★ End-of-course gifts, sized for a student
✓ The last lecture usually comes before the examination and well before the results. Assessment is what matters, not the timetable, so wait for the marks. ✓ A reed diffuser can be put on a shelf and forgotten about. Nothing to switch on, nothing to maintain, and nothing anybody has to decide about. ✓ A gift from the whole class is easier for a professor to accept than one from a single student, and it keeps any one name out of the frame.

End-of-course gifts have an obvious date attached to them, and the obvious date is usually wrong. The last class feels like the end. Assessment says otherwise, and assessment is the part that decides whether a gift is simple to receive or slightly complicated.
Quick answers — read this first
When should you give a professor an end-of-course gift? After the marks are published, not after the last lecture. Those two dates can be weeks apart, and the gap is exactly the window where a gift is awkward: your work is with them, a grade is unsettled, and anything arriving on the desk has to be read against that. Once results are out and the course is formally closed, the same gift is simply a thank-you. If you are leaving campus before results, send a letter now and the object later, or send the letter alone — it is a complete gift on its own.

What is a good end-of-course gift for a lecturer? Something modest for their room. A 50ml reed diffuser between ₹749 and ₹849 is the clearest example: it sits on a shelf in a cabin, needs no power, and assumes nothing about the person's taste or skin. Morning Freshness is lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus and is the safest register in a shared office; Mountain Breeze is pine, sage and cedar and suits a room of books. If the whole class is giving together, a reed duo at ₹1,498 is a sensible shape. Check your university's rules before you order.

Should the class give together, or should students give individually? Together, in almost every case. One gift with every name on the card is easier for a professor to accept, it avoids a row of individual gifts arriving on the same day, and it lets the group spend a little more without any single student's gesture looking outsized. Collect a small amount from everybody, buy one good thing, and write a card that several people have actually signed. If some students would rather not contribute, that should be entirely unremarkable, and the card can carry the names of those who did.
The short answer
Short answer: Give it after the marks are published rather than after the last class — those dates are not the same, and the gap is where a gift becomes awkward. Then keep it modest and choose the room rather than the person: a 50ml reed diffuser between ₹749 and ₹849 with a specific card. A class gift is easier to accept than an individual one, and institutional rules are worth checking first.
The pick: SOSA Morning Freshness at ₹749, or the SOSA Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 if the whole class is giving together.
Next step: Tell us how many of you are giving and when the results are out, and we will suggest something proportionate. Ask SOSA to help choose a gift.
Wait for the marks, not the last classThe last lecture is not the end of assessmentGive once the results are publishedModest, and for the room rather than themOne gift from the class beats twenty small onesLeaving early? Send the letter now
Almost every difficulty with an end-of-course gift is a difficulty about the date rather than about the object.
Straight answer
When does a course really end, and what should you give when it does?
A course has two endings and people almost always pick the wrong one. The first is the last class, which feels like the end because it is the last time everybody is in the room together. The second is the closing of assessment — the examination sat, the coursework marked, the grade moderated and published. Between those two dates your work is on somebody's desk and a decision about you is open, and that is precisely the window in which a gift stops being simple. The professor has to receive an object from a student whose mark is not yet settled, and depending on the institution they may have to declare it or hand it back. None of that is about your intentions; it is about the calendar. So the practical rule is easy: give it after the results. Nothing is lost by waiting a few weeks, and everything ambiguous about the gesture disappears. If you are physically leaving before results are published — going home, going abroad, starting work — then send the letter now and the object later, or send the letter alone, which has always been a complete gift in this category. Once the date is right, the object is the easy part. Keep it modest and keep it for the room. A 50ml reed diffuser between ₹749 and ₹849 is the clearest form of that: it needs no power, it goes on a shelf in a cabin, and it assumes nothing about what the person wears or what their skin tolerates. Morning Freshness — Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus — is the lightest register we make and the right one for an office shared with colleagues. Mountain Breeze, with Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, is drier and suits a book-lined room. And consider making it a class gift rather than an individual one. One object with every name on the card is easier to accept, avoids a queue of separate gifts on the same day, and lets you spend a little more without any single student standing in front — a reed duo at ₹1,498 is a sensible shape for a group. Check what your university allows before you order, because value caps and declaration rules are common. If you would like help sizing it, ask us to help choose a gift.
A course ends twice. Give on the second date, once the marks are published, and let the class give one thing together rather than twenty separate ones.
The uncomplicated end-of-course gift is SOSA Morning Freshness at ₹749 — Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus, passive and ungendered, and easy to accept without any thought at all.

