There is a difference between a fragrance being good and a fragrance reaching you, and almost nobody is told what it is. When someone writes to me and says the reed diffuser smells wonderful up close but they cannot smell it from the bed, my first answer is always the same: nothing is wrong, and you did not buy the wrong thing. A reed diffuser is a passive object. It holds oil, the reeds draw it up, the room's warmth and air take it away at their own pace. It has no way of carrying scent to you, and it was never built to.
So the real question is not which fragrance is stronger. It is which job you want done. If you want a quiet, pleasant presence in the corner of a bathroom or beside a bed, a reed is still the most elegant thing I sell, and I would rather you kept it than replaced it. If you want the whole room to smell of something when you walk in, that needs a machine that actively moves scent into the air, and the honest first step there is one of our ultrasonics, which costs less than our waterless diffuser does. If you want it strong and true right where you sit or sleep, with no water and no dilution, that is the Safar. And if your living space is genuinely large or open-plan, that is the Vaayu, which I will happily tell you is far too much machine for a 10 by 12 bedroom.

Which of the seven registers is the most hotel-like?
All seven are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, so the honest answer is that it depends on which kind of hotel you are picturing, and we will describe character rather than rank them. If you mean the hushed lobby of a grand city hotel, the Ritz-Carlton-inspired register of white tea, bergamot and cedar is that mood, and the Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity of white tea, aloe and cedar is its serene spa cousin. If you mean a resort with a lot of wood and greenery, the 1 Hotels-inspired blend of cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves is that world. If you mean an evening lounge, the St. Regis-inspired amber, violet and woods is the plush one. For bright, polished daytime hospitality, Four Seasons-inspired citrus, florals and sandalwood; for a tea-and-jasmine signature, Shangri-La-inspired; and for something bold and playful, W Hotels-inspired citrus, pepper and amber. Which one should I buy if I cannot smell them first?
Either take the safest blind buy or remove the guess entirely. The safest blind buys are the two clean, airy white-tea registers - Westin-inspired and Ritz-Carlton-inspired - because almost nobody dislikes them and they are easy to live with every day, which matters far more than drama when the whole point is a level you hold for months. If you would rather not gamble at all, the Pack of 7 in 15ml at Rs 1,799 gives you every register, which works out cheaper than buying seven singles at Rs 299 and lets you find your signature by living with each one rather than sniffing a bottle. A Boond at Rs 899 with that pack comes to Rs 2,698 for a complete starting setup. None of the seven is a gourmand, so if sweetness is what you are avoiding, you are safe across the whole range and 1 Hotels and Westin are the driest of them.
Is a hotel-style scent appropriate in a home with cooking smells?
It is, provided you get the order right, and this is where most attempts go wrong. Fragrance layers on top of whatever the air already holds - it does not remove or mask anything, and a strong blend over lingering cooking smells produces a confused result rather than a hotel one. So handle the practical air first: exhaust running while and after you cook, a lid on the bin, the shoe cabinet dealt with, windows open for a while each day. Then set a low constant register in the room you want to feel finished, which in most Indian homes is the living room and the entrance rather than the kitchen. And run the fragrance on a schedule that avoids peak cooking hours, which a timer makes effortless. What you will notice is that a low level over genuinely clean air smells considerably more expensive than a high level over average air, which is the entire hotel trick in one sentence.
Do I need the Aangan, or will a Vaayu do?
It comes down to whether your home has central air-conditioning and how big the volume is. The Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is a free-standing waterless cold-air machine for approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected volume, with a Bluetooth app and timer, and for the great majority of Indian homes it is the right ceiling - a living, dining and kitchen sharing one volume, an entrance opening into a hall, a floor without dividing doors. The Aangan at Rs 25,999 is a different proposition: it nebulises into central air-conditioning ducting and is rated for approximately 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft, so it is for a villa, a large duplex or a bungalow that genuinely has ducted central air and wants one signature in every room the ducts reach, including the floors above. If your flat runs split ACs in each room, the Aangan has nothing to duct into and the Vaayu or a couple of ultrasonics is the honest answer. Can I get this effect with reed diffusers if I put one in every room?
You will get something pleasant, but not the hotel effect, and it is worth being clear why before you spend. A reed diffuser is passive - oil climbs the sticks and evaporates at whatever rate each room's warmth and airflow allow, with nothing carrying it outward - so each bottle gives you lovely ambience beside where it stands and thins from there. Put five around a home and you have five good corners and unchanged air in between, and each of them will read at a different strength because each room is a different temperature with different airflow, which is precisely the inconsistency a hotel is avoiding. You also cannot time a reed or set it to a level; it simply runs, strongest in its first days and quieter later, for about six to ten weeks. Reeds from Rs 749 are the right product for a guest bathroom, a study or a bedside. For one steady register across a room or a floor, that needs an active machine on a timer.
