Founder Diaries · Thinking-of-You & Cheer-Up Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
A bad day and a bad week are different problems, and nearly every gift list answers the first one. Your constraint is duration: it is Tuesday, this has been going on since Sunday and it will still be going on at the weekend, so whatever you send has to be doing something on Thursday too. That rules out most of what gets recommended for this - anything whose whole life is the ten seconds in which it is opened.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser · Malabar lemon and mint ₹749 →
The one that keeps going after the week stops being news. SOSA Morning Freshness, ₹749 in 50ml - Malabar lemon and mint, running about 6 to 10 weeks, with no flame, no socket and nothing to remember. It leads this page because it is the only format here that does not depend on somebody having the energy to do anything with it.
Quick answers — read this first
What is a thoughtful gift for someone having a bad week? Something they will use more than once. A 50ml reed diffuser from ₹749 runs about 6 to 10 weeks and asks nothing of them at all, and a two-candle duo at ₹699 gives about 30 to 36 hours across two candles rather than one evening's worth.

Is a single candle enough for a whole week? It can be, and at ₹399 for about 15 to 18 hours it is the right register for a colleague or a newer friend. But it is one or two evenings of use, so if the point is that the week is long, the duo at ₹699 or a reed diffuser is the more honest match between object and situation.

Should I send something every day instead? No. A daily parcel turns you into something else they have to manage, and it puts a low but constant pressure on somebody who has none spare. Send one thing that keeps working, then check in by message on the days you would have sent something - that is the part that does the work.
The short answer
Short answer: Pick for repeat use, not for the moment of opening. A 50ml reed diffuser from Rs 749 runs about 6 to 10 weeks with nothing to switch on, and a candle duo at Rs 699 gives about 30 to 36 hours. A single candle at Rs 399 is right when the relationship is newer.
The pick: A 50ml Morning Freshness reed diffuser at ₹749, or the two-candle duo at ₹699 if you want a flame rather than a bottle.
Why: A reed runs for about 6 to 10 weeks without being switched on, remembered or maintained, which is the only format on the page that keeps going through a stretch when somebody has no spare attention.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What should I send someone who is having a bad week rather than a bad day?
Send something that gets used repeatedly rather than opened once. A 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 runs about 6 to 10 weeks, needs no flame, no socket and nothing remembered, and is still going long after the week in question - that is the closest match between object and situation in the range. A two-candle duo at ₹699 gives about 30 to 36 hours instead of the 15 to 18 hours in a single ₹399 candle, which is several evenings rather than one. A single candle at ₹399 is the right size when the relationship is newer or the week is ordinary-bad rather than genuinely hard. None of these does anything to the week itself. A scent is a scent - it does not change how anything is going and this page is not advice about anybody's health. What keeps working through a long stretch is a person, so the parcel sits alongside the calls and the turning up rather than instead of them, and where somebody is dealing with more than a hard week the person who helps may need to be a professional. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The question is not what looks thoughtful in the moment it is opened. It is what is still in use on Thursday, when the week has stopped being news and is just the week.
The duration answer: a 50ml reed diffuser from ₹749, running about 6 to 10 weeks with nothing to plug in, switch off or remember.
SOSA reed diffusers from ₹749

A week is a duration, and that changes which object works

Sort the options by how long they stay useful and the list reorders itself immediately - the things that look most like gifts do the least across a week, and the thing that looks least like a gift does the most. Three questions get you there.

1
The first variable
Opened once, or used repeatedly
Do the arithmetic and it stops being a matter of taste. A single candle at ₹399 burns about 15 to 18 hours, which is one evening if they light it properly and two if they do not. The ₹699 duo is about 30 to 36 hours across two candles, so it survives being lit on Monday, forgotten on Wednesday and lit again on Saturday. A 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849 runs about 6 to 10 weeks, which outlasts the week by a considerable margin and keeps working on the days nobody has the energy to do anything deliberate.

