This is a question people ask as though it were about money, and it is not. It is a question about doorways. One 130ml and two 50ml cost roughly the same and behave nothing like each other: the large bottle gives you one envelope of fragrance for fourteen to eighteen weeks, and the two small ones give you two envelopes for six to eight. Which is right is decided entirely by whether the air you want to scent is one connected volume or two — and you can answer that by walking your own floor plan, before you spend anything at all.
Quick answers — read this first
One 130ml if: the space is a single room you can close, under roughly 250–300 sq ft, with one main door and no long arm to it.

Two 50ml if: there is any division — an L-shape, a passage, two rooms off the same corridor, a living-dining that runs long.

Priced: one 130ml ₹1,249–₹1,349 for 14–18 weeks. Two 50ml ₹1,498–₹1,598 as a duo set, 6–8 weeks each.

The thing neither does: a bigger bottle is not a louder bottle. At six reeds a 130ml projects about the same as a 50ml. Size buys weeks.
The short answer
Short answer: stand at the point where you most want the room to smell good and count the doorways between you and the bottle's likely position. Zero doorways, one 130ml. One or more, two 50ml. A reed diffuser is a point source with no propulsion, so it fills the volume it stands in and very little of the volume next door; adding oil to one bottle does not extend its reach, it extends its life.
The mechanism: output per bottle is fixed by exposed reed surface, not by how much oil sits below it. Six fibre reeds release at a given rate whether they are standing in 50ml or 130ml. The 130ml simply has more to draw on, which is why it runs 14–18 weeks against 6–8 and why it is a duration purchase. More sources, not more oil, is the only way to raise the total a home receives.
Shop: 50ml ₹749–₹849 and 130ml ₹1,249–₹1,349, six fibre reeds in each. Duo sets ₹1,498–₹1,598 for two 50ml and ₹2,498–₹2,598 for two 130ml, paired so the two scents share a note. Free shipping above ₹499.
Straight answer
One large reed diffuser or two smaller ones?
1. Walk the space and count the doorways and corners. If the air you want scented is one volume with no partition, one door and no long arm, buy one 130ml at ₹1,249–₹1,349. If the space bends, divides or runs long, buy two 50ml and place them at the two ends.

2. Do not choose between them on strength, because there is no difference. Both bottles carry six fibre reeds and release at about the same rate. The 130ml lasts 14–18 weeks; the 50ml lasts 6–8. That is the whole distinction.

3. Two bottles is the only genuine way to increase total output. Output per source is fixed. A second source doubles the number of envelopes in the home, and two 50ml at opposite ends of an open living-dining beat one 130ml in the middle, every time.

4. Price it per week rather than per bottle. One 130ml Morning Freshness at ₹1,249 across roughly 16 weeks is ₹1,249 ÷ 16 ≈ ₹78 a week for one scented volume. A Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 across roughly 7 weeks is ₹1,498 ÷ 7 ≈ ₹214 a week for two. Both figures are arithmetic on our listed prices.

5. If you want two rooms and long duration, the two 130ml duo is the honest answer. ₹2,498–₹2,598 for a pair that runs 14–18 weeks each. It is the most expensive line on this page and the cheapest per week.

6. Two scents in one connected space must share a note. Otherwise you get a seam in the corridor where neither is quite itself. Mountain Breeze and Morning Freshness meet on green eucalyptus; Fresh Brew and Garden Bloom meet on warmth.

7. Past roughly 250–300 sq ft of connected open volume, stop buying bottles. A third reed diffuser is a diminishing return; a Sukoon at ₹1,899 covers 270–320 sq ft actively.

Composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: doorways decide it. One connected volume, one 130ml (₹1,249–₹1,349, 14–18 weeks). Any division or length, two 50ml (duo from ₹1,498, 6–8 weeks each). Neither is louder than the other — a bigger bottle buys weeks, and a second bottle buys reach.
SOSA Day and Night reed diffuser duo set Morning Freshness and Evening Calm
Two envelopes instead of one
SOSA Day & Night duo · Morning Freshness + Evening Calm ₹1,498 / 2 × 50ml
The set I recommend most often to flats where the bedroom and the bathroom open off the same short passage, or where a study sits next to a living room. Two separate point sources, two sets of six fibre reeds, and two rooms that each have their own scented volume rather than one room borrowing from another. Morning Freshness at 9.0 for the daytime rooms and Evening Calm at 8.9 for the one you sleep in — the softest thing we make, on purpose. Also available as 2 × 130ml at ₹2,498 for 14–18 weeks apiece.

Part one — the doorway rule, and why it settles the question

A reed diffuser has no fan, no heat and no propulsion. It creates a concentrated envelope of fragrance roughly an arm's length across and then waits for the room's own air movement to spread it outwards, thinning as it goes. That means the boundary of what a bottle can scent is not a distance in feet — it is the edge of the air volume it stands in. A doorway, a half-wall, a change of ceiling height or a bend in an L-shaped room all act as boundaries, because the air on either side of them mixes slowly. Two rooms joined by a door are not one big room from a fragrance point of view; they are two rooms, and each needs a source. Once you see it that way the purchase decides itself, and no amount of extra oil in a single bottle changes the geometry.

1
TEST ONE · THE WALK
Stand where it matters and count what is between
Pick the spot where you most want the room to smell good — the sofa, the side of the bed you sleep on, the chair by the window — and then walk from there to the surface where the bottle would sensibly stand. Count every doorway, arch, partition and corner you pass through. Zero means one volume and one bottle will do it. One or more means the fragrance has to negotiate a boundary to reach you, and it will arrive thinned to the point of not arriving at all. This walk takes forty seconds and it is a better guide than square footage, because a 200 sq ft room shaped like a rectangle and a 200 sq ft room shaped like an L are entirely different problems for a passive diffuser.
The rule: a doorway costs you more reach than a hundred square feet of open floor does.
2
TEST TWO · THE LENGTH
Long rooms behave like two rooms
SOSA Fresh and Grounded reed diffuser duo setFresh & Groundedduo · ₹1,548The commonest layout in an Indian flat is a living-dining that runs long — sofa at one end, dining table at the other, no wall between them and often twenty feet or more from end to end. There is no doorway here, so the walk test passes, and yet a single bottle in the middle reliably disappoints. Distance alone becomes a boundary once it exceeds what incidental air movement can bridge in a few minutes. The practical marker I use is that if a space has two distinct functions happening at two distinct ends, it has two centres of gravity and wants two sources. Placed at the two ends of a long room, two 50ml give you a scented arrival and a scented dining table; placed in the middle, one 130ml gives you a scented sideboard and two disappointed ends.
The tell: two ends with two purposes means two bottles, whatever the floor area says.
3
TEST THREE · THE CALENDAR
How often you want to think about it
The last test is not spatial at all. A 50ml runs 6–8 weeks and a 130ml runs 14–18, so two small bottles mean a repurchase decision roughly every seven weeks and one large bottle means one about every sixteen. For a good number of people that is the real deciding factor, and it is a perfectly respectable one. If you know you will not remember to reorder, the large bottle in the one room that matters most beats two small bottles that both run dry in the same fortnight while you are travelling. If you enjoy changing the scent with the season, the shorter cycle is a feature rather than a cost — two 50ml let you rotate three or four times a year without anything going to waste.

Part two — priced both ways, in weeks rather than in bottles

Comparing ₹1,249 with ₹1,498 tells you almost nothing, because the two purchases buy different things for different lengths of time. Below is the same comparison expressed per scented volume per week. Every figure in the last two columns is arithmetic on our listed prices, using the midpoint of the stated duration windows, and I have written the sums out rather than presenting the results as measurements.

