If you are opening a premium pain management centre and the budget is still a spreadsheet, ambient scenting belongs on it now, as one line under interiors next to the lighting - not as a marketing line, and not as something to think about after opening. Put a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the fit-out budget, put its wall or HVAC position on the drawing while the walls are still lines, and the whole layer is settled before the first patient arrives.
Quick answers — read this first
I am opening a premium pain management centre - should ambient scenting be part of my setup budget? Yes, as an interiors line item, budgeted with the lighting and specified at the same stage. The purchase is small - one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 for a connected reception, waiting area and corridor of about 1,500-3,000 sq ft, or a reed at Rs 749-849 if the reception is one seating zone - but the reason to budget it now rather than later is placement: a power point and a wall position high on the wall patients face, away from the AC supply and return and far from the procedure door, cost nothing at fit-out and are awkward afterwards.
Why not add it after opening? Because after opening the socket is wherever the electrician left one, the AC grilles are fixed, and the procedure door is where it is. A scent machine placed by whichever socket is free ends up by the door, by the return grille or in the corridor mouth - the four wrong places - and no setting fixes a wrong position. Ten minutes with the architect at design stage puts a socket on the right wall and, if the reception zone has its own duct, lets you choose an HVAC mount. That is the whole reason this belongs in the setup budget.
What should the line say? One waterless scent machine, wall or HVAC mounted, reception zone only; one power point high on the patient-facing wall; register Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness by interior. Nothing for the procedure rooms, injection suite, C-arm room or recovery, which stay unscented; nothing in the cabins, which are each doctor's call. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating - it does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress or affect outcomes, and SOSA makes no claim that it affects bookings, retention or spend. The clinician's judgement overrides any plan.
The short answer
Short answer: yes - as one line under interiors, budgeted with the lighting, because the thing you are really buying at this stage is a wall position and a socket, and those are free on a drawing and expensive after handover. No claim that scenting affects bookings, retention or spend.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a connected reception, waiting area and corridor of about 1,500-3,000 sq ft, wall or HVAC mounted from a position marked at design stage; one Mountain Breeze (₹849) or Morning Freshness (₹749) reed if the reception will be one seating zone.
Next step: send the draft floor plan with the procedure door and the AC grilles marked and we will return it with the machine position and the register - ask for a clinic scenting plan.
I am opening a premium pain management centre - should ambient scenting be part of my setup budget?
Yes, and the reason has less to do with the machine than with the wall it hangs on. The machine - one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a connected reception, waiting area and corridor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft - can be bought on any day of the year. What can only be bought at design stage is its position: a power point high on the wall the patients will face, away from the AC supply and return, and as far as the plan allows from the procedure door and the corridor that leads to it. After handover the socket is wherever the electrician left one, the grilles are fixed, and the machine ends up by the door, by the return or in the corridor mouth, which are three of the four wrong places, and no intensity setting corrects a wrong position. So the line on the setup budget is really two things: a small purchase and a free decision, and the free decision is the one with the deadline. Budget it under interiors, next to the lighting, and specify it at the same meeting, because the two are decided the same way - by the room, not by any promise. SOSA makes no claim that scenting affects bookings, retention or spend, and a new centre's budget should not carry it on that basis any more than it carries the lighting on that basis; it carries it because a premium reception should smell the way it looks from the first day. What the line should say is short. One waterless scent machine, wall or HVAC mounted, reception zone only. One power point on the patient-facing wall at about door-head height. If the reception zone has its own supply duct, a note to the AC contractor that an HVAC mount may be wanted, with the facilities engineer's agreement; how central AC affects fragrance distribution across a pain clinic explains why the duct matters. The register, read off the finishes once they are chosen: Mountain Breeze - pine, sage, cedar - for wood, stone and warm light; Morning Freshness - Malabar lemon, mint, eucalyptus - for white walls, glass and cool light. And, as important as what is on the line, what is not: nothing for the procedure rooms, injection suite, fluoroscopy or C-arm room and recovery bay, which stay unscented by rule and are placed on the drawing so that no machine's air reaches them; nothing in the consultation cabins, which are each doctor's own call and are best left to inherit a trace through an open door. If the centre will exceed about 3,000 sq ft of one connected volume, the line changes to one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) rather than two Vaayus in the same air; if the reception will be one seating zone, it changes to a reed at ₹749-849 and the wall position is not needed at all. The level is set after opening, not before - for the slowest person who will cross reception, judged from a chair at four in the afternoon in the finished room, and then locked. Everything on this page is an ambience decision like lighting or seating: it does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress, it does not affect outcomes, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan, including this one and including the drawing. The whole-centre version of this conversation - ventilation, cleaning, fragrance-free zones, airflow and scent planned together - is designing a multidisciplinary pain centre from scratch; the one-question version for the architect is whether the architect should plan the machine position; and if this is your second site, whether both locations should share a signature fragrance is the page before this one.
