Why not a machine for a home office? Because a closed door sits outside a machine's field, and a small sealed room over-scents very easily.
Does home fragrance help concentration? We make no such claim. There are no focus, productivity or wellbeing claims attached to anything here.
In these households one room is occupied all day
Occupancy is the thing nobody accounts for when buying a home gift, and in households built around remote or hybrid work it is unusual enough to change the answer completely. Picture an ordinary weekday. From about nine in the morning one room is in continuous use with the door closed - a study, a spare bedroom converted, a corner of a guest room with a desk in it - because calls require quiet and the door is the only sound barrier available. The rest of the house is barely occupied: somebody passes through the kitchen, the living room is used at lunch for twenty minutes, and the whole of it comes alive again in the evening. So there are effectively two homes here with different needs, and the smaller one is the one that gets lived in. That inverts the usual recommendation. A whole-home machine distributes a dry mist through the air the house is circulating, and a closed room is disconnected from that circulation by definition - which means the room somebody spends nine hours in is the one place a machine does not reach. It is also, being small, the one place a machine would be badly matched even if the door stood open: the SOSA Vaayu is rated for up to a thousand cubic metres, and a ten by twelve room is a tiny fraction of that, so the outcome would be an over-scented box. A small sealed room is exactly what a reed diffuser is built for. Evaporation into still enclosed air is its entire mechanism, it needs no electricity in a room where every socket is already taken by a monitor, a laptop, a router and a lamp, it makes no noise on a call, and it has no schedule to interact with a working day. There is one placement rule that matters more here than anywhere: do not put it on the desk. A bottle within arm's reach of somebody sitting for eight hours is far too close, and what reads as pleasant when you walk into a room becomes tiring when your face is half a metre from it. Put it across the room, on a shelf or a side table, ideally near the door rather than the window - and in this city away from a west-facing wall or a sunlit sill, because warm surfaces accelerate evaporation and make a bottle read strong in the afternoon and flat by morning. Register choice is worth a moment. Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty is Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus, which reads clean and cool and is the safest choice for a room used all day in a warm climate. Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar - dry, resinous, unsweet, and good in a room with wooden furniture. Fresh Brew at the same is Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla, which suits a study for anybody who likes a warmer room but is the most assertive of the three and wants the smaller bottle. Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine is lavender and chamomile and belongs in the bedroom rather than the work room. Garden Bloom at the same is British rose with night-blooming jasmine and is a living room register. A duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees is the sensible gift for this household, because it covers the work room and the bedroom with different registers, which is exactly the split the occupancy pattern calls for - Fresh and Grounded pairing Morning Freshness with Mountain Breeze at one thousand five hundred and forty-eight and two thousand five hundred and forty-eight is a good combination for a study plus a bedroom. Now the honesty that belongs on a page like this. There is a great deal of marketing in this category built around focus, productivity, alertness, calm and mood, and none of it appears here. We make no claim that any fragrance improves concentration, reduces stress, helps sleep, or affects performance in any way. It is fragrance. A room that smells pleasant is nicer to sit in than a room that smells of nothing or of yesterday's lunch, and that is the whole of the offer. Anybody selling a diffuser as a work-performance tool is overselling it, and this page will not. There is also a genuinely useful non-fragrance point for a room occupied all day with the door shut, and it costs nothing: open it periodically. A small sealed room with a person and a laptop in it gets stale, and the answer to stale is air rather than scent. Opening the door and window for ten minutes between calls, or in the early morning and evening when outside air here is tolerable, does more than any product. That is the fix-the-cause principle applied to a study, and stating it is part of giving honest advice. Two closing notes. If the home itself is genuinely large - roughly two thousand square feet of connected volume and up - then the machine is a good gift for the shared space, and it comes into its own precisely in the evening when the house fills up again: the SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees, waterless with no tank and no humidity added, four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, one, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows with day selection and adjustable intensity, under thirty-eight decibels, five watts, nine hundred grams, freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable, with refills of waterless nebuliser oil from one thousand and forty-nine rupees and never the water-based Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, which is a separate system. And if the flat is new, nothing starts on day one: paint, polish, varnish and new joinery need airing, which in peak summer here means using early mornings and evenings and running fans rather than leaving windows open all day. Fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix.
A closed study is the smallest sealed volume in the house - and the wrong place for a machine

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
