Most brokerages in India are small. A converted commercial unit of four or five hundred square feet, a reception bench, three or four desks in the open, a pantry corner, a washroom and two cabins with glass partitions and doors that are usually open. If that is your office, the honest answer to what you should buy is smaller than the one you were expecting, and the reason is not budget. It is that in a room this size the problem was never coverage.
Quick answers — read this first
What size diffuser does a small two-cabin brokerage need? Much less than most people assume. Run the arithmetic: 500 sq ft at a 9 ft ceiling is 4,500 cubic feet, which is about 128 cubic metres; 650 sq ft at 10 ft is 6,500 cubic feet, about 184 cubic metres. A Vaayu is rated to roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air, so at this size it is five to eight times the machine the space needs. The honest recommendation is a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 running a water-based register from Rs 299, or a Megh at Rs 3,499 if you want long unattended runs across an eleven-hour day without anyone refilling it, plus a reed from Rs 749 in each closed cabin and the washroom.
Why do small offices end up overscented? Because the failure mode in a small office is proximity, not capacity. In a 500 sq ft unit the distance from the machine to the nearest human head is often under two metres, and somebody is sitting in that spot for eight hours. What makes a small office unpleasant is almost never that the machine is too weak to fill the room - it is that whoever set it up put a room-scale output within arm's reach of a desk and then turned it up because the far corner did not smell of anything. Buying more capacity makes that worse rather than better. Placement and a locked low setting do more here than any upgrade.
Is a Vaayu ever right for a small brokerage? Yes, but for a different reason than coverage, and you should be clear which reason you are buying on. If the same machine also travels to your premium listings, the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 earns its price on portability and format - it is freestanding, waterless, and runs on 12V at 5W, so it stands on an entrance console in a flat you are showing and adds no moisture to a closed property. If you plan a second branch and want both offices on one identical register at one locked setting, that is also a fair reason. What we will not do is tell you that a 500 sq ft office needs 1000 cubic metres of coverage, because it does not.
The short answer
Short answer: A small two-cabin brokerage of 450 to 650 sq ft holds roughly 128 to 184 cubic metres of connected air, which is a fraction of a Vaayu's ~1000 cubic metre rating. The honest answer is a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 or a Megh at Rs 3,499 running a register from Rs 299, plus reeds from Rs 749 in closed cabins and the washroom. The failure mode in a small office is proximity, not capacity: keep the source at least two metres from any desk, lock the setting low, and let the staff who sit there calibrate it. A Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is right here only if it also travels to your listings or serves a second branch. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for premises to ~1000m³; reeds from ₹749 for a single room; cabin systems from ₹1,899; HVAC from ₹25,999.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
I have a small two-cabin brokerage. What should I actually buy, and how do I avoid overdoing it?
Five steps, and the first one saves most people ten thousand rupees. 1. Do the arithmetic before you shop. Floor area multiplied by ceiling height gives cubic feet; divide by 35.3 for cubic metres. A 500 sq ft unit at 9 ft is 4,500 cubic feet, about 128 cubic metres. A 650 sq ft unit at 10 ft is 6,500 cubic feet, about 184 cubic metres. Against a Vaayu rated to around 1000 cubic metres of connected air, that is a machine sized for five to eight times your office. 2. Buy for the volume you have. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 with a water-based register from the Hotel Collection (from ₹299) is genuinely enough for an open area of this size. A Megh at ₹3,499 buys you a 6L tank and long unattended runs rather than more coverage - useful if nobody in the office wants to think about refilling across an eleven-hour day. 3. Treat the cabins as separate volumes. With the doors open, glass-partitioned cabins are part of one connected volume and the machine reaches them. With the doors shut, each cabin becomes its own 40 to 60 cubic metre space that nothing in the open area can reach. A reed from ₹749 in each is the correct, cheap and permanent answer, and it has no setting anybody can turn up. 4. Solve proximity, not capacity. Keep the source at least two metres from the nearest desk and out of the direct path of the air-conditioner's throw. In a small office the person nearest the machine is the person who will tell you it is too strong, and they will be right. 5. Lock it low and let the team calibrate. Lowest usable setting, one full working week, then fix it. A sensitivity report from anyone on the team is a recalibration signal, not a tolerance problem. If you also want one machine that travels to your listings, the Vaayu at ₹11,999 is a fair buy for that reason and not for coverage. One line: 500 sq ft is about 128m³, so a Sukoon at ₹1,899 or a Megh at ₹3,499 with a register from ₹299 is the honest buy - the Vaayu at ₹11,999 only if it also travels to your listings. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

The arithmetic, and why a Vaayu is probably the wrong buy here
The volume arithmetic done properly, why proximity rather than capacity is what ruins small offices, and the two cases where a bigger machine is still the right call.
