The two neighbours: Mountain Breeze at ₹849 in the room you concentrate in, Evening Calm at ₹799 where you wind down. Both pairings are already boxed: Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548, Day & Night ₹1,498.
What a year costs: about ₹6,296 for a 1BHK, ₹9,994 for a 2BHK and ₹13,242 for a 3BHK, using the 300ml refill at ₹2,399 as the ongoing line. The arithmetic is worked out below.
The honest gap: there is exactly one citrus in the SOSA reed line. No orange blossom, no neroli, no bergamot, no grapefruit, no mandarin, no yuzu, no lime, no bitter orange. A citrus home here is necessarily one citrus plus neighbours, not four citruses.
2. Give the remaining rooms a neighbour, not more citrus. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 in the room you concentrate in — Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar, 9.4, the deepest woody we make. Evening Calm at ₹799 where you wind down — Kashmir lavender and chamomile at 8.9, the softest thing in the range. The Fresh & Grounded duo at ₹1,548 and the Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 box two of those pairings already.
3. Size by room rather than by enthusiasm. 50ml for anything up to about 150 sq ft — bathroom, bedroom, home office — which runs 6–8 weeks. 130ml at ₹1,249 for anything above that, so kitchens, halls and open-plan living, which runs 14–18 weeks. A 130ml with all six reeds is the right specification for a 200 sq ft kitchen.
4. Know the running cost before you commit the flat. Morning Freshness is roughly ₹13 a day on the 50ml. A bottle plus one 300ml refill at ₹2,399 runs one position for about a year, which puts a 1BHK at about ₹6,296 a year, a 2BHK at about ₹9,994 and a 3BHK at about ₹13,242 — all working, all shown below.
5. Never stand a citrus bottle in the airflow of a running split AC. Citrus is the family most damaged by a draught. Forced air strips the lemon off the top in days and leaves you sitting with the eucalyptus base, which is a perfectly decent smell and not remotely what you paid for.

One citrus and two neighbours — the whole structure of a citrus home
A citrus home is not a home in which every room smells of citrus. It is a home with a citrus spine — one scent, in three or four rooms, doing the same job each time — and one or two related scents holding the rooms where lift is the wrong instinct. That structure is not a compromise forced on us by a short range, though it is true that there is only one citrus in the reed line. It is what I would tell you to do if I had twelve. The rooms where you want to be woken up and the rooms where you want to be settled are different rooms, and no single scent is honest in both.
Morning Freshness₹749The spine goes wherever the point is a change of state. The kitchen, because citrus is the only family that sits beside food without competing with it — florals and dinner argue, gourmands and dinner duplicate, lemon and dinner get along. The bathroom, because a small tiled room takes a bright scent better than any other space in a flat and because two or three reeds will make a 50ml last close to three months in there. The hall, because it is the first air anyone meets. And the desk, if your desk is a corner of a room rather than a room of its own — the morning is the hour citrus is unarguably right. Morning Freshness is ₹749 for 50ml and ₹1,249 for 130ml, which is the size for a kitchen or an open hall.
Mountain Breeze₹849A dedicated study or home office — a room you sit in for four hours rather than four minutes — wants the opposite of lift. It wants the air to hold still. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is Himalayan pine, real sage and Indian cedar, 9.4 on the strength scale and the deepest woody we make, and it is a green woody rather than a warm one, which is what keeps it a relative of the lemon rather than a stranger to it. That relation is the entire trick: walking from the kitchen to the study should feel like a modulation, not a change of building. Four reeds is usually right; six if the room is above 150 sq ft, in which case take the 130ml at ₹1,349.
Evening Calm₹799Bedsides, guest rooms and the bath you take at ten at night are the places a citrus home should stop being a citrus home. Evening Calm at ₹799 is Kashmir lavender, real chamomile and a soft musk drydown, and at 8.9 it is deliberately the gentlest scent in the range. Three reeds is the bedroom setting, two if you are sensitive. People sometimes read this as giving up on the plan; it is the plan. The reason a hotel suite smells considered is not that one scent has been sprayed through it — it is that the bathroom and the bedroom are obviously related and obviously not the same. That is also why the Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 exists as one box.
Why nobody complains about lemon, and why that is the problem
Citrus wins every vote in a household. Ask four people what the flat should smell of and lemon is the answer nobody blocks — it is not floral, so it does not divide along the lines florals divide along; it is not sweet, so the person who hates vanilla is content; it does not read as perfume, so the person who says they dislike home fragrance does not notice they have agreed to one. This is a genuine virtue and it is why citrus sells. It is also, precisely, the trap. The scents that meet no resistance are the ones that get deployed everywhere, and everywhere is the one place a scent cannot survive.
