No. Do not increase the fragrance, and if a machine is already running in or near the rehab area, turn it down or off until the room is fixed. Occupancy and sweat odour by evening is an air-changes, wipe-down and laundry problem, and every step of fragrance you add to it produces a third smell - sweat and cedar - that is worse than sweat alone. This page ends with you buying nothing from SOSA.
Quick answers — read this first
My rehab area smells of sweat and people by evening - should I increase the fragrance? No. Fragrance does not remove occupancy odour; it sits on top of it, and above a trace the two combine into a third smell that reads as a cover-up to everyone who walks in. Increase three other things instead: the air changes and fresh-air intake for the rehab zone, the wipe-down frequency for vinyl and mats, and the laundry turnover for towels and covers. If a scent machine is running near the rehab floor, turn it down or off until the room smells of nothing on its own at six.

Why does more fragrance make it worse rather than better? Because odour and fragrance do not cancel; they add. The nose reads sweat plus pine as a new, unfamiliar smell, and an unfamiliar smell in a clinic reads as something being hidden. A person exercising also breathes several times the air of a person sitting, so any increase intended for the rehab floor is met there hardest. The only fragrance level that survives a room with an odour of its own is a trace - and the room has to lose the odour before even that is added.

So what should I buy? Nothing from SOSA today. The spend this month is an AC contractor visit, a lidded towel bin, a laundry turnover written against sessions and a wipe rota with a name on it. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating; it does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress, it does not affect outcomes, it is never a substitute for ventilation or cleaning, procedure rooms stay unscented and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan.
The short answer
Short answer: no - do not increase the fragrance. Occupancy and sweat odour by evening is fixed by air changes, wipe-down frequency and laundry turnover, and every step of fragrance you add on top makes a third smell that is worse than the first. Turn any machine near the rehab floor down or off until the room smells of nothing at six.
The pick: nothing from SOSA. This page ends with you buying an AC contractor visit, a lidded bin and a laundry rota - not a bottle and not a machine. When the rehab floor smells of nothing on its own for a week, the large rehab area page says what a trace of scent looks like then; a SOSA Vaayu may be right later, on the reception side, and is wrong today.
Next step: tonight, empty the towel bin before six and run the rehab AC for an hour after closing; tomorrow, call the AC contractor about fresh-air intake for that zone. Write down what the room smells of at six each day for two weeks before asking for a clinic scenting plan.
Sweat by evening - the answer in five linesNo - do not increase the fragrance; turn it down or off near the rehab floorIncrease air changes, wipe-down frequency and laundry turnover insteadFragrance over sweat is a third smell, worse than sweat aloneThis page ends with you buying nothing from SOSAAmbience only - no claim about pain, stress or outcomes
The instinct to turn the machine up is the instinct to hide a smell. A clinic that smells of something hidden is worse than one that smells of people.
Named only to say no - the products this page does not sell for this room
Straight answer
My rehab area develops human-occupancy and sweat odours by evening - should I increase the fragrance to deal with it?
No, and if there is a machine or a bottle anywhere near the rehab floor, the right move tonight is to turn it down or take it out, not up. Here is what is happening in the room. From lunch onward six or eight people at a time have been exercising in it, breathing hard, lying on vinyl, using towels that then sit in an open bin, and the AC has been moving the same air past all of them since morning. By six the room smells of that. It is not a fragrance problem and it has no fragrance solution, because odour and fragrance do not cancel each other; they add. What the nose receives at six with the machine turned up is sweat plus pine, or sweat plus lemon, which is a third smell that nobody has met before and which reads, in a clinic, as something being hidden. A person on a treadmill breathes several times the air of a person in a chair, so the increase intended for the rehab floor is met there hardest, by the people least able to leave the room. And the desk, which is where the owner stands when deciding to turn it up, is the one place in the building where the change seems to work, because the desk does not smell of sweat. So the answer is three increases, none of them fragrance. Increase the air changes. Ask the AC contractor what fresh-air intake the rehab zone has and what its air-change rate is; a recirculating system without intake is the usual cause of a room that is fine at eleven and not at six. Run the zone for an hour after closing and an hour before opening. Put the filter on a schedule. Why a fully air-conditioned clinic smells closed is that problem in full. Increase the wipe-down frequency. Vinyl tables, mats, wedges and equipment handles between every patient, an end-of-day clean after the last session with twenty minutes of ventilation after it, and a weekly