✓ A bigger bottle buys months, not metres — 50ml lasts 6–8 weeks, 130ml lasts 14–18 ✓ More reeds is strength at the bottle, not distance from it ✓ One is genuinely enough in a studio under about 300 sq ft, or when you only want one room

The question almost always comes with a follow-up already attached: and if not, should I just get the bigger one? That follow-up is where the money gets wasted, because the two sizes differ in how long they last and barely at all in how far they reach. A 130ml is not a 50ml with a longer arm. It is a 50ml with a longer life. Which means the honest answer to one bottle for a whole 1BHK is no — and the fix is a second bottle, not a bigger first one.
Quick answers — read this first
Is one enough? No, for a standard 1BHK with a bedroom door and a bathroom door. One bottle scents one room.

Will the 130ml fix it? No. The 130ml lasts 14–18 weeks against 6–8 for a 50ml. Same radius, longer life.

When one IS enough: a studio under about 300 sq ft where you sleep and sit in the same air — or when you genuinely only want one room to smell good.

If it is one bottle: make it the bathroom. Morning Freshness 50ml, ₹749, two reeds, and the brief is finished.
The short answer
Short answer: no, not for a normal 1BHK. A reed diffuser has no fan and no mist — it scents a radius around itself and does not cross a shut door. One bottle in a flat with a bedroom door and a bathroom door leaves two of your three rooms untouched. The fix is two or three bottles, not one large one.
The pick if it really is one: Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749 in the bathroom on two reeds — smallest room, most enclosed, most visited, close to three months a bottle. If guests are the whole point instead, Garden Bloom 130ml at ₹1,299 in the living zone.
Do not buy: a 130ml in the hope of covering a second room. The extra 80ml is reservoir, not range — it feeds the same six reeds for longer. You are paying ₹500 for roughly two extra months in the room you already had, and the bedroom still smells of nothing.
Straight answer
Is one reed diffuser enough for a 1BHK?
1. No — because a shut door is an absolute barrier. A passive diffuser has no mechanism for moving air. Whatever is in your living room stays in your living room, and a closed bedroom door ends the conversation. A 1BHK has two doors. One bottle therefore serves one of three rooms, whichever room you put it in.

2. And no, the bigger bottle does not solve it. The 130ml at ₹1,299 lasts 14–18 weeks where the 50ml at ₹799 lasts 6–8. Both feed the same six fibre reeds, so both project about the same distance. You are buying time, not territory.

3. Nor does adding reeds. Six reeds instead of three raises the concentration close to the bottle and shortens its life. It does not push fragrance down a corridor. Reeds are a volume knob; there is no distance knob.

4. One IS enough in two situations. A studio under roughly 300 sq ft, where the bed and the sofa share one body of air — one 130ml placed between them genuinely does it. And when your actual brief is one room: plenty of people only ever wanted the bathroom to smell good, and that is a complete, respectable ₹749 project.

5. If you are stopping at one, choose by where you stand still. The bathroom for daily life, the living zone for guests, the bedside for yourself. Not the middle of the flat — the middle of a flat is the one place nobody stands.

TL;DR: one reed diffuser is not enough for a standard 1BHK, and a 130ml will not rescue it — the bigger bottle buys 14–18 weeks instead of 6–8, not extra reach. One is genuinely enough in a studio under about 300 sq ft, or when you only want one room done. Otherwise the second bottle, not the bigger bottle, is the upgrade.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint
The best single bottle in a 1BHK
SOSA Morning Freshness · 50ml ₹749
Real cold-pressed Malabar lemon over a peppermint heart and a eucalyptus base — clean rather than the synthetic citral most fresheners default to. In a 50 sq ft bathroom on two reeds it runs close to three months. The cheapest bottle in the range and the one that changes the most in a small flat. Also in 130ml at ₹1,249 for a kitchen.