The mechanism is not aesthetic, it is physiological, and it is called olfactory adaptation. The nose is a change detector rather than a level meter: it reports the difference between the air a moment ago and the air now, and it stops reporting anything held constant. This is why you cannot smell your own house when you walk into it and your guests can. A flat scented uniformly with one lemon gives the nose nothing to detect after the first few days, and so — to its owner, the only person who matters here — it smells of nothing at all within about a week. The owner's usual conclusion is that the product is weak. It is not weak. It is everywhere, which for a nose is the same as absent. Citrus is the family this happens to most often, simply because it is the family people are most willing to buy four of.
The fix is not a stronger bottle and it is not a scent rotation, which nobody keeps up. It is contrast built into the floor plan, so that moving through the house is itself the change the nose is looking for. Walk from a lemon kitchen into a cedar study and both register, every time, permanently — not because either is loud but because they are different. This is a separate question from how long citrus survives in the bottle, which is the volatility problem the eucalyptus base in Morning Freshness exists to solve and which I have written about at length elsewhere. Here the point is narrower and stranger: a citrus can be perfectly alive in the room and still be inaudible to the person standing in it.
The room-by-room plan for a citrus home
This is the plan I give when somebody writes and says they want the whole flat done in citrus. It keeps the lemon as the through-line in four rooms, hands two rooms to a neighbour, and specifies the reed count for each — because the reed count is the volume dial and almost nobody touches it. Every bottle ships with six fibre reeds and you are meant to remove some of them.
| Room | Scent | Size | Reeds | Why this one here |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | Morning Freshness ★ | 130ml ₹1,249 | 6 | The only family that sits beside cooking without competing with it. A 200 sq ft kitchen needs the 130ml and all six reeds |
| Bathroom | Morning Freshness | 50ml ₹749 | 2–3 | Small tiled rooms take bright scents better than any other space. At two or three reeds a 50ml runs close to three months |
| Hall / entrance | Morning Freshness | 130ml ₹1,249 if it opens onto the living room, 50ml ₹749 if it is a true corridor | 5–6 | The first air anyone meets, and the room air actually moves through — a reed has no fan and needs that movement |
| Desk in a shared room | Morning Freshness | 50ml ₹749 | 3–4 | A desk you use in the morning wants lift. Keep it a metre from where you sit rather than on the desk itself |
| Study / home office | Mountain Breeze | 50ml ₹849, or 130ml ₹1,349 above 150 sq ft | 4 | Four hours in one chair wants the air to hold still. Pine, sage and cedar at 9.4 — green enough to stay a relative of the lemon |
| Living room | Mountain Breeze | 130ml ₹1,349 | 6 | The one room where citrus is the wrong instinct — you sit here at nine at night, and lift is not what nine at night wants |
| Bedroom | Evening Calm | 50ml ₹799 | 3 | 8.9, the softest scent we make. Three reeds is the bedside setting; two if you wake easily |
| Guest room | Evening Calm | 50ml ₹799 | 2–3 | The safest scent to impose on somebody else, because at 8.9 it is the least likely to be too much in a room that is not theirs |

Sizing, running cost for a year, and where the bottle must not stand
Sizes follow square footage and nothing else. The 50ml is built for rooms up to about 150 sq ft — bathrooms, bedrooms, a home office — and runs 6–8 weeks. The 130ml is for anything above that, which in most Indian flats means the kitchen, the hall and the living-dining end, and it runs 14–18 weeks. A 200 sq ft kitchen wants the 130ml with all six reeds in it. The one place this rule breaks is a genuinely open-plan living-dining above roughly 250 to 300 sq ft, where a single reed diffuser cannot carry the volume no matter what you put in it, because a reed has no fan and moves scent only as fast as the room moves air. Two bottles at opposite ends is the reed answer; the Sukoon at ₹1,899 is the machine answer and covers 270–320 sq ft, but note that it takes only the water-based Hotel Collection oils and never reed oil.
Now the arithmetic, because "a citrus home" is an ongoing cost rather than a purchase and you should see the year before you commit to it. Start with one position. Morning Freshness at ₹749 for 50ml over 6–8 weeks is about ₹13 a day at the long end of that range — ₹749 divided by 56 days. The 300ml refill at ₹2,399 is the line that matters afterwards: 300ml is six 50ml fills, so ₹400 a fill against ₹749 for a fresh bottle, and six fills is 36 to 48 weeks. Add the original bottle's 6–8 weeks and one bottle plus one 300ml refill runs a single 50ml position for roughly a year. The same holds at the larger size: a 130ml runs 14–18 weeks and a 300ml refill gives two full fills with 40ml to spare, so bottle plus refill is again about a year. That is the unit. Everything below is that unit multiplied by the number of positions in the flat.
