The question behind this page is almost always the same complaint, phrased as a defect: the reed works fine at reception, but you can't smell it from across the clinic. It isn't a fault. It's what a reed diffuser's reach was always going to be, and no bottle size changes that.
Quick answers — read this first
Why can't my reed diffuser be smelled across the clinic? Because a reed diffuser's reach is set by the exposed surface area of the reeds and the air movement around them - not by how much liquid is in the bottle. A 50ml and a 130ml bottle of the same fragrance throw scent about the same distance; the larger one simply lasts longer before it needs replacing.

Won't a bigger bottle or a refill fix it? No. Even the 300ml and 500ml oil refills are a duration decision, not a reach one. A useful real-world proof: SOSA Megh, a 6-litre ultrasonic machine, covers about 215 sq ft - less floor than the smaller SOSA Sukoon - because reservoir size and reach are simply different variables.

What actually extends reach? More exposed reed surface (more reeds, or flipping them more often), better placement in the airflow, or moving to an active machine like a Sukoon or Vaayu, which drives air rather than relying on passive diffusion.
The short answer
Short answer: a reed's reach is set by exposed reed surface area and airflow, not reservoir size. Buying a bigger bottle extends how long it lasts, never how far it's smelled.
The pick: reposition the reeds and check the airflow first; move to a SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) only once you've confirmed reach, not duration, is the actual problem.
Next step: tell us the distance between where it works and where it doesn't - ask for a clinic scenting plan.

Straight answer
My Reed Diffuser Works at Reception but Can't Be Smelled Across the Clinic — Why?
A reed diffuser works by capillary action and evaporation: liquid travels up the exposed length of each reed and evaporates from its surface into the surrounding air. The rate that reaches your nose depends on the total surface area doing that evaporating - the number of reeds, how much of each is exposed above the liquid, and how much air is moving across them - not on how many millilitres are sitting in the bottle beneath them. That is the entire explanation for the complaint behind this page: a reed that works perfectly at reception and disappears a few metres away isn't underpowered or faulty. It's doing exactly what a fixed surface area was always going to do, and it will keep doing it whether the bottle holds 50ml or 500ml.

Compare the two SOSA reed sizes directly. Morning Freshness at 50ml, ₹749, and at 130ml, ₹1,249, use the same six fibre reeds and the same base composition. The difference between them is entirely about duration - 6-8 weeks against 14-18 weeks - because the larger bottle simply holds more liquid for those same reeds to draw from over a longer period. Neither bottle throws scent one centimetre further than the other on day one, because the reeds, not the reservoir, are doing the diffusing. The same logic applies to the 300ml and 500ml oil refills: bigger container, longer interval between changes, identical reach.

There's a cleaner proof of this than reeds, and it comes from SOSA's own machine range. SOSA Megh is a 6-litre ultrasonic diffuser - a genuinely large reservoir by any comparison - and it is rated to cover about 215 sq ft. The much smaller SOSA Sukoon covers 270-320 sq ft from a reservoir a fraction of that size. If reservoir size determined reach, the relationship would run the other way. It doesn't, because Megh is built as a runtime machine - a large tank that runs a long time between refills - while Sukoon is tuned for coverage. Reservoir size buys time between refills. Coverage is a separate engineering decision entirely, and conflating the two is the single most common mistake behind the 'my reed doesn't reach' complaint.

So what actually changes reach? Three things, roughly in order of how cheap they are to try. First, exposed surface area: flipping the reeds more often refreshes the evaporating surface, and in some cases adding a second small vessel at a second point does more than doubling the liquid in one bottle ever could. Second, placement and airflow: a reed near a doorway, an AC supply vent or a ceiling fan reaches further because moving air carries evaporated fragrance rather than letting it sit in a static pocket around the bottle - which is also why a corridor plan with two points beats one stronger bottle at a single point. Third, and only once the first two have genuinely been tried, an active machine like a Sukoon or Vaayu drives air mechanically rather than relying on passive evaporation, which is a real, different mechanism and the honest reason it reaches further than any reed can. That's a machine decision, made on its own merits, not a reed you've simply outgrown by buying the wrong size the first time. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and tell us the actual distance between where it works and where it stops; we'll tell you honestly whether that's a placement fix or a genuine machine decision.
A reed's reach is set by exposed reed surface area and airflow, not reservoir size - a 50ml and a 130ml bottle throw scent the same distance, just for different lengths of time. Even SOSA Megh's 6-litre reservoir covers less floor than the smaller Sukoon, because reservoir and reach are different variables entirely.
Before buying a bigger bottle, try flipping the reeds and moving them into moving air - a doorway or a fan's path. If reach genuinely doesn't improve, that's a placement finding worth acting on before any purchase.

