Which variable matters most? Doors. A machine cannot cross a closed door, so the number of rooms shut at an ordinary hour decides both how many bottles a home needs and whether a machine is worth buying.
What should I tell SOSA instead of my square footage? How many bedrooms and bathrooms are behind closed doors, whether the living space is open or compartmented, and roughly what the ceiling height is.
Six variables, none of which is on the floor plan
Square footage is the number almost everybody offers when they ask us what they need, and it is the least useful number we receive. That is not because size is irrelevant - it is because size is a poor proxy for the six things that genuinely decide a setup, and any of those six can move the answer further than a thousand square feet would. Here they are, in order of how much they matter. One: doors. This is the largest by a wide margin, and it is entirely invisible on a floor plan. A machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door at any price or setting. So the number of rooms shut at an ordinary hour decides two things at once: how many passive sources a home needs, since each sealed room requires its own, and whether a machine is worth buying at all, since a compartmented home has no meaningful connected volume to serve. Two homes of 2,000 square feet, one with an open ground plane and one with rooms off a passage, need genuinely different setups - the first may take a machine and five bottles, the second takes seven bottles and no machine. Two: ceiling height. Floor area is not volume, and volume is what a machine actually serves. A room with a twelve foot ceiling holds roughly a third more air than the same floor area at nine feet. Tall rooms also stratify: warm fragranced air rises, so a disproportionate share ends up above head height in the part of the room nobody occupies, which means the level where people sit is lower than the average and raising the dose mostly fills a void. Three: layout shape. A broadly square open space distributes evenly from one central point. An L-shaped plan does not, because output falls away with distance and does not turn corners, so a single source leaves the far leg empty while a stronger one only thickens the pocket near it. A long narrow plan is the same problem stretched. Each of those needs a different number of points at the same square footage. Four: airflow. A home run with open windows and ceiling fans replaces its interior air many times an hour, so material is carried outside almost as fast as it is released and no level accumulates. A sealed, air-conditioned home holds what it is given. The same quantity of fragrance behaves completely differently in the two, and most homes swap between the states by season, which is why a setting that seems right in May can seem to have vanished in November. Five: textiles. Soft furnishings are the reservoir. Rugs, curtains, upholstery and cushions absorb fragrance and release it slowly over hours, and that slow release is what a steady background actually is - not air holding a level, but materials giving it back. A hard, minimal room in stone and glass stores nothing, so a dose rises and dissipates quickly and the room reads strong for twenty minutes and empty by the time guests arrive. Two identical rooms, one furnished and one minimal, behave nothing alike. Six: how the household actually lives. Is fragrance wanted daily, or for a handful of occasions a year? Is somebody home in the afternoon, or does the house sit empty until seven? Who will refill a tank, honestly? Is there household staff, elderly family, small children, a guest who stays for months? Those answers change the product, the schedule and sometimes the whole approach, and none of them is in a floor plan either. So the practical request is this: when you ask us what to buy, tell us how many bedrooms and bathrooms sit behind closed doors at a normal hour, whether the living space is genuinely open or is a hall with rooms off a passage, roughly what the ceiling height is, and whether the house lives with windows open or air conditioning on. That takes one message and it produces a genuinely specific answer. Square footage on its own produces a guess, and usually an expensive one, because the guess errs towards a larger machine and oversizing in this category is invisible to the household - everybody adapts within about an hour, so nobody living there ever detects the result. Only visitors do, and they never mention it.
What square footage does not tell you
What square footage does not tell you. Doors, which decide most of it: count the bedrooms and bathrooms shut at an ordinary hour, and give each one a reed diffuser - Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Garden Bloom at Rs 799, Evening Calm at Rs 799, Fresh Brew at Rs 849, Mountain Breeze at Rs 849 - three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, with bedrooms at the lightest level in the home from a source the occupant can move or cap. Then the machine question, decided by the connected living space: the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 where the closed-door walk shows a genuinely open plane - waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 m², Bluetooth app and timer control; the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank for a partly open or modest space; the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799 for a compact hall; and no machine at all in a compartmented home. Height: multiply floor area by ceiling height rather than working from square footage, and in a tall room raise the source to console height rather than raising the dose, since fragrance stratifies above head height. Layout: one point for a square open space, two placed apart for an L, points spaced along a linear run, and none for a compartmented plan. Airflow: in a ventilated home, build the level with windows and internal doors shut in the half hour before people come home rather than buying a larger machine; keep every source out of an air conditioner's direct throw. Textiles: rugs, curtains and upholstery are the reservoir that turns a dose into a steady background, so in a hard minimal room add soft furnishing rather than dose. And the household: daily or occasional use, who is home in the afternoon, who will honestly refill a tank, and whether there are children, elderly family or staff - all of which change the answer. The entrance, in every home: a reed or the SOSA Boond at Rs 799, permanent rather than scheduled. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents; it is not reed diffuser oil. Never scented: children's rooms, the kitchen at any time, the dining area during a meal, and covered terraces and balconies. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
