Morning Freshness ₹749
Fresh Brew ₹849
Mountain Breeze ₹849
Garden Bloom ₹799
Oil refill 300ml ₹2,399
No, do not change the scent because the bottle emptied fast. That is the second, separate effect — warm air takes oil off the reeds faster, so a summer bottle finishes sooner. All five compositions run to the same 6–8 and 14–18 week ranges. Change the size, not the scent.
The Delhi pair I would buy: Morning Freshness 130ml ₹1,249 for the hot months, Fresh Brew 130ml ₹1,349 from about November. ₹1,249 + ₹1,349 = ₹2,598.
Cheaper version: the same two in 50ml — ₹749 + ₹849 = ₹1,598 — which gives 6–8 weeks each rather than a season each.
2. The perception effect. Warm air carries a fragrance's heavier, sweeter materials more freely, so the same bottle reads fuller in May than in December. Fresh Brew — Coorg coffee over Kerala vanilla, 9.5 on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds — is the clearest example: excellent in a cold Delhi living room, and noticeably thick in the same room in peak summer.
3. The evaporation effect. Vapour pressure rises with temperature, so more oil leaves per hour in a hot room. A 50ml rated 6–8 weeks lands at the short end in summer and the long end in winter. This tells you nothing about which scent to buy. All five compositions run to the same published ranges.
4. So: change the scent for reason two, and the size or the calendar for reason three. If your summer bottle keeps running out, buy 130ml rather than switching to something you like less. If your winter bottle feels thin, that is not evaporation — it is a composition that needed the heat to open.
5. The pair I would buy for an NCR flat. Morning Freshness 130ml ₹1,249 for the hot months and Fresh Brew 130ml ₹1,349 for the cold — ₹1,249 + ₹1,349 = ₹2,598. There is no duo set pairing those two, so they are bought separately; that is an honest gap rather than an upsell.
6. If you only ever want one bottle, buy the dry one. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 or ₹1,349 is woody without being sweet, and dry compositions change least across a temperature swing. It is the honest single-bottle answer for a Delhi year.
7. Reed count is the seasonal fine-tuning, and it is free. Six reeds in a ventilated summer room; fewer in a shut winter one. That adjustment does more for how a season feels than swapping bottles does, and costs nothing.
Everything is composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, tested through 45°C summer heat and 85% monsoon humidity, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Part one — the two effects, kept apart
Everything on this page follows from refusing to let these two run together. One is about what you smell; the other is about what the bottle costs you over a year. They share a cause and share nothing else.
Morning Freshness₹1,249 · 130mlA reed diffuser is nothing but evaporation off the exposed length of six fibre reeds, and evaporation runs faster in warmer air. So a 50ml rated 6–8 weeks tends to land at the short end through an NCR summer and the long end through the winter — the same bottle, the same reeds, a different calendar. Here is the trap: this feels like a performance change, so people respond to it by changing scent. It is not a performance change and no composition escapes it. Morning Freshness at ₹749 and Fresh Brew at ₹849 run to identical published ranges; the price difference is what is in the bottle, not how long it lasts. The correct responses to this effect are a 130ml instead of a 50ml, an oil refill on the shelf, and moving the bottle out of direct sun. None of them involves a different fragrance.Part two — which effect is behind what you noticed
Six seasonal complaints, sorted by which of the two mechanisms is responsible. The last column is the purchase, or the refusal.
| What you noticed | Which effect | Why | What answers it |
|---|---|---|---|
| "My winter scent feels sickly now that it is hot" ★ | Perception | Warm air is presenting more of the composition's sweet base | Change the scent. Morning Freshness or Mountain Breeze |
| "The bottle emptied in five weeks instead of eight" | Evaporation | More oil leaves the reeds per hour in a hot room | Change the size. 130ml, 14–18 weeks. Never a different scent |
| "My summer citrus feels flat and thin in December" | Perception | Cold air holds the lighter top materials closer to the reeds | Change the scent. A warm composition for the cold half |
| "The winter bottle is lasting far longer than the summer one" | Evaporation | Cool air takes less per hour. This is the product working | Nothing. Enjoy it and plan the re-order by the liquid line |
| "It smells strong for three days then settles down" | Neither — it is the curve | Freshly soaked reeds and departing top notes are always loudest | Nothing. The plateau after that is the product |
| "I cannot smell it at all any more, in either season" | Neither — it is your nose | Ordinary olfactory adaptation, strongest in your own home | Leave and come back, or ask someone arriving. Do not add reeds |
| The honest caveat: two of these six rows are not seasonal at all, and I have included them because they are routinely blamed on the season. Longevity spans are typical ranges rather than guarantees, and the split between the two effects is qualitative — I am not going to hand you a percentage for how much of what you noticed is perception and how much is evaporation, because no honest figure for that exists. A reed diffuser adds a scent to a room; it does not clean or purify air, remove any existing smell, or change humidity. | |||

Part three — when changing the scent is the wrong move
There are three situations where a seasonal switch is being asked to solve something it cannot, and all three are worth ruling out before you spend ₹2,598. The first is a room that has simply gone quiet. If the complaint is that you no longer notice your diffuser, changing scent will fix that for a week or two and then you will stop noticing the new one — because what happened was ordinary adaptation to a constant in your own home, and it happens hardest where you live. The reliable checks are leaving the flat for a while and walking back in, or asking someone who has just arrived. Neither costs anything, and both are more informative than a new bottle.