deep clean with a product chosen for leaving no residue - because cleaner over sweat is another third smell, and why fragrance smells strange after housekeeping is the sequence that avoids it. Increase the laundry turnover. Towels and covers per session rather than per day, a lidded bin that leaves the room before six, wipeable covers replacing fabric wherever the equipment allows; fabric holds the smell of a day long after the air has cleared, and tables, upholstery and fabrics holding odour is that page. Do those three for two weeks and stand in the middle of the rehab floor at six each day, writing down what it smells of; fine at nine, different at six is the diary method. When the answer has been "nothing in particular" for a week, the room has earned a conversation about scent, and even then the scent it earns is a trace of the reception register arriving by distance from a machine on the reception side, never a source in the room and never a level chosen to reach it; scenting a clinic with a large rehabilitation area is that conversation, reception versus physio floor intensity is why the rehab floor always runs under, and the exercise-rehab zone is the four-layer version of this page. Two things this plan refuses outright. It refuses to sell a machine for this room this month - a SOSA Vaayu is a good machine for the reception side of a connected centre once the rehab floor is fixed, and a bad purchase for a rehab floor that smells of people, and we would rather say so than sell into it. And it refuses the idea of a "fresher" scent for the gym: a sweeter or brighter fragrance chosen for a room that smells of occupancy is chosen to cover it, and reads as a cover-up. Separating odour control from ambient scenting is why the laundry and the fragrance are two budgets and why this month's spend is entirely in the first. The rest of the map does not change because a room smells: procedure rooms, injection suites, fluoroscopy rooms and recovery bays stay unscented, the consultation cabin is the doctor's call, and the physiotherapist's call on the rehab floor overrides any plan. And the standing sentence: fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating. It does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress, it does not affect outcomes, it is never a substitute for ventilation or cleaning, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. The whole building's method is the family pillar, one fragrance strategy for a multidisciplinary centre.
No - do not increase the fragrance. Sweat and occupancy odour by evening is fixed by more air changes, more frequent wipe-down and faster laundry turnover; fragrance on top of it is a third smell that is worse than the first. Turn any machine near the rehab floor down or off until the room smells of nothing at six. This page sells nothing; a SOSA Vaayu is a reception-side purchase for later, not a rehab-floor purchase now.
Nothing from SOSA this month. The spend is an AC contractor, a lidded towel bin, a laundry turnover and a wipe rota. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the right machine for the reception side of a connected centre once the rehab floor smells of nothing on its own - and it is placed so the rehab floor receives a trace by distance, never turned up to reach it.
See the Vaayu - for later, not for this Ask for a clinic scenting plan

What this page does not sell you, and why

Two cards, and neither is a purchase for this room this month. They are here so that you know what the right machine will be once the rehab floor is fixed, and what the wrong purchase would be today.

SOSA Vaayu
Later - the reception side of a connected centre, once the rehab floor smells of nothing at six
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³. When the rehab floor has passed its 6 pm test for a week, one Vaayu goes high on the reception wall, far from the rehab opening, set from the rehab floor and locked, and the rehab floor receives a trace by distance. Today it is the wrong purchase: a machine bought to deal with sweat is a machine that will be turned up over sweat, which is the exact mistake this page exists to stop. Made in India.
₹11,999 - later
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Not for the rehab room - at reception only, and only if reception has nothing
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar, the driest register SOSA makes. At a reception desk, three reeds in, it is the right small purchase; in a rehab room it sits at nose height for a patient on a table, over a smell it cannot cover, and the cedar-and-sweat result is worse than either. If reception already has a scent, this page sells you nothing at all. 50ml Rs 849, six to eight weeks.
From ₹849 - reception only
SOSA Vaayu
The machine this page refuses to sell for this room
SOSA Vaayu - waterless cold-air scent machine
A good machine in the wrong month. Once the rehab floor smells of nothing on its own, the Vaayu is the right purchase for the reception side of a connected centre - placed high and far from the rehab opening so the floor receives a trace, key-locked so nobody turns it up on a warm evening, timed so it is off during the clean. Bought this month to deal with sweat, it becomes the thing that gets turned up over sweat, and its 400ml tank, lasting roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, would be spent making the room worse. CE, RoHS and SGS are electrical and compliance marks only; the Vaayu is not a medical device.