The same money, two ways
One large bottle against two small ones
Configuration What you get Weeks per fill Total price Arithmetic per week
Two 50ml as a Day & Night duo ★ Two scented volumes, twelve fibre reeds 6–8 weeks each ₹1,498 ₹1,498 ÷ 7 ≈ ₹214
One 130ml Morning Freshness One scented volume, six fibre reeds 14–18 weeks ₹1,249 ₹1,249 ÷ 16 ≈ ₹78
One 130ml Fresh Brew One scented volume at the top of the strength scale 14–18 weeks ₹1,349 ₹1,349 ÷ 16 ≈ ₹84
Two 50ml bought separately Two volumes, your own scent pairing 6–8 weeks each ₹749 + ₹849 = ₹1,598 ₹1,598 ÷ 7 ≈ ₹228
Two 130ml as a Fresh & Grounded duo Two volumes, both running a full season 14–18 weeks each ₹2,548 ₹2,548 ÷ 16 ≈ ₹159
Two vessels fed by a 500ml refill Oil only — you must already own the glass and reeds About 14–18 months across the vessels ₹3,499 ₹3,499 ÷ 500 ≈ ₹7 per ml
The honest caveat: the weekly figures above divide a listed price by the midpoint of a stated duration window, and duration is the figure most affected by your own conditions — heat, draught, reed count and flip cadence all move it. Treat them as a way of comparing two purchases against each other, not as a promise about your flat. And note what the table cannot show: two small bottles are not louder than one large one in the same room. They are louder in two rooms. Putting both 50ml side by side on the same console buys you almost nothing over a single bottle and costs you twice as much.

One bottle, two bottles, or the oil to keep both going
The SOSA principle
A bigger bottle buys weeks. A second bottle buys reach.
They are not competing purchases and they are not interchangeable. Decide which of the two you are short of, and the price comparison stops being confusing.

Part three — if you buy two, what should go with what

Two bottles in two genuinely separate rooms can be anything you like; a bedroom and a bathroom that do not share air can hold two unrelated fragrances without either being spoiled. The care is needed when the two volumes are connected — an L-shaped living-dining, a study open to a hall, a bedroom whose door stays open onto a passage. In those homes the two envelopes meet somewhere in the middle and produce a third smell for a few feet, and if the compositions have nothing in common that third smell is a seam: not unpleasant exactly, but visibly unplanned, the fragrance equivalent of two patterns that do not match.

The fix is simple and it is why our duo sets are paired the way they are. Two scents sharing a note read as one household rather than two decisions. Mountain Breeze and Morning Freshness meet on green eucalyptus, which is the shared thread in the Fresh & Grounded duo at ₹1,548 for two 50ml. Fresh Brew and Garden Bloom meet on warmth and a soft musky base, which is Warmth & Bloom at ₹1,598. And Morning Freshness with Evening Calm works as Day & Night at ₹1,498 because the two are separated by time and room rather than by distance — the bright one for the rooms you use in daylight, the soft one for the room you sleep in.

The alternative, of course, is two bottles of the same scent, and I recommend it more often than the duos for one specific case: a single long room where you want one continuous fragrance rather than a conversation between two. Two 50ml of the same composition at either end of a living-dining produce an even field with no seam anywhere in it, and the fact that they finish within a week of each other makes the reordering simple. It is also the configuration where the 500ml refill at ₹3,499 finally makes sense, because you have two vessels drinking from one supply — ₹3,499 ÷ 500 ≈ ₹7 per millilitre against ₹749 ÷ 50 ≈ ₹15 for a new small bottle. Remember that the refill is oil only: no reeds in the box, and we do not sell reeds separately.

Output per bottle is fixed. The only honest way to raise the total in a home is another source — never a larger one.

Part four — the layout edit

Every common Indian flat layout, with the configuration I would actually buy for it. Where a space appears twice it is because the answer changes with the door.

