There is a difference between a fragrance being good and a fragrance reaching you, and almost nobody is told what it is. When someone writes to me and says the reed diffuser smells wonderful up close but they cannot smell it from the bed, my first answer is always the same: nothing is wrong, and you did not buy the wrong thing. A reed diffuser is a passive object. It holds oil, the reeds draw it up, the room's warmth and air take it away at their own pace. It has no way of carrying scent to you, and it was never built to.
So the real question is not which fragrance is stronger. It is which job you want done. If you want a quiet, pleasant presence in the corner of a bathroom or beside a bed, a reed is still the most elegant thing I sell, and I would rather you kept it than replaced it. If you want the whole room to smell of something when you walk in, that needs a machine that actively moves scent into the air, and the honest first step there is one of our ultrasonics, which costs less than our waterless diffuser does. If you want it strong and true right where you sit or sleep, with no water and no dilution, that is the Safar. And if your living space is genuinely large or open-plan, that is the Vaayu, which I will happily tell you is far too much machine for a 10 by 12 bedroom.

Frequently asked questions
Should I sell or throw away my reed diffuser when I upgrade?
Neither, and please do not. The reed is not being replaced, it is being relocated to the job it is genuinely best at. Once an active machine is handling the room, the reed becomes the right product for a guest bathroom, a study, a small entrance console, a puja room or the bedside itself, where quiet ambience beside where it stands is exactly what you want and no power, no noise and no maintenance is a real advantage. Plenty of homes run both permanently and never think about it again: a machine for the room's overall register, a reed for a corner that wants something of its own. If your bottle still has oil in it, move it to the smallest, most enclosed room you have and it will perform better there than it ever did in the bedroom, which is a satisfying way to finish a bottle.
Can I skip the ultrasonic and go straight to the Vaayu?
You can, and for some homes it is the correct decision, but do the volume sum before you decide because the difference is not marginal. The Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is built for approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected volume. A 10 by 12 bedroom is 120 sq ft, which at a 10 ft ceiling is 1,200 cubic feet or about 34 cubic metres. A 150 sq ft bedroom is 1,500 cubic feet, about 42 cubic metres. Even a generous 250 sq ft sitting room is 2,500 cubic feet, about 71 cubic metres. Buying a Vaayu for any one of those is buying a great deal of machine you will never call on, and we would tell you so on WhatsApp rather than take the order. Where skipping straight to it is right is a home where living, dining, kitchen and passage are one volume with no doors, or a floor you want to smell the same throughout. Then it is the honest answer and an ultrasonic would be the false economy.
Would two ultrasonics in different rooms be better than one big machine?
For a home with real doors between its rooms, very often yes, and it is worth considering before you look at anything expensive. Two Boonds at Rs 899 each is Rs 1,798, and with two 15ml Hotel Collection bottles at Rs 299 each that is Rs 2,396 for two separately controlled rooms - which is still less than the Safar at Rs 3,999 and far less than the Vaayu. The advantage is that each room gets its own machine, its own level and its own schedule, and a closed door means each one is only asked to handle its own volume. The case for one larger machine instead is an open plan, where there are no doors to contain anything and two small units would simply be feeding the same shared air from two points. So the deciding question is not the total square footage of your home, it is where the nearest closed door is.
I already spent on extra reeds and a stronger oil. Was that wasted?
Not wasted, but spent on strength when you were describing evenness, and it is worth understanding why so the next purchase lands better. Extra reeds raise the rate at which oil evaporates, so the air near the bottle does get stronger and the bottle empties sooner - you bought a more intense pocket and a shorter-lived one. A richer oil does the same thing by a different route: more fragrance produced per hour at the source, with still nothing to carry it outward. Both improved the reading at the bottle, which is a real improvement if the bottle is where you sit. Neither could have improved the far corner, because neither adds any force to move scent across a room. If where you sit now smells wonderful and you are content, the money did its job. If the room is still the complaint, the next Rs 1,198 on a Boond and a Hotel Collection bottle will do more than the last three purchases combined.
How do I know I have gone far enough and should stop?
Use the doorway test, and be honest with yourself about the answer. Leave the room for ten minutes so your nose resets, then walk back in and notice what you smell in the first thirty seconds - that is the only genuinely honest reading you get, because after a minute or two the nose settles and stops reporting a steady background. If it reads pleasantly of your fragrance at the doorway and still reads of it when you sit down on the far side of the room, you have arrived and there is nothing further to buy. If it is obvious at the doorway and gone by the time you sit, you need a level adjustment rather than a bigger machine. And if the answer is that it is now more than you wanted, turn it down - a low register held steadily is the setting that reads as expensive, and a household of children, elderly parents and pets is a good reason to stay gentle.