What actually changes reach

Not a bigger bottle. Here is what genuinely moves the needle, in the order it's worth trying.

SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser
Same reach, better placement
SOSA Mountain Breeze
Mountain Breeze, pine, sage and Indian cedar - six fibre reeds, exactly the same reach mechanics as any SOSA reed. Moving it into a doorway's airflow or flipping the reeds more often changes reach; the bottle size chosen only changes how often you do that. ₹849 for 50ml, ₹1,349 for 130ml.
From ₹849
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser
The actual fix once placement has been tried
SOSA Sukoon
An ultrasonic diffuser that actively drives air, covering about 270-320 sq ft - a genuinely different mechanism from passive reed evaporation, and the honest reason it reaches further. ₹1,899.
From ₹1,899
SOSA Megh 6 litre ultrasonic diffuser
A real example: reservoir size and reach are different variables
SOSA Megh
A 6-litre ultrasonic reservoir - genuinely large - rated to cover about 215 sq ft. Built as a runtime machine: it runs a long time between refills, which is a different engineering goal from covering a wide floor. Never presented here as a coverage upgrade over the smaller Sukoon, because it covers less.

The three things people confuse with reach

None of these three is actually the reach lever, though all three feel like they should be.

1
Bottle size
50ml and 130ml throw scent the same distance
The only variable a larger reed bottle changes is how many weeks pass before it needs replacing - 6-8 weeks against 14-18 weeks for SOSA's reed sizes. The reeds themselves, and the surface area they expose, are identical regardless of what's in the reservoir beneath them, so reach is identical too.
Tip: if you're buying a bigger bottle to solve a reach complaint, you're solving the wrong variable - buy it only for less frequent refills.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser
Morning Freshness reaches the same distance at 50ml as at 130ml - only the refill interval changes.
See Morning Freshness →
2
Reservoir size on a machine
Even a 6-litre tank doesn't guarantee more reach
SOSA Megh's 6-litre reservoir covers about 215 sq ft - less than the considerably smaller SOSA Sukoon's 270-320 sq ft. A larger tank is an engineering decision about runtime between refills, not a promise of wider throw; the two variables are set independently by the manufacturer for different goals.
Tip: check a machine's actual rated coverage figure, not its tank size, before assuming bigger means further.
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser
The Sukoon's smaller reservoir still out-covers Megh's larger one - proof reservoir and reach are separate.
See SOSA Sukoon →
3
Fragrance concentration or 'strength'
The register isn't the reach lever either
Switching to a fragrance that reads as more intense at close range doesn't extend how far it travels - it changes what's noticeable near the source, which can tip a room from pleasant to overpowering at reception without adding a centimetre of reach at the far end. Reach and perceived strength are governed by different mechanics.
Tip: if reception now smells stronger but the far corner is still empty, you've changed intensity, not reach.
SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser
Mountain Breeze at the same intensity, moved to better airflow, reaches further than a stronger bottle left in a dead corner.
See Mountain Breeze →
The SOSA principle
A reed is a volume control, never a range control. A bigger bottle buys months, not metres.
Reach comes from exposed surface area and airflow. Duration comes from reservoir size. They are not the same dial.
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser
The genuine reach upgrade: SOSA Sukoon, ₹1,899 - an active machine, not a bigger reed bottle.

Reach, worked through by product

Every SOSA product, and what actually determines how far it reaches.

The SOSA plan
What determines reach, product by product
Product What sets its reach What its size actually buys
Morning Freshness reed Exposed reed surface area and airflow 50ml vs 130ml changes duration (6-8 vs 14-18 weeks), not reach
Reed oil refills (300ml / 500ml) The reeds and glass they're poured into, not the refill bottle A longer interval between top-ups, nothing more
SOSA Megh (6L reservoir) Ultrasonic output tuned for runtime, rated to about 215 sq ft A long interval between refills - it covers less floor than the smaller Sukoon
SOSA Sukoon Ultrasonic output tuned for coverage, rated to 270-320 sq ft An off switch and a genuinely wider reach than any reed

The same overlap-and-gradient physics, applied to machines instead of reeds, is worked through in one scent machine or multiple fragrance zones for a large clinic, and placement near AC supply and return vents is covered in how does AC airflow affect fragrance distribution. SOSA makes no claim that scenting affects bookings, retention or spend.

