A living room is felt from the doorway, not from the console — so a diffuser that only works up close is not doing its real job. This is almost never a broken machine. It is a question of throw and placement: whether the scent has the power and the airflow to travel.
Quick answer
It is a throw problem. The diffuser is either too small for the room or placed where the air does not move, so scent pools beside it and never crosses the room.
Fix placement first. Lift it off the floor, out of dead corners, and set it near gentle airflow — an AC, fan or doorway carries scent much further.
