You should buy an ultrasonic diffuser if you want continuous, even scent and a little humidity for AC-dry air, delivered as a cool mist you can leave running hands-off. I am Sonal Sahani, an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer, and I will also tell you where a diffuser is not the right tool, because it is not an air purifier.
Quick answers — read this first
Is it worth buying? Yes, if you want steady room scent plus a touch of humidity in dry AC or winter air, with no flame and no reapplying. It runs in the background all day.

Does it clean the air? No. A diffuser scents and humidifies; it does not filter dust, smoke or allergens. Ventilate and fix odour sources first, then let a diffuser freshen.

What do I put in it? Only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance and filtered or RO water. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are thick and can clog the misting plate.
The short answer
Best for: steady all-day scent plus light humidity in AC-dry rooms, hands-off.
Cool mist: an ultrasonic plate atomises water with no heating element, so no burn risk.
Honest limit: it is not an air purifier and does not remove an odour source.
Fill with: SOSA water-based fragrance and filtered water only, never hot water or raw oils.
Which SOSA diffuser by room (live specs)Boond ₹799 — 300ml, desk/bedside, up to 6 hrsSukoon ₹1799 — 500ml, bedroom, 16-18 hrs, remote+lightMegh ₹3499 — 6L, whole room, up to 100 hrs
Illustrative only. Match tank and runtime to the room: Boond for a desk, Sukoon for a bedroom, Megh for a living room or dry winter air.
Straight answer
Why should I buy an ultrasonic diffuser?
Because it gives you three things at once: a continuous, even scent that fills a room instead of a passing spritz; a little humidity that takes the edge off AC-dry or winter air; and a cool, hands-off mist you can set and forget with an auto shut-off. If those are things you want at home, it earns its place. If you are hoping it will purify the air, it will not - that is the honest limit, and I would rather you knew before you bought.
One line: buy it for steady scent and light humidity, not for air purification.

Five real reasons to buy one

I get asked this most weeks, so let me give you the reasons I actually believe in - not a spec sheet, but the things that change how a room feels.

1. Scent that stays, not a spritz that fades. A room spray gives you thirty seconds of a burst that drops off fast. A diffuser releases a fine, even mist for hours, so the scent is a steady background rather than a peak and a crash. That is the difference between a room that smells nice when you walk in and one that smells nice all evening.
2. A little humidity for AC-dry air. Indian rooms swing between AC and dry winter, and both pull moisture out of the air. An ultrasonic diffuser puts a small amount back as cool mist. It is not a replacement for a dedicated humidifier in a very large space, but for a bedroom or study it softens that parched feeling.
3. Cool mist, no heat, no flame. The mist is made by an ultrasonic plate vibrating water, not by heating it. There is no boiling water, no hot surface and no flame, which matters in a home with children or pets. Each SOSA unit also has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.
4. Hands-off and quiet. You fill it, add a few drops of fragrance and leave it. Sukoon runs 16 to 18 hours and has a remote and timers; Megh has a 6-litre tank that lasts days. You are not walking round the house re-spraying.
5. A softer light and a calmer mood. Boond and Sukoon carry a soft colour light that doubles as a gentle night light. Scent and low light together do more for how a room feels in the evening than either alone.
My honest take: if you already open your windows, keep bins clean and just want a room to feel expensive and calm, a diffuser is one of the best-value things you can add. If your room has a real smell problem, read the next section first.

What a diffuser does not do

I would rather undersell this than have you disappointed. A diffuser scents and lightly humidifies. It does not filter the air.

Myth: a diffuser purifies the air. It does not remove dust, smoke, pollen or pollutants - it adds a scented mist on top of whatever is already there. If you need clean air, that is a HEPA purifier and open windows, not a diffuser.
Myth: scent equals fresh. Fragrance masks; it does not remove a source. If a room smells of a full bin, damp or shoes, fix and ventilate that first. Fragrance freshens beautifully once the source is gone, not before.
Cool-mist ultrasonic diffuser
A device that uses a high-frequency ultrasonic plate to turn water into a fine, cool mist with no heating element. A few drops of water-based fragrance ride that mist into the room. It humidifies a little and scents; it does not heat, burn or purify.

The only thing you put in it is SOSA water-based fragrance and filtered or RO water. Never hot water, and never raw essential or carrier oils - those are thick and solvent-heavy and can coat and clog the misting plate. That single habit is the difference between a diffuser that lasts years and one that dies in a month.

The SOSA range

SOSA makes three cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers for different rooms, each arriving with three of our water-based Hotel Collection fragrances so you can scent from day one. Prices and headline specs below are live from the SOSA store. Whichever you choose, use only the SOSA water-based fragrance - raw essential or carrier oils can clog the misting plate.

A note from Sonal

I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine. Indian rooms are bone-dry from AC and winter, and most gadget diffusers are too small, too loud, or quit by midnight. So we made three: Boond (300ml, desk), Sukoon (500ml, bedroom, with a remote and mood light) and Megh (6L, whole-room), each shipping with three of our fragrances.

They are cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers - an ultrasonic plate turns water into a fine, cool mist with no heating element, so there is no boiling water or burn risk, and each has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.

One thing I say on every listing and will say here: use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are thick or solvent-heavy and can clog the misting plate and damage the unit. A few drops of our water-based fragrance in the tank mists cleanly and scents the whole room.

Frequently asked questions

Is an ultrasonic diffuser worth buying?
Yes, if you want continuous, even scent and a little humidity for AC-dry or winter air, delivered as a cool mist you can leave running hands-off. It is not worth buying if what you actually need is air purification, which it does not do.
Does an ultrasonic diffuser purify the air?
No. It scents and lightly humidifies a room but does not filter dust, smoke, pollen or pollutants. Ventilate and fix odour sources first, then let a diffuser freshen the room.
What can I put in a SOSA diffuser?
Only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance with filtered or RO water. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are too thick and can clog the ultrasonic misting plate and damage the unit.
Which SOSA diffuser should I buy first?
Match it to the room: Boond (₹799) for a desk or bedside, Sukoon (₹1799) for a bedroom or study with its remote and timers, and Megh (₹3499, 6L) for a living room or dry winter air.
Is the mist hot? Is it safe around children?
The mist is cool - it is made by an ultrasonic plate, not by heating water, so there is no boiling water or hot surface. Each unit also has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.