Yes - one line under interiors, with the lighting: a SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) for a connected patient-facing floor, or a reed (Rs 749-849) for one seating zone. What you buy at design stage is the wall position and the socket. No claim about pain, stress, outcomes, bookings or spend.
For a new centre whose reception, waiting area and corridor will connect into roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, 1000m³, wall or HVAC mount, timer and key-lock - is the interiors line, and the socket that feeds it is the design-stage decision.
The same line on two very different budgets, decided by how much connected patient-facing floor the drawing shows. The images link to the product pages so every figure can be checked.
A connected reception, waiting and corridor of ~1,500-3,000 sq ft
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit, Rs 11,999. Wall or HVAC mount, which is why it is specified at design stage: a socket high on the patient-facing wall, or a note to the AC contractor about the reception duct, costs nothing now. 1h/4h/8h/24h timer, adjustable intensity, key-lock, under 38dB, no water, tank running roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours. Electricity about 1.5 units a month on a ten-hour day.
HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³ - about 8,000-10,000 sq ft - with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB, Rs 25,999. HVAC-connected or standalone wall-mount. Named here only for the large multidisciplinary centre whose patient-facing floor is one big volume of air; two Vaayus in the same air is never the answer, and the duct connection is a design-stage decision with the facilities engineer.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, Rs 11,999. Adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock, auto-stop, under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W. Freestanding, wall or HVAC mount - specify the socket position on the drawing. CE, RoHS and SGS certified - electrical and compliance marks only. Made in India. Refill supply: confirm with SOSA.
Four decisions that are free on a drawing and awkward after handover. The machine itself is the least of them and can wait until the walls are painted.
1
The wall and the socket
High on the wall patients face, away from grilles, far from the clinical door
The one thing a setup budget buys that an opened clinic cannot is a correct position. There are four wrong places for a scent machine in a reception - by the entrance door, where the draught takes it out or blasts it in; by the AC return, which pulls it straight back; on or beside the desk at nose height; and in the mouth of the corridor to the cabins and procedure rooms, where it travels exactly where it must not - and one right place: high on the wall the seated patients face, away from supply and return, on the far side of reception from the procedure door. That position needs a power point at about door-head height, and a power point is a pencil mark now and a chased wall later. Ask the architect for it in the same breath as the lighting layout. Where to place a scent machine in a pain-clinic reception shows the four wrong places on a plan.
Ask the architect: "one socket, high, on the wall the chairs face, not near a grille and not near the corridor." That is the whole request.
2
The duct
If the reception zone has its own supply, an HVAC mount becomes possible
The second design-stage decision is whether the reception zone will be served by its own AC supply. If it is - its own cassette or its own duct run, with a return that does not also serve the clinical rooms - then an HVAC mount for the Vaayu becomes an option, and the supply air carries one even level across the whole patient-facing floor without any visible unit at all. If the reception shares a duct with the procedure corridor, an HVAC mount is ruled out, because scent introduced upstream of a clinical room's supply reaches that room, and the wall mount on the reception side is the answer. Neither of these is a scenting decision on its own; both are AC-layout decisions the contractor is making anyway, and the ask is only that the reception zone be separable. The facilities engineer's agreement governs any duct connection. HVAC layout and where scent goes is the page to hand the AC contractor.
Rule: HVAC mount only if the duct serves the patient-facing zone alone. Otherwise, wall mount on the reception side, and the door discipline does the rest.
3
The threshold on the drawing
Mark the procedure door now, and keep every source outside its air
A pain centre has a line most clinics do not: the procedure door. On the patient side of it the building is hospitality; on the clinical side it is medicine, and the procedure room, injection suite, fluoroscopy or C-arm room and recovery bay stay completely unscented - not lightly scented, unscented. At design stage this is a drawing exercise: mark the door, mark which grilles serve the rooms behind it, and place the reception machine so that neither the supply air nor the corridor pull carries scent past the line. The way to keep a clinical room fragrance-free is placement, air pressure and door discipline, never a lower setting inside. Pre- and post-procedure waiting, if the plan has such a room, sits on the clinical side of the line however lounge-like it looks. The consultation cabins sit between the two, and each is that doctor's own call; the house recommendation is nothing placed inside and a trace inherited through the open door. Which areas of a pain clinic should be kept fragrance-free is the list to check the drawing against.