So: a 1BHK runs two positions — the citrus in the kitchen-and-bathroom end, a neighbour by the bed. Buy them as the Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 rather than separately, add two 300ml refills at ₹2,399 each, and the year is ₹1,498 + ₹4,798 = ₹6,296, or a little over ₹17 a day for the whole flat. A 2BHK runs three: Morning Freshness 130ml at ₹1,249 for the kitchen and hall, Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749 for the bathroom, Evening Calm 50ml at ₹799 for the bedroom — ₹2,797 in bottles plus three refills at ₹7,197, which is ₹9,994 for the year, under ₹28 a day. A 3BHK runs four, adding Mountain Breeze 50ml at ₹849 in the study: ₹3,646 in bottles plus four refills at ₹9,596, so ₹13,242, about ₹36 a day. If two of your positions share one scent — and in a citrus home two or three of them will — the 500ml refill at ₹3,499 is the cheaper line still, at ₹350 a fill rather than ₹400.
Finally, placement, which for citrus is not a refinement but the difference between the fragrance you bought and a different one. Never stand a citrus bottle in the airflow of a running split AC. Forced air across the reeds accelerates evaporation, and evaporation takes the lightest molecules first — which in this bottle means the Malabar lemon goes and the eucalyptus base stays. Within a few days under a vent you are not smelling a faded Morning Freshness, you are smelling a different composition altogether, one with the top of it removed. Citrus is the family this ruins fastest, because it has the most to lose at the top. Keep bottles off windowsills in direct sun for the same reason, and away from the immediate line of a ceiling fan on high. What a reed does want is ordinary movement: a metre from a doorway, on a hall console, on the counter rather than in the far corner. A little air, never a gale.
The citrus-home edit, in buying order — and the gap
Here is the whole plan as a shopping list, in the order I would actually buy it, followed by the thing this range does not contain. There is exactly one citrus in the SOSA reed line, and a citrus home built here is therefore one citrus plus neighbours rather than a collection of citruses. If what you pictured was a bergamot hall and a mandarin kitchen and an orange blossom bedroom, that is a real and reasonable picture and this range cannot paint it. I would rather tell you now than sell you three bottles of lemon and let you discover it in a fortnight.
| Buy | What it is | When it is the right answer | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Morning Freshness 50ml ★ | Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus — the only citrus in the reed line, 9.0 | First, always. The bathroom or the desk, whichever room you are in earliest | ₹749 |
| 2. Day & Night duo | Morning Freshness plus Evening Calm — the citrus and its wind-down neighbour, 50ml × 2 | For a 1BHK, or any flat where the second position is a bedside | ₹1,498 |
| 3. Fresh & Grounded duo | Morning Freshness plus Mountain Breeze — the citrus and its concentration neighbour, 50ml × 2 | If the second room is a study or a living room rather than a bedroom | ₹1,548 |
| 4. Morning Freshness 130ml | The same citrus at the size that suits a room above 150 sq ft, 14–18 weeks | The kitchen and the hall, with all six reeds in | ₹1,249 |
| 5. 300ml refill | Six 50ml fills at ₹400 each — the ongoing line the annual arithmetic runs on | Once the plan is settled and you are running it rather than testing it | ₹2,399 |
| No orange blossom, bergamot, grapefruit or mandarin: the honest gap | There is one citrus in the reed line and no neroli, bergamot, grapefruit, mandarin, yuzu, lime or bitter orange anywhere in it. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is the white-floral warmth people usually mean by orange blossom; the Ritz-Carlton-inspired Hotel Collection scent at ₹299 — white tea · bergamot · cedar — is the only bergamot in the house, and it is water-based and ultrasonic-only | Said plainly rather than stretched to fit. The machine it needs is the Boond ₹899 or the Sukoon ₹1,899 | ₹799 / ₹299 |
Versailles
The letter I get most often about citrus is not a complaint about the bottle. It is somebody telling me, slightly embarrassed, that they bought three of the same one for the flat and now cannot smell any of them, and asking whether we make something stronger. We do, and it is not the answer. Putting Fresh Brew at 9.5 into that flat would work for a fortnight and then vanish in precisely the same way, because the problem was never the level. The problem was that there was nothing to compare it with.
I think this is where most people's idea of what smells expensive goes wrong. Intensity is the cheapest signal in fragrance — anybody can buy more oil. What actually reads as considered in somebody else's house is that the hall, the bathroom and the bedroom are clearly the work of one hand and clearly not the same, so that moving through the flat has a shape to it. That is what a good hotel is doing, and it is doing it with fewer scents than you would guess. A single note everywhere is a product decision. Three related registers is a design decision, and a nose can tell the difference even when its owner cannot say why.
So my honest advice for a citrus home: buy one citrus and buy it properly, give it the rooms where lift is the point, and spend the rest of the budget on one neighbour rather than a second lemon. Then take reeds out. Three in the bedroom, two in the small bathroom, six only in the kitchen. It costs nothing and it is the adjustment almost nobody makes. Everything is composed in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