Reach and longevity are two different things, and only one is for sale

This is the single most useful thing to understand about reed diffusers, and almost nothing in the category explains it. Fragrance leaves a reed diffuser by evaporating off the exposed ends of the sticks. The rate at which it leaves is governed by the surface area of exposed reed, the temperature of the room and the air moving past — not by how much oil is sitting in the bottle underneath. A 130ml and a 50ml with the same six reeds in the same room evaporate at very nearly the same rate. The 130ml simply has more oil to lose, so it takes 14–18 weeks to empty where the 50ml takes 6–8.

Which means the upgrade path people instinctively reach for is the wrong one. Somebody buys a 50ml, finds it does not reach the bedroom, and concludes they under-bought. They spend ₹500 more on the 130ml and discover, six weeks later, that the bedroom still smells of nothing and the only difference is that they have not had to reorder. That is not a bad outcome — 14–18 weeks for ₹1,299 is genuinely better value per week than 6–8 for ₹799 — but it is not what they were buying. The reason to move to a 130ml is that the room is large, above roughly 150 sq ft, so it can carry more projection without becoming heavy. It is not so the bottle can be heard next door.

The same logic sinks the other instinctive fix, which is stuffing every reed in. Six fibre reeds in a small bedroom raise the concentration in the two feet around the bottle and burn through the oil faster. They do not extend the radius meaningfully, because the limiting factor at a distance is not how much is evaporating but how quickly it disperses into a much larger volume of air. If you take one thing from this piece: reeds and bottle size are both volume controls, aimed at the same spot. Neither of them is a range control, because a reed diffuser does not have one.

The three ways a single bottle fails in a 1BHK

1
FAILURE ONE · THE SHUT DOOR
Two of your three rooms are sealed for most of the day
SOSA Evening Calm reed diffuserEvening Calm₹799A bathroom door is shut essentially always. A bedroom door is shut all night and usually much of the day. Whatever you put in the living room is, for practical purposes, in a separate building from both. This is not a strength problem that a stronger fragrance would solve; it is a boundary, and no passive diffuser crosses one. The bedroom is also the room where a fragrance does its most personal work — you are in it for eight consecutive hours — which is why Evening Calm at ₹799 on three reeds is the second bottle I recommend more often than any other.
The test: stand in the doorway of the room without a bottle and shut it. That is what one diffuser buys you.
2
FAILURE TWO · THE CENTRAL PLACEMENT
The middle of a flat is the one spot nobody occupies
Given one bottle, people put it in the geometric centre of the home, usually on a passage console or a shelf where the rooms meet, because central feels fair. It is the worst position available. Corridors and junctions have constant air movement and nobody stands still in them, so the fragrance is both dispersed and unwitnessed. A reed diffuser only registers on somebody who is stationary within a few feet of it for more than a moment. Move the same bottle to the basin, or the bedside, or the table beside the sofa, and it goes from invisible to noticed without a rupee spent. Central is not neutral. Central is nowhere.
The rule: place it where you sit, sleep or stand — never where you walk.
3
FAILURE THREE · THE DRAUGHT
One bottle under a fan is half a bottle
A single bottle has no redundancy, so where it stands matters far more than it would in a three-bottle flat. Directly under a ceiling fan or in the throw of a split AC, the top notes are stripped within days and what is left reads as a flat base — the common complaint that a diffuser "smelled lovely for a week". Direct sun does the same thing faster and also heats the oil. An open window opposite a door creates a cross-draught that empties a bottle noticeably quicker. Get the bottle a metre off the floor, out of the airflow, out of the sun, with clear space around it, and a single 50ml will do six to eight honest weeks in one room. That is the ceiling of what one bottle can do — but it should at least reach it.

When one reed diffuser genuinely is enough

There are real cases where one is the right answer and I would rather say so than sell a second bottle into a home that does not need it. The table below is the honest version — the layouts and the briefs where a single bottle finishes the job, and the ones where it will always be a partial answer no matter how it is placed.