The Vaayu is placed on the reception side of the threshold, from a position marked on the drawing - which is what keeps the clinical rooms clean.
Read the register off the finishes; set the level after opening, from a chair
Two things are not settled at design stage, and it is worth saying which. The register follows the finishes, so it can be chosen the day the finishes are: Mountain Breeze for wood, stone, beige and warm light; Morning Freshness for white walls, glass, steel and cool light; nothing sweet, floral or lavender-led in a specialist practice, because a pain centre that is designed to read as medicine must not open smelling like a spa. The level, though, is set only in the finished room, with the chairs in and the AC running: your patients will cross reception slowly and sit for a long time, so set it for the slowest walker, noticed at the door and forgotten by the chair, judged from a seat at four in the afternoon, and then lock it. If any patient objects, the desk's answer is reduce or switch off, never to defend it. How to choose a signature scent for a pain clinic is the five-step method for the weeks after opening.
Sequence: register with the finishes, position with the lighting, machine at handover, level in the finished room, lock it.
The SOSA principle
A scent machine goes on a new centre's setup budget for the sake of a socket and a wall, because the machine can be bought any day and the position can only be bought on the drawing.
Interiors line, with the lighting. Mark the procedure door, mark the grilles, choose the wall, add the socket. The rest waits for the finished room.
The setup-budget line, specified once: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, wall or HVAC mount from a position marked at design stage, timer and key-lock, up to 1000m³ of connected reception, waiting and corridor.
The setup budget, line by line, with scent in its place
Here is the interiors section of a new centre's budget with the scent line where it belongs, and what each line needs from the drawing. The clinical section is included so you can see that scent has no line in it.
The SOSA budget table
Where ambient scenting sits on a new pain centre's setup budget
The budget line
What it needs from the drawing, and what it costs
Lighting - warm-white in reception and waiting, cool in the cabins and clinical rooms
A layout at design stage. Decided by the room, not by any promise - and the scent line is decided the same way, in the same meeting.
Ambient scenting - reception zone only
One socket high on the patient-facing wall, away from grilles and the clinical door; a note to the AC contractor if the reception duct is separable. One Vaayu, ₹11,999, at handover.
Ambient scenting - if reception is one seating zone
No socket, no wall position. One Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness reed at the desk, ₹749-849, on opening day. The machine line is deleted.
Ambient scenting - if the patient-facing floor exceeds ~3,000 sq ft of one volume
A duct connection agreed with the facilities engineer at design stage. One Angaan, ₹25,999 - never two Vaayus in the same air.
No scent line at all. These rooms stay unscented by rule; the drawing places the reception machine so that no air path reaches them. The cabins carry no line either - each is the doctor's call.
For the owner who has already opened and is looking back at a finished fit-out, whether scent is worth adding after a fifteen-lakh interior is the after-handover version of this page. For a brand planning several sites at once, standardising ambient fragrance across a multi-location spine and pain brand turns this budget line into a one-page standard. And the family pillar, solo specialist or large centre, decides whether the line should say "Vaayu" or "reed" for your size. SOSA makes no claim that any line on this budget affects pain, anxiety, stress, outcomes, bookings, retention or spend; the table is about a room being specified properly, and nothing more.
If the drawing shows a reception that is one seating zone: one Mountain Breeze reed at the desk, ₹849 for 50ml, on opening day - and no socket, no wall position and no machine line on the budget.
One line under interiors - the socket now, the machine at handover
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 covers up to 1000m³ on one unit, wall or HVAC mounted. Send the draft plan with the procedure door and the grilles marked and we will return it with the position.
Budget the scent machine with the lighting, not with the marketing. What you are really paying for at this stage is a socket on the right wall, and that is free on a drawing.

The SOSA new-centre specification
The interiors line for ambient scenting, sized from the draft plan
A SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is the water-based rung for one open waiting area of 300-750 sq ft; between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water and distribution - never for coverage. Nothing on this table is placed on the clinical side of the procedure door. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating, with no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress or affects outcomes, and no claim that it affects bookings, retention or spend. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and infection control, never instead of them. Procedure rooms stay unscented, the consultation cabins are each doctor's call, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan, including the drawing. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and send the draft plan.

