"How much should I spend?" is a question nobody in this industry answers with a number, and that is a failure of nerve rather than a genuine difficulty. The cheapest correct first purchase

Two bottles rather than one, because output per bottle is fixed and the only way to raise the total in a room is another source. Morning Freshness at 9.0 on our internal scale and Mountain Breeze at 9.4, which meet on green eucalyptus — two scents sharing a note is what stops an open living-dining developing a seam down the middle. Put them at opposite ends rather than together. Both are alcohol-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free on a heat-stable coconut-derived CCT base, six fibre reeds each, 6–8 weeks per 50ml. The 2 × 130ml version at ₹2,548 runs 14–18 weeks instead, which is the version to buy if you would rather think about it three times a year than eight.
Part one — three things to settle before a budget can exist
A budget is a consequence of three measurements, and every one of them is free. People skip them and then ask a price question that has no answer, because "large home" describes a floor area while scenting is a problem of connected air, closed doors and moving windows. Fifteen minutes with a tape measure will move your budget by thousands of rupees in one direction or the other, and it is the only part of this page I would insist on.

MEASUREMENT ONE
The connected volume, in cubic metres
Multiply the floor area of the largest space that has no doors inside it by its ceiling height, then divide cubic feet by 35.3. A 700 sq ft living-dining at 10 ft is 7,000 cubic feet, about 198m³. The same 700 sq ft under an 18 ft void is 12,600 cubic feet, about 357m³ — the same plan drawing, nearly twice the air. Under roughly 300 sq ft of connected open space, two reed diffusers are the whole answer and tier one is your tier. Between 300 and 800, tier two or three. Approaching 1000m³, tier four becomes the only single-unit answer, because that is the Vaayu's stated ceiling and nothing below it in the range comes close.
The conversion: cubic feet ÷ 35.3 = cubic metres. Do it once, and the tier chooses itself.

MEASUREMENT THREE
Whether you want scent constantly or on demand
This is the one that decides whether you pay for a machine at all, and it is not a question about size. A reed diffuser is constant, passive and deliberately low — no fan, no heat, no switch. It cannot be turned up before people arrive and it cannot be turned off during dinner. If what you want is a room that changes when you want it to, that capability costs ₹1,899 at the Sukoon and ₹11,999 at the Vaayu, and no quantity of bottles buys it. If you are happy with a constant low background — which is what most homes actually want most of the time — tier two is complete as it stands and the machine money stays in your pocket.

The SOSA principle
Budget the second year at the same time as the first.
Every tier on this page has a running cost attached, and in three of the four it is larger than people expect. A plan that only covers day one is not a budget; it is a shopping list.
Part three — the second budget, the one nobody writes down
Here is the arithmetic that changes people's tier choice more often than the purchase price does. A reed position rebought as fresh bottles is the most expensive way to run a house. A 50ml lasts six to eight weeks, so at a seven-week midpoint that is 52 ÷ 7 ≈ 7 bottles a year — about ₹5,593 at ₹799 each, for one position. A 130ml lasts 14 to 18 weeks, so 52 ÷ 16 = 3.25 bottles a year, roughly ₹4,222 at ₹1,299. And on oil-only refills, where you keep the glass vessel you already own, a 500ml at ₹3,499 runs a position for 14 to 18 months: ₹3,499 ÷ 16 × 12 = ₹2,624 a year. Three ways to run one bottle, and the gap between the dearest and the cheapest is more than twice.
Applied to the tiers: tier one's three 50ml positions rebought as bottles is roughly ₹16,779 a year, which is more than tier four costs to buy. Tier two's five positions on 500ml refills is ₹2,624 × 5 = ₹13,120 a year. Tier three adds the water-based Hotel Collection for the Sukoon, priced at ₹1,799 ÷ 300 = ₹6.00 per millilitre on the largest bottle against ₹19.93 on the 15ml — how many millilitres a household gets through is a matter of how hard you run it and how often, and I am not going to invent a figure for your usage. Tier four adds the Vaayu's electricity, which is knowable: 5W run continuously is 0.12 units a day and 43.8 units a year, roughly ₹350 at an illustrative ₹8 per unit, with state tariffs varying and no bill being quoted.
And tier four's fragrance line has no figure at all, which I want to state here rather than bury in a footnote. The machine arrives with 400ml — one full tank, specified at 90+ days — and SOSA does not currently sell a separate Vaayu refill oil. So when you budget tier four, budget it as ₹18,544 for the setup and one quarter of fragrance, and then a supply question to ask us directly. For a buyer scenting a defined stretch — a wedding season, three months of guests, a house occupied part of the year — that may be exactly right. For a buyer who wants a signature scent running continuously for two years, it is a genuine reason to wait until you have an answer. Both of those readers deserve to know before they spend, not after.