The second is a smell you are trying to sit a fragrance on top of. A reed diffuser adds a scent alongside whatever is already in your air; it removes, neutralises, absorbs and purifies nothing, and SOSA sells no air purifier. If a Delhi winter flat with the windows shut is carrying last night's cooking, or a musty edge that comes back a day after cleaning, no seasonal composition addresses that. The order is: find the source, ventilate or extract, then add fragrance. A musty smell that returns after cleaning is telling you something in the room is still wet, and that is a moisture problem with no fragrance answer at all.
The third is wanting fragrance only at particular hours, which the seasonal question sometimes disguises. A reed diffuser is constant and passive by design — no fan, no heat, no switch — so if your real preference is a warm scent in the evening and nothing during the day, no amount of seasonal swapping delivers it. That is what a Sukoon at ₹1,899 is for: 270–320 sq ft while it runs, 16–18 hours on low, a remote and steady, 2H and 4H timers, with three 15ml Hotel Collection fragrances in the box. It delivers scent by aerosolising water, so it adds moisture to the room; reeds add none, and reduce none. Buy a machine for control, not for strength — and note that reed oil never goes into a machine and the water-based Hotel Collection never goes into a reed bottle.
Part four — the two-bottle Delhi year, costed
Five ways to run a Delhi year, with the arithmetic written out. Every row assumes six reeds and one room.
| The plan | Hot half | Cold half | The arithmetic for the year |
|---|---|---|---|
| The two-bottle year, 130ml ★ | Morning Freshness — 14–18 weeks, at the short end | Fresh Brew — 14–18 weeks, at the long end | ₹1,249 + ₹1,349 = ₹2,598 |
| The same idea at half the outlay | Morning Freshness 50ml — 6–8 weeks | Fresh Brew 50ml — 6–8 weeks | ₹749 + ₹849 = ₹1,598, but a few weeks each, not a season |
| You want no sweetness in either half | Morning Freshness 130ml | Mountain Breeze 130ml — dry, woody, 9.4 | ₹1,249 + ₹1,349 = ₹2,598, and no vanilla anywhere |
| One bottle only, all year | Mountain Breeze 130ml — the dry middle of the axis shifts least across a temperature swing | ₹1,349, plus a re-order when the level says so | |
| You already own both bottles and want it cheaper next year | 300ml oil refill ₹2,399 into your own glass — about ₹7–8 per ml against ₹15–17 | ₹2,399 for roughly 8–11 months feeding one bottle | |
Versailles
At Versailles you learn to evaluate a composition on a blotter at a controlled temperature, and then you come home and discover that a north Indian flat in May and the same flat in January are effectively two different testing environments. The same oil, unchanged, presents a different proportion of itself in each. That is not a defect in the formula; it is what a fragrance is.
The reason I insist on separating the two effects is commercial honesty. It would be easy to let a customer whose bottle emptied fast conclude that they need a different scent, because that is a full-price order rather than a refill. But it is untrue — every composition we make runs to the same durations — and a customer who buys a fragrance they like less for a reason that was never real does not come back.
Phthalate solvents push fragrance hard off a reed and win the first week convincingly, then degrade in sustained heat and turn acrid by around week six. We are phthalate-free on a heat-stable coconut-derived CCT base: a smaller opening, a longer flatter plateau, and a bottle that still smells like itself at the end of a Delhi summer. Made in small batches in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

A reed diffuser adds fragrance to a room. It does not clean, purify or filter air, remove or neutralise cooking, damp or smoke smells, reduce humidity, or change how anyone feels. A reed diffuser adds no moisture to the air; ultrasonic machines work by aerosolising water and therefore do. A persistent musty smell indicates moisture that needs finding and drying, and SOSA sells no dehumidifier or air purifier. Ventilate or extract first; add fragrance second. Evaporation rate rises with warmth and falls with humidity, and airflow carries scent away from the bottle — so performance varies with season, ventilation, ceiling height and room use; longevity figures are typical ranges, not guarantees. Not noticing a constant fragrance is ordinary olfactory adaptation; the reliable checks are leaving the room and returning, or asking someone who has just arrived. Strength figures are positions on SOSA’s own internal scale, not an industry standard. Fragrance oil is flammable — keep bottles away from open flame and out of direct sunlight, and out of reach of children and pets.
