Why is an apartment easier to size than a villa? Because the area is written on the paperwork, the ceiling height is standard, and there is no stairwell moving air between floors.
What carries the mist in a flat? Air conditioning, mostly. In a single-level flat airflow is horizontal, so a machine belongs in the path of the main circulation.
An apartment is the one home whose volume you can know exactly
Apartments are the property type where this decision is easiest, and it is worth saying why, because it makes the advice more reliable rather than less. Three variables that are genuinely uncertain in a villa are settled in a flat. The area is a documented number - carpet area, built-up area and super built-up area are all written down, and the owner has been quoting one of them for two years. The ceiling height is usually uniform across the whole flat and usually close to standard, which means floor area translates into cubic volume predictably rather than having to be estimated room by room. And there is no stairwell, which removes the single biggest wildcard in how air moves through a house. What replaces the stairwell is air conditioning, and that is the useful thing to understand about scenting a flat. In a single-level home the airflow is horizontal: air moves along a corridor, through doorways, and mostly because an air conditioner or a fan is pushing it. There is no vertical chimney effect. A waterless cold-air nebuliser like the SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees works by putting a dry mist into whatever air is already moving, so in a flat its position should follow the circulation rather than the furniture: in the path between the main living space and the corridor, or near an air conditioning return, rather than tucked into a corner behind a sofa where the air is comparatively still. That is a placement fact rather than a claim about anybody's ducting, and it is the single most useful thing to pass on with the gift. The coverage figure does the rest. The Vaayu states up to a thousand cubic metres, which the product puts at roughly two thousand to three thousand square feet. So a large four bedroom flat of two thousand two hundred square feet is squarely inside the range, and a three bedroom of fourteen hundred is squarely outside it - and in the second case reed diffusers are not a compromise, they are the correct product for a home of that volume. This is where apartments produce a cleaner answer than villas: there is no tall room or hidden mezzanine quietly doubling the cubic metres, so the number on the paperwork is usually the whole story. The one exception worth asking about is a duplex or a flat with a double-height living space, which some larger apartments have - in those the volume climbs faster than the area suggests and the machine case strengthens. There is a second feature of large apartments that favours a machine and that villas do not share: open plan. Big flats are very often designed as one continuous living-dining-kitchen space with no doors, precisely because that is what makes a flat feel large. A single volume of that kind cannot be scented room by room - there are no rooms - so a bottle on a console is being asked to handle the whole envelope, which is exactly the situation that produces the complaint that home fragrance does not work in this house. One machine in the circulation path handles it at one strength, and the adjustable intensity on the Bluetooth app lets the output be matched to the volume rather than left at maximum, which is the commonest mistake. The timers - one, four, eight and twenty-four hour run windows with day selection - mean it can be scented for the evening rather than continuously, which in a flat with recirculated air is both fresher and cheaper in consumables. Three further properties matter in a flat specifically. It is waterless, so it adds no humidity, which in a closed air-conditioned flat in a coastal city is a real consideration and the reason many people abandon ultrasonic diffusers. It runs under thirty-eight decibels, which matters more in a flat than a villa because flats are acoustically tighter and a hum in a corridor is noticeable. And it is small - one hundred and sixty-five by eighty by two hundred and fifteen millimetres, nine hundred grams, black or white - which matters when wall space is at a premium and it may need to sit on a shelf rather than be mounted. It ships with four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, so it works the evening it is opened, and refills afterwards are the waterless nebuliser oils at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred - not the water-based Hotel Collection, which is a separate system for ultrasonic machines. Below two thousand square feet the honest answer is reed diffusers, and for a flat the placement advice is different from a villa's: put them where the air is calm rather than where it moves, because a diffuser in the direct path of an air conditioner evaporates far faster and unevenly. Morning Freshness is seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty; Garden Bloom and Evening Calm are seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine; Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew are eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine. A duo set from one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight rupees lets the bedroom and the living room differ. Two closing notes. A new flat smells of paint, varnish, polish and new joinery for several weeks, and in a flat that airs less freely than a villa it can take longer - so open windows on opposite sides for as long as it takes, and start the scenting afterwards. And if there is a griha pravesh, keep the gift separate: a house ceremony is a religious occasion and nothing here is a religious item or carries ritual significance. Fragrance is a finishing touch, never a fix.
The figure is on the sale deed, and there is no stairwell to complicate it
Known volume, horizontal airflow, one clean answer.

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
