Unisex is a label on a bottle, not a note inside it. What the word is usually reaching for is balance: nothing sweet enough to read as one thing, nothing smoky enough to read as another. Add clean, with a little warmth, and the brief becomes specific enough to shop against.
Quick answers — read this first
What makes an attar unisex, clean and a little warm? Clean comes from citrus, dry woods and a light musk. A little warmth comes from sandalwood and soft amber. What keeps it unisex is what is left out: no sweet vanilla or tonka, no tobacco or leather, no oud-led base.
Is there a musk and sandalwood attar in the SOSA range? Yes, by published pyramid. SOSA Ameeri, from ₹385 for 3ml, has Indian sandalwood in the heart and white musk in the base, with Taif rose above and soft oudh and amber underneath. White musk is never the subject.
What if I want it cleaner than Ameeri? Step back to SOSA Adaa, from ₹379 for 3ml: bergamot, cardamom and neroli over white musk, vetiver and cedarwood, with no oudh at all. Its warmth is small and its woods are dry.
The short answer
Short answer: Clean from citrus, dry wood and light musk; warmth from sandalwood and amber; nothing sweet, smoky or leathery. Ameeri has the sandalwood and musk.
The pick: One 3ml of SOSA Ameeri at ₹385, one dab, judged at hour three. SOSA Adaa at ₹379 is the cleaner second answer.
Next step: Tell us which two fragrances you do not want to resemble, and we will say which side of Ameeri you are on. Ask for an attar recommendation.
The brief as a dial. The top line is the clean end and the bottom line is the price of the 3ml, because the question is where on the dial you want to stand, and a 3ml settles that on your own skin.
Ameeri first, then the cleaner step back, then the warmer one
I Want a Refined Unisex Attar That Smells Clean With a Little Warmth — Which Musk and Sandalwood Compositions Might Suit Me?
Pyramids list notes, not genders, so the way to answer this is to turn each of your words into materials and see which attar holds them. Five steps, and the bottle comes out at the end.
1. Turn clean into materials. Citrus such as bergamot, white flowers such as neroli and jasmine, dry woods such as vetiver and cedarwood, and a light musk underneath. None of them is sweet, and none of them announces itself.
2. Turn a little warmth into two materials, not five. Sandalwood and soft amber are warm without being sugary. Vanilla, tonka, tobacco, leather and an oud-led base are warm in a much louder way, and they are where a fragrance stops being a little warm and starts being a statement.
3. Let unisex mean leaving out the extremes. In this range the two ends are SOSA Mastani, with its Madagascar vanilla and tonka, and SOSA Nawaab, which is oud-led with aged tobacco leaf and leather. Remove them and you are left with SOSA Ameeri and SOSA Adaa.
4. Read the words musk and sandalwood literally. Only SOSA Ameeri lists both: Indian sandalwood in the heart and white musk in the base, under Taif rose and over soft oudh and amber. White musk is a base note, and SOSA makes no musk on its own.
5. Take Ameeri, and know what else is in it.SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 also carries saffron, rose and some soft oudh. If that is more than a little warmth, SOSA Adaa at ₹379 is the cleaner answer, with no oudh at all.
What anyone else makes of it is theirs to say, and I will not speak for them. What I can tell you is what each attar is built from, and that the 3ml lets you find out where you sit on the dial for the price of a single bottle.
Clean is citrus, dry wood and light musk; a little warm is sandalwood and soft amber. SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 has the sandalwood and the musk; SOSA Adaa is the cleaner step back.
What to buy for clean with a little warmth
The product
SOSA Ameeri: Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot, Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, then soft oudh, amber and white musk. An alcohol-free roll-on oil on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, hand-blended in Pune.
The size to start on
The 3ml, at ₹385. The 6ml at ₹679 and the 12ml at ₹1,165 are for after a full season. A first 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379 alongside it is the honest way to find your place on the dial.
Dabs, and where
One dab, on the chest or the side of the neck, once you are dressed. One dab is a whisper and two is a sentence, and this reader wants the whisper.
At hour three
The saffron and bergamot have gone. By the published pyramid, what is left is sandalwood and white musk with a little amber and soft oudh under them: warm, woody, close to the skin.
What it costs to stay on it
Nothing beyond that first 3ml until you are sure. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin, and three ordinary days is the test; there is nothing to commit to in advance.
If I were choosing for the words you used, I would put you in Ameeri, because it is the only attar I make that lists sandalwood and white musk together. It has more in it than Adaa, and I will say so. A 3ml is how you find out whether that extra is a little warmth or a little too much.