One-bottle verdict
Where a single reed diffuser is complete, and where it is not
Your situation Is one enough? What to do Cost
Studio under about 300 sq ft ★ Yes One 130ml, all six reeds, placed between the bed and the seating rather than at either end ₹1,299
You only want the bathroom done ★ Yes Morning Freshness 50ml, two reeds, beside the basin. Close to three months ₹749
You only want guests to notice Yes, just Garden Bloom 130ml on the entrance side of the living room, six reeds ₹1,299
Standard 1BHK, whole flat ★ No Two doors means two sealed rooms. Two bottles minimum, three ideally ₹1,498 · ₹2,847
1BHK with a closed kitchen No A cooking kitchen defeats a distant bottle entirely. Its own 130ml citrus, plus an extractor ₹1,249
You bought one and it "stopped working" Probably placement Move it out of the fan, out of the sun, off the passage. Flip the reeds. Then judge ₹0
Note on the studio case: under about 300 sq ft with no internal door, one 130ml between the two ends works. Above that, or with a partition wall, you are back to two placements of the same fragrance — which is the two-bottle answer, not a failure of the first bottle.

If it is one bottle — pick by the room you stand still in
The SOSA principle
A bigger bottle buys you months, not metres. If the problem is the next room, the answer is another bottle.
50ml lasts 6–8 weeks; 130ml lasts 14–18. Both project the same distance off the same six reeds. Size is a longevity decision and a room-size decision — never a range decision.

Getting everything a single bottle has to give

If one is where you are starting, it is worth extracting the full six to eight weeks rather than the four most people get. Place it about a metre off the floor with clear air around it, on the side of the room you actually occupy — not centred, not on the passage console, not on a windowsill. Keep it out of the direct path of a ceiling fan and a split AC; a bottle in a draught loses its top notes first and reads as flat and slightly sour within a fortnight, which is the origin of nearly every "it stopped smelling" message I receive. Keep it out of direct sun, which both heats the oil and fades it.

Then flip the reeds saturated-end up every three to five days. That is the whole routine. Flipping more often gives you more projection and a shorter bottle; a weekly flip gives you a steady, quieter level that lasts. With one bottle I would flip on a fixed day rather than when you notice it has gone quiet, because by the time you notice, you have already spent a week under-scenting the room. And start at the reed count you intend to keep — three in a bedroom, two in a bathroom, six only in a living zone — rather than putting all six in and adjusting downwards, since a small room that has been over-scented takes several days to settle even after reeds come out.

When the bottle reaches roughly 80% empty, refill rather than replace. A 500ml refill at ₹3,499 is ₹7 per ml and gives ten 50ml fills — about ₹350 a fill against ₹749 for a new bottle — and the glass is designed for it. Change the reeds when you refill; saturated reeds stop wicking cleanly and are the second most common cause of a diffuser that seems to have given up. If after all of that the flat still feels half-done, it is not the bottle. It is the door.

People do not under-buy strength. They under-buy places — and then blame the bottle for not being in two of them.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA

What the second bottle actually costs

The arithmetic in full, with every total checked. The useful comparison is not 50ml against 130ml — it is one bottle against two, because that is the decision that changes what the flat feels like rather than how often you reorder.

