days a week, the car is the obvious room, and Jasmine at ₹449, Sandalwood at ₹479, or Oud and Vetiver at ₹509 all land. If you have known him for years outside the office and he has told you what he wears, an attar roll-on at ₹389 becomes appropriate, and the three-attar set at ₹1,055 is the version that still leaves the scent to him.

You will notice that list is the same list as in the post about a female colleague, in the same order, at the same prices. That is not laziness. That is the answer. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: check the provenance of your idea first, and if it came from an aisle rather than from him, start again from a fact you can name.
For a whole team that commutes, the honest starting point is a hanging car perfume at ₹449 - useful, gift-ready, and stocked in the thousands. For managers, a reed diffuser from ₹749.
from ₹449

Where your gift idea actually came from

Three places supply almost every office gift idea, and it is worth knowing which one supplied yours before you spend anything.

1
The aisle
A shop layout is not information about a person
Retail sorts gifts into bins because bins are how shops are navigated, not because the bins describe anybody. Walk the aisle, take the first plausible object, and you have outsourced the decision to a floor plan. The correction is small: name one fact about your colleague, then choose. He drives, so the car fragrance range from ₹449. He does not, so the reed diffusers from ₹749.
Tip: If you cannot name the fact the gift responds to, you have bought from a shelf.
2
Last year
Repeating a gift is repeating somebody else's guess
Copying last year's dry fruit box, or the gift a vendor sent you, feels safe because it has already survived once. It has not, though. Nobody told you it went unused. The honest test is the February one: is it still in use? A car perfume at ₹489 refilled from ₹399, or a 50ML reed diffuser at ₹799 running six to ten weeks, both clear it. A box of sweets does not.
3
Yourself
Your own taste is the most invisible source of all
Buying what you would want is the hardest one to catch, because it does not feel like a substitution at all. It is the source behind most worn-scent gifts, which is exactly why worn scent is the riskiest office category. If you want to give something worn without making your taste the subject, the three-attar set at ₹1,055 or a single 3ML at ₹379 as a trial is the honest route.
Tip: A worn scent you chose is a gift about you. A set he chooses from is a gift about him.
The SOSA principle
Ask where the gift idea came from before you ask whether it is any good. Most office gift ideas arrive from a shelf, not from a person.
The three-second answer is the tell. Four years of working alongside somebody does not compress into three seconds, but a shop aisle does.

Replacing the aisle with a fact

Swap the aisle for a fact, and the fact picks the format for you.

The SOSA gifting edit
One fact about him, one gift, at these prices
Option Who it suits, and what it costs
He drives in most days A Jasmine or Sandalwood hanging car perfume at ₹449 to ₹479, or Oud and Vetiver at ₹509, refillable from ₹399.
He works from home most of the week A Morning Freshness reed diffuser at ₹749 or Garden Bloom at ₹799 - the room he is in for nine hours.
You know him outside work A Mastani attar at ₹389 or Nawaab at ₹399. Only where you know what he already wears.
You cannot name a single fact The three-attar set at ₹1,055, or a car spray set of three from ₹699. When you have nothing, give him the choice.

The companion post, Gift for a female colleague, runs the same argument from a different worked case and arrives at the same range at the same prices, which is rather the point. If the honest answer is that you cannot name a single fact about him yet, When you don't know his taste is the post for that position. Otherwise the car fragrance range and the attar roll-ons are where most of these decisions land.

The SOSA corporate gift edit

Every SOSA gift is alcohol-free, long-lasting and ready to hand over, handmade in small batches in India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the edit by budget tier and by who the gift is for.

The SOSA corporate Diwali gift edit
Five tiers that cover a whole company - from a ₹379 attar to a ₹3,999 executive gift
Gift Best for Why it works at the office From
Attar roll-on 3ML Whole team · small budget Alcohol-free concentrated oil, four scents, gift-ready tin - the honest sub-₹400 option ₹379
Hanging car perfume Teams that commute · bulk Eight scents, thousands in stock, genuinely useful to anyone who drives ₹449
Car spray set of 3 Sales & field teams Three scents in one box - feels like a set, still under a thousand ₹699
Reed diffuser 50ML Managers · remote staff Flame-free, no plug, no water - works in a home office or a cabin ₹749
SOSA Safar Senior leadership Waterless car diffuser - the executive gift that is actually in stock ₹3,999

Two honest notes. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil; the Hotel Collection is a separate water-based fragrance for ultrasonic mist diffusers, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations - SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most corporate Diwali gifts fail for the same reason: they are chosen to be defensible rather than useful. A box of sweets nobody eats, dry fruits that go into a cupboard. The gift is not really for the employee - it is for the person signing it off.

The test I would apply is simple. Will this still be in use in February? A car fragrance in the car of someone who drives to work every day passes that test. So does a reed diffuser in a home office. A body-worn perfume chosen for someone you do not know well does not, because fragrance worn on skin is personal - choosing it for a colleague is a comment on how they smell, and most people quietly do not wear it.

Two honest things I would rather say than sell past. If your budget is genuinely under Rs 350 a head, fragrance is the wrong category - buy something else and come back next year. And if you need three hundred of something we hold ninety of, we will tell you, because a Diwali gift that arrives in December is worse than no gift at all. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Diwali gift for a male colleague?
Whatever suits his situation, which is the same test you would apply to any colleague. A hanging car perfume at ₹449 to ₹509 if he drives, a reed diffuser at ₹749 if he works from home, and the three-attar set at ₹1,055 where you know him outside work.
Should a male colleague's gift be different from a female colleague's?
No. Commute, home setup, closeness and whether the item is worn are what decide it, and none of those follows from gender. If you find your answer changing when nothing but the recipient changes, the idea came from a shop aisle rather than from the person.
Is a car perfume too small a gift for a colleague?
It is not, and it is among the most used things you can give somebody who drives. A hanging car perfume runs ₹449 to ₹509, a spray set of three from ₹699, and refills from ₹399. Cost is rarely what makes a colleague gift land or fail; usefulness is.
What should I give a colleague who works fully remotely?
Home fragrance, because the home office is where the whole day happens. A 50ML reed diffuser is ₹749 to ₹849 and a 130ML is ₹1,249 to ₹1,349. It needs no flame, no socket and no water, so it works in any home without instructions from you.
Can I give the same gift to everyone on the team?
Within a team that is usually the better call, because employees compare gifts and a visible difference in value causes more friction than it is worth. Car fragrances are the line with genuine stock depth for that, running to thousands of units per scent.
