The order is the whole method
Most people run it backwards
The instinctive response to a room that reads weak is to buy a stronger fragrance, which is the last variable in the list and the least powerful. The most powerful is whether the machine suits the volume, and it is the one nobody checks, partly because equipment guidance is usually given in square feet and quietly assumes a normal ceiling. Running the list in order - volume, unit, dose, register - solves the problem in the great majority of homes before a new bottle is ever considered, and when a new bottle does turn out to be the answer, at least it is being chosen for character rather than as a workaround for an undersized machine.

Two false readings
Both extremely common
Before adjusting anything, eliminate the two things that make a correct setup look wrong. Adaptation collapses your perception of a scented room within about ten minutes and does not reverse while you stay in it, which makes the person setting the level the least reliable judge in the house - the fix is to step outside for five minutes or ask somebody arriving. Mineral scale from hard water coats the vibrating plate and reduces mist output so gradually that only the endpoint registers - the fix is a soft damp cloth after use and a periodic descale. First, six drops per tank is an engineering ceiling: beyond it the excess oil films the plate, dampens the vibration and reduces output, so more genuinely means less. Second, fragrance never subtracts - it stands beside an existing smell and the nose separates both - so bins, drains, damp, musty fabric and stagnant air are cleaning and ventilation jobs that precede any purchase.
