Weaker than you are expecting, and the way you make it weaker is free. A 120 sq ft room is roughly a thousand cubic feet of air at an ordinary ceiling height — under half the connected volume a single bottle at six reeds is calibrated to fill — so the room does not need filling, it needs restraining. Buy one Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749, our least expensive bottle, and run three of the six reeds it comes with. That is the entire specification. The counter-intuitive part — and the reason people get small rooms wrong — is that a strength question in 120 sq ft is answered by turning the product down, not by buying more of it.
Quick answers — read this first
Three reeds, not six. Reed count is the only real volume control on this format, and six is calibrated for a living room several times your size. Keep the other three clean and dry.

Buy a 50ml, not a 130ml. ₹749–₹849 rather than ₹1,249–₹1,349. At the same reed count they project identically; the larger bottle buys weeks, not reach, and at three reeds the small one already runs long.

Ignore the scale figure here. Our 9.5 and our 8.9 are measured at six reeds in an ordinary living room. In 120 sq ft at three reeds the gap between them narrows considerably.

Set it for the hours the door is shut. A Bengaluru room with the window open behaves like a bigger one. Do not add reeds on a breezy morning and then sit in the result on a still afternoon.
The short answer
Short answer: one 50ml bottle at three reeds. Morning Freshness ₹749 if you want the room bright, Evening Calm ₹799 if you want it quiet, Garden Bloom ₹799 if you want it floral. On a tray, waist-to-chest height, a couple of metres from where you sit and not on the desk. Free shipping above ₹499, so one bottle ships free. Do not buy two bottles for one 120 sq ft room, and do not buy a 130ml for strength.
The mechanism: oil climbs six fibre reeds by capillary action and evaporates from the exposed length, so output rises roughly in proportion to how much reed stands in the air. A small room receives that output into a small volume, which means it reaches a noticeable level quickly and keeps climbing — a 120 sq ft office does not fail to fill, it fills and then overshoots. Halving the exposed reed surface is the only lever that fixes it, and it costs nothing.
Straight answer
How strong should a reed diffuser be in a 120 sq ft home office?
1. Weaker than the box is set up for. Every SOSA reed diffuser ships with six fibre reeds because six is where each composition reads correctly in an ordinary living room. Your room is not that room. Use three.

2. Buy the 50ml. ₹749 to ₹849 depending on the composition. A 130ml at ₹1,249–₹1,349 is the same strength for longer, and at three reeds you will not need the extra weeks for a good while.

3. Do not shop by the strength figure. Ours run 8.9 to 9.5, measured at six reeds — a position on SOSA's own internal scale, not an industry standard and not a ranking of quality. Halve the reeds and those numbers stop discriminating. Buy the one you like.

4. The one I would still keep out is Fresh Brew. Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla at 9.5 is composed to greet a room people walk into. In a small room you sit in for hours it is the composition most likely to become the thing you notice rather than the thing you enjoy.

5. Position it away from the desk. A couple of metres from where you sit, waist-to-chest height, on a tray because the oil marks wood and stone. Not on the sill, not above a laptop vent or anything warm.

6. Give it a fortnight before judging. The first three days of a new bottle — reeds freshly wetted, top notes departing — are the loudest it will ever be, and in a small room that opening is dramatic.

7. Expect the bottle to outlast its published weeks. A 50ml runs 6–8 weeks at six reeds; at three, less oil leaves per day, so it runs longer. Quieter and cheaper at once.

Everything is composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, tested through 45°C summer heat and 85% monsoon humidity, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: not strong. One 50ml — ₹749 to ₹849 — with three of the six reeds in the neck, two metres from the desk, on a tray. A 120 sq ft room is under half the volume six reeds are calibrated for, so the fix is subtraction. It costs nothing and it makes the bottle last longer.

One bottle, half its reeds
SOSA Morning Freshness · Malabar lemon, peppermint & Nilgiri eucalyptus ₹749 / 50ml
The brightest composition we make and our least expensive bottle, which in a small work room is a better combination than it sounds. At six reeds this is too much for 120 sq ft with the door shut; at three it is a clean, cool presence that stays behind whatever you are doing. 9.0 on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds — our scale, not an industry standard — and that figure is exactly what stops being useful once you halve the count. Refillable glass with six fibre reeds supplied, of which you use three; fibre rather than rattan, whose pores clog in Indian humidity. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free on a heat-stable coconut-derived CCT carrier. 6–8 weeks at six reeds and longer at three. The 130ml is ₹1,249 — more weeks, identical strength. Flip weekly with gloves; stand it on a tray.

Part one — why a small room is a turning-down problem

Instincts about small rooms come from lighting and heating, where small plainly means less. With fragrance the instinct inverts, because people picture a bottle "filling" a room and assume a stronger one fills it faster. Three things explain why the opposite is true.