What an end-of-course gift should cost

Sizing, briefly. A 50ml reed is right for a cabin and right for an individual student gift. Step up to a duo only if a group is giving together, and step up to 130ml only if you know they work from a large room at home. There is nothing in the range under ₹300, and at that budget a signed card from the whole class is a real gift rather than a consolation.

Three decisions at the end of a course

Three decisions, and the first one is entirely about the calendar.

1
First, the date
Assessment closing is the end that matters
Work out when the grade is final, not when the teaching stops. In most courses the last class comes before the examination, and the examination comes well before results are published and moderated. In that gap a gift arrives while a decision about you is live, and however plainly you mean it as thanks, the professor is the one who has to decide what to do with it. Some departments require it to be declared; some require it to be returned. After results, none of that applies. If you cannot be on campus then, post it, or send the letter now and the object afterwards. A letter creates no ambiguity at any point in the calendar.
Tip: Resit and remark windows count too. If a reassessment could still land on their desk, the course has not closed for you yet.
2
Second, individual or from the class
One gift with every name on it is the easier shape
A professor at the end of a semester can receive a surprising number of separate small gifts, and each one has to be acknowledged individually. A single gift from the class solves that, and it solves something else too: it takes any one student out of the frame, which matters where the person has been assessing all of you. Collect a modest amount from anyone who wants to contribute, buy one good thing, and have several people sign the card. Nobody should feel obliged to contribute, and the card can simply carry the names of those who did. A reed duo at ₹1,498 or a single 50ml reed with twenty signatures both work.

3
Third, the object
Modest, for the room, and easy to put down
The end of a course is not the moment for anything elaborate. What works is a small object that can be accepted, thanked for and placed on a shelf without a decision being made. A 50ml reed diffuser does that better than most things: passive, no power, no noise, no assumption about anybody's taste in what they wear, and no question about skin sensitivity. Morning Freshness at ₹749 is the lightest register and the safest where the office is shared; Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is drier and suits a room full of paper. Keep a worn fragrance for after graduation, when you are no longer being assessed by anybody in the department.
The SOSA principle
The card signed by twenty people is often the part that ends up pinned to a noticeboard, long after whatever came with it has been used up.
That is a remark about what tends to be kept, and no claim that a gift or a card alters how a teacher regards a class.
SOSA Morning Freshness Reed Diffuser
The end-of-course default: Morning Freshness at ₹749 — Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus. Passive, light, and easy for anybody to accept.

Timing, in plain terms

The calendar set out plainly, because it is the part of this decision that people get wrong most often.

The SOSA plan
When to give, and when to wait
The moment Give, or wait?
SOSA Morning Freshness Reed DiffuserThe last class of the semester
Wait. Assessment is usually still open, and the gift would arrive while your work is on their desk.
Immediately after the final examination
Wait. Marking and moderation are still to come, and that is the whole point of the caution.
After results are published
Give. The course has closed, nothing is pending, and the gift is simply a thank-you.
You are leaving campus before results
Send the letter now and the object later, or send the letter alone. It is a complete gift by itself.

The wider version of this argument is in what a thank-you gift to a professor is and is not, and if you have finished your degree entirely, read a gift for a professor after graduation instead, because the constraints genuinely change. SOSA is an independent Indian brand, not affiliated with any perfume house, designer, college or university, and no institution is a SOSA customer.

