Founder Diaries · Living Room

The living room is where your home's signature actually lives — so build it low, steady and layered, never loud. The best diffuser for it is not the most powerful one on the shelf; it is the one sized to the volume of air, so the scent holds evenly for hours.

Quick answer

Standard closed living room? A Sukoon ultrasonic on the console — 500ml, easy, affordable.

Large or open-plan floor? The waterless SOSA Vaayu — one scent across the whole space, no humidity, scheduled.

Very large or double-height? Megh for a long ultrasonic run, or Vaayu for waterless coverage.

The short version
Short answer: size the diffuser to the volume of the room — small & closed → Sukoon; large & open → Vaayu or Megh.
The pick: Sukoon ₹1,799 for most living rooms; SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for open-plan.
Shop: Sukoon ₹1,799 · Megh ₹3,499 · Vaayu ₹11,999 · all home scenting

The living room is the room people most often buy the wrong diffuser for, and the mistake is almost always the same: they pick by looks or by price, not by the size of the air they are trying to scent. A pretty 300ml diffuser looks charming on a big open-plan console — and then you can only smell it if you stand next to it. Meanwhile a family in a compact flat runs a large machine flat-out and wonders why the room feels heavy. Get the sizing right and everything else follows.

Two questions decide it. First, how big is the volume? A closed 12x15 living room is a completely different job from an open-plan floor that runs kitchen-to-sofa with no walls in between. Second, what is your climate? Ultrasonic diffusers mist water and add a little humidity — a bonus in a dry Delhi or Pune winter, the wrong choice in a humid Mumbai or Kochi flat where you run scent for hours. Answer those two and the machine chooses itself.

The living-room diffuser ladder
Which SOSA system for which living room
Space System Why it fits
Small / medium closed room, low-maintenance Reed diffuser · from ₹749 Passive baseline, no power, no humidity — a shelf constant
Standard closed living room Sukoon · ₹1,799 + Hotel Collection ₹299 500ml tank, seven-colour light — the sensible everyday machine
Very large / double-height room (ultrasonic) Megh · ₹3,499 6-litre tank for a long, uninterrupted run in a big volume
Open-plan / humid coastal / hours of run-time SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999 Waterless, no humidity, app-scheduled, coverage up to ~1000 m³
Villa ground floor / very large home Aangan · ₹25,999 Ducted HVAC nebulising for whole-floor coverage

Ultrasonic systems (Sukoon, Megh) run the water-based Hotel Collection and add mild humidity; Vaayu and Aangan run a waterless nebulising oil and add none.

The everyday choice
Sukoon — the sensible machine for most rooms
SOSA Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser Sukoon 500ml ₹1,799

For a standard, four-walled living room, the Sukoon is the machine I recommend most. A 500ml tank scents the room comfortably, the soft light suits an evening, and at ₹1,799 plus a ₹299 Hotel Collection fragrance it is an easy start. Run it low for an hour or two rather than blasting it — the living room reward is steadiness, not clouds of mist. Pair it with a reed on a shelf and you have a two-layer system: passive baseline plus a dial you can turn up.

Founder tip: the mild humidity a Sukoon adds is a small gift in dry-season Delhi or Pune. In a monsoon-humid coastal flat running for hours, look to the waterless Vaayu instead.

The open-plan answer
Vaayu — waterless coverage you can schedule

If your living room flows into the dining and kitchen with no walls, a single small ultrasonic will never scent it evenly. The waterless Vaayu is built for exactly this: coverage up to around 1000 m³, no added humidity, and Bluetooth scheduling so the whole floor is already scented before anyone walks in. Under 38 dB, it disappears into the evening. This is the one living-room upgrade that also quietly solves the rest of the ground floor.

Honest caveat: at ₹11,999 the Vaayu is an investment. If you only ever scent one closed living room, a Sukoon or a reed is the honest, cheaper answer — don't over-buy.
The SOSA principle
Size the diffuser to the air, not the shelf. Match the machine to the volume and you can run it low — which is the whole point.
An undersized diffuser gets run too hard to compensate, and an oversized one is a waste. The right size lets the scent stay quiet and even, all evening.
Frequently asked
What is the best diffuser for a living room?
It depends on the volume of the room. For a standard closed living room, a Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser is the sensible pick. For a large or open-plan floor, the waterless SOSA Vaayu covers up to around 1000 cubic metres and adds no humidity, while the 6-litre Megh suits a big room where you prefer an ultrasonic. Size the machine to the air, not to the furniture it stands on.
What size diffuser do I need for an open-plan living room?
A small ultrasonic will scent one corner of an open-plan floor and fade elsewhere. For even coverage across a large or open-plan living-dining space, choose the waterless SOSA Vaayu, which nebulises without water for up to around 1000 cubic metres and can be scheduled through its app. For a very large or double-height room, the Megh's 6-litre tank gives a long ultrasonic run.
Ultrasonic or waterless diffuser for a living room?
An ultrasonic diffuser like Sukoon or Megh is water-based, affordable and ideal for a standard room; it adds mild humidity, which is welcome in a dry winter. A waterless machine like the Vaayu adds no moisture and covers a far larger area, which matters in open-plan homes and humid coastal cities where you run scent for hours. In monsoon-humid living rooms, prefer waterless for long daily runs.
Is a reed diffuser enough for a living room?
A reed diffuser is a lovely passive baseline for a small or medium living room and needs no power or refilling, but it cannot fill a large or open-plan space on its own. Use a reed for the constant low note and add an electric diffuser when you want more presence, scheduling, or coverage across a bigger volume.
How many diffusers do I need for a large living room?
Rather than scatter several small diffusers, it is usually better to run one appropriately sized machine. A single waterless SOSA Vaayu will scent a large open-plan living room more evenly than three little ultrasonics fighting each other, and it keeps the whole space on one consistent signature. Reserve extra reeds for shelves and consoles as gentle accents.
Pick your system
Sukoon for the room, Vaayu for the whole floor.
Start with a Sukoon and a Hotel Collection fragrance for a defined living room. Move to the waterless Vaayu when the space is open-plan, the city is humid, or you want the scent scheduled and hands-off.