One bottle, or two
Four routes, with the real totals
Route What you get What it actually does Total
One small Morning Freshness 50ml ₹749 One room, 6–8 weeks — up to 12 in a bathroom on two reeds ₹749
One large Garden Bloom 130ml ₹1,299 Still one room — but 14–18 weeks, and better suited above 150 sq ft ₹1,299
Two small ★ Day & Night duo, 2 × 50ml — saves ₹50 on the singles Two rooms — the bedroom and the bathroom, the two you occupy ₹1,498
The full flat ₹1,299 + ₹799 + ₹749 Living-dining, bedroom and bathroom — the complete 1BHK kit ₹2,847
Running cost 300ml refill ₹2,399 · 500ml ₹3,499 500ml is ten 50ml fills — roughly ₹350 a fill from ₹2,399
Honest notes before you buy: the ₹500 gap between a 50ml and a 130ml buys longevity and suitability for a bigger room — it does not buy reach, and no amount of it will get fragrance under a shut door. If your flat feels half-scented, the ₹749 second bottle fixes it and the ₹1,299 upgrade does not. Duo sets save ₹50 against the same two bottles bought separately: Day & Night ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom ₹1,598. Reed oil is a different formulation from the water-based Hotel Collection used in the Sukoon and Boond; the two lines are not interchangeable in either direction. Keep the oil above the reach of children and pets and off surfaces a spill would mark. Every purchase funds a girl's education through Nanhi Kali.
SOSA Garden Bloom reed diffuser 130ml
When the 130ml is the right call
SOSA Garden Bloom · 130ml ₹1,299
Buy the larger size because the room is above 150 sq ft, or because you would rather refill three times a year than eight — both good reasons. Not because you are hoping it will reach the bedroom. British rose over night-blooming jasmine, 14–18 weeks on six reeds, refillable glass. Also in 50ml at ₹799.

A note from Sonal

The message I get most often about a single reed diffuser is not it is too weak. It is "it works in that room but not anywhere else" — which is not a complaint at all. It is an accurate description of what a reed diffuser does, written by somebody who was expecting something different.

I think the category has earned that confusion. Everything is marketed in millilitres, so millilitres feel like the thing you are buying more of, and more of a thing ought to mean more of an effect. With reeds it means more weeks. The 130ml is a wonderful bottle and I would pick it every time for a living room — because that room is large enough to carry it and because three refills a year beats eight. Never because it might be heard through a wall.

So if you are here deciding between the ₹749 and the ₹1,299 in the hope that the second one solves your flat: it will not, and I would rather you spent the ₹500 difference on a second small bottle for the room that currently has nothing. If your flat is a small studio, or your brief really is one room, then one is enough and you should buy one and stop. Every purchase funds a girl's education through Nanhi Kali, whichever size you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Is one reed diffuser enough for a 1BHK?
Not for a standard 1BHK with a bedroom door and a bathroom door — one bottle scents one room, because a passive diffuser cannot cross a shut door. It is enough in a studio under roughly 300 sq ft, or when you genuinely only want one room done. Otherwise the honest minimum is two, and three is the full answer.
Will a bigger reed diffuser cover more of my flat?
No. A 130ml and a 50ml feed the same six fibre reeds and evaporate at close to the same rate, so they project about the same distance. The 130ml simply holds more oil, which is why it lasts 14–18 weeks against 6–8. Buy the larger size for a large room or for fewer refills — never for reach.
Will using more reeds make it reach the next room?
No. Extra reeds raise the concentration close to the bottle and shorten its life; they do not extend the radius in any useful way, because at a distance the limit is dispersion into a much larger volume of air rather than the rate of evaporation. Reeds are a volume control. A reed diffuser has no range control — that is what a second bottle is.
Where should the one bottle go if I only buy one?
Wherever you stop moving. The bathroom if you want it to improve daily life — smallest, most enclosed, most visited, and a 50ml on two reeds runs close to three months there. The living zone if guests are the point, placed on the entrance side rather than the far corner. The bedside if the fragrance is for you. Never the passage or the geometric centre of the flat, where the air moves and nobody stands.
My one reed diffuser stopped smelling after two weeks. Do I need a bigger one?
Almost certainly not. Two weeks is the classic signature of a draught — a ceiling fan, a split AC or a cross-breeze stripping the top notes — or of reeds that have never been flipped. Move it out of the airflow and out of direct sun, flip the reeds saturated-end up, and give it three days. If it revives, placement was the problem. A bigger bottle in the same bad spot would have faded at the same rate, just for longer.