The three things to increase instead of the fragrance

Three increases with no SOSA product on them, a fourth card about the machine you already have, and a fifth about the smell the room will make if you ignore the first three.

1
Increase the air changes
Fresh-air intake, an hour of AC either side of opening, a filter on a schedule - the AC contractor's visit
The most common cause of a rehab room that is fine at eleven and not at six is an AC system that recirculates without fresh-air intake: the same air past the same people from morning to evening, with the filter as the only thing between them. The contractor's visit is the first spend and the only one that might fix the whole problem alone. Three questions: what fresh-air intake does the rehab zone have, what is its air-change rate, and can the zone run for an hour either side of the clinic's hours. If the zone's return grille sits in reception, add a fourth - because that grille is carrying reception's air in and the rehab floor's air out, and it decides where any machine could ever go. Stale in the morning is the pre-opening routine; central AC and distribution is the return.
Rule: this card is a phone call, and it is made before the towel bin, the rota or anything else. Air first.
2
Increase the wipe-down frequency
Between every patient, end of day with ventilation after, a weekly deep clean - with a residue-free product
Vinyl, foam and rubber are wiped between patients in most clinics and deep-cleaned rarely, and the smell that builds over a month is the difference. The rota has three lines - between patients, end of day, end of week - and a name against each. The end-of-day clean happens after the last session and the room is ventilated for twenty minutes afterward, and if a machine exists anywhere in the building its timer keeps it off through both; cleaner plus fragrance is its own third smell. The product is chosen for leaving nothing behind at six, and the disinfectant smell is what happens when it is not. In the monsoon the floor drain and the AC drip tray join this card, and the musty clinic in monsoon is that list.
Test: after the evening clean and the twenty minutes of air, stand in the room. If it smells of cleaner, the product is wrong; if it smells of nothing, the rota is working.
3
Increase the laundry turnover
Towels and covers per session, a lidded bin out before six, wipeable covers wherever the equipment allows
Fabric is where the day's smell lives after the air has moved on. A towel used at ten and left in an open bin until closing is a source for eight hours; a cover changed weekly is a source by midweek. The turnover is written against sessions, not days - so many uses per cover, towels out of the room in a lidded bin that is emptied at a set time before six - and one person owns it. Fabric covers on wedges and bolsters are replaced with wipeable ones wherever possible. This is the increase owners most want to replace with fragrance, and the one fragrance replaces least, because pine over towel odour is the exact third smell the whole cluster warns about. Fabrics holding odour is the page; two budgets is why laundry never competes with fragrance for money.
Rule: the bin has a lid and leaves before six. If that alone changes what the room smells of at six - and it often does - the diagnosis is done.
4
The machine you already have
Down or off near the rehab floor until the room passes; never up, and never moved closer to reach it
If a machine is already running - a Vaayu on the reception wall, a Sukoon on a shelf, a bottle somewhere near the mats - the instruction for it this month is the opposite of the instinct. Down, or off, near the rehab floor. A bottle in the rehab room comes out tonight. A Sukoon adds mist to a room that runs warm and damp and comes out too. A Vaayu on the reception side stays where it is, is turned down a step or two so the rehab floor receives nothing nameable, and its key-lock goes on so nobody on a warm evening turns it back up. It is never moved toward the rehab floor to "reach" the smell, because the smell is not reachable and a moving patient breathes more of whatever arrives. One machine for reception and open rehab is where the Vaayu belongs once the room is fixed; why adding scent makes the environment worse is the layering problem this card is avoiding.
Rule: turning a machine up to deal with a smell is the one adjustment this cluster never allows. If in doubt, off.
5
The third smell
Sweat plus fragrance is a new smell, unfamiliar, and in a clinic an unfamiliar smell reads as something hidden
The reason more fragrance fails is not that it is too weak. It is that the nose does not subtract. Occupancy odour and a cedar register arriving together are received as one new smell that has no name, and a smell with no name in a medical building is read as a cover-up - by the patient on the treadmill, by the relative in the doorway, and eventually by the owner who stands on the rehab floor at six instead of at the desk. The clinic that smells of people is honest; the clinic that smells of people and pine is trying something. A trace of the reception scent arriving over a room that smells of nothing is the only combination that reads as a well-kept building, and it is earned by the first three cards. Disinfectant, upholstery and fragrance is the same arithmetic with three ingredients; what to fix first is the order.
Test: stand in the doorway at six with the machine up, then with it off. If off is better, and it will be, leave it off until the room is fixed.
The SOSA principle
Odour and fragrance do not cancel; they add. Sweat plus pine is a third smell nobody has met before, and in a clinic a smell nobody has met before reads as something being hidden. Increase the air, the wiping and the laundry. Turn the fragrance down.
This page sells nothing. The right machine exists, for the reception side, for later; buying it this month is buying the mistake.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Reception only, and only if reception has nothing: Mountain Breeze - Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar, ₹849 for 50ml at the desk with three reeds in; never in the rehab room, where it would sit at nose height over a smell it cannot cover.

