A sports-injury and pain centre is the one building in this series where the patients walk in at a normal pace and the room next door is a gym. Both facts change the plan. Dry green-citrus at reception - Malabar lemon, mint, eucalyptus - and, on the rehab side, no fragrance at all until the room smells of nothing on its own at six in the evening.
Quick answers — read this first
What fragrance suits a sports-injury and pain management centre? A dry green-citrus register: Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus, which is SOSA Morning Freshness. The patient population is younger and faster than any other pain clinic's, the interiors tend to be white, bright and hard-surfaced, and cedar reads warm and slow against both. Citrus is clean and quick, which is the character of the building - provided it is dry citrus with no sweetness behind it, and provided it is held low, because a sports centre's reception is still a pain clinic's reception.

Should the rehab or gym side of a sports centre be scented? Not until it smells of nothing on its own by six in the evening, and often not then. A rehab floor is a gym, and a gym is an odour problem before it is a fragrance opportunity: air changes, wipe-down frequency, laundry turnover and drainage come first, and fragrance over sweat is a worse third smell. If, after those are fixed, the room smells clean at the end of a full day, a trace of the reception register can reach it from a source placed on the reception side - never a source placed in the gym.

What should a sports-injury centre buy? For a reception under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Morning Freshness reed (Rs 749) with three reeds in at the staff end of the desk. For a centre whose reception and connected patient-facing space run to 1,500 sq ft or more, one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) mounted on the reception side so the gradient falls toward the gym, run low with the lock on. Nothing is placed in the rehab area. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating; it does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress, it does not affect outcomes, procedure rooms stay unscented and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan.
The short answer
Short answer: dry green-citrus - Malabar lemon, mint, eucalyptus, SOSA Morning Freshness - at reception, held low. The rehab or gym side gets no source at all: fix air changes, wipe-down and laundry first, and only if the room smells of nothing at 6 pm does a trace from reception reach it. Procedure and treatment rooms unscented.
The pick: one Morning Freshness reed (₹749) with three reeds in for a reception under about 750 sq ft; one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) on the reception side, run low and locked, from about 1,500 sq ft of connected patient-facing space. Nothing for the gym.
Next step: stand in the rehab area at six in the evening after a full day and note what it smells of, then ask for a clinic scenting plan - the answer for the gym side depends on that one observation.

Straight answer
What fragrance suits a sports-injury and pain management centre?
Dry green-citrus at reception, and nothing at all on the gym side until the gym has earned it. Take the register first, because it is the one place in this family where the default changes. Most pain clinics get cedar and sage, because most pain clinics are built in warm materials for slow patients. A sports-injury centre is not. Its patients are runners with a hamstring, a club cricketer with a shoulder, a footballer six weeks after an ACL, and a good many weekend athletes in their thirties and forties with a back that objected to something. They walk in at a normal pace, they are often in trainers, and they tend to be the youngest waiting room in the whole pain vertical. The interiors follow: white walls, rubber or polished floors, glass partitions onto the rehab floor, cool LED, the occasional wall of team colours. Against that, cedar reads warm and slow and slightly wrong, the way a leather armchair would. The register that agrees with the building is Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus - Morning Freshness - which is dry, clean and quick, and has nothing sweet behind it to tip it toward a juice bar. It is the same conclusion what fragrance suits a modern spine and pain centre reaches for a glass-and-steel spine centre, for the same reason: no warmth against a cool room. Two cautions. Dry citrus only - anything with orange sweetness or a floral lift reads as a fitness-club changing room, which is the sports centre's version of the spa trap. And low. A younger, faster population does not change the fact that this is a pain clinic; some of your patients are on crutches, some are post-operative, and all of them sit while a physio runs late. Three reeds in a bottle, or a machine on a low step with the lock on, judged from a chair at four in the afternoon. Now the room next door, which is the reason this page exists. A sports-injury centre has a rehab floor, and a rehab floor is a gym: treatment tables, mats, bands, a bike, a rack, a dozen people breathing hard for an hour at a time. A gym is an odour-management problem before it is a fragrance opportunity, and the order of work is fixed: air changes and fresh-air intake first, then wipe-down frequency on tables and mats, then laundry turnover for towels and covers, then drains and bins, and only then fragrance, if at all. My rehab area develops sweat odours by evening says plainly that the answer to a gym that smells by six is not more fragrance, and how to approach ambient fragrance in a clinic with an exercise-rehab zone puts scent as the fourth layer. Fragrance over sweat is a worse third smell, and citrus over sweat is a specific and recognisable worse third smell. So the test for the gym side is one observation: stand in it at six in the evening after a full day, and if it smells of nothing, a trace of the reception register may reach it from a source on the reception side. If it smells of anything, nothing is placed anywhere near it, and the money goes to the AC contractor and the laundry. The purchase follows. For a reception under about 750 sq ft, one Morning Freshness reed at ₹749, three reeds in, at the staff end of the desk. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected patient-facing space, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless, mounted high on the reception side so that whatever gradient exists falls toward the gym and not from it, run low with the key-lock on and the timer set to opening hours. Nothing is placed in the rehab area, ever. Treatment rooms, any injection room and any procedure room stay unscented; the physio's consultation cabin is the physio's call, argued both ways, with the house recommendation to place nothing in it. And the sentence that belongs on every page in this series: fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating. It does not reduce pain, anxiety or stress, it does not affect outcomes or recovery from any injury, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. What a combined spine, pain and physiotherapy centre should smell like is the sibling page for the warmer, slower version of this building.
Sports-injury centre: dry green-citrus - Morning Freshness (Rs 749), lemon, mint, eucalyptus - at reception, held low; nothing in the gym until it smells of nothing on its own at 6 pm. Vaayu (Rs 11,999) on the reception side, low and locked, from about 1,500 sq ft. Fragrance never covers sweat. Procedure rooms unscented.
For a sports-injury centre whose reception and connected patient-facing space run to 1,500 sq ft or more, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, mounted on the reception side so the gradient falls toward the gym and run low with the lock on, is the whole installation. Nothing is placed in the rehab area.

