Why mark the return at all? Because offices mark departures and ignore returns, and the return is the harder week - a changed team, a full inbox and a day that now has to work at both ends.
What is worth more than the gift? A short note saying what has changed while they were away and who now does what. That saves them a week of working it out.
The return is harder than the leave, and nobody marks it
There is a reliable asymmetry in how offices handle parental leave, and it is worth noticing because the fix is cheap and almost nobody applies it. The departure is marked. There is a card that goes round, sometimes a gathering, a general warmth, and everybody says the right things. The return is not marked at all. The person simply reappears on a Monday, sits down, and starts working. From the outside that looks like the easy end of the process. From the inside it is the harder one. Consider what the first week back actually contains. An inbox with several weeks in it, most of which is obsolete and some of which is not, and no way to tell which is which without reading all of it. A team that has changed - people who have joined, left, been promoted, or quietly taken over things that used to be theirs. Decisions made in their absence that they now have to catch up on without appearing to question. A day that has to work at both ends, because the morning now involves a handover and the evening has a hard stop that cannot move. And on top of that, sleep that is still not normal. Meanwhile, nobody is asking how it is going, because from the office's point of view the event finished months ago. So a gift at the return does something a gift at the departure cannot: it says the office noticed the harder half. That is unusual enough to land, and it costs no more than the card did. Keep it small. This is a professional context and the gift should not be a production - no gathering, no speech, nothing that requires them to perform gratitude in front of a team on a week when they have nothing spare. Something handed over in twenty seconds at a desk, or left on it with a note, is exactly right. Three hundred and fifty to eight hundred rupees individually, one thousand to two thousand from a team. As with every professional gift, address a space rather than a person: nothing worn on the body, nothing referencing anybody's physical state or recovery, nothing for the baby. To be explicit: SOSA makes no products for babies or children, and nothing in this range is intended for a nursery, a cot, a pram or a child's belongings. The most useful object for this specific week is a hanging car perfume at four hundred and forty-nine to five hundred and nine rupees, and the reason is the commute. A returning parent's journey to work is no longer elastic. It is bracketed at both ends by a handover and a pickup, which means the car has stopped being dead time and become the only twenty minutes of the day that belongs to nobody else. Improving it is a small, precise kindness. Jasmine is four hundred and forty-nine, Lavender and Sandalwood four hundred and seventy-nine, Icy Mint four hundred and eighty-nine, Lemon four hundred and ninety-nine, Vetiver, Sea Breeze and Oud five hundred and nine. It is also entirely neutral, which is what a workplace gift should be. The second good option is a solid perfume at four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine rupees, which at a desk reads as a well-made practical object rather than an intimate gift. Fifteen grams of alcohol-free balm in a flat compact: opened with a thumb, applied with a finger, no cap to unscrew and drop, nothing to spill into a bag that is already being carried everywhere, and usable with one hand. For somebody whose mornings now involve doing three things at once before leaving the house, that is a genuinely practical object rather than a token. Velour is vanilla bean, butter biscuit, toasted almond and whipped cream; Sterling is coconut milk, almond nougat, white amber and powdered musk; Titan is Arabica coffee, roasted wood, black pepper, frankincense and leather. A coconut-soy candle at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees is the safest and most legible choice if you would rather keep it entirely to the home: lead-free eco wick, phthalate-free, hand-poured in Pune, fifteen to eighteen hours, in Misty Mornings, Bookshop, Evening Walks or Cozy Corner. From a team, one good object rather than a hamper - a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine to eight hundred and forty-nine rupees, which needs one minute of attention at the start and none afterwards and runs two or three months, or a complete Boond ultrasonic system at one thousand one hundred and ninety-eight rupees, which is the eight hundred and ninety-nine rupee machine with the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine, three to six drops per tank. Never the machine alone. The three systems do not interchange, and reed oil must never go into a machine. Now the part that is worth more than anything above, and costs nothing. Write them a short note - not a card, a working note - saying what actually changed while they were away: who joined, who left, which projects moved, who now owns what, and what they can safely ignore. That saves them a week of reconstructing it from context, and it is the single most useful thing anybody can hand a returning colleague. If you are their manager, add two sentences: that the first fortnight is for catching up rather than delivering, and that the hard stop in the evening is fine and nobody is counting. Those sentences are the actual gift. The object is just the thing that makes them easy to say.
Gifts for the first week back
Small, useful and appropriate at a desk. The car item is the most precisely targeted, because the commute is the thing that changed most.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| Hanging car perfume ₹449 to ₹509 | The most useful thing here. The commute is now bracketed at both ends, which makes it the only twenty minutes of the day belonging to nobody else. |
| Solid perfume ₹459 to ₹549 | Reads at a desk as a practical object rather than an intimate gift - and it is one, for mornings that now involve three things at once. |
| Candle ₹379 | The safest and most legible choice if you would rather keep it entirely to the home. Consumed rather than placed. |
| From a team · reed diffuser ₹749 · Boond system ₹1,198 | One good object, not a hamper. The Boond only complete, with Hotel Collection at ₹299, three to six drops per tank. |

When somebody has a baby, the gifts arrive in a wave and almost every one of them is for the baby. Clothes the child outgrows in six weeks, toys for an age they have not reached, blankets in a cupboard that already has nine. It is all kind and it is all well meant. But two adults have just gone through something enormous, and by the end of the first month neither of them has received a single thing addressed to them.
That is the whole reason this section exists. We do not make anything for babies, and nothing we sell is meant for a nursery or for a child's things - we make fragrance for adults. What we can do is give somebody an answer when they say: everybody is buying for the baby, what do I give her, or him, or the two of them. Usually the answer is something small, consumable and completely undemanding, because a new parent has no free hands, no spare surface and no appetite for anything that needs setting up.
One honest thing. If the person you are buying for is pregnant, be careful with personal fragrance. A great many people find that what they want to be near changes during those months, and a bottle somebody cannot go near is a worse gift than nothing at all - so either choose something for their home or their car, or let them pick it themselves later. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 and tell us who the adult is and what you know about them, and we will tell you honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
