This is the part that costs people money, so it is stated flatly. There are two fragrance formats in this range and they are not interchangeable in either direction. Water-based ultrasonic fluid is formulated to disperse in a tank of water and be thrown off as mist. The SOSA Hotel Collection at ₹299 for 15ml, ₹999 for a 100ml refill and ₹1,799 for a Pack of 7 at 15ml is that format, and it belongs in the Boond ₹899, the Sukoon ₹1,899 and the Megh ₹3,499 only. The ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into a Vaayu. Reed diffusers take neither, because their oil is already in the bottle and included in the price. The reason this trips people up is that the two SOSA formats carry the same seven register names, so the labels look interchangeable when the liquids are not. So the question to ask any seller, of any brand, is simply: which format does this take, and can I use the other one - and if the answer to the second part is anything other than a flat no, be careful. What the shared register names are genuinely good for is layering. If your machine is running the Westin-inspired white tea, aloe and cedar across the living volume, a Sukoon in a bedroom with the water-based Westin-inspired bottle carries that same register behind a door the machine cannot reach, for ₹2,198 with one 15ml bottle, or ₹1,198 with a Boond. The seven are the Ritz-Carlton-inspired white tea, bergamot and cedar; the Westin-inspired white tea, aloe and cedar; the 1 Hotels-inspired cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves; the St. Regis-inspired amber, violet and woods; the Shangri-La-inspired jasmine, green tea and white tea; the Four Seasons-inspired citrus, floral and sandalwood; and the W Hotels-inspired citrus, pepper and amber. We publish no comparison of these by throw, longevity or intensity, because no such data exists; what we will say is that character differs, so a heavier amber-and-woods register reads as more present in a room than an airy white-tea one. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations from an independent Indian house with no affiliation to, endorsement by or connection with any hotel brand. Now the recommendation, which is two of the three rather than one. A villa is not one scenting problem, it is two: a connected living volume and a set of sealed rooms. The connected volume goes to the cold-air machine, because it is the only one of the three that holds one register evenly across a large body of air on a schedule. The sealed rooms go to reeds from ₹749, and this is a genuine win rather than a budget concession: in a room where somebody is asleep, silence, no socket, no light and nothing that can fail overnight are exactly the specification. One Vaayu plus three bedroom reeds at ₹749 is ₹2,247 of reeds and ₹14,246 for the house; four closed rooms across the range at ₹749, ₹799, ₹799 and ₹849 is ₹3,196, so ₹15,195. The ultrasonic earns its place in two situations. First, when you want the identical register behind a closed door rather than a neighbouring one, which is the layering case above. Second, when a whole-home machine would simply be out of scale: in a compact home, or where the whole ambition is one large living room, a Megh at ₹3,499 with a bottle at ₹299 is ₹3,798 and is the proportionate purchase, and a Sukoon with a bottle at ₹2,198 does a bedroom or home office properly. Eight reeds at ₹749 is ₹5,992, incidentally, which is ₹6,007 less than a Vaayu at the till - the machine is not the cheaper route, it is the even one. And the case none of the three answers. If the house smells stale, musty or of last night's cooking, no format on this page fixes it: clear the source - the shoe cabinet at the door, the bin, damp mats, a dried-out floor trap in a bathroom nobody uses - and cross-ventilate with two windows on opposite sides, remembering that air-conditioning recirculates rather than replaces air. Fragrance is the finishing layer over clean air, never a substitute for it. For one register genuinely everywhere including behind shut doors, the only answer in this range is ducting: the SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 on central air-conditioning, or the Meenar at ₹38,500 for a larger estate. Honest notes before you buy anything. Coverage ratings assume connected air volume. A machine cannot push scent through a closed bedroom door, and it never will - so a partitioned villa is not one scenting problem but several, and honest sizing means saying so out loud rather than selling you one machine and hoping. Scent the volume that is genuinely open to itself, then give the closed rooms their own quiet answer, usually a reed diffuser. Fragrance never substitutes for ventilation or cleaning. If a room smells damp, stale or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it first; scent added on top of that only makes a more complicated bad smell. A home is not a lobby you pass through. Households include children, elderly parents, pregnant family members and pets, all of whom breathe this air far longer than any visitor does, which is why gentle dosing is the default at home and why the settings we suggest are lower than the machine can run. There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.
A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. In a villa that usually means the entrance, the living room and the dining as one connected space, with the closed rooms handled separately and quietly.

Is a cold-air diffuser better than an ultrasonic one?
Better for a different job rather than better, and the distinction saves people money in both directions. A waterless cold-air machine atomises fragrance oil into an extremely fine dry dispersion with no water involved, so the particles travel with the room's air rather than falling out near the source - which is the entire reason it can be rated for a connected volume, in the Vaayu's case approximately 1000 cubic metres. It also means no tank, no filling, no mist, no damp on a console and no residue ring. An ultrasonic vibrates water and a water-based fragrance fluid into a visible cool mist, which is an excellent and far less expensive way to handle one enclosed room: a Boond at Rs 899, a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 or a Megh 6L at Rs 3,499, each with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299, so complete rooms at Rs 1,198, Rs 2,198 and Rs 3,798. For a bedroom, a home office or a puja room the ultrasonic is the proportionate answer and a whole-home machine would be out of scale. For the connected living volume of a villa the ultrasonic cannot hold the space evenly and the cold-air machine is the right tool. Many large homes end up owning both, and the two fragrance formats never swap.
Are reed diffusers just the cheap option?
No, and treating them that way is how people end up with a machine humming in a room where somebody is trying to sleep. In a bedroom a reed wins on merit rather than on price. It is completely silent, with no pump, no fan and no water sound. It needs no socket at all, which matters more in an Indian home than the specification suggests, because the socket you would want is very often not where the console is, and running a visible cable to it is exactly the compromise a well-finished room refuses. It has no light on it, no app, no pairing and no settings, and there is nothing in it that can click on unexpectedly at two in the morning or fail while you are away. Its oil is included in the purchase price, from Rs 749, so there is no second invoice. What it cannot do is hold a large open volume, because it works by evaporation from a small surface and its reach falls away quickly, which is why several reeds around a big living space produce several local zones rather than one even register. Right object, wrong scale - not a lesser product.
Does an ultrasonic diffuser make the room damp?
It adds moisture to the air, which is honest to say and worth thinking about rather than worrying about. The mechanism is a disc vibrating a tank of water and fragrance into a visible cool mist, so water leaves the machine along with the scent - that is what you are watching when you see the plume. In a dry, heated or heavily air-conditioned room that is usually pleasant. In a humid coastal room in the middle of monsoon it is a real consideration, and it is one of the reasons an ultrasonic is a one-room object rather than a whole-house one. Practical points: do not stand it directly on unprotected timber or on a surface where a fine film would show, keep it away from soft furnishings it can mist onto directly, empty the tank when you travel and wipe it out periodically. If none of that appeals, that is precisely the difference the waterless route offers: a cold-air machine like the Vaayu holds no water at all, produces no mist and leaves no damp or ring, which is why it can sit inside a console cabinet without any of these considerations applying.

Walk from your front door to where the family actually sits on an ordinary weekday afternoon and count the doors you pass through.