Why this works
Right-sizing a 500 sq ft office instead of over-buying
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
Coverage ratings are given in volume, not floor area, and small offices are where that distinction saves you the most money. Take the two ends of a realistic two-cabin brokerage. A 450 sq ft unit with a 9 ft ceiling holds 4,050 cubic feet, which divided by 35.3 is about 115 cubic metres. A generous 650 sq ft unit with a 10 ft ceiling holds 6,500 cubic feet, about 184 cubic metres. A typical figure of 500 sq ft at 9 ft sits at 4,500 cubic feet, about 128 cubic metres. Now set that against the ratings: the SOSA Vaayu is built for around 1000 cubic metres of connected air, and SOSA's own copy puts one unit at 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. Your office is between a tenth and a fifth of that. This is not a marginal over-specification that gives you useful headroom, which is a fair argument in a 1,200 sq ft office where the space is irregular and doors keep opening. At 128 cubic metres it is a different machine for a different building. The practical consequence is not that a Vaayu would fail in a small office - it would work perfectly well at its lowest setting - but that you would be paying eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety nine rupees for capacity you will spend the next two years deliberately not using, and paying it instead of solving the problem the room actually has.
Tip: a 500 sq ft office is about 128 cubic metres against a rating of around 1000 - that is not headroom, it is a different building.
2
The real failure
In a small office the enemy is proximity, not capacity
Every overscented small office we have ever been asked to diagnose failed the same way, and it was never because the machine was too small. In a 500 sq ft unit the distance from wherever the machine sits to the nearest human head is usually under two metres, and that head belongs to somebody who is there for eight hours a day, six days a week. What happens next is a familiar sequence. The machine goes on the reception desk or the pantry counter because that is where the socket is. The person sitting closest starts finding it strong within a week and does not say anything, because it is the boss's new purchase. Meanwhile the far cabin still smells of nothing much, so somebody turns the output up to fix the far corner - which does very little for the far corner and a great deal to the person sitting a metre away. Two months later everyone has adapted, the setting has crept up twice more, and a visitor walks in and immediately notices. The fix is geometric rather than commercial. Put the source at least two metres from any occupied seat, out of the direct throw of the air-conditioner and out of the doorway draught, ideally high and to one side so the room distributes rather than the machine projecting. Then set the level for the person nearest it, not for the furthest corner, and accept that a small office will always be slightly uneven - which nobody notices, because people move around.
3
The exceptions
Two honest reasons to buy the bigger machine anyway
There are two, and both are about something other than covering your floor plate. The first is dual use, which is the strongest argument in this bank for a small brokerage buying a Vaayu at ₹11,999. It installs freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, runs on DC 12V at 1A - just 5W - and is waterless, which means it can be lifted off the office shelf on a Saturday morning, stood on the entrance console of a premium listing, and run before the buyer arrives without adding a drop of moisture to a closed flat with marble, fresh paint or wooden flooring. It needs a working socket at the property, which is a real constraint in a vacant unit with the power disconnected, but if you show premium listings regularly the machine is doing two jobs for one price. The second is a second branch. If you are opening or already running another office and want both on one identical register at one locked setting, buying at the higher tier makes the consistency question much easier to manage than trying to match drop counts across two ultrasonics by hand. Outside those two cases, a Sukoon at ₹1,899 or a Megh at ₹3,499 running a register from ₹299 is the right answer, and we would rather write that down than sell you the larger box. One honest caveat on the ultrasonics: they work by putting water into the air, so in a small closed unit during a coastal monsoon you may prefer shorter cycles - and if humidity matters more to you than the price difference, that is a legitimate reason to go waterless.
