Why does the lighting matter beyond colour? Because display lighting is a heat source. Warm air rises off the cases and carries fragrance upward, so a source placed low distributes worse than one at console height.
Does marble affect the fragrance? Only by holding nothing. Marble absorbs no fragrance, so it travels further, reads sharper and swings between runs - which calls for a low continuous setting.
The lighting is not just a colour. It is a heat source
This palette is the most common in Indian luxury jewellery retail, and the useful thing to notice about it is that two of the three named materials contribute nothing at all. Marble is olfactorily inert. Gold is olfactorily inert. Neither absorbs fragrance, neither releases any, and neither has a character of its own for a register to sit against - which is a property jewellery shares with almost no other premium retail category, and which means the room carries the entire olfactory impression rather than a share of it. So the interesting variable is the third item on the list, and the lighting turns out to be doing two separate jobs. The first is colour temperature, and it is the one most people mean. The lighting in a gold-led showroom is warm - amber or warm white - and it is warm by necessity rather than by preference, because gold renders badly under cool light and looks grey and cheap under it. A fragrance register carries an implied warmth of its own, and when the two agree the room reads as one decision. When they disagree, a customer registers a mismatch they cannot name, and in a store where the lighting specification was a considered and expensive decision, arguing with it is a real cost rather than a stylistic quibble. So the register should be warm, dry and woody. Old-World Glamour, with amber, violet and woods, is the richest register we make, and a warm-lit marble and gold showroom is one of the very few interiors that genuinely carries it - amber and violet against that palette is coherent rather than decorative, where the same register in a minimal white boutique tips a restrained room into a decorated one. It needs a light hand and it is often better placed in the private cabins and the bridal lounge than across the whole floor. Forest Suite, with cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves, is the drier alternative and is the better choice where there is substantial timber - carved joinery, panelled cabins, a timber ceiling - because it reads as an extension of that material rather than as something introduced. Quiet Luxury, with white tea, bergamot and cedar, is the safe answer where the showroom sells diamonds alongside gold, because it sits between warm and cool. The second job the lighting does is physical rather than aesthetic, and almost nobody plans for it. Display lighting is a heat source. It sits close to cases and to product, it runs for ten or twelve hours a day, and it warms the air immediately around it - noticeably so in a store with concentrated spotlighting over each case, which is most of them. Warm air is less dense than cool air, so it rises, and it carries fragrance molecules with it. The practical consequence in a warm-lit marble showroom is that fragrance tends to climb off the cases and collect above head height, in air nobody occupies, which means a source placed low or on a case distributes considerably worse than it should. The correction is placement rather than output: put the source at console height, in the path of general air movement, away from the display lighting and not directly at an air conditioning grille - where at a return it would be pulled into the system before doing anything in the room while consuming product at full rate, and at a supply it would be thrown much further than the position implies. Raising the level to compensate for a poor position is the common mistake and it produces a room that is correct nowhere. Marble adds a third factor and it works in the same direction. Stone has high thermal mass and stays cooler than the air above it - which is why a marble floor feels cool underfoot - so there is a cool layer at floor level and warmer air above, and again the fragrance rises. Combined with the display lighting, a marble and gold showroom moves fragrance upward more actively than almost any other retail interior, which is another argument for console height and for a low continuous output rather than strong intermittent bursts. Bursts form a plume that rises and clears; a low continuous setting stays in the occupied part of the room for longer relative to what is produced. That is precisely what timer and app control is for, and it is one reason we specify the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 for these showrooms more often than the floor area alone would justify - waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control. Below it, the Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank suits a substantial floor, the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 covers a private cabin and the Boond at Rs 799 a small room. Because marble, glass and polished metal hold no fragrance at all, nothing is absorbed while a system runs and nothing is released back, so the level also swings between running and not running more than it would in a soft interior. A store that sets its level during a running burst is running much higher than it thinks. There are two maintenance notes specific to this palette. Reed oil marks stone, and porous stone such as travertine and honed limestone absorbs it permanently - so any reed in a marble showroom stands on a tray, without exception, and never directly on a marble console, vanity or ledge. And keep reeds away from concentrated display lighting and out of any direct sunlight from a shopfront, because heat speeds evaporation, which empties a bottle early while running it stronger in the meantime. On level, the cap is set by the counter and by the staff rather than by the doorway. A jewellery transaction is a close-range interaction at perhaps sixty centimetres, sometimes for an hour or two in a bridal appointment, which is far closer than most retail; and staff stand on that floor for nine or ten hours a day, did not choose the register, and will have adapted within the first hour, so they cannot judge it and should not be asked to. Set it with them, lower it without argument if they raise it, and give a manager a physical control rather than an app held at head office. And fix the sources before any of it - the pantry, which is never scented at any time because cooking smell is aerosolised oil and extraction is the answer; a washroom with weak extract; curing carpet and joinery after a fit-out; and unserviced air conditioning - because fragrance combines with those rather than masking them. The seven Hotel Collection registers are Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, and they are SOSA's own interpretations, since we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection only at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage them. We make no claim that fragrance affects mood, dwell time, purchase behaviour, spend or wellbeing. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.
Warm light, warm air, faster evaporation
Two of the three named materials contribute nothing: marble and gold are olfactorily inert, absorbing no fragrance, releasing none and offering no character to sit against - which is why the room carries the entire impression, and why the lighting becomes the interesting variable. It does two jobs. Colour temperature first: the light is warm by necessity rather than preference, because gold renders badly under cool light, and a register carries an implied warmth, so the two should agree - disagreeing means the customer reads a mismatch they cannot name, against an expensive considered decision. So warm, dry and woody: Old-World Glamour, with amber, violet and woods, is the richest we make and this is one of the very few interiors that genuinely carries it, used lightly and often better in the cabins and bridal lounge than across the floor; Forest Suite is the drier alternative where carved joinery or panelling is substantial; Quiet Luxury is the safe answer where diamonds sell alongside gold. The second job is physical and almost nobody plans for it: display lighting is a heat source, sitting close to cases and running ten or twelve hours a day, warming the air around it. Warm air rises and carries fragrance with it, so in a warm-lit marble showroom fragrance climbs off the cases and collects above head height where nobody is - meaning a source placed low or on a case distributes far worse than it should. The correction is placement rather than output: console height, in the path of general air movement, away from display lighting and not at an AC grille, where at a return it is pulled into the system while consuming product at full rate. Marble compounds it, having high thermal mass and staying cooler than the air above, so there is a cool layer at the floor and warmer air above - another argument for console height and for low continuous output rather than bursts, which form a plume that rises and clears. That is what timer and app control is for, and why we specify the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 - waterless, coverage to 1,000 m² - more often here than floor area alone would justify, with the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499, SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799 and SOSA Boond at Rs 799 below it. Two maintenance notes: reed oil marks stone and porous stone absorbs it permanently, so every reed stands on a tray and never on a marble console; and keep reeds away from concentrated display lighting and shopfront sunlight, because heat empties a bottle early while running it stronger meanwhile. Cap the level at the counter and with the staff, not the doorway. Fix the sources first - the pantry, never scented, a weak washroom extract, curing joinery, unserviced air conditioning. From Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards. Volume pricing is quoted on WhatsApp.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