Six fibre reeds supplied; a sports-injury reception uses three, at the staff end of the desk, flipped weekly. Five things that make a sports centre different from every other pain clinic

Two of these are about the patients, one is about the building, and two are about the room next door. The last two are where the money usually goes.

1
The pace
A normal walking pace - the one reception in the series where the slow-walk rule is applied lightly
Every other page in this series sets the level for the slowest walker, because pain patients cross reception slowly and sit long. A sports centre's population is different: most walk in at an ordinary pace, many are in their twenties and thirties, and the wait is often for a physio slot rather than a specialist list. That does not remove the rule, it softens it. The crutches, the post-operative knees and the parents waiting with a teenage cricketer are still in the room, and the level is still judged from a chair at four in the afternoon rather than from the desk in the morning. What the faster pace does permit is a brighter register - citrus rather than cedar - because a fragrance met at a stride can afford a little more character than one met over a four-minute crossing. How strong fragrance should be in a pain management waiting room gives the four behaviours; a sports reception checks them at a normal pace, which is the only reception in the family that can.
Test: if the person on crutches in the far chair at four in the afternoon can name the citrus, take a reed out. The runners will not notice the difference; she will.
2
The register
Dry green-citrus - lemon, mint, eucalyptus - and nothing with sweetness or a floral lift
A white, glass-fronted, rubber-floored building with a younger population reads as quick and clean, and the fragrance should agree with it. Morning Freshness - Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus - is dry citrus with a green edge and no warmth, and it is the sports-centre default for the same reason it is the modern-spine-centre default: nothing in it contradicts glass. The sports centre's version of the spa trap is different from the massage-centre trap most pain clinics face; here the risk is the fitness-club changing room, and it is reached by sweet orange, grapefruit-and-something, anything tropical, or a floral lift. All of those are ruled out, along with cedar-and-amber warmth and, for the record, Evening Calm, Garden Bloom and Fresh Brew. If the physio consultation rooms are wooden while the reception is white, the Fresh & Grounded duo gives both registers in one purchase, with the cedar half reserved for the physio's own cabin if the physio wants it.