A note from Sonal
The best time anyone has ever asked me about scenting a pain centre was when the walls were still lines on a sheet. Everything I usually have to work around - the socket by the door, the return grille above the only free wall, the corridor that pulls air straight toward the procedure room - was still movable. We put one pencil mark on the wall the chairs would face, wrote "socket, high" next to it, and asked the AC contractor whether the reception cassette could be on its own run. That was the whole conversation, and it took less time than choosing the door handles.
So my answer to the budget question is yes, and the reason is not the machine. Budget it with the lighting because it is decided like the lighting, by the room; and specify it now because the position, not the purchase, is the part with a deadline. I make no claim that it affects bookings, retention or spend, and a new centre should not carry it on the budget for that reason. It should carry it because a premium reception should smell the way it looks on the first morning, at a level set for the slowest person who will cross it, and stopped at a door you have already marked.
The boundaries are drawn before the walls are. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating, and I make no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress or changes any outcome, and no claim that it affects bookings, retention or spend.Procedure rooms, the injection suite, the C-arm room and recovery stay unscented, and the plan places the machine so their air is never reached. The cabins are each doctor's own. The clinician's judgement overrides any plan, including the one on the drawing. One Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the marked wall for a connected floor; a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 if reception is one seating zone and the socket is not needed at all. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Which budget heading should ambient scenting sit under when opening a pain centre?
Interiors, next to the lighting, and specified at the same meeting. It is decided the same way the lighting is - by the room - and not by any commercial promise, because SOSA makes no claim that scenting affects bookings, retention or spend. The line reads: one waterless scent machine, wall or HVAC mounted, reception zone only, with one socket high on the patient-facing wall.
What exactly should I ask the architect to add to the plan for a scent machine?
One power point at about door-head height on the wall the seated patients will face, away from the AC supply and return grilles and as far as the plan allows from the procedure door and the corridor to it. If the reception zone can have its own AC run, say so, because that makes an HVAC mount possible later. It is a pencil mark now and a chased wall after handover.
Should a new pain centre buy the scent machine before or after opening?
Buy the position before and the machine at handover. The Vaayu at Rs 11,999 can be bought any day; the wall, the socket and the duct decision can only be made on the drawing. Set the level only in the finished room with the chairs in and the AC running - for the slowest person who will cross reception, judged from a chair at four in the afternoon - and then lock it.
When does a new centre's budget line change from a SOSA Vaayu to an Angaan?
When the patient-facing floor - reception, waiting area and corridor as one connected volume of air - exceeds about 3,000 sq ft. Then the line becomes one SOSA Angaan at Rs 25,999, HVAC-connected with the facilities engineer's agreement, and never two Vaayus in the same air. Below about 1,500 sq ft the line becomes a reed or a Sukoon, and the socket is not needed.
Is budgeting for ambient scent at setup a way of planning for better patient results?
No, and SOSA makes no such claim. It is an interiors decision like the lighting layout: fragrance does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress, it does not affect treatment outcomes, and it does not affect bookings, retention or spend. It is budgeted so that reception smells the way it looks from the first morning. Procedure rooms stay unscented by rule and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan, including the drawing.
Specified with the lighting, bought at handover: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, wall or HVAC mount from the position marked on the drawing, for reception, waiting and corridor only.
SOSA — Clinic Scentingwhether ambient scenting belongs in a new pain centre's setup budget
Yes - as one line under interiors, next to the lighting: a SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) wall or HVAC mounted from a socket marked at design stage for a connected reception, waiting area and corridor; Mountain Breeze (₹849) or Morning Freshness (₹749) alone if reception is one seating zone; one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) above about 3,000 sq ft of one volume. Clinical rooms stay unscented and the cabins are each doctor's call. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks, not medical approval. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment; refill supply should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for a single room of roughly 270-320 sq ft. SOSA reed diffusers - Morning Freshness (₹749 / ₹1,249) and Mountain Breeze (₹849 / ₹1,349), or the two together as the Fresh & Grounded duo (₹1,548 / ₹2,548) - are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with a 50ml bottle lasting 6-8 weeks and a 130ml bottle 14-18 weeks. No SOSA product is a medical device. Ambient fragrance in a clinic is an interior and hospitality decision only: SOSA makes no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress, alters mood, improves patient outcomes, shortens perceived waiting time, purifies air or affects bookings, retention or spend, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or infection control. Where a patient is sensitive to fragrance the correct response is to reduce or switch off. Procedure and clinical rooms are left unscented, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation.
