Founder Diaries · Thinking-of-You & Cheer-Up Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
You are probably not stuck on the scent. You are stuck on how much - because too little looks careless, and too much looks like you have decided their situation is worse than they have. That second failure is the real one and almost nobody warns you about it. A gift sent to somebody having a hard time gets read as a measure of how serious you think things are, which is why the word small is doing nearly all the work in the phrase you searched for.
SOSA Cozy Corner scented candle, hand-poured, Rs 399
SOSA Cozy Corner candle · hand-poured in micro batches ₹399 →
The size this whole page is arguing for. The SOSA Cozy Corner candle, ₹399 - about 15 to 18 hours of burn time, or ₹699 for a two-candle duo at about 30 to 36 hours. It is small enough that nobody has to work out what it means, which on a week with no occasion in it is the entire point.
Quick answers — read this first
What is a good small gift to cheer someone up? A SOSA candle at ₹399, which burns about 15 to 18 hours, or a 3ml alcohol-free attar from ₹379. Both are small enough to be taken in at a glance and used up without anybody having to find them a permanent home.

How small is too small? ₹379 is the floor, and it is a real floor rather than a rounding. Below it nothing in the SOSA range stands on its own: the ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is fuel for an ultrasonic machine, wax melts at ₹499 need a ₹599 ceramic burner, and car hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹429 only work for somebody who already owns the bottle.

Why not just send something bigger? Because size is read as information. On a birthday a larger gift says you are fond of somebody. Sent into a bad stretch with no occasion attached, it says you think the stretch is bad enough to warrant it - and it hands somebody already short of energy a parcel they now have to react to. ₹379 to ₹1,000 covers this properly.
The short answer
Short answer: A SOSA candle at Rs 399 or a 3ml attar at Rs 379. Do not go below that: the Rs 299 Hotel Collection bottle is fuel for a machine and wax melts at Rs 499 need a Rs 599 burner, so neither is a gift on its own. Then send the words yourself, separately.
The pick: A single SOSA candle at ₹399 - Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings or Evening Walks.
Why: It is the smallest object in the range that still reads as chosen rather than grabbed, it is gone in a couple of evenings, and it does not compete with whatever you actually want to say.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What should I send when I want it to be small rather than impressive?
A single SOSA candle at ₹399 - about 15 to 18 hours of burn time, or ₹699 for a two-candle duo at about 30 to 36 hours - or a 3ml attar at ₹379 if you can name something they already wear. Those two are the small end of the range and they are the answer far more often than anything above them. Do not try to go lower by buying a component: the ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is water-based fuel for an ultrasonic machine, and wax melts at ₹499 arrive unusable unless the person already owns a ceramic burner at ₹599. What the small one buys you is silence around the gesture. A large parcel arriving for no occasion makes a statement about how serious you think their situation is, and then asks them to produce gratitude on top of it. None of this is treatment and none of it is advice about anybody's health - a scent is a scent. The parcel sits alongside ringing them, visiting, sitting with them, and never in place of it, and where somebody is dealing with more than a hard stretch the person who helps may need to be a professional. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Before you add to basket, ask what the size of this parcel says about how bad you think things have got. A big one answers a question nobody asked.
The default here is the smallest real thing in the range: a candle at ₹399, hand-poured in small batches, about 15 to 18 hours.
SOSA candles from ₹399

Why the size of the parcel is read before the scent is

Most lists of small gifts are really lists of cheap gifts, which is a different thing and a worse one. Small is about what the object demands once it lands; cheap is only about what you paid. Three questions separate them.

1
The first variable
What the size says before the box is open
A gift with an occasion attached is easy to read - a birthday parcel means happy birthday, whatever is inside it. A gift with no occasion attached has to be interpreted, and the first thing anybody interprets is the size. If a friend who has had a rough month opens something substantial from you, the honest reading is she thinks this is bad. That may even be true. It is still not a thing you get to decide on somebody else's behalf and hand over in a box.

