A 1BHK has three places to stand still. A 2BHK has four or five. A 3BHK is the first home this cluster covers that is actually experienced as a journey — front door, public zone, a passage, then a private wing of bedrooms behind it — and that changes the question entirely. It is no longer which rooms get a bottle. It is which order the house should reveal its scent in, and that is a placement strategy, not a shopping list.
Quick answers — read this first
The strategy: place for the arrival sequence. A Garden Bloom 130ml on the entrance side of the public zone at ₹1,299, so it lands in the first four seconds. Bedroom bottles on the bedside or dresser, three reeds, running quieter than the public zone on purpose. Bathroom bottles beside the basin, never under the exhaust fan. Nothing in the passage, nothing on the balcony.

The ladder: 4 bottles ₹3,696 · 5 (the standard kit, two bathrooms) ₹4,445 · 5 with a home office instead of a second bathroom ₹4,545 · 6 (every bedroom slept in) ₹5,244 · 7 (closed kitchen too, the ceiling) ₹6,493.

The one rule that saves the most rupees: keep the public-zone bottle at least six feet back from where the passage begins, or a third of its output pours into a corridor nobody stands in.
The short answer
Short answer: place bottles for the sequence a person actually walks — entrance, public zone, passage, private wing — not for even coverage of the floor plan. The public-zone bottle sits on the entrance side; bedroom and bathroom bottles sit quieter, deeper into the flat; the passage and the balcony get nothing at all.
The pick: Garden Bloom 130ml ₹1,299 on a console on the entrance side of the living-dining zone, six feet clear of the passage mouth. Evening Calm 50ml ₹799 and Mountain Breeze 50ml ₹849 on the bedside tables of the two bedrooms in use, three reeds each. Morning Freshness 50ml ₹749 beside each basin.
Do not buy: a house that is equally strong everywhere. A 3BHK run at full strength in every room reads as a hotel lobby, not a home — the private wing is meant to run quieter than the public zone, on purpose, and the passage is meant to smell of nothing that was bought for it.
Straight answer
Where should you place reed diffusers across a 3BHK?
1. Public-zone bottle on the entrance side, six feet back from the passage. A Garden Bloom 130ml at ₹1,299, all six reeds, standing on a console roughly a metre off the floor near the front door rather than the far wall. This is the bottle that lands in the first four seconds — put it where those four seconds happen.

2. Master bedroom quieter than the public zone, by design. Evening Calm 50ml at ₹799, three reeds, on the bedside table or dresser — never the windowsill, never under the AC's downdraught. A private wing that matches the public zone's strength stops reading as a home.

3. Second bedroom, the same restraint. Mountain Breeze 50ml at ₹849, three reeds, bedside or dresser. Keep at least six feet between it and any doorway carrying a different scent, and never stand it directly opposite the master's door.

4. Bathroom beside the basin, never under the exhaust fan. Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749. A second bathroom takes the same bottle for the same reason and brings the total to ₹4,445 — the standard 3BHK kit. Prefer a daily home office to a second bathroom in daily use? Swap that bottle for a Fresh Brew 50ml at ₹849 on the desk shelf instead, for ₹4,545.

5. Passage and balcony get nothing, on purpose. The passage still smells of something — borrowed from the rooms either side of it every time a door opens — and that is the correct amount of scent for a corridor nobody stands in. Seven bottles is the ceiling for a 3BHK, all three bedrooms and a closed kitchen included, at ₹6,493.

Alcohol-free, IFRA-compliant, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and handmade in small batches in Pune — and every purchase funds a girl's education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: place for the sequence a person actually walks. Public-zone bottle on the entrance side, six feet clear of the passage — Garden Bloom 130ml ₹1,299. Bedroom bottles on the bedside, three reeds, quieter than the public zone — Evening Calm and Mountain Breeze 50ml, ₹799 and ₹849. Bathroom bottles beside the basin, never under the exhaust — Morning Freshness 50ml ₹749 each. Nothing in the passage, nothing on the balcony. The ladder runs ₹3,696 to ₹6,493 depending on how many rooms are genuinely in use.
SOSA Garden Bloom reed diffuser, British rose and night-blooming jasmine
The public-zone bottle
SOSA Garden Bloom · 130ml ₹1,299
British rose over night-blooming jasmine — the register built to greet, not to hide. In a 3BHK it stands on the entrance side of the living-dining zone, roughly a metre off the floor and at least six feet clear of wherever the passage begins, so the fragrance meets a person walking in rather than a corridor nobody uses. All six reeds, 14–18 weeks on the 130ml. Refillable glass, alcohol-free CCT base, tested through 45°C summers. Refills from ₹2,399.