1
120 SQ FT IS A SMALL AIR VOLUME, AND IT SATURATES
Six reeds is calibrated for a room several times this size
A reed diffuser is a constant source releasing at a fixed rate into whatever volume it stands in. Roughly 250–300 sq ft of connected open volume is where one bottle at six reeds stops being able to hold a room; your 120 sq ft is under half of that, so the same output arrives into less than half the air. The room does not struggle to reach a noticeable level — it reaches it quickly and keeps going, because nothing about the bottle stops when the room is done. With the door shut, which is what a work room is during calls, very little is carried away either. That is why "how strong should it be" has a subtraction as its answer.
The rule: under about 150 sq ft, start at three reeds. Between 150 and 250, four. Six is for a living room.
2
REEDS ARE THE ONLY VOLUME CONTROL, AND THEY PAY YOU BACK
Three reeds is not a compromised six — it is the correct setting for this room
SOSA Garden Bloom reed diffuser, fine in a small room at three reedsGarden Bloom₹799 · 50mlThere is no dial and no switch on this format — that is its whole character — so the number of reeds standing in the neck is the setting. Output tracks exposed fibre surface closely, so going from six to three roughly halves what leaves the bottle each day. And the bill moves in your favour: less oil leaving means the 50ml runs past the 6–8 weeks we publish for six reeds. Quieter room, longer bottle, no extra spend. Take the spare reeds out, wipe them and keep them clean and dry; you may want one back when the weather changes. Nothing here is a downgrade — the composition is unchanged, there is simply less of it in the air.
The adjustment: change one reed at a time and wait two days. What is already in the room does not vanish when a reed comes out.
3
THE SCALE FIGURE IS THE WRONG THING TO SHOP ON HERE
Our numbers are measured at six reeds — the count you are not using
People arriving at a strength question reach for the highest number they can find, and I would rather talk you out of that than sell you a 9.5. Every figure we publish — 8.9 for Evening Calm and Garden Bloom, 9.0 for Morning Freshness, 9.4 for Mountain Breeze, 9.5 for Fresh Brew — is a position on SOSA's own internal scale measured at six reeds, not an industry standard and not a ranking of quality. Halve the reeds and the spread compresses: in 120 sq ft at three, the practical difference between the top and bottom of our range is much smaller than the numbers imply. The figure stops being a shopping criterion and the composition you enjoy becomes the decision. The exception I hold to is Fresh Brew: coffee and vanilla is built to be met on arrival, and a room you sit in without a break is the wrong place for it at any count.

Part two — every reed count, judged in 120 sq ft

The same bottle at six different settings, read against one room. Longevity is qualitative below six reeds because we publish no figure for other counts, and I am not going to invent one.

A 120 sq ft occupied room · what each reed count does
Reeds in the neck, what the room does with it, what happens to the 50ml, and when to use it
Reeds in the neck What a 120 sq ft room does with it What happens to the 50ml Use it when
Three ★ Present without asking for attention, hours into a shut-door day Runs past the published 6–8 weeks Your default. Start here
Four Clearly there; fine if the door and window are usually open Still longer than 6–8 weeks Ventilated rooms, or a composition you find shy
Five Beginning to dominate a small shut room by the afternoon Approaching the published range Rarely. Only if 120 sq ft opens into a hallway
Six — as supplied Calibrated for 250–300 sq ft; too much for this room shut The published 6–8 weeks Move the bottle to a living room instead
Two Faint, and easy to lose to ordinary olfactory adaptation Longest of all A very warm room, or if three still reads high
One Effectively an accent near the bottle, not a room Longer still, and the reed may under-wick Not recommended — you have stopped scenting the room
The honest caveat: SOSA publishes longevity figures only at six reeds — 6–8 weeks for a 50ml, 14–18 for a 130ml — so every other row says "longer" rather than giving a number that would be invented. Duration also moves with warmth, which raises the evaporation rate, and with humidity, which slows it from the reed surface. Nine reeds is roughly five weeks on a 50ml and ten is four to five: the same relationship running the other way.

Three bottles that suit a small room, all of them at three reeds
The SOSA principle
A small room is not a strength problem waiting for a stronger bottle. It is a room that fills quickly and then keeps filling, so the correct instrument is subtraction.
Three reeds out of six, no extra spend, and a 50ml that outlasts the weeks printed on it.

Part three — the three purchases a small room does not need

The first is a bigger bottle, the commonest mistake in this exact situation. A 130ml at ₹1,249–₹1,349 holds more oil and lasts 14–18 weeks instead of 6–8; at the same reed count it projects identically. Size is the duration control, reed count the volume control, and reach comes from exposed reed surface rather than reservoir size. Buying up for a small room means paying about ₹500 more for weeks you were not short of, when at three reeds a 50ml is already stretching beyond its printed range. Buy the larger size when you are tired of reordering, not when you want more presence. There is no 100ml reed diffuser to compromise on either — our sizes are 50ml and 130ml.

The second is a second bottle. More sources is the right answer for more rooms and the wrong answer for one small one — two bottles in 120 sq ft is double the output into the same thousand cubic feet, which is the problem you started with. If the office opens onto a hallway and you want that zone done, treat it as one space and put the single bottle near the boundary. And if a bottle you already own feels wrong in the office, the fix costs nothing: pull reeds out and wait two days.