The small version dodges all of that. A ₹399 candle or a ₹379 attar is legible in one second and makes no assessment at all. It says you thought about them. It does not say what you concluded. That distinction is the whole reason this page argues downwards, and it is why the useful band here runs from ₹379 to about ₹1,000 rather than up to whatever you were willing to spend.
Tip: If the parcel needs explaining, it is too big for a week with no occasion in it.
2
The second variable
The floor - why there is nothing honest below ₹379
Plenty of gifting pages will pad a sub-₹300 list by counting things that are not gifts. SOSA sells three of them and they are worth naming so you do not send one by accident. The ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is 15ml of water-based fragrance for an ultrasonic machine - if the person does not own a Boond at ₹899 or a Sukoon at ₹1,899, it is a bottle of liquid with nothing to put it in. Wax melts at ₹499 have the same problem in reverse: they are lovely and they need a ceramic burner at ₹599, so on their own they are a component. Car hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹429 only make sense for somebody who already has the bottle hanging in the car.

So the floor is a 3ml attar at ₹379 and a candle at ₹399, and after that car fragrance from ₹449. If your budget is genuinely under ₹379, the honest move is not to find something smaller. It is to send nothing and make the call instead, which costs nothing and does more.
3
The third variable
Who has to deal with the object afterwards
Everything you send becomes somebody's problem for a while, and the size of that problem is not the same as the price. A candle is used up. An attar is used up. A reed diffuser runs about 6 to 10 weeks and then the bottle goes in the bin. Those are all fine. A large decorative object has to be found a shelf, kept, dusted and eventually felt guilty about, and a machine has to be unboxed, filled, plugged in, positioned and remembered.

This is the practical argument for small, separate from the emotional one. Consumable beats keepsake here. A keepsake is a lovely idea on a good day and an obligation on a bad one, because it sits in the room being unused and saying so. Anything that gets burned, worn or evaporated away leaves nothing behind but the fact that you sent it, which is exactly the amount you wanted to leave behind.
Tip: Consumable over keepsake. Nothing that has to be kept, and nothing that has to be set up.
SOSA Cozy Corner scented candle, Rs 399
The smallest thing that still reads as a gift
A candle at ₹399 asks nothing of the person receiving it
Hand-poured in small batches. Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks are ₹399 each at about 15 to 18 hours of burn time, and ₹699 for a two-candle duo at about 30 to 36 hours. The Woodenwick candles in jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla are ₹999. A candle is a scent and an object to light - it is not a treatment and it will not change how a week went.
See the SOSA candles →
Work it out in this order
How to size this properly in four steps
  1. Write the sentence you want to say first. The object goes second.
  2. Start at Rs 379 and work up. Do not start at your budget and work down.
  3. Reject anything needing a second purchase, like wax melts without a burner.
  4. Send the words yourself. SOSA puts no printed card in the parcel.
The SOSA principle
Size is a statement whether you meant it as one or not. On a birthday it says how fond you are. Sent into a bad stretch with no occasion attached, it says how bad you have decided things are.
Which is why the honest version of this gift is almost always the cheaper one on the page.

The small end of the SOSA range, and what each size says

At the small end the range is short, which helps. The candles - Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks - are ₹399 each, hand-poured in micro batches, at about 15 to 18 hours of burn time, with a two-candle duo at ₹699 for about 30 to 36 hours. The Woodenwick candles in jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla are ₹999 and are already at the top of this band. The attars are alcohol-free oil rolled on rather than sprayed, and the 3ml is the size that belongs here: Adaa ₹379 is bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac; Ameeri ₹385 is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood and saffron; Mastani ₹389 is night-blooming jasmine with damask rose; Nawaab ₹399 is white oud with Mysore sandalwood. Car fragrance starts at ₹449 and is the small gift for somebody who spends an hour a day driving.

