Something that is new to them in kind rather than merely new in name. Why they are the hard case. Somebody who loves perfume has specific taste, already owns the obvious things, and will know within thirty seconds whether a gift was chosen or guessed. Buying another alcohol spray into that collection is entering a competition you cannot win, because they choose better than you do in that category by definition. The way around it. Fragrance is the only gift I know of where the recipient's opinion is the only one that counts. A book they do not finish still sat on the shelf. A perfume they do not like is a bottle that goes to the back of a drawer and stays there, and both of you know it. That is the actual problem a set solves, and it is not vagueness or hedging - it is moving the choosing to the person who has to wear it.
But I want to be honest about what a set costs, because most people selling one will not be. Three smaller bottles are not more fragrance than one larger bottle; they are less of each. If you genuinely know what somebody wears - you have seen the bottle, you know the name - then buy more of that, in the biggest size you can afford, and do not let anybody talk you into a set. A discovery set is the right answer to uncertainty. It is not a better answer to certainty.