3
The gym
A rehab floor is an odour job first - air changes, wipe-down, laundry, drains - and fragrance is fourth
The rehab floor of a sports-injury centre is a gym in everything but name: mats, tables, bands, a bike or two, a rack, and people breathing hard for an hour. By six in the evening it smells of occupancy unless the building is working against that all day, and the work is not fragrance. It is fresh-air intake and air changes, which is a conversation with whoever services the AC; wipe-down frequency on tables and mats, which is a rota; laundry turnover on towels and table covers, which is a supplier; and drains and bins, which are a schedule. How to scent a pain clinic with a large rehabilitation area puts all four before any fragrance, and separating odour control from ambient scenting says they are two budgets that should never pay for each other. A gym that smells of nothing at six in the evening has done the work; a gym that smells of anything has not, and adding citrus to it produces a third smell that every regular will recognise.
Rule: if the rehab floor smells of anything at six in the evening, the fragrance budget goes to the AC contractor and the laundry. Nothing is placed in the gym.
4
The gradient
One source on the reception side, so the trace falls toward the gym and never from it
When the gym has earned a trace - clean at six, every day, for a month - the trace comes from reception, not from a source in the gym. A Vaayu mounted high on the reception side, away from the door to the rehab floor and away from any AC return that serves it, sets a gradient that falls from desk to gym; what reaches the gym is what is left after the reception has had it. Placing a source in the gym itself reverses that gradient, puts fragrance where people breathe hardest, and fixes the level to the room that is least able to carry it. Can one scent machine cover the reception and open rehab area answers yes for one connected volume, provided the machine is on the reception side; reception versus physiotherapy floor intensity explains why the gym always sits at the bottom of the gradient. If the two are separate volumes with a door between, the gym gets nothing at all.
Tip: mark the AC supply and return on the plan before choosing the wall. A return on the gym side will pull the reception source straight into the room you were keeping it out of.

The rest of the map
Treatment rooms unscented, the physio's cabin the physio's call, and a fragrance-free chair for the patient who wants none
A sports-injury centre often has an injection room, sometimes an ultrasound-guided procedure room, and always a row of treatment cubicles. Injection and procedure rooms stay unscented, flat rule; treatment cubicles with a patient on a table are on the clinical side of the line and carry nothing placed, only whatever trace reaches them from reception. The physio's own consultation cabin is the physio's decision, argued both ways - continuity from a clean reception, or a clean break for an assessment - with the house recommendation to place nothing in it and let it inherit a trace. And because a sports population includes people who dislike any fragrance at all, a chair near the entrance and away from the source is kept fragrance-free, and the desk knows that the correct response to any objection is reduce or switch off, never defend. How a pain clinic should accommodate fragrance-sensitive patients is the full page.
Rule: if a patient objects, reduce or switch off - in seconds, without discussion. The desk owns that decision.
The SOSA principle
A sports centre has the fastest reception in this series and the hardest room next to it. Scent the reception with dry citrus, held low, and give the gym air, wipe-down and laundry instead of a fragrance.
Lemon, mint, eucalyptus at the desk. Nothing in the gym until it smells of nothing at six. One source on the reception side, so the gradient falls the right way.
SOSA Vaayu
For the larger sports centre: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - waterless, mounted high on the reception side, one low step under a key-lock, timer set to opening hours; the trace falls toward the gym and nothing is placed in it.

Reception, treatment, gym - the sports centre zone by zone

The same building as a floor plan. The middle rows are where sports centres spend money they should not: on fragrance for a gym that needs an AC contractor.

Physio consultation cabins
The physio's call. House recommendation: nothing placed inside; a trace inherited through the open door.
Treatment cubicles with tables
Nothing placed. A patient on a table is on the clinical side of the line; only a trace from reception reaches them, if that.
The rehab floor - mats, bands, bike, rack
Nothing placed, ever. Air changes, wipe-down, laundry and drains first. A trace from reception only once the room smells of nothing at six in the evening.
Injection or ultrasound-guided procedure room
Unscented, flat rule. Kept so by placement of the reception source and the door, never by a setting inside.

The warmer, slower version of this building is what a combined spine, pain and physiotherapy centre should smell like; the three-speciality version with the largest floor plates is what fragrance suits a premium pain, orthopaedic and physiotherapy centre; and the spine reception whose patients cross the room in minutes rather than seconds is the best fragrance for a premium spine clinic reception. SOSA makes no claim that any of this affects pain, anxiety, stress, injury recovery, outcomes, bookings or spend. A sports centre whose reception smells clean and whose gym smells of nothing has done everything fragrance is for.

Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for the lock, the timer and the absence of water, never for coverage; a Sukoon is left off this specification because a water-based diffuser has no place in a building that already carries a gym's humidity. Above about 3,000 sq ft of one connected space the step-up is one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999), not a second Vaayu. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating, and SOSA makes no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress or affects outcomes or recovery, and none about bookings or spend. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and infection control, never instead of them - and in a sports centre, never instead of the AC contractor and the laundry. Injection and procedure rooms stay unscented, the physio's cabin is the physio's call, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. Ask for a clinic scenting plan with the gym marked and we will say honestly which side of the door carries anything.

A note from Sonal

Sports-injury centres are the one pain building where I reach for citrus first, and I enjoy that. The rooms are white and quick and full of people in trainers, and cedar in there looks like somebody's father's study. Lemon, mint and eucalyptus is right for the building, provided it is dry - the moment there is sweetness behind the citrus you have a smoothie counter, and a physio's reception should never smell like one.

But the conversation I actually have with sports-centre owners is about the gym, and it is the same conversation every time. The gym smells by evening. They want to scent it. I ask them to stand in it at six o'clock and tell me what it smells of, and then I tell them that whatever it is, fragrance will not cover it and citrus in particular will make a very recognisable third smell of it. The money goes to air changes, wipe-down and laundry. If the gym smells of nothing at six for a month, we talk about a trace from reception. Most never get that far, and their gym is better for it.

The purchase is a Morning Freshness at ₹749 for the desk of most sports centres and a Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the reception side of a larger one. And, as on every page: fragrance is an ambience decision, like lighting or seating. I make no claim that it reduces pain, anxiety or stress or changes any outcome or any recovery. Procedure rooms stay unscented, the cabin is the clinician's, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan, including this one. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Why is citrus right for a sports-injury centre when cedar is right for most pain clinics?
Because the building and the patients are different. A sports-injury centre is white, glass-fronted and rubber-floored, with a younger, faster population in trainers, and cedar reads warm and slow against all of that. Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus - SOSA Morning Freshness - is dry, clean and quick and agrees with the room. It must be dry citrus with no sweetness behind it, because sweet orange or anything tropical turns a physio's reception into a fitness-club changing room.
My sports centre's rehab floor smells of sweat by the evening - what fragrance covers it?
None, and adding one makes a recognisable third smell. A rehab floor is a gym, and a gym is an odour job before it is anything else: fresh-air intake and air changes, wipe-down frequency on tables and mats, laundry turnover on towels and covers, and drains and bins, in that order. Only if the room smells of nothing at six in the evening after a full day for a month does a trace of the reception register reach it - from a source on the reception side, never from one placed in the gym.
Where should the SOSA Vaayu be mounted in a sports-injury centre with an open rehab floor?
High on the reception side, on the wall the waiting chairs face, away from the doorway or opening to the rehab floor and away from any AC return that serves the gym. That placement sets a gradient that falls from the desk toward the rehab floor, so what reaches the gym is only what is left after reception. A source in the gym reverses the gradient and puts fragrance where people breathe hardest. Run it on a low step with the key-lock on and the timer set to opening hours.
Should a sports-injury centre with a younger crowd run its fragrance stronger than a spine clinic?
Slightly brighter in register, not stronger in level. A faster-walking population can carry citrus where a spine clinic needs cedar, but the room still holds people on crutches, post-operative knees and parents waiting with a teenager, and it is still a pain clinic. Three reeds in a bottle or a machine on a low step, judged from the far chair at four in the afternoon. If the person on crutches can name the citrus, take a reed out.
Is a SOSA Sukoon a good choice for a sports-injury centre reception?
Not usually. The Sukoon is water-based, and a building with a gym in it already carries more humidity than most clinics; the SOSA Vaayu is waterless and adds none. For a reception under about 750 sq ft, one Morning Freshness reed at Rs 749 with three reeds in is the honest answer, and from about 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 on the reception side. The Sukoon is left off the sports-centre specification for that reason, not because it is a poor product.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks, not medical approval. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment; refill supply should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for a single room of roughly 270-320 sq ft.