The SOSA gift edit
The four small options, and what each one's size says
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
A 3ml attar · ₹379 to ₹399 The smallest serious fragrance gift there is, and the one that reads most clearly as chosen for a particular person. Right when you can finish the sentence she usually wears something with.... It fails when you are guessing, because a worn scent is a taste decision and a wrong guess sits in a drawer. It also fails as a first gift to somebody you do not know well - worn fragrance is close to the skin and that closeness has to already exist.
A single candle · ₹399 About 15 to 18 hours, hand-poured in micro batches, and the only thing on this list that works without knowing anything about their taste. It asks one thing, that it be lit, and then it is gone. It fails for somebody who will not light a flame in their home, and wax melts are not the workaround unless they already own a ₹599 burner.
A two-candle duo · ₹699 About 30 to 36 hours across two candles, so roughly twice the object for less than twice the price. Reasonable for a sibling or a close friend where ₹399 would look thin. It fails exactly where this page keeps pointing: for a colleague, a newer friend or anybody you are not close to, two candles is a bigger statement than the relationship supports.
Car fragrance · ₹449 to ₹549 Nine scents, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price. The right small gift for somebody whose worst hour of the day is spent in traffic, and it lands in a space nobody else thinks to buy for. It fails for anybody who does not drive daily, and it is the wrong register entirely if the two of you have never talked about their car.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
The gift that asks for nothing at all
A reed diffuser needs no flame, no socket and nothing remembered
Five scents in 50ml from ₹749 and 130ml from ₹1,249, running about 6 to 10 weeks. Morning Freshness is Malabar lemon and mint, Garden Bloom is British rose and night jasmine, Mountain Breeze is pine, sage and cedar, Fresh Brew is Coorg coffee and vanilla. Evening Calm is lavender and chamomile - that is the name on the bottle and a description of what it smells of, not a claim about what it does.
See the reed diffusers →

On sizes within a product, the rule is the same one turned inwards: send the smaller one. The 3ml attar rather than the 6ml at ₹669 or the 12ml at ₹1,149. The single candle at ₹399 rather than the ₹699 duo unless you are genuinely close. The 50ml reed at ₹749 rather than the 130ml at ₹1,249. And if you want the gift to feel more considered, the place to put that effort is the sentence you send with it, not the size upgrade - SOSA encloses no printed card and has no note-with-the-order service, so the words are yours to send and they are the part that carries this. If the real choice in front of you is between the larger parcel and picking up the phone, pick up the phone.

SOSA Bookshop scented candle, hand-poured, Rs 399
Hand-poured in small batches, about 15 to 18 hours of burn time, or about 30 to 36 hours in the two-candle duo. The smallest gift here that still looks like a gift.
₹399 · duo ₹699
SOSA Adaa attar, bergamot and jasmine sambac, from Rs 379
Alcohol-free oil rolled onto the pulse points rather than sprayed. Adaa, Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml - and the 3ml is the right one here.
from ₹379 · 3ml
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
Malabar lemon and mint, 50ml, about 6 to 10 weeks. Nothing to plug in, switch off or remember - which matters when somebody has nothing spare to give a new object.
₹749 · 50ml
When the gift is meant to be the big one
SOSA Safar ₹3,999 for the car, SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for the whole home
Safar is the waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser for a car or a travel bag - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios. Vaayu is the machine version of the same idea for a building: waterless cold-air nebulising of undiluted oil, rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, DC 12V / 1A 5W mains power and CE, RoHS and SGS marks. Both run waterless nebuliser oil - 100 gm ₹1,049, 300 gm ₹1,849 - and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is the wrong gift for a two-bedroom flat with every door closed. It adds a scent to a space; it does not remove one.

People ask me for something small and then describe something large, because large feels like caring harder. It does not read that way at the other end. Small says I thought of you. Large says I have made a judgement about your life.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every one of these, and neither is about price. First: how much energy does this ask of them? A candle is lit and that is the whole interaction; a reed diffuser asks nothing at all; a machine asks to be filled, plugged in and remembered, which is the wrong thing to hand somebody who is already running on empty. Second: can you name something they already like? If yes, an attar is accurate. If no, buy for the room instead, because a room has no opinion and a person does. Then keep the number low - on a hard week the size of a gift is a demand, not a kindness.

