Profile six: a house whose doors are habitually shut. Buy reeds room by room, and do not buy a machine. Some houses simply live that way - bedrooms closed for the air-conditioning, a study that is a workplace, a kitchen with a door. If that is your house, a coverage rating is describing something you do not have, because the rating assumes one continuous body of air and yours is a set of small separate volumes. You would be paying ₹11,999 for an advantage your layout cannot use, and the machine would end up holding a register across a hall and a passage. Reeds from ₹749 are the correct answer here rather than a downgrade: six rooms at ₹749 is ₹4,494, and five across the range at ₹749, ₹799, ₹799, ₹849 and ₹849 is ₹4,045. Profile seven: a large villa of 4,000 square feet or more, running on central air-conditioning. Buy the Aangan. At a ten foot ceiling, 4,000 square feet is 40,000 cubic feet, about 1,133m³, which is past a single Vaayu's rating on paper - though in practice almost no house that size is one connected volume, so measure before you conclude anything, since subtracting five bedrooms, their bathrooms, a study and a utility area often leaves 2,000 to 2,500 square feet genuinely open, about 566m³ to 708m³, which is comfortably inside the rating. The real reason to go up a rung is different: if you want one register in every room including the ones behind closed doors, no standalone machine can do it. The entertainer's real problem is not fragrance, it is the last fifteen minutes before the doorbell, when somebody who cannot smell their own house makes a decision about it under mild social pressure - which is precisely the recipe for overdoing it. Honest notes before you buy anything. Coverage ratings assume connected air volume. A machine cannot push scent through a closed bedroom door, and it never will - so a partitioned villa is not one scenting problem but several, and honest sizing means saying so out loud rather than selling you one machine and hoping. Scent the volume that is genuinely open to itself, then give the closed rooms their own quiet answer, usually a reed diffuser. Fragrance never substitutes for ventilation or cleaning. If a room smells damp, stale or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it first; scent added on top of that only makes a more complicated bad smell. A home is not a lobby you pass through. There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.
A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. My villa is 2,500 sq ft over two floors. What exactly should I buy?
One SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 placed low in the connected ground-floor volume near the base of the stair, plus a reed at Rs 749 in each room that stays behind a closed door. Here is the reasoning rather than just the answer. At a ten foot ceiling, 2,500 square feet is 25,000 cubic feet, about 708 cubic metres, which is inside the Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metre rating - but that is the whole house, and the machine only ever serves connected air, so measure the part that is genuinely open to itself: entrance, living, dining, passage and stair void. That is almost certainly well under 708 cubic metres, which is a comfortable place to be. The stairwell then does the work upstairs for free, because it behaves like a chimney and warm air carries the register to the landing on its own, which is why a second machine is usually unnecessary in a two-floor villa. What the machine will not do is get through the closed bedroom doors on either floor, so count those rooms and buy a reed each: three at Rs 749 is Rs 2,247 and the house is Rs 14,246; four across the range at Rs 749, Rs 799, Rs 799 and Rs 849 is Rs 3,196 and the house is Rs 15,195.
Would two Vaayus be better than one Aangan for a big villa?
Cheaper at the till and worse at the job, in most large villas. Two Vaayus is Rs 23,998, which is Rs 2,001 less than one Aangan at Rs 25,999, so on price alone the pair wins. But look at what each buys. Each Vaayu is a standalone machine whose approximately 1000 cubic metre rating describes one connected body of air, so two of them scent two connected volumes and neither enters a single sealed bedroom, bathroom or study - the closed doors are still closed. The Aangan is nebulised into the ductwork of your central air-conditioning, covering approximately 8,000 to 10,000 square feet, so the ducts become the connection those doors removed and the register arrives in every room the system reaches, upstairs included.