Why a 3BHK is a sequence, not a floor plan

A 1BHK and even a 2BHK are read almost all at once — you stand near the middle and most of the flat is visible or one door away. A 3BHK is not. It is walked through in a fixed order: the front door opens onto a public zone (living, dining, often an open kitchen), a passage runs off that zone toward the bedrooms, and the private wing sits behind it, usually behind at least one more door. Nobody experiences a 3BHK as a floor plan viewed from above. They experience it as a sequence of rooms arriving one after another, and a placement plan that ignores the order and simply distributes bottles evenly across the square footage is solving the wrong problem.

The sequence matters because attention is not evenly distributed either. The first four seconds after the front door opens belong entirely to the public zone — that is where a fragrance either registers or does not, and it is the only room in the flat where you get a genuine first impression more than once a day. The passage gets no attention of its own; nobody pauses in a corridor. And the private wing is visited last and most intimately, by people who are already home and already know what the house smells like. Three very different jobs, and a single "put a bottle in every room" instinct treats them as the same job.

This is also where the 1BHK and 2BHK rule of buy per place you stop moving gains a second layer. It still holds — you are still buying stopping points, not floor area — but at 3BHK size the stopping points sit in a sequence with a public front end and a private back end, and the correct plan makes the two ends smell deliberately different in strength. Strong at the front, quieter at the back, nothing in between. That asymmetry is the entire placement strategy, and it costs nothing extra to apply — it is a matter of which console the bottle stands on, not how many bottles you buy.

The three placement rules for a 3BHK

1
RULE ONE · THE ARRIVAL SEQUENCE
The public zone works on the entrance side, never the far wall
SOSA Garden Bloom reed diffuser 130mlGarden Bloom 130ml₹1,299A 3BHK's public zone is large enough — usually 250–400 sq ft — that where within it a bottle stands matters as much as which bottle you buy. A console on the entrance side puts the fragrance in the path of anyone arriving; the same bottle on the far wall, by the window, is scenting a sofa nobody has reached yet. Stand it roughly a metre off the floor, with clear air around it, on the side of the room nearest the front door — and at least six feet back from wherever the passage to the bedrooms begins, so the fragrance builds in the room instead of draining straight down a corridor.
The rule: the public-zone bottle belongs on the entrance side, six feet clear of the passage mouth — never the far wall, never the corridor edge.
2
RULE TWO · THE SIX-FOOT SPACING RULE
Six feet between any bottle and a doorway holding a different scent
A 3BHK has more doors than any home this cluster has covered — bedroom doors, bathroom doors, sometimes a kitchen door — and doors get opened constantly, which means scents meet at doorways whether you plan for it or not. The working rule is six feet: keep at least six feet between any bottle and a doorway that leads to a different fragrance, and never place two bottles either side of the same opening. A bedroom bottle six feet from its own door and eight feet from the bathroom door next to it will hold its own scent cleanly; the same bottle pushed up against the doorframe will smell muddled the moment both doors are open, which in a lived-in home is often.
The rule: six feet minimum from a doorway carrying a different scent — and never a bottle on each side of one opening.
3
RULE THREE · THE THREE QUIET DRAINS
Draught, sun and exhaust each strip a bottle before you notice
Three things quietly shorten a bottle's working life and none of them announce themselves — you simply notice, weeks later, that a room has gone faint. A ceiling fan or a split AC's direct draught strips the lighter top notes off in days and leaves only the base behind, which is why a bedroom bottle belongs on the bedside or dresser and never in the airstream. Direct sun through a windowsill both heats the oil and fades it, which is the entire reason the windowsill is the one surface a diffuser should never stand on. And an exhaust fan in a bathroom does the opposite of what you paid for — it pulls the fragrance straight out of the room you bought it for, which is why the basin counter works and the shelf under the fan does not.