The SOSA gifting range
Pick by how small it can be while still being specific - in that order
Gift What it is Who it suits Price
SOSA scented candles Hand-poured, small batches Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks at about 15 to 18 hours of burn time; duos at about 30 to 36 hours from ₹399

SOSA Attar Trio Pack of three attars Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in one box - for when you cannot name a scent they wear from ₹1,055
SOSA wax melts Flameless, needs a burner Scented wax for a ceramic or electric burner - only for somebody who already owns one, or buy the burner too from ₹499
SOSA car fragrance Hanging or spray Nine scents, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price from ₹449
SOSA reed duo sets Two reeds in one box Day & Night, Fresh & Grounded and Warmth & Bloom - the larger home gift, for a real occasion from ₹1,498

Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

The messages that stay with me are not the festive ones. They are the ones that start my friend is having an awful time and I do not know what to do. People write that at eleven at night, and what they are really asking is whether there is an object that will help. I have been doing this long enough to answer it honestly: there is not. A fragrance is a scent. It will not fix a week, it will not undo a rejection, and anybody selling it to you as comfort is selling you something else.

What a small parcel does do is carry one piece of information, and it is not a small one: I was thinking about you on a day when nothing made me. No birthday, no festival, nothing on a calendar. Somebody stopped in the middle of their own week and thought about yours. That is worth sending, and it is the entire reason this category exists.

So the practical advice runs the other way from what people expect. Go smaller. A large gift arrives at somebody who is already short of energy and asks them to produce a reaction - gratitude, surprise, a phone call they have to be bright on. A ₹399 candle or a ₹379 attar asks for none of that. And send the words yourself, separately: we put no printed card in the parcel, and even if we did, a sentence from you naming the actual thing they are dealing with does more than anything we could print. If you are choosing between the bigger gift and making the call, make the call. The gift goes alongside that, never instead of it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the smallest gift SOSA sells that still counts as a gift?
A 3ml attar at Rs 379 and a scented candle at Rs 399. Below that the products stop being standalone: the Rs 299 Hotel Collection bottle is water-based fuel for an ultrasonic machine, wax melts at Rs 499 need a ceramic burner at Rs 599, and car hanging refills at Rs 399 to Rs 429 are only useful to somebody who already owns the hanging bottle.
Is a Rs 399 gift too cheap to send someone going through a hard time?
No, and the question has the sign flipped. There is no occasion attached to this parcel, so its size is the only thing telling the recipient what you think. Rs 399 says you thought about them. A larger figure says you have formed a view about how bad their situation is, and then asks them to be grateful about it while they are already short of energy.
Should I send a candle or an attar if I want to keep it small?
An attar if you can name something they already wear, because it reads as specifically chosen. A candle if you cannot, because it works without knowing anything about their taste and it is used up rather than kept. Do not send a candle to somebody you know will not light one at home.
Can I send wax melts as a small gift?
Only to somebody who already owns a burner. Wax melts at Rs 499 have no way to release their scent without a ceramic burner at Rs 599 or an electric one, so on their own they arrive as a component rather than a gift. Sent together they are a perfectly good present, but that is Rs 1,098 and no longer a small one.
What do I write with something this small?
Two plain sentences that name the actual thing they are dealing with, and that ask nothing back - no reply needed and no cheerfulness required. SOSA encloses no printed card and has no note service, so you send that separately, by text or voice note or phone. If you are choosing between spending more and making the call, make the call.

Send the small one, and put the effort into the sentence
A candle at ₹399 or a 3ml attar at ₹379 is the right size for this, and car fragrance from ₹449 if they drive every day. Then write two plain sentences and send them yourself - SOSA encloses no printed card, and the words are the part a parcel cannot carry.
Not sure which one suits the person you are buying for? Send SOSA their age, whether they drive, whether they like their home scented and your budget on WhatsApp, and you will get an honest answer - including when the cheaper product is the better gift.

Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent and does not remove, neutralise or purify odour, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial, air-purifying or wellbeing claim. No claim is made about how any recipient will feel about a gift. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep, comfort or wellbeing: fragrance is a scent, not a treatment, and where a product name contains a word such as Calm that is a name and not an effect. Where this guide covers sending something to a person having a difficult time, it treats a gift as a gesture of attention alongside real support and never as a substitute for a person or for professional help, and it gives no mental-health advice. No delivery date, dispatch time, order cut-off, discount or minimum order quantity is stated anywhere on this page; corporate and bulk enquiries are answered on WhatsApp. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand; the SOSA perfumes are SOSA's own compositions and are not the designer fragrances they are described as being inspired by. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