None of that is a claim about what the scent does. It is a claim about how many times the object is in use, which is the only thing that separates a gift chosen for a day from a gift chosen for a week. If you want the object and the situation to match, match them on duration and let the scent be a taste question afterwards.
Tip: Match the length of the gift to the length of the problem. A week needs more than one evening.
2
The second variable
How many decisions does it ask for
There is a second axis and it cuts the opposite way from price. A reed diffuser asks for nothing - it is set down once and then it simply is. A candle asks for one decision, repeatedly: somebody has to choose to light it, every time, and on a bad week that small decision is sometimes the one that does not get made. An attar asks that they put it on in the morning. A diffuser machine asks to be unboxed, filled with the right fluid, plugged in, positioned and remembered, which is a small job handed to somebody who does not need another one.

So the honest ranking across a long week runs reed, then candle, then attar, then machine - and that is very nearly the reverse of the price order. If you know the person is the sort who lights candles anyway, the duo is lovely. If you do not know that, the bottle of reeds is the safer object, because it does not depend on them doing anything.
3
The third variable
Whether a week is really what this is
Worth stopping on, because the phrase a bad week gets used for two quite different things. Sometimes it is exactly what it says - a run of deadlines, a car that broke, a fortnight where everything landed at once - and then a small parcel that keeps working is a genuinely good idea. Sometimes it is the shorthand somebody uses for something much longer and much harder, and it is worth noticing which one you are buying for before you choose the object.

If it is the second, the object matters less than almost anything else you could do. Ring them. Turn up. Sit in their kitchen. Send the small thing too if you want to, but do not let the parcel be the whole of your response, and where what somebody is dealing with is more than a hard stretch, the person who helps may need to be a professional. This page has no advice to give about that and will not pretend otherwise. What it can tell you is which object is the right size, and the answer is still small.
Tip: If a bad week is shorthand for something longer, the parcel is not the response. Go and see them.
SOSA Cozy Corner scented candle, Rs 399
The smallest thing that still reads as a gift
A candle at ₹399 asks nothing of the person receiving it
Hand-poured in small batches. Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks are ₹399 each at about 15 to 18 hours of burn time, and ₹699 for a two-candle duo at about 30 to 36 hours. The Woodenwick candles in jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla are ₹999. A candle is a scent and an object to light - it is not a treatment and it will not change how a week went.
See the SOSA candles →
Work it out in this order
How to choose for a week in four steps
  1. Count the uses, not the price. One candle is one or two evenings.
  2. Pick a reed at Rs 749 if they have nothing spare to give a new object.
  3. Pick the Rs 699 duo over two separate gifts sent on separate days.
  4. Message them on Thursday as well. That part is not in the parcel.
The SOSA principle
A gift for a bad day can be a moment. A gift for a bad week has to be a thing that is still there on the fourth day, when nobody is checking on anybody any more.
Which usually means one object that keeps working, rather than three that each need opening.

What lasts a week, and what is over in an evening

The reed diffusers are the duration answer and there are five: Morning Freshness at ₹749 is Malabar lemon and mint and the least declarative of them, which makes it the safest thing to send into a flat you have never stood in; Garden Bloom at ₹799 is British rose and night jasmine; Evening Calm at ₹799 is lavender and chamomile, and that is the name on the bottle and a description of what it smells of rather than a claim about what it does; Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is pine, sage and cedar; Fresh Brew at ₹849 is Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla. All five run about 6 to 10 weeks in 50ml, with 130ml from ₹1,249. On the candle side, a single at ₹399 is about 15 to 18 hours and the duo at ₹699 is about 30 to 36 hours - those are the only burn figures SOSA publishes, so no other candle here gets one. An attar from ₹379 is worn daily if they take to it, which makes it a duration gift too, but only when you can already name what they wear.