The layout edit
Your floor plan, and what to put in it
Your layout How many air volumes What to buy Where to stand them Price
One bedroom, door usually closed ★ One One 130ml Dresser or shelf, chest height, away from the AC stream ₹1,249–₹1,349
Long living-dining, no partition One on paper, two in practice Two 50ml of the same scent Entrance console and dining sideboard ₹1,498–₹1,698
L-shaped living room Two — the corner is a boundary Two 50ml sharing a note One in each arm of the L From ₹1,498
Bedroom plus attached bathroom Two, with an extractor working against you Day & Night duo Evening Calm by the bed, Morning Freshness as far from the extractor as possible ₹1,498
Studio flat, one open volume One One 130ml at the top of the scale Near the door, chest height, clear space around it ₹1,349
Two-bedroom flat, whole-home scenting Three or four Two 130ml as a duo, then add singles Entrance first, then the room you sit in most ₹2,498–₹2,598
Open plan over ~250–300 sq ft, or double height One very large one Stop at two bottles — add a Sukoon Machine central, reeds at the edges ₹1,899
Honest notes for buyers: the per-week figures in this article are arithmetic on SOSA's listed prices using the midpoint of each stated duration window, shown as sums rather than as measured claims; real duration varies with heat, draught, reed count and flip cadence. A 130ml is not stronger than a 50ml — at six fibre reeds they project about the same, and the larger size buys 14–18 weeks against 6–8. Refills are oil only: you reuse your own vessel and reeds, there are no reeds in the box, and we do not sell reeds as a separate product, though our guidance is to refresh them every few months. Strength figures are positions on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, not an industry standard. Reed oil never goes in a Sukoon, Boond or Megh, and the water-based Hotel Collection never goes in a reed bottle. Stand every bottle on a tray, because the oil marks wood and stone, and keep it away from children and pets. SOSA Warmth and Bloom reed diffuser duo set Fresh Brew and Garden Bloom
When the two volumes are connected
SOSA Warmth & Bloom duo · Fresh Brew + Garden Bloom ₹1,598 / 2 × 50ml
The pairing for a living room that opens onto an entrance hall, because these two meet on warmth and a soft musky base rather than colliding at the threshold. Fresh Brew at 9.5 is the fullest thing we make and holds a sitting room through an evening; Garden Bloom at 8.9 is rounded and hotel-like, which is exactly what an arrival wants. Six fibre reeds in each bottle, 6–8 weeks apiece. Also as 2 × 130ml at ₹2,598 for 14–18 weeks each.

A note from Sonal

For the first year of the reed range I answered this question with a shrug and a recommendation for the larger bottle, on the reasonable-sounding grounds that it lasts longer and costs less per week. Then I started asking people to describe their flats, and the pattern was immediate. Almost everybody who was disappointed by a 130ml had put it in a home with more than one air volume in it, and almost everybody delighted by one had a single room they could close.

What makes this a difficult thing to sell honestly is that the large bottle is the better product on every measure people usually compare — more oil, longer life, lower cost per week — and it is still the wrong purchase for a great many homes. I would rather lose the higher-value order and have a customer whose flat actually smells the way they hoped, because the alternative is a bottle they eventually describe as weak when it was doing exactly what it was built to do.

The line I hold hardest is the one about never selling a larger bottle as a strength upgrade. Six reeds release at six reeds' rate whether they stand in fifty millilitres or a hundred and thirty. If your problem is that the room is not enough, more oil does not solve it and a second source might. Everything is composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Is one 130ml reed diffuser stronger than one 50ml?
No. Both ship with six fibre reeds and release at about the same rate, because what reaches a room is what evaporates off the exposed reed rather than what sits in the glass. The 130ml holds more oil and therefore runs 14–18 weeks against 6–8 for a 50ml. Size buys duration, never reach.
Do two small reed diffusers smell stronger than one large one?
In two rooms, yes — decisively, because you have two envelopes instead of one. In the same room, barely: two bottles side by side on one console give you very little over a single bottle and cost twice as much. The gain comes from separation, so place them at opposite ends or in separate volumes.
Which is cheaper over a year, one large or two small?
One large, per scented volume. A 130ml Morning Freshness at ₹1,249 across roughly 16 weeks works out at ₹1,249 ÷ 16 ≈ ₹78 a week; a two-bottle 50ml duo at ₹1,498 across roughly 7 weeks works out at ₹1,498 ÷ 7 ≈ ₹214 a week for two volumes. Those are sums on our listed prices using the midpoints of the stated windows, not measurements. If you need two rooms scented, the 2 × 130ml duo at ₹2,498–₹2,598 is the cheapest way to do it.
Can I use two different scents in one open-plan room?
Only if they share a note, otherwise you get a seam where the two envelopes meet. Mountain Breeze and Morning Freshness meet on green eucalyptus; Fresh Brew and Garden Bloom meet on warmth. In a genuinely long room, two bottles of the same scent are usually better than any pairing.
At what point should I stop adding bottles?
At two, for most homes, and certainly past roughly 250–300 sq ft of connected open volume or under a double-height ceiling. A third reed diffuser is a diminishing return in a space that large. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 covers 270–320 sq ft actively, runs 16–18 hours a fill on low and includes three 15ml Hotel Collection scents — a different product line, and not something reed oil goes into.
