The single biggest safety improvement of a cool-mist ultrasonic diffuser over an older heated one is obvious once you see it: there is nothing hot. No heating element, no boiling water, no scalding steam. A child who touches the mist feels a cool damp, not a burn.
That is why, of the three, I point parents to the Sukoon for a nursery or child's room. It is built from BPA-free ABS, it has an auto shut-off that powers it down when the tank runs dry, and overheat protection on top. Scent is where I will not hand you a blanket guarantee. Animals experience fragrance very differently from us. Cats in particular metabolise some compounds differently, and birds have delicate respiratory systems; strong or constant scent can bother some animals even when it is pleasant to you.
Myth: if a diffuser is 'natural' or gentle, it is automatically safe for every pet. Reality: no home-fragrance brand, mine included, can promise that. What I can do is tell you how to be careful, and tell you honestly to ask a professional.
Sensible pet practice: introduce any scent gradually and at a low dose; run the diffuser in a well-ventilated room, not a closed one; give your pet an easy way to leave the room if they want to; and watch them for any change in breathing, behaviour or appetite. If you have a bird, a cat, a pregnant or unwell animal, or any doubt at all, talk to your vet before diffusing - and stop if you see any reaction.