What you smell at six, and what to increase for each

The rehab floor at six on a full day produces one of a few answers. Each maps to one of the three increases; none of them maps to a fragrance setting, and the last row is the only one with a SOSA product in it.

The six o'clock smell
What the rehab floor smells of at six, and what to increase instead of the fragrance
What you smell at six What to increase - and what the machine does
People, warmth, sweat
Air changes: contractor visit, fresh-air intake, an hour of AC either side of opening. Machine: down or off near the rehab floor.
Towels, fabric, foam
Laundry turnover: covers per session, lidded bin out before six, wipeable covers. Machine: off; a bottle in the room comes out tonight.
Rubber, vinyl, handles
Wipe-down frequency: between patients, end of day with ventilation after, weekly deep clean, residue-free product. Machine: off during and after the clean.
Sweat and pine, or sweat and lemon - the third smell
You have already turned it up. Turn it off, do the three increases, and do not turn it back on until the room passes a week of six o'clock tests.
Cleaner over sweat
The product or the timing is wrong: move the clean after hours, ventilate after it, review the product with whoever chooses it. Machine: off.
SOSA VaayuNothing in particular, for a week
The room has passed. Now, and only now, read the large rehab area page. A Vaayu on the reception side, placed so the rehab floor receives a trace, is the right purchase then - never a machine in this room and never a level chosen to reach it. View →

The last row leads to scenting a clinic with a large rehabilitation area, which is the two-stage method, and to what a combined centre should smell like for the register that arrives as a trace; the diary that gets a room from the first five rows to the last is finding the source of a persistent odour. SOSA makes no claim that fragrance reduces pain, anxiety or stress, affects outcomes, or does anything to occupancy odour except add to it; the three increases are the answer and the scent is not on the list.

SOSA Vaayu
For later, on the reception side: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - the right machine for the reception wall of a connected centre once the rehab floor smells of nothing; placed so the floor receives a trace by distance, key-locked so nobody turns it up over sweat.
Two weeks of six o'clock notes, then a plan
Do the three increases, write down what the rehab floor smells of at six each day for two weeks, and send the notes with a floor plan. If the room has passed we will say what a trace looks like; if it has not, we will say so and sell you nothing.
Read the large rehab area page Book a scenting plan
The owner stands at the desk and turns the machine up because from the desk it works. I stand on the rehab floor at six and smell sweat and cedar, and I would rather smell the sweat. Off, please, until the laundry and the air have done their job.