The third is a machine, and the refusal is specific. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 covers 270–320 sq ft — more than twice your room — with 16–18 hours on low, a remote and steady, 2H and 4H timers, and a Boond at ₹899 covers about 150 sq ft. Both are control purchases: they scent on demand and nothing while off. If you want the room scented for the hour after lunch and unscented otherwise, that is a machine's job. If you want a low constant background in a room you sit in, you have been sold the right thing at ₹749 and the machine adds a socket, a tank and water. Both add moisture by design, because aerosolising water is how an ultrasonic delivers fragrance; a reed diffuser adds none, and reduces none. And worth saying in a room this size: a reed diffuser adds a scent alongside what is already in the air. It does not clean, purify or filter anything, so if a shut office smells stale the answer is opening it for ten minutes, not scenting it.

In a small room the question is never how to get more out of the bottle. It is how much of the bottle to leave in the box.

Honest notes for buyers: a reed diffuser adds fragrance to a room. It does not clean, purify or filter air, exchange the air in a closed room, remove or neutralise any existing smell, reduce humidity, or change how anyone feels, works or concentrates. It adds no moisture; ultrasonic machines aerosolise water and therefore do. Reed count is the volume control and bottle size the duration control — size buys weeks, never reach. SOSA publishes longevity figures at six reeds only: 50ml 6–8 weeks, 130ml 14–18 weeks; other counts are described qualitatively rather than given invented numbers, and duration varies with warmth, airflow and humidity. There is no 100ml reed diffuser. Strength figures are positions on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, not an industry standard and no predictor of whether you will enjoy a composition. Keep unused reeds clean and dry; replacement reeds are not sold separately. Refills are oil only. Reed oil never goes into an ultrasonic machine and the water-based Hotel Collection never goes into a reed bottle. Fragrance oil is flammable — keep bottles on a tray, out of direct sunlight, away from open flame, children and pets. SOSA Evening Calm · Kashmir lavender & chamomile ₹799 / 50ml
The quietest composition in the range at 8.9 on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds — our scale, not an industry standard. In 120 sq ft it is the safest thing to start with: if three reeds of our softest still reads high, the answer is two rather than a different bottle. Lavender over chamomile with a soft musk drydown and nothing sharp at the top — the quality that matters when you are inside it for hours rather than walking past it. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free on a heat-stable coconut-derived CCT carrier, refillable glass, six fibre reeds supplied and three in use. The 130ml is ₹1,299, which buys weeks rather than presence. Flip weekly; keep it on a tray, two metres from the desk.

A note from Sonal

Six reeds is a decision, not a default. We tested each of the five compositions at different counts and settled on six because that is where they read the way they were composed to read in an ordinary Indian living room — a space of a few hundred square feet that people cross rather than occupy. Every strength figure we publish is measured at that count, which is exactly why those figures stop being useful the moment your room stops being that room.

A 120 sq ft office is the furthest thing from a living room: small, often shut, and occupied by one person without a break — three conditions that each push the correct level down. I have seen the box's six reeds treated as an instruction rather than a maximum often enough to think we should print the small-room count on the carton.

What makes this easy advice to give is that it costs nobody anything. Taking three reeds out is free, it makes the room better and it makes the bottle last longer — a rare set of outcomes to line up in the customer's favour at once. It is why I would rather you spent ₹749 and got the setting right than ₹1,349 and got it wrong. Made in small batches in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How many reeds should I use in a 120 sq ft room?
Three, out of the six supplied. A 120 sq ft room is roughly a thousand cubic feet at an ordinary ceiling height, under half the volume one bottle at six reeds is calibrated for. Start at three, live with it a fortnight, then move to two if it still reads high or four if the window is open most of the day. Change one reed at a time.
Should a small room get a stronger fragrance or a weaker one?
Weaker, and that is the part that surprises people. A small room reaches a noticeable level quickly and keeps climbing, because the bottle does not stop when the room is done. The instrument is subtraction rather than selection — the same composition at half the reeds. Our strength figures are measured at six reeds and compress considerably once you halve the count.
Is a 130ml better for a home office than a 50ml?
Not for strength, which is usually why people ask. At the same reed count the two sizes project identically; a 130ml at ₹1,249–₹1,349 holds more oil and runs 14–18 weeks against 6–8. At three reeds a 50ml already outlasts its printed range, so the larger bottle solves a problem you do not yet have.
Which SOSA scent is strongest, and should I buy it for a small office?
Fresh Brew at ₹849 is our highest figure at 9.5, and no — not for this room. Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla is composed to be met on arrival, and a small room you sit in for hours is where it becomes the thing you notice rather than the thing you enjoy. Put it where people walk through.
My small office smells of nothing by the afternoon — should I add reeds?
Probably not. Not registering a constant fragrance in the room you spend the day in is ordinary olfactory adaptation, strongest exactly there. Leave the room for a while and walk back in, or ask whoever arrives in the evening. If it reads scented to them, adding reeds would push it past what you can sit with. If the window has been open all day that is airflow, and the count you set for shut hours is the right one.

A persistent musty smell indicates moisture that needs finding and drying, and SOSA sells no dehumidifier or air purifier. Ventilate or extract first; add fragrance second.
