Your fragrance isn't lasting because you are using too few drops, the room is too big, draughty or hot for the unit, the scent you chose is naturally light, or you have gone nose-blind to it. I am Sonal Sahani, an ISIPCA-trained perfumer, and each of these is fixable without buying more machine.
Quick answers — read this first
How many drops should I use? Start with 5 to 10 drops of SOSA water-based fragrance per fill and adjust up. Too few is the most common reason a room barely smells of anything.

Is it the room or the scent? Both matter. A big, draughty or hot room disperses scent fast; and lighter scents like white tea are meant to whisper. Pick a woodier scent and size the diffuser to the room.

Why can others smell it but not me? Nose-blindness. Your brain filters a constant smell within minutes. Step out, come back, and you will notice it - it has not faded.
The short answer
Too few drops: the top reason - start at 5 to 10 drops and build up.
Room too big/hot/draughty: scent disperses faster; match the unit to the square footage.
Light scent by design: white tea and green notes whisper; woody, amber scents last longer.
Nose-blindness: you adapt to a constant smell; it is still there for guests.
Which SOSA diffuser by room (live specs)Boond ₹799 — 300ml, desk/bedside, up to 6 hrsSukoon ₹1799 — 500ml, bedroom, 16-18 hrs, remote+lightMegh ₹3499 — 6L, whole room, up to 100 hrs
Illustrative only. Match tank and runtime to the room: Boond for a desk, Sukoon for a bedroom, Megh for a living room or dry winter air.
Straight answer
Why isn't my fragrance lasting?
Because of one or more of five things: you are using too few drops; the room is too big, too draughty or too warm for the unit to keep up; the scent you chose is a naturally light one like white tea that is designed to whisper; you have simply gone nose-blind to a smell that is still there; or the diffuser is under-sized for the space. The good news is that none of these means the fragrance is weak - it means the dose, the room or your own nose is the variable, and all three are easy to work with.
One line: more drops, a woodier scent, and a unit sized to the room.
Want a scent that lingers? The woodier, amber-forward Hotel Collection scents carry longest.

Five reasons scent fades

When a diffuser barely scents a room, it is rarely the machine. It is usually one of these, and often two at once.

1. Too few drops. This is the one I see most. A couple of drops in a 500ml tank is a whisper. Start at 5 to 10 drops of SOSA water-based fragrance per fill and build from there until the room reads the way you want.
2. The room is too big for the unit. A desk-sized Boond covers about 150 sq ft. Ask it to scent a whole living room and it will feel faint. Match the diffuser to the space: Sukoon for 270 to 320 sq ft, Megh for a large room.
3. Draughts and heat disperse it fast. An open window, a ceiling fan on high or a hot afternoon all scatter the mist before it settles. Scent lasts longer in a still, cooler room. This is physics, not a fault.
4. You chose a naturally light scent. White Tea Serenity and Tea Garden are meant to be soft and spa-clean - they whisper by design. If you want presence, the woodier and amber-forward scents like Old-World Glamour or Lobby Bar linger longer.
5. Nose-blindness. Your brain filters out a constant smell within minutes to notice new ones. You stop registering your own diffuser while a guest walks in and smells it immediately. Step outside for a few minutes and come back - it is still there.
How to tell which it is: if a visitor can smell it and you cannot, it is nose-blindness. If nobody can smell it, it is drops, room size or a draught. If it is faint only in a big or windy room, size and airflow are your levers.

How to make it last

Work through these and you will get a room that holds its scent.

Add more drops. Build up from 5 to 10 drops per fill until the room reads right. Water-based fragrance is designed to carry on the mist, so more drops means more presence, cleanly.
Size the diffuser to the room. A unit working within its square footage scents evenly; one stretched over too big a space always feels faint. When in doubt, go one size up.
Close the windows and calm the fan while it builds. Let the scent establish in a still room, then you can open up. A gale will always win against a diffuser.
Pick a scent that lingers. If longevity is your priority, reach for the woody and amber scents rather than the delicate teas. Both are lovely; they just behave differently.
A faint room is almost always too few drops, too big a space, or a nose that has stopped noticing. Rarely is it a weak fragrance.

One habit that quietly helps longevity: use SOSA water-based fragrance and filtered water, and keep the plate clean. A scaled or oil-filmed plate mists weakly, and weak mist carries less scent.

The SOSA range

SOSA makes three cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers for different rooms, each arriving with three of our water-based Hotel Collection fragrances so you can scent from day one. Prices and headline specs below are live from the SOSA store. Whichever you choose, use only the SOSA water-based fragrance - raw essential or carrier oils can clog the misting plate.

A note from Sonal

I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine. Indian rooms are bone-dry from AC and winter, and most gadget diffusers are too small, too loud, or quit by midnight. So we made three: Boond (300ml, desk), Sukoon (500ml, bedroom, with a remote and mood light) and Megh (6L, whole-room), each shipping with three of our fragrances.

They are cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers - an ultrasonic plate turns water into a fine, cool mist with no heating element, so there is no boiling water or burn risk, and each has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.

One thing I say on every listing and will say here: use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are thick or solvent-heavy and can clog the misting plate and damage the unit. A few drops of our water-based fragrance in the tank mists cleanly and scents the whole room.

Frequently asked questions

How many drops of fragrance should I use in my diffuser?
Start with 5 to 10 drops of SOSA water-based fragrance per fill and adjust upward until the room smells the way you want. Too few drops is the most common reason a room barely reads.
Why can guests smell my diffuser but I can't?
Nose-blindness. Your brain adapts to a constant smell within minutes so it can notice new ones. The scent has not faded - step outside for a few minutes and return, and you will register it again.
Does room size affect how long fragrance lasts?
Yes. A unit sized for a desk will feel faint in a living room. Match the diffuser to the space: Boond for about 150 sq ft, Sukoon for 270 to 320 sq ft, Megh for a large room.
Which Hotel Collection scents last longest?
The woodier and amber-forward scents like Old-World Glamour (amber, violet, woods) and Lobby Bar (citrus, pepper, amber) linger longer. Lighter teas like White Tea Serenity are soft by design.
Do draughts and heat make fragrance fade faster?
Yes. Open windows, a high fan and warm afternoons all scatter the mist before it settles. Let the scent build in a still, cooler room, then ventilate.
