What does bergamot smell like? Bright, fresh citrus with a soft bitterness and a hint of floral - cleaner and more refined than orange or lemon. It is the note that makes a room feel crisp, elegant and awake rather than sweet.
Which room suits a bergamot scent? A living room, entryway or study. Bergamot's fresh lift makes a space feel bright and welcoming, so it is lovely where you greet people or want a clear, awake atmosphere.
Why bergamot smells so expensive
Bergamot is a small, fragrant citrus, and it is one of the most-used top notes in fine perfumery for a reason. It is fresh like lemon but softer, with a faint bitterness and a whisper of floral that keeps it from smelling like a cleaning spray. That refinement is why it sits at the top of so many elegant fragrances - and why a hotel lobby scented with it feels crisp and considered rather than sweet.
In our Hotel Collection, bergamot leads Quiet Luxury - my interpretation of the style the Ritz-Carlton is known for. It opens bright, with white tea alongside the bergamot for a clean, tea-like freshness, then settles onto cedar so the whole thing has calm and backbone. It is the scent I reach for when I want a room to feel hushed and expensive without any heaviness.
Bergamot is the note that makes freshness feel elegant. It reads clean and awake, never sweet, which is exactly why luxury hotels build their lobby scents on it.
Using a bergamot scent at home
Bergamot's lift suits the rooms where you want brightness and welcome - an entryway, a living room, a study. I would run Quiet Luxury in a Sukoon in a bedroom-study or a Megh in a larger living space, on a gentle continuous mist so the fresh top keeps renewing through the day. Because citrus notes are bright but not the longest-lasting, that steady renewal is how you keep the bergamot present.

Quiet Luxury is my own interpretation of the scent style the Ritz-Carlton is associated with - it is inspired by, not the same as, the hotel's proprietary fragrance. SOSA is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Ritz-Carlton; the name only describes the style. What you get is a perfumer's take on that bright, bergamot-led calm."
Run it, as always, only with SOSA's water-based fragrance. Raw bergamot essential oil is thick and citrus oils can be harsh on an ultrasonic plate - our water-based Quiet Luxury is formulated to mist cleanly. A few drops per fill is all it takes.
The SOSA range
SOSA makes three cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers for different rooms, each arriving with three of our water-based Hotel Collection fragrances so you can scent from day one. Prices and headline specs below are live from the SOSA store. Whichever you choose, use only the SOSA water-based fragrance - raw essential or carrier oils can clog the misting plate.

Versailles
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine. Indian rooms are bone-dry from AC and winter, and most gadget diffusers are too small, too loud, or quit by midnight. So we made three: Boond (300ml, desk), Sukoon (500ml, bedroom, with a remote and mood light) and Megh (6L, whole-room), each shipping with three of our fragrances.
They are cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers - an ultrasonic plate turns water into a fine, cool mist with no heating element, so there is no boiling water or burn risk, and each has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.
One thing I say on every listing and will say here: use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are thick or solvent-heavy and can clog the misting plate and damage the unit. A few drops of our water-based fragrance in the tank mists cleanly and scents the whole room.