Tip: buy the bigger machine for portability or for a second branch - never because 128 cubic metres needs it.
The SOSA principle
The question is not whether a bigger machine would work in a small office. It would. The question is whether you want to spend eleven thousand rupees on capacity you will then spend two years deliberately not using.
128 cubic metres of connected air, a source kept two metres from the nearest desk, a locked low setting, and a reed behind each closed cabin door.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.
Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
My two cabins have glass partitions and the doors are always open. Is that one volume or three?
With the doors genuinely open it behaves as close to one connected volume, and a single source in the open area will reach them, unevenly but adequately. The moment a door shuts - for a call, a negotiation, a private conversation, which in a brokerage is most of the working day - that cabin becomes its own sealed volume of roughly 40 to 60 cubic metres and nothing in the main room can reach it. This is the connected-volume rule and it defeats every coverage rating ever printed. The practical answer is not a bigger machine in the open area, because a shut door is not a distance problem. It is a reed diffuser from Rs 749 in each cabin: no power, no noise, nothing to schedule, no setting for anyone to adjust, and it keeps working whether the door is open or closed. Reeds last around six to ten weeks depending on the room, and a 130ml size from Rs 1,249 suits a cabin that is used all day.
Would a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 be better even if it is oversized?
Better at what is the question worth asking. It would produce an even level across a small office at a very low setting, and it is waterless, which in a humid coastal city is a genuine advantage. What it would not do is solve anything that a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 fails to solve in 128 cubic metres, because the problem in a room this size is placement and calibration rather than output. So the answer depends entirely on whether you have a second use for it. If you show premium listings and would carry it to a viewing, or you are running or opening a second branch and want both offices on one identical setting, buy it and use it properly. If it is going to sit on one shelf in one small office for the next five years at its lowest setting, you have bought capacity rather than a result.
Should the two cabins smell different from the open area?
No. In an office this small a client walks from the door to a cabin in about eight seconds, and two different characters over that distance produce a collision rather than a sequence. Run one register everywhere it is used at all, and vary the level rather than the scent - lower in an enclosed cabin, which has no air exchange, than in the open area. The one place you can legitimately differ is the washroom, which people mentally grant separate status: a reed from Rs 749 there does not need to match anything. Consistency across the rest is most of the effect, and it is also what makes the fragrance stop being noticeable, which is the goal in a permanent workspace where the same four people breathe it all week.
Our office gets very humid in the monsoon. Does an ultrasonic make that worse?
It adds moisture to the air, which is how the technology works, and in a small closed unit on a wet coastal day you may notice it. It is not a reason to avoid an ultrasonic entirely - a great many small offices run one happily through a Mumbai July - but it is a reason to run shorter cycles rather than continuous output during the monsoon months, to keep the machine away from paper and files, and to make sure the room actually gets aired at some point in the day. If humidity is the thing that genuinely bothers you about your office, then waterless is the right format and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 becomes a defensible purchase on those grounds rather than on coverage. That is a real trade-off with money on both sides of it, and it is your call rather than ours.
How do I stop the setting creeping up over the months?
Write it down and take it out of daily hands. Olfactory adaptation means that within a fortnight the four people who work there genuinely cannot smell the register any more, conclude the machine has stopped working, and turn it up - and then repeat that six weeks later from the new baseline. This is how every overscented small office in the country got that way, and none of them did it deliberately. Three defences work. Record the setting or the drop count on paper and make one person responsible for it. Judge the room only from the doorway on a Monday morning after being outside, never from your desk in the afternoon. And take any comment from a visitor, or any sensitivity report from your own team, as a signal to come down rather than as an argument to have. If the fragrance has become invisible to the people who work there, the system is working correctly.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively.