SOSA Day & Night Reed Duo
If the class is giving together: The Day and Night duo at ₹1,498 for 2 x 50ml. One bright bottle for the cabin and one quiet one for home.
After results, not after the last lecture
Morning Freshness ₹749, Mountain Breeze ₹849, or a reed duo at ₹1,498 from the whole class

Between the last class and the published result, your work is still on somebody's desk. Give after that, and there is nothing left to be careful about.

What to buy for the end of a course

One modest object, given once the marks are out, with a card that several people have actually signed. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

The end-of-course ladder

Product Best for Why it works Price
SOSA Morning Freshness Reed Diffuser One student, around ₹749 Morning Freshness, 50ml. Light, passive and proportionate from an individual. ₹749

SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser One student, around ₹849 Mountain Breeze, 50ml. The drier register, for a cabin full of paper and books. ₹849

SOSA Day & Night Reed Duo A whole class, around ₹1,498 Two bottles in one box. The natural shape for a pooled gift, with every name on the card. ₹1,498

SOSA Fresh & Grounded Reed Duo A whole class, around ₹1,548 Morning Freshness with Mountain Breeze — both dry and unsweet, so both bottles suit a working room. ₹1,548

Limits worth repeating. Many universities publish rules on gifts to academic staff, including value caps and declaration requirements, so check yours before you buy. Nothing in the SOSA range sits under ₹300, and the 15ml bottles at ₹299 are refills for an ultrasonic machine rather than a gift. An individual student gift above roughly ₹1,500 changes character, so pool rather than stretch. We make no promise about delivery timing, wrapping, personalisation or stock.

A note from Sonal

The end-of-course question nearly always arrives as a question about what, and almost never as a question about when — which is the wrong way round, because when is where the difficulty actually lives. The last class feels like a natural moment and it usually is not one. Assessment is still open, and until it closes the professor has to think about anything that lands on their desk.

What I suggest instead is dull and it works. Note the date results are published, put a reminder against it, and give afterwards. If you will have left by then, write the letter before you go and post the object later, or just send the letter. In this category the letter was always the larger part of the gift, and it is the part that survives the semester.

The caveat that goes on all of these pages. A room fragrance is an ambience choice and not a claim about health or feeling: nothing therapeutic, nothing medical, and we make no claim that a diffuser cleans a room or masks an odour. Whether it stays in a shared office at all is the professor's judgement and not ours, and where colleagues share a room it is worth choosing the lightest register. Alcohol-free and DPG-free are ingredient facts about the attars rather than skin claims; patch-test. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

When should you give a professor an end-of-course gift?
After the marks are published, not after the last lecture. Those dates can be weeks apart, and in between your work is still being assessed, which is exactly when a gift becomes complicated for the person receiving it. Once the results are out and the course is formally closed, the same gift is simply a thank-you and nothing needs explaining.
What if I have left campus by the time results come out?
Send the letter before you leave and the object later, or send the letter on its own. A letter carries no ambiguity at any point in the calendar, and in this category it was always the bigger half of the gift. Posting a small parcel afterwards is perfectly normal and nobody finds it odd.
What should the class give at the end of a course?
One thing from everybody rather than twenty separate gifts. A 50ml reed diffuser at Rs 749 with every name on the card works, and a reed duo at Rs 1,498 works if more people are contributing. Collect a small amount from anyone who wants to give, and let anyone who would rather not simply not.
Is a reed diffuser suitable for a shared departmental office?
Yes, if you choose a light register. Morning Freshness is Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus and is the least noticeable scent in our range, which matters when three other people share the room. Avoid sweet and gourmand registers in a shared office; they announce themselves to people who did not choose them.
Do I need to check university rules for something this small?
It takes five minutes and it is worth doing. Many universities publish rules on gifts to academic staff, sometimes with a value cap and sometimes with a declaration requirement, and a few departments say no altogether. Those rules exist partly to spare staff an awkward decision, and a gift that has to be handed back helps nobody.