Buy one 3ml of SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 and nothing else for now: Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot on top, Taif rose and Indian sandalwood in the heart, soft oudh, amber and white musk underneath. An alcohol-free roll-on oil, hand-blended in Pune, carrying some oudh. Apply one dab once you are dressed and judge it at hour three.
SOSA makes four attars, all alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-on oils on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. Two of them fit a clean-with-a-little-warmth brief, and the other two sit at the far ends of the dial on purpose. The cards below give the two that fit, and the feature says where the next one goes wrong.
₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml. Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. It carries some oudh, saffron and rose, so it is warmer than a purely clean scent. Of the four, it is the one that lists both sandalwood and white musk.
₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml. Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang, on white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The lightest of the four, with no oudh. Its woods are dry, not creamy, so the warmth is slight. Choose it if clean outranks warm.
₹389 for 3ml, ₹685 for 6ml, ₹1,179 for 12ml. Litchi, bergamot and pink pepper over night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose, on Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. The sandalwood is real and so is the vanilla, which takes it from a little warm to a floral-gourmand. A fine attar, and well beyond this brief.
Refined is a word about proportion, not a note you can buy. Each of these is a reason, visible on a pyramid, that a clean-and-warm attar stays balanced instead of tipping into sweet or smoky.
1
One
Warmth that is wood and amber, not sugar
Warmth in perfumery comes in two kinds. One is resinous and woody: sandalwood, amber, a little soft oud. The other is sweet and edible: vanilla, tonka, caramel-like accords. The first sits quietly and reads as depth. The second announces itself and reads as dessert. A clean reader who wants only a little warmth wants the first kind. Ameeri's warmth is sandalwood, amber and soft oudh. Mastani's includes Madagascar vanilla and tonka, which is why it belongs further along the dial.
Tip: Scan the base of any pyramid for vanilla, tonka or tobacco. One of them is enough to move it from a little warm to a lot.
Ameeri at ₹385 has sandalwood, amber and soft oudh as its warmth, with no vanilla or tonka anywhere in the published pyramid.
Musk is what stops a wood from turning heavy. In both Ameeri and Adaa the base carries white musk, and under sandalwood it softens the edges without adding sweetness. To be exact, white musk is a base note in Adaa, Ameeri and Nawaab, and never the whole composition: SOSA makes no musk on its own. It is the supporting material that lets a warm wood read as skin.
Tip: Do not search for a musk-only attar here. The musk is in the base of the ones that fit, which is exactly where it belongs for this brief.
Adaa at ₹379 puts the same white musk under vetiver and cedarwood instead of sandalwood, drier and with less warmth.
Refined means few loud materials, and knowing which ones
Count the loud things in a pyramid. Saffron, rose, oud, tobacco, leather and vanilla are the materials that announce themselves. Ameeri has three of the first group in measure: saffron, Taif rose and soft oudh. Adaa has none of them. Nawaab has several, and in quantity. That is not a ranking of quality; it is a count of how much is competing for attention. A refined attar, for this reader, is the one whose loud list is short.
Tip: If Ameeri's list is longer than you want, that is not a failure. It is the cue to start with Adaa instead.
Nawaab at ₹399 is oud-led, with aged tobacco leaf and leather over amber: the deepest of the four, and well past a little warmth.
Unisex, clean and a little warm are three ways of saying the same thing: a short list of loud materials, a light musk underneath, and a wood doing the warming that vanilla or tobacco would otherwise do.
That is why a pyramid can answer this question before you smell anything. Look at the heart and the base, count the materials that shout, and decide how many you can live with.
The one with both sandalwood and white musk listed: Ameeri at ₹385: Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. Alcohol-free, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, and carrying some oudh.
The table puts the four attars on the dial in order and says, from the published pyramid, what makes each stop where it does. Two rows fit the brief, one is a partial fit and one is where the dial runs out.
The SOSA plan
Four attars on the clean-to-warm dial, and why each one stops there
Where it sits on the dial
What the published pyramid says
Clean: nothing warm to speak of
Adaa. Citrus, cardamom, neroli, white flowers, then white musk with vetiver and cedarwood. No oudh. The warmth is the musk and little else. View →
Clean with a little warmth
Ameeri. Indian sandalwood in the heart, white musk in the base, amber and some soft oudh, under Taif rose. The only attar that lists sandalwood and white musk together. View →
Warm: sandalwood plus sweetness
Mastani. Mysore sandalwood with oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka, under night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose. A deep floral-gourmand. View →
Past warm: oud-led, tobacco, leather
Nawaab. White royal oud, aged tobacco leaf, amber and leather. The deepest of the four, and not a little of anything. View →
If clean outranks warm, step back to: Adaa at ₹379: Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over three white flowers, on white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The lightest of the four attars, with no oudh, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml.