The SOSA gift edit
Four options, ranked by how many days they are actually in use
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
A 50ml reed diffuser · ₹749 to ₹849 About 6 to 10 weeks, and it asks for nothing: no flame, no socket, nothing to switch off or remember. The best match on this page between the length of the object and the length of the problem, and the right pick when you are buying for a room rather than for a person's taste. It fails on register in a newer friendship, where ₹749 is more than a gesture, and the 130ml at ₹1,249 is too much scent for a small flat.
A two-candle duo · ₹699 About 30 to 36 hours across two candles - several evenings rather than one, and still small enough not to make a statement. Right for a sibling, a close friend or a partner where you want a flame rather than a bottle on a shelf. It fails if they simply do not light candles, in which case the whole thing is decorative, and wax melts at ₹499 are not the workaround unless they own a ₹599 burner.
A single candle · ₹399 About 15 to 18 hours, so realistically one or two evenings. The correct answer when the relationship is newer, when the week is ordinary-bad, or when anything larger would put weight on somebody you do not know that well. It fails as a match for a genuinely long stretch - it is a gesture about a moment, and a long fortnight is not a moment.
Car fragrance · ₹449 to ₹549 In use every single day if they commute, which quietly makes it one of the longest-running gifts here for the money, in hanging or spray format at the same price. Right for somebody whose week is bad largely because of what is at the other end of the drive. It fails for anybody who does not drive daily, and the mild hanging format is wrong for a car that is aired out constantly.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
The gift that asks for nothing at all
A reed diffuser needs no flame, no socket and nothing remembered
Five scents in 50ml from ₹749 and 130ml from ₹1,249, running about 6 to 10 weeks. Morning Freshness is Malabar lemon and mint, Garden Bloom is British rose and night jasmine, Mountain Breeze is pine, sage and cedar, Fresh Brew is Coorg coffee and vanilla. Evening Calm is lavender and chamomile - that is the name on the bottle and a description of what it smells of, not a claim about what it does.
See the reed diffusers →

Two things not to do across a long week. The first is to send several parcels in a row - it feels generous from your side and reads as something to keep up with from theirs, and somebody with no spare attention should not be managing a correspondence. One object that keeps working, and then messages that ask nothing back. The second is to trade up because a week sounds serious: the reed duo sets at ₹1,498 and above are the larger home gift for a real occasion, and a hard fortnight is not an occasion. Stay in the ₹379 to ₹1,000 band and put the extra into the sentence you send with it. SOSA encloses no printed card and has no note service, so that sentence is yours to write, which is as it should be.

SOSA Bookshop scented candle, hand-poured, Rs 399

from ₹379 · 3ml
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
Malabar lemon and mint, 50ml, about 6 to 10 weeks. Nothing to plug in, switch off or remember - which matters when somebody has nothing spare to give a new object.
₹749 · 50ml
When the gift is meant to be the big one
SOSA Safar ₹3,999 for the car, SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for the whole home
Safar is the waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser for a car or a travel bag - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios. Vaayu is the machine version of the same idea for a building: waterless cold-air nebulising of undiluted oil, rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, DC 12V / 1A 5W mains power and CE, RoHS and SGS marks. Both run waterless nebuliser oil - 100 gm ₹1,049, 300 gm ₹1,849 - and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is the wrong gift for a two-bedroom flat with every door closed. It adds a scent to a space; it does not remove one.

The gift people reach for on a bad week is the one that is best in the first ten seconds. The one that is worth sending is the one that is still quietly working on the fourth day, when the week has stopped being news.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every one of these, and neither is about price. First: how much energy does this ask of them? A candle is lit and that is the whole interaction; a reed diffuser asks nothing at all; a machine asks to be filled, plugged in and remembered, which is the wrong thing to hand somebody who is already running on empty. Second: can you name something they already like? If yes, an attar is accurate. If no, buy for the room instead, because a room has no opinion and a person does. Then keep the number low - on a hard week the size of a gift is a demand, not a kindness.

The SOSA gifting range
Pick by how small it can be while still being specific - in that order
Gift What it is Who it suits Price
SOSA scented candles Hand-poured, small batches Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks at about 15 to 18 hours of burn time; duos at about 30 to 36 hours from ₹399
SOSA attars Alcohol-free roll-on oil Adaa, Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml - the smallest serious fragrance gift there is from ₹379
SOSA reed diffusers Passive home fragrance Five scents in 50ml and 130ml, nothing to plug in or switch off, about 6 to 10 weeks from ₹749
SOSA Attar Trio Pack of three attars Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in one box - for when you cannot name a scent they wear from ₹1,055
SOSA wax melts Flameless, needs a burner Scented wax for a ceramic or electric burner - only for somebody who already owns one, or buy the burner too from ₹499
SOSA car fragrance Hanging or spray Nine scents, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price from ₹449
SOSA reed duo sets Two reeds in one box Day & Night, Fresh & Grounded and Warmth & Bloom - the larger home gift, for a real occasion from ₹1,498

Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

What SOSA publishes, and what SOSA does not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a gifting page should state.
  • Attars - Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149, Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165, Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179 and Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199 in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. The Attar Trio is ₹1,055, ₹1,859 or ₹3,189.
  • Reed diffusers - Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew ₹849 in 50ml; 130ml from ₹1,249. They last about 6 to 10 weeks. Duo sets from ₹1,498.
  • Car fragrance - nine scents from ₹449 to ₹549, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price, with 50ml sprays at ₹1,499 and saver combos at ₹899 to ₹949. Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios.
  • Candles and wax melts - Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks at ₹399 for approximately 15 to 18 hours, or ₹699 for a two-candle duo at approximately 30 to 36 hours. Woodenwick candles in jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla ₹999. Bubble Candles ₹499 unscented and ₹599 scented. Wax melts from ₹499, which need a ceramic burner at ₹599 - so they are only a complete gift for somebody who already owns one.

A note from Sonal

The messages that stay with me are not the festive ones. They are the ones that start my friend is having an awful time and I do not know what to do. People write that at eleven at night, and what they are really asking is whether there is an object that will help. I have been doing this long enough to answer it honestly: there is not. A fragrance is a scent. It will not fix a week, it will not undo a rejection, and anybody selling it to you as comfort is selling you something else.

What a small parcel does do is carry one piece of information, and it is not a small one: I was thinking about you on a day when nothing made me. No birthday, no festival, nothing on a calendar. Somebody stopped in the middle of their own week and thought about yours. That is worth sending, and it is the entire reason this category exists.

So the practical advice runs the other way from what people expect. Go smaller. A large gift arrives at somebody who is already short of energy and asks them to produce a reaction - gratitude, surprise, a phone call they have to be bright on. A ₹399 candle or a ₹379 attar asks for none of that. And send the words yourself, separately: we put no printed card in the parcel, and even if we did, a sentence from you naming the actual thing they are dealing with does more than anything we could print. If you are choosing between the bigger gift and making the call, make the call. The gift goes alongside that, never instead of it.

Frequently asked questions

What gift lasts longer than a single evening?
A 50ml reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849 runs about 6 to 10 weeks, and a two-candle duo at Rs 699 gives about 30 to 36 hours rather than the 15 to 18 hours in a single Rs 399 candle. Car fragrance from Rs 449 is in use every day for somebody who commutes. Those are the only burn and duration figures SOSA publishes.
Is a reed diffuser a good gift for someone having a hard time?
It is the format that asks the least of them, which is the main thing in its favour. No flame, no socket, nothing to switch off and nothing to remember. It is a scent in a room and nothing more than that, and it does not change how anybody's week is going. Do not send the 130ml size to a small flat, and do not send one at all if you are really buying it to avoid making a phone call.
Should I send a few small things across the week instead of one gift?
One thing is better. A run of parcels reads as something the person has to keep up with, and acknowledging each one is work handed to somebody who has none spare. Send one object that keeps working, then message during the week without expecting a reply.
How much should I spend on a gift for a bad week?
Rs 379 to Rs 1,000 covers it properly. A reed diffuser at Rs 749, a candle duo at Rs 699 or a single candle at Rs 399 are all inside that. The reed duo sets at Rs 1,498 and above are a larger home gift meant for a real occasion, and a difficult fortnight is not one.
What if it is not really just a bad week?
Then the object is the least important part of your response and it is worth being honest with yourself about that. Ring them, go and see them, sit with them. Send something small as well if you want to, but never in place of turning up. Where somebody is dealing with more than a hard stretch, the person who helps may need to be a professional, and no page and no product is a substitute for that.

Where this guide covers sending something to a person having a difficult time, it treats a gift as a gesture of attention alongside real support and never as a substitute for a person or for professional help, and it gives no mental-health advice. No delivery date, dispatch time, order cut-off, discount or minimum order quantity is stated anywhere on this page; corporate and bulk enquiries are answered on WhatsApp. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand; the SOSA perfumes are SOSA's own compositions and are not the designer fragrances they are described as being inspired by. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