The room-by-room placement plan for a 3BHK

A 3BHK runs roughly 1,000–1,400 sq ft carpet across seven possible stopping points, though most homes genuinely use five or six of them. The exact spot matters as much as the bottle — the same ₹1,299 diffuser does noticeably different work six feet from where it is doing none at all.

3BHK placement plan
Seven stopping points, five in most homes
Room Exact spot Not here Reeds Expected life
Public zone (living / dining) ★ Console on the entrance side, ~1m up — Garden Bloom 130ml ₹1,299 The far wall; within six feet of the passage mouth Six 14–18 weeks
Master bedroom ★ Bedside table or dresser — Evening Calm 50ml ₹799 The windowsill; the AC's downdraught Three 8–10 weeks
Second bedroom ★ Bedside table or dresser — Mountain Breeze 50ml ₹849 Within six feet of a facing doorway carrying another scent Three 8–10 weeks
Third bedroom / home office Empty in the standard kit. Daily office: Fresh Brew 50ml ₹849 on a shelf away from the desk. Slept in: Garden Bloom 50ml ₹799 bedside The desk edge a spill would mark; under a window AC unit Four (office) or three (bedroom), or ₹0 unused 7–9 weeks · 8–10 weeks
Bathroom (primary) ★ Counter beside the basin — Morning Freshness 50ml ₹749 Under the exhaust fan; inside the shower zone Two to three up to 12 weeks
Second bathroom Counter beside the basin — Morning Freshness 50ml ₹749, or ₹0 if the third bedroom took the budget instead Under the exhaust fan Two to three up to 12 weeks
Passage / balcony Nothing. The passage smells of what leaks from the doors either side; the balcony is outdoor air Anywhere at all — ₹0
The commonest error at this size: a bottle placed within six feet of a large public zone's passage mouth loses roughly a third of its output to a corridor nobody stands in. It is the single most frequent placement mistake in a 3BHK, and the only fix it needs is moving the console — not a bigger bottle.

The 3BHK core — public zone, master bedroom, bathroom
The SOSA principle
A 3BHK is not scented evenly. It is scented in sequence — strong at the front, quiet at the back, nothing in between.
The public zone works on arrival, the private wing runs quieter on purpose, and the passage is left to borrow whatever drifts through an open door.

Reeds, flipping and the three quiet drains

Start every bottle at the reed count you intend to keep. Six in the public zone, three in each bedroom, two to three in each bathroom, and give the flat seventy-two hours before judging it — fibre reeds saturate within a day and a half, and a room over-scented for a week takes several days to settle even after reeds come out. In a 3BHK specifically, resist the instinct to run the third bedroom or home office at six reeds just because it is a "big" room on paper; four reeds is enough for a room that is occupied for hours rather than lived in overnight, and it buys back weeks of bottle life for very little loss of presence.

Flip the reeds saturated-end up every three to five days across every bottle in the house — this is the whole maintenance routine and the reason a well-placed 3BHK setup still smells alive in month three. A Sunday flip across all five to seven bottles takes under two minutes and keeps the sequence intact: the public zone stays the strongest note in the flat, the bedrooms stay quieter, and nothing drifts out of proportion between flips.

The three drains are worth repeating because they cost nothing to avoid and are easy to miss in a larger home with more air movement. A ceiling fan or AC draught strips top notes fast — keep every bottle out of the direct airstream, which in most 3BHK bedrooms means the bedside or dresser rather than the wall opposite the AC unit. Direct sun through any windowsill heats and fades the oil, so no bottle ever stands on one, balcony-facing or otherwise. And an exhaust fan does real, active damage to a bathroom bottle specifically — it is designed to pull air (and with it, fragrance) straight out of the room, so the basin counter, several feet clear of the fan, is the only correct spot. As in every SOSA setup, keep the oil above the reach of children and pets and off any surface a spill would mark.