Honest notes for buyers: every total here is arithmetic on verified August 2026 prices, and the kits are illustrative shopping lists rather than fixed bundles — swap scents freely, since the prices differ by at most ₹100. Reed durations (50ml 6–8 weeks, 130ml 14–18 weeks) and refill durations (300ml 8–11 months, 500ml 14–18 months) are SOSA's own working guidance and vary with reed count, room volume, ventilation and season, so the per-year figures move with them. Strength ratings are positions on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, not an industry standard and not a concentration. Replacement reeds are not sold separately — refresh them every few months. The three oils are not interchangeable: reed oil in reed bottles, the water-based Hotel Collection in ultrasonic machines, undiluted cold-air oil in a Vaayu. SOSA does not currently sell a separate Vaayu refill oil; the 400ml in the box is today's whole supply, and buyers who need continuity should confirm the position with SOSA before ordering. The Megh at ₹3,499 covers about 215 sq ft, less than the ₹1,899 Sukoon, and is a runtime and humidity machine. Vaayu electricity is computed from its stated 5W at an illustrative tariff; tariffs vary by state and no bill is quoted. The line that halves the second year

Whichever tier you choose, this is where the running budget is won. Oil alone — you keep the glass vessels — at ₹2,399 ÷ 300 = ₹8.00 per millilitre, or ₹3,499 ÷ 500 = ₹7.00 on the larger size, against ₹15.98 per millilitre for a fresh 50ml bottle. A 300ml runs one position about 8 to 11 months; a 500ml runs it 14 to 18. Across tier two's five positions that is the difference between roughly ₹21,110 a year rebuying 130ml bottles and ₹13,120 a year on 500ml refills — arithmetic, and worth about ₹8,000. What every house shares is that the person buying has no idea whether the correct answer is two thousand rupees or twenty thousand, and leaving them to guess is not neutrality, it is unhelpfulness dressed up as caution. So the tiers are here, with their sums shown, and you can move them by a bottle in either direction.
If I had to guess where a reader of this page belongs, I would say tier two or three, and I would say it about four homes in five. Five 130ml bottles at ₹6,545, one behind every door that closes, plus a Sukoon at ₹1,899 in the room you actually host in — that is a very well-scented large house, and the money left over is considerable. Tier four earns its place when the connected volume genuinely approaches what it is built for, and not before.
The last thing, said here as it is said on every page in this cluster: we do not currently sell a separate refill oil for the Vaayu. The 400ml in the box is the supply that exists today. If your plan depends on running one scent continuously for years, ask us where we stand before you budget for tier four rather than afterwards. Two sources beat one because output per bottle is fixed, and those two scents share a green eucalyptus note, so they meet without a seam. Add Garden Bloom at ₹799 for the entrance and you are at ₹2,347.
What is the yearly running cost after the first purchase?
On oil-only refills, ₹3,499 ÷ 16 months × 12 = ₹2,624 per reed position per year, so five positions is ₹13,120. Rebuying 130ml bottles instead is 52 ÷ 16 = 3.25 bottles a year, about ₹4,222 per position. Rebuying 50ml bottles is roughly seven a year, about ₹5,593. The Vaayu's electricity is about ₹350 a year at 5W run continuously on an illustrative tariff; its fragrance cost beyond the 400ml in the box cannot be quoted.
Is the ₹18,544 tier worth it for a normal large house?
Usually not. The Vaayu is specified up to 1000m³, about 2,000–3,000 sq ft, and if your connected volume is 200m³ you are buying five times the reach you can use. Below roughly 800 sq ft of connected space, tier three at ₹8,444 will make you happier for less than half the money. Tier four earns itself on genuinely large open floors — and only once you have asked SOSA about refill availability.
Should I put the budget into one big machine or several small sources?
Several small sources first, always, because a closed door is a wall and no machine reaches behind one. Every kit above spends most of its money on reed diffusers for exactly that reason. The machine question is separate and is really about the one connected space you host in: whether you want it constant, which reeds do, or on demand, which only a machine does.