When the rehab floor smells of nothing at six for a week, the specification changes and the large rehab area page is where it is written. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating, with no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress or affects outcomes. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and infection control, never instead of them, and it never covers occupancy odour - it adds to it. Procedure rooms, injection suites, fluoroscopy rooms and recovery bays stay unscented, the consultation cabin is the doctor's call, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan - the physiotherapist's call on the rehab floor included. If you need the AC contractor before you need us, say so and we will not sell you anything.

A note from Sonal

This is the email I receive most often from rehab centres, and it is the one I answer most bluntly, because the owner has already decided what to buy and is asking me to confirm it. The rehab floor smells of people by six; would a stronger setting, or a second machine nearer the floor, deal with it. No. I have stood on that floor with the machine turned up and smelled sweat and cedar together, and I promise you it is worse than sweat.

What I ask for instead is two weeks of notes. Empty the towel bin before six, run the AC for an hour after closing, call the contractor about fresh-air intake, put a name on the wipe rota, and each evening stand in the middle of the floor and write down what it smells of. In most centres the notes change by the end of the first week and the owner has spent nothing on me. When they read 'nothing in particular' for seven days, we talk about a trace of scent arriving from the reception side - and even then, the rehab floor gets less than the desk, always.

So this page sells nothing, on purpose. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the right machine for the reception wall of a fixed centre and the wrong one for a rehab floor that smells of people; I would rather you bought it in two months than tonight. And as on every page: fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating. I make no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress or changes any outcome, and it is never a substitute for ventilation or cleaning. Procedure rooms stay unscented, the cabin is the doctor's call, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan, including mine. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

If I switch the machine off, will patients not notice the sweat smell more?
They already notice it; what they noticed with the machine on was sweat and fragrance together, which reads as a cover-up. A room that smells of people is honest and is fixed by air, wiping and laundry within a fortnight. A room that smells of people and pine has told everyone that something is being hidden. Switch off near the rehab floor, do the three increases, and let the reception scent return as a trace by distance once the floor smells of nothing at six for a week.
Would a stronger or fresher fragrance cut through occupancy odour better than the reception scent?
No fragrance cuts through odour; every fragrance adds to it. A fresher or sweeter scent chosen for the rehab room is chosen to cover what the room smells of, and a person on a treadmill breathing several times the air of a seated patient meets the combination hardest. The register for the whole building stays the reception register, and the rehab floor receives it as a trace by distance or not at all. There is no gym scent in the SOSA range, and this page would not sell it if there were.
My rehab area smells fine in the morning - is that not proof the fragrance is working?
It is proof the room has not been used yet. Every rehab floor passes at nine; the six o'clock test is the only one that counts, judged from the middle of the floor by someone who does not work there. Keep a two-week diary of what the room smells of at six while you increase the air changes, the wipe-down and the laundry turnover. The morning result never changes; the evening result is the one that tells you whether the three increases have worked.
How long should the machine stay down before I can bring it back up?
It does not come back up; it comes back to the level the rehab floor allows, which is under the reception level. Once the floor has smelled of nothing at six for a week, a machine on the reception side returns to a setting judged from the middle of the rehab floor - down one step at a time until you cannot name the scent - and is key-locked there. A machine that was in or beside the rehab room does not return at all. Never adjust it to reach the rehab floor; the floor is entitled to a trace.
Will SOSA sell me a Vaayu for the rehab floor if I insist?
Not for the rehab floor, and not this month. A Vaayu is the right machine for the reception wall of a connected centre once the rehab floor is fixed, placed so the floor receives a trace by distance; bought now for the rehab floor it becomes the machine that is turned up over sweat. SOSA makes no claim that fragrance reduces pain, anxiety, stress or affects outcomes, and no claim that it covers occupancy odour - it adds to it. Call the AC contractor first; the physiotherapist's judgement on the floor overrides any plan.
SOSA Vaayu
For later, not for this: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - the right machine for the reception wall of a connected centre once the rehab floor smells of nothing at six for a week; never in the rehab room, never turned up to reach it.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks, not medical approval. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment; refill supply should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB.