A house that smells equally strong in every room does not read as fragrant. It reads as a hotel lobby. A home has a front end and a back end, and they are not meant to match.

What a 3BHK placement plan actually costs

The full ladder, with every total checked by hand. A 3BHK's ceiling is seven bottles — past that, a home stops smelling of a fragrance and starts smelling of fragrance, which is the same warning that applies at every size in this cluster, just with one more room's worth of restraint required.

SOSA Fresh Brew Coorg coffee vanilla reed diffuser
If the third bedroom is a desk, not a bed
Fresh Brew · 50ml ₹849
Coorg coffee over Kerala vanilla — the one scent in the range built for a room you work in rather than sleep in. Four reeds rather than three, because a home office is occupied for hours at a stretch, not overnight. Stand it on a shelf away from the desk edge, never on the desk itself where a spill would reach a laptop. Also in 130ml at ₹1,349 if the room doubles as a guest bedroom too.

A note from Sonal

People moving into a 3BHK almost always ask the same question they asked in their 1BHK — which room first? — and the question is no longer quite right, because a 3BHK is the first home in this cluster big enough that it is walked through in a fixed order rather than taken in at a glance. The public zone is not just "a room", it is the room a guest, a delivery person and you yourself meet first, every single time the front door opens. That earns it the biggest bottle and the best spot in the room, which is the entrance side, not the corner furthest from the door.

The mistake I see most often at this size is not under-buying, it is over-placing — six bottles bought correctly, then scattered evenly around the flat as if fairness were the goal. A house that smells the same strength everywhere stops smelling like anyone's home and starts smelling like a serviced apartment. The private wing is supposed to be quieter. That is not a compromise, it is the point — a bedroom you sleep in should announce itself gently, not compete with the room you greet people in.

If I could change one habit among the 3BHK owners who write to me, it would be the six inches nobody thinks about: the distance between the living-room bottle and the passage. Move it six feet back from that opening and the room you paid for keeps the fragrance instead of handing a third of it to a corridor. Every purchase funds a girl's education through Nanhi Kali — not a percentage, not a quarterly cheque. Every one.

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly should reed diffusers go across a 3BHK?
Place for the arrival sequence rather than the floor plan: a Garden Bloom 130ml on the entrance side of the public zone, six feet clear of the passage; Evening Calm and Mountain Breeze 50ml on the bedside tables in the two bedrooms in use, three reeds each; Morning Freshness 50ml beside each basin. Nothing in the passage, nothing on the balcony.
How many reed diffusers does a 3BHK actually need?
Between four and seven, depending on how many bedrooms and bathrooms are genuinely in daily use — four covers the public zone, two bedrooms and one bathroom for ₹3,696; seven is the ceiling, with all three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a closed kitchen, at ₹6,493. The full setup breakdown is here.
Should the passage or corridor get its own diffuser?
No. A passage is transit air — nobody stands in it long enough for a fragrance to register as belonging there, and any bottle placed near it mostly feeds the corridor instead of the room it was bought for. A 3BHK passage still smells of something: whatever drifts out of the public zone and the bedrooms either side of it every time a door opens. That borrowed scent is enough, and it is free.
What about the third bedroom if it is a home office rather than a bedroom?
Treat it as a room in daily use, not an empty one. A Fresh Brew 50ml at ₹849 on a shelf away from the desk, run on four reeds rather than three, suits a room occupied for hours at a stretch rather than overnight. Swapped in for a second bathroom bottle, the total comes to ₹4,545 against the standard kit's ₹4,445 — a genuine trade-off, not an add-on.
Does placement change much between a 2BHK and a 3BHK?
Yes — a 2BHK is small enough to be taken in from most points inside it, so placement is mostly about spacing bottles apart from each other. A 3BHK adds a genuine public-to-private sequence, which is why the same bottle needs to sit differently: strong and forward in the public zone, quieter and further back in the bedrooms. See the 2BHK placement guide for the smaller-home version of this logic.