Don't buy a bigger bottle to fix a reach problem
Tell us the distance between where the reed works and where it stops - we'll say honestly whether it's placement or a machine decision.

A bigger bottle has never once bought a reed diffuser an extra metre of reach. It only buys you fewer trips to replace it.

Fragrance here is an interior and hospitality decision like lighting or seating, with no health, therapeutic or wellbeing claim of any kind. It works alongside cleaning, laundry and ventilation, never instead of them. Whether a treatment room carries any scent is the practitioner's decision, staff must be able to switch it off in seconds, and if a client asks for it to be reduced or turned off, that is the answer. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and we will size your actual floor plan rather than guess at it.

A note from Sonal

Someone once returned a 130ml bottle asking for a refund, convinced it was faulty because it "didn't reach any further" than the 50ml one they'd tried first. Both were the exact same reeds in the exact same glass, just with more liquid in the larger one. There was nothing to refund and nothing broken - the bottle had simply never been capable of the thing they expected it to do.

I explained it the way I've explained it in this piece: reach comes from the reeds, not the reservoir. They asked, reasonably, why we even sell a 130ml size if it doesn't reach further. Because it lasts longer - fourteen to eighteen weeks instead of six to eight - which is worth paying for on its own, just not for the reason they'd assumed. Once they understood that, the actual fix was simple: move the bottle from a shelf behind the desk into the doorway's airflow, and it reached the waiting area within a day.

Fragrance is an ambience decision, like lighting or seating. It sits alongside your cleaning, laundry and ventilation and never replaces them. Whether a treatment room is scented at all is yours to decide, and if a client asks you to turn it off, turn it off. Frequently asked questions

Why does my reed diffuser work at reception but can't be smelled across the clinic?
Because a reed diffuser's reach is set by the exposed surface area of the reeds and the air movement around them, not by how much liquid is in the bottle. It's doing exactly what a fixed surface area was always going to do - it isn't faulty or underpowered.
Will a 130ml bottle reach further than a 50ml one?
No. Both sizes of Morning Freshness use the same six reeds and reach the same distance; the larger bottle only lasts longer between replacements - 14-18 weeks against 6-8 weeks.
Does a bigger reservoir on a machine mean more coverage?
Not necessarily. SOSA Megh has a 6-litre reservoir and covers about 215 sq ft - less than the considerably smaller SOSA Sukoon, which covers 270-320 sq ft. Reservoir size and coverage are set independently for different goals.
What actually extends a reed diffuser's reach?
Flipping the reeds more often, adding a second point in a different part of the space, and moving the bottle into moving air near a doorway or fan - all before considering a bigger bottle, which changes nothing about reach.
When should I move from a reed to a machine for reach?
Once placement and airflow genuinely haven't solved it. A SOSA Sukoon drives air mechanically rather than relying on passive evaporation, which is a real, different mechanism and the honest reason it reaches further than any reed size can.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free compositions on a heat-stable coconut-derived base, supplied in a refillable glass bottle with six fibre reeds, flipped weekly, with 50ml lasting 6-8 weeks and 130ml lasting 14-18 weeks, tested at 45°C and 85% relative humidity - Morning Freshness ₹749 / ₹1,249, Mountain Breeze ₹849 / ₹1,349. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering about 270-320 sq ft for 16-18 hours on the low setting and supplied with three 15ml Hotel Collection fragrances; being ultrasonic, it works by aerosolising water and therefore adds some moisture to the air. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - which are electrical and compliance marks, not medical approval. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment; refill availability should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Megh (₹3,499) is a 6-litre ultrasonic diffuser rated to approximately 215 sq ft; being a larger reservoir, it extends run time between refills rather than the distance the fragrance is carried, and it covers less floor area than the smaller Sukoon. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir and operation under 42dB. SOSA products are not medical devices and no health, therapeutic or wellbeing claim is made or implied anywhere in this guide; ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision that works alongside cleaning, laundry, ventilation and hygiene protocol and is never a substitute for any of them. Infection control, linen protocol and HVAC standards are matters for the practitioner and the facilities engineer.
