Why Does My Appliance Showroom Fragrance Disappear When the AC Is Running?

Because it is being taken out of the room, and understanding how is the whole fix. A central, ducted or cassette air-conditioning system does two things at once. It pushes cooled air into the room through supply grilles, and it draws room air back out through return grilles to be cooled again. The air on the floor is constantly moving along a path from supply to return, and anything released into that path goes where the path goes. Now look at where your machine is. In almost every showroom that asks this question, the diffuser is on the reception desk, or on a shelf in a corner, or beside the door - and the return grille is above it, or on the wall behind it, or in the ceiling of the same corner. The mist leaves the machine, is drawn straight up into the return, and is gone from the room within minutes, having crossed nothing. With the AC off the mist has no route out and drifts across the floor by itself, which is why the fragrance seems to work in the morning before the plant starts and at closing after it stops. The machine has not become weaker. It has been given an exit. Turning it up, which is what most owners have already done by the time they call, feeds the return faster and leaves the floor as empty as before, while the two metres around the machine become far too strong for the advisor who stands there nine hours; the setting climbs, the lock goes on, and the showroom now has the worst of both. The fix is to move one object. The source goes high on the wall the supply crosses, so the cooled air picks the scent up as it enters the room and carries it across the sales floor first; it reaches the return last, after it has done its work. High matters because supply air falls and spreads as it cools, and a source at ceiling height rides that spread across the floor rather than pooling at a desk.
