What should I avoid at this level? A diffuser machine with nothing to run in it. The Boond at Rs 899 needs the water-based concentrate at Rs 299, which takes the pair just over the band.
What is the best single gift here? For a home, a reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849. For a new car, a combination pack at Rs 899 to Rs 949. For a person, a pairing of a candle and an attar.
The band where every reed and every combination opens up
Start with the mistake, because this is the first band where one is available. Under a thousand rupees it becomes possible to buy a diffuser machine, and the Boond at eight hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a perfectly good three-hundred-millilitre USB mini for a desk or a bedside table. What it is not is a complete gift on its own. It runs on the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees for fifteen millilitres, used at three to six drops per tank, and without that it does nothing at all. Giving somebody a machine with an empty tank hands them a research task rather than a present: they now have to work out what goes in it, buy that separately, and only then use the thing they were given. The pair comes to one thousand one hundred and ninety-eight rupees, which is just outside this band, so if a machine is what you want, plan for that figure rather than the eight hundred and ninety-nine one. The same logic applies to wax melts, which need a ceramic burner at five hundred and sixty-nine rupees - give both or neither. Now the good news, which is that this band contains the whole reed diffuser range and reeds are the single best-fitting product in this shop for the most common achievement in the cluster. Morning Freshness is seven hundred and forty-nine rupees, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm seven hundred and ninety-nine, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew eight hundred and forty-nine. For a first home this is the correct gift rather than a compromise at any budget: a newly handed-over flat has no smell of its own for the first few weeks beyond paint, cardboard and new fittings, and whatever is deliberately introduced into that gap tends to stay associated with the period - something people very commonly report years afterwards, which is a widely reported experience rather than a mechanism this shop is claiming, and nothing here is a scientific or medical statement. Practically, a reed asks nothing of a household where nothing is unpacked: a minute to set up, then no flame, no socket, no switch, no cleaning, and two to three months of running unattended. On choosing between them, go clean when you are guessing - Morning Freshness and Mountain Breeze are the registers almost nobody objects to. Evening Calm and Garden Bloom are warmer and more floral and suit somebody whose taste you know, and Fresh Brew is the most characterful of the five and is excellent for a coffee person and slightly odd for anybody else. Reeds use their own alcohol-free reed oil drawn up rattan by capillary action; it is a separate system, so reed oil never goes into a machine and the ultrasonic concentrate never goes into reeds. For a new car, this band opens up the combination packs at eight hundred and ninety-nine to nine hundred and forty-nine rupees: Jasmine with Lemon or Jasmine with Lavender at eight hundred and ninety-nine, Oud with Lemon or Sandalwood with Oud at nine hundred and forty-nine. Two scents rather than one means the recipient can alternate or pick, which matters in a space they occupy alone every day. Below that, the discovery set of three at six hundred and ninety-nine rupees is still the better choice if you genuinely do not know what they would want. And the caveat this shop gives at every price: never buy car fragrance to cover the smell of a new car. Most owners like it, it fades by itself within weeks, and something bought to mask it solves a problem they do not have - give it for month two or three, in a dry register, because a car parked in Indian sun amplifies sweetness to a level most drivers dislike. Also in this band: jar and wooden-wick candles at around nine hundred and forty-nine rupees, which are the substantial version of the coconut-soy candle and suit a home rather than a desk; the wax melt set at around eight hundred and fifty-four rupees, which still requires the five hundred and sixty-nine rupee burner to be useful; taper candles as a set of four at around five hundred and sixty-nine rupees; and the ceramic burner itself at five hundred and sixty-nine. The Inspired By range starts at five hundred and ninety-nine rupees for somebody who wants the feel of a recognisable modern perfume - Tabac Noir in tobacco and vanilla, Khayaal in sparkling bergamot and neroli, Samundar aquatic and marine, Bahaar in English pear and freesia, Zaffran in saffron and sweet amber, Chashni sweet fruity gourmand, all SOSA's own interpretations. Pairings remain strong at this level and are often better than one larger item. A reed at seven hundred and forty-nine plus nothing else is complete; a candle at three hundred and seventy-nine plus an attar at three hundred and seventy-nine covers both a room and a person for seven hundred and fifty-eight; two solid perfumes at around nine hundred and twenty-eight suits two people or somebody who travels; and a candle plus a solid perfume at eight hundred and thirty-eight is the pairing for a private achievement built from daily effort. Two things that hold regardless of what you choose here. Add three or four specific written sentences naming the achievement, how long it took and the part nobody saw - that outperforms several hundred rupees of extra spending. And send it in week two or three rather than in the first forty-eight hours, because congratulations stop dead after about two days and a gift arriving later has nothing at all to compete with.

Versailles
There is a pattern I noticed years before we sold anything, and it is the reason this section exists. Somebody achieves something that took them years - the flat, the first car bought outright, the manuscript finished at last - and for about forty-eight hours the phone does not stop. Then it stops completely. The achievement took three years; the celebrating took a weekend, and then everybody went back to their own lives, which is not unkind, it is just how attention works.
Which means a gift arriving in week two or three lands in an empty field. That is the single most useful thing on any of these pages and it costs nothing. The second is that a congratulations gift is not repaying anything: nobody owes anybody here, so there is no ledger to balance and no risk of over-gifting into an obligation. You are free to be as generous as the relationship allows. And write the note about what they did, not about how you feel - name the four years, the thing they gave up, the draft they rewrote eleven times.
Two honest things. If somebody has just bought a new car, do not buy them something to cover the smell of it - most new owners like it, it fades on its own, and a fragrance is better introduced a few weeks later in a restrained register. And if somebody has bought a new home, size the gift to the home: our Vaayu is a waterless nebuliser built for spaces of roughly a thousand cubic metres, which is a hotel lobby rather than a three-bedroom flat, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with what they achieved and what their place is like, and we will say honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