The fork is which of your two words wins. Ameeri is sandalwood over white musk with a step of warmth. Adaa is the drier, cleaner step back. Choose by the word you would keep if you could only keep one.
Two rows. Ameeri is the answer for the reader who wants sandalwood and musk named, and Adaa is the answer for the reader who would rather err on the side of clean. The note underneath says what neither is, and what to do if your word was oud.
The SOSA specification for clean with warmth
Ameeri for sandalwood and musk, Adaa for the cleaner step back
Both rows start small: the 3ml of Ameeri at ₹385, or the 3ml of Adaa at ₹379. The larger sizes are a purchase for after a full season, not instead of one: ₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml for Ameeri, and ₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml for Adaa. Neither is a musk on its own, because SOSA makes none; white musk is a base note in Adaa, Ameeri and Nawaab and never the subject. SOSA's pyramids do not carry a gender, so unisex here means what is left out of the pyramid, and that is a reading, not a label. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin for the attars and nothing further; how long any fragrance lasts depends on skin, dose, clothing and the day. A patch test on first use is the only skin advice we give. Nobody can promise you what anyone else will think of it, and I will not. Ours is a contact page and a person who replies: Ask for an attar recommendation and tell us which two fragrances you do not want to resemble.

A note from Sonal
When someone asks me for unisex, I ask them to name two fragrances they would not want to be mistaken for. Often one is a sweet gourmand and the other a smoky, leathery thing. It tells me more than any note list, because it marks the two edges of the dial and leaves the middle for me to fill. That middle is where sandalwood, a little amber and a quiet musk live.
I should say the awkward part plainly. Ameeri is not as spare as Adaa. It has saffron, Taif rose and some soft oudh, and a reader who wanted clean with a touch of warmth may find that more than a touch. I would rather tell you that now than have you discover it on your wrist. If that happens, Adaa is the cleaner step back, and it carries no oudh at all, and the 3ml of either is the whole price of finding out.
So the advice is small. One 3ml, one dab, three ordinary days, and a judgment at hour three, when the saffron and bergamot have gone and the sandalwood and musk are what remain. If that is the warmth you wanted, you will know. If it is warmer than that, you have learned your place on the dial for the price of one small bottle. A portion of every purchase supports Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an attar that has both musk and sandalwood?
By published pyramid, SOSA Ameeri: Indian sandalwood in the heart and white musk in the base. SOSA Mastani has Mysore sandalwood but no musk in its list, and SOSA Adaa has white musk but no sandalwood. White musk is a base note in three of the four attars, never the subject, and SOSA makes no musk on its own.
Is Ameeri really clean, with its oudh and rose?
It is cleaner than Mastani and Nawaab, and warmer than Adaa. It carries Taif rose, saffron and some soft oudh, which are not clean materials in themselves. The sandalwood and white musk are what hold it together. If that is more than a little warmth for you, start with Adaa instead.
Does unisex mean anything on a SOSA product page?
SOSA's pyramids list notes, not genders, so I read the word through what is left out. No vanilla or tonka sweetness, no tobacco and leather, no oud-led base: those are the extremes. Whether a fragrance suits you is a matter of what you reach for, and not something I can say on your behalf.
How should I wear a little warmth without it growing?
One dab, once you are dressed, on the chest or the side of the neck. One dab is a whisper and two is a sentence. Skip the second dab for the first three days, and judge at hour three rather than in the first ten minutes, when the bergamot and saffron are still in front.
Should I buy Ameeri and Adaa together?
If you cannot choose which of your two words wins, a 3ml of each, ₹385 and ₹379, is a reasonable way to settle it over a week. Wear one on alternate days and judge each at hour three. It is not a commitment to either.
The attar to leave out of this particular search: Nawaab at ₹399 has white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron and aged tobacco leaf over amber, leather and white musk. The deepest and most oud-led of the four, which is the opposite of a little.
SOSA — A Balanced Startone 3ml of Ameeri, one dab once dressed, judged at hour three
SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 is Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. It carries some oudh, and Adaa is the cleaner step back if that is more than you wanted. Alcohol-free, hand-blended in Pune. A portion of every purchase supports Nanhi Kali.
